There are a few different eye allergies and allergic conjunctivitis is one of the most common by far. This is one of the most common but also one of the most treatable eye conditions, both in children and in adults. There are many different factors that can cause allergic conjunctivitis, including viruses, bacteria, irritating substances, and sexually transmitted diseases.

Treatment

There are a few different options when it comes to the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis. One is topical decongestants, which are medicines that help to reduce redness in the eyes by constricting small blood vessels in the eye. As a result the eyes look less pink and are less irritated in general. These are not recommended for long term use however and typically doctors will only suggest that the patient use them for a couple of weeks at the very most.

There are also many topical antihistamines that are available for treatment of allergic conjunctivitis which also help to reduce redness in the eyes but as well swelling and itching. There are topical steroids which are often recommended and which must be used with careful consideration because otherwise they can be potentially dangerous.

The specific treatment plan for allergic conjunctivitis that is going to work best will have to be determined by a medical professional. They will take the person’s personal characteristics into consideration as well as a number of other factors including how severe the condition is and how long they have been dealing with it for. All of these issues are going to play an important role not only in the matter of the doctor deciding on the appropriate treatment but also on how to prevent them from getting it again in the future.

There are many other eye allergies that one can develop as well and of course prevention is always the best method and there are certain things that a person can do in order to prevent themselves from getting any of these conditions as best they can. This includes washing their hands frequently especially after meals and going to the bathroom, avoiding shaking hands as much as possible, and not using anyone else’s cosmetics and other personal items.

Just as one would to prevent a cold, it is important to stay guarded against bacteria and disease because this is how the conjunctivitis, allergic or not, begins. Ask a doctor for more information on this and advice on how to best deal with conjunctivitis if it has already developed.

OK, so this one took a little longer, but in one of the message boards I frequent, someone asked if 10-in-ONE helped with allergies.

My son suffers from severe nasal allergies, but somehow I didn't pay attention to what 10-in-ONE was doing for my son's allergies until I read that question... but here are OUR results:

He's been on the vitamin for 2 months and he had to deal with allergies every single day before he started using GBG's 10-in-ONE Liquid Vitamin. Since he's been taking 10-in-ONE the allergies have been reduced both in frecuency and intensity. Now he has to deal with mild "attack" maybe once a week.

Now, let's get into: Why does 10-in-ONE help with my son's allergies?

If our diet lacks the vital or basic nutrients, we are more susceptible to allergies.

When we don't ingest sufficient levels of Vitamin C, we are more susceptible to allergens.

Many allergy sufferers find that by strengthening their immune systems with vitamins, minerals and herbs, they are less vulnerable to allergies.

Common Vitamins and over the counter products can help with Allergies such as Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Pantothenic Acid, Glucosamine, Antioxidants, and Flavonoids.

Flavonoids are powerful antioxidants and can reduce inflammation boost the immune system and strengthen blood vessels and improve circulation.

GBG's 10-in-ONE supplies all the vitamins, antioxidants, flavonoids, fruit & veggie phytonutrients and trace minerals for a healthier immune system and more!

Although many of us are happy to see signs of spring, for some it’s also the dreaded approach of pollen season. Many people suffer from allergies in the springtime, with symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, congestion, headaches, fogginess, and itchy, watery eyes.

Allergies are basically an overactive, or misplaced, immune response: the body reacts as though the pollen, or other allergen, is a terribly dangerous substance that must be flushed out at all costs. For unknown reasons, the immune system releases large amounts of antibodies in response to an essentially harmless substance. This in turn sets off a cascade of inflammation that causes all those annoying symptoms.

Western medicine offers a range of antihistamines that are often effective at decreasing the inflammatory response. However, they can also cause side effects like drowsiness, agitation, or dry mucus membranes. And, although they can provide some relief, these medications can’t address the underlying problem.

Which is why you might want to consider using Chinese medicine this year to deal with your allergies.

In Chinese medicine, allergies are considered a problem of the wei qi (pronounced "way chee"), or protective qi. This is the protective energy that circulates on the surface of the body, keeping out foreign substances and pathogens. When an allergen gets in far enough to cause a full-blown immune response, it means the outer protective layer needs to be strengthened.

Wei qi depends on the overall strength of the qi in the body; in cases of chronic allergies, there is often an underlying weakness in Spleen, Lung and/or Kidney qi. There may also be a stagnation, excess, or imbalance of qi that weakens the protective qi from the inside.

For example, someone who gets very congested, foggy-headed, and queasy with allergies may have an underlying Spleen deficiency. A person with Lung deficiency, on the other hand, might have more wheezing, or may get hives, eczema, or other skin reactions. Someone who gets red, itchy eyes and stubborn congestion may have some Liver qi stagnation that weakens the Lung qi. Of course, in real life it is common to have a combination of these patterns. Your acupuncture and herbal treatments will be modified to suit your specific situation.

The strategy in Chinese medicine is to strengthen the underlying systems that support the wei qi, so it can do its job of keeping irritants out. At the same time, acupuncture can treat the acute symptoms you may be having. People often experience immediate relief of congestion, for example, during their acupuncture treatment.

Herbal formulas can help extend this relief between sessions, without the side effects of pharmaceutical antihistamines. Herbs are combined to strengthen the immune system, address the allergic reaction itself, and relieve symptoms such as congestion, headache, or eye irritation. Powdered formulas can be individualized, or a variety of standard formulas are available in pill form if that is more convenient for you.

Dietary modifications can also make a significant difference. The following article, on self-care ideas, has a few suggestions that are good for everyone. Depending on your pattern, other individual recommendations may also be made.

The better symptoms are controlled, the easier it is to treat the underlying causes of the allergic response and make a lasting change in your allergies. Especially for those with persistent, severe allergies, the most effective strategy is to begin treatment a few weeks before allergy season starts. People are often pleased to find they can get through allergy season comfortably without taking medications, and some even experience complete remission of allergies.

Medical research supports the effectiveness of Chinese medicine for allergy symptoms: In a study published in Allergy, 52 people with allergic rhinitis were either treated with acupuncture and herbs, or placed in a control group that received sham acupuncture and fake herbal formulas. Nearly 85 percent of those receiving real treatment reported a complete or significant improvement in symptoms, versus 40% of the control group.

The cold season has arrived, a cure hasn’t, and even efforts at treating the symptoms seem dou

The cold season has arrived, a cure hasn't, and even efforts at treating the symptoms seem doubtful.

Over the counter (OTC) cold remedies have come under harsh scrutiny lately. In October, an FDA advisory panel recommended a ban on cold medicines for children under six, and in anticipation of that vote, several drug makers pulled their infant cold medicines off the shelves. Medicines for adults weren't affected, but they don't have a track record that inspires great confidence. A drug called phenypropanolamine was used as a nasal decongestant in many products until researchers linked it to hemorrhagic strokes in women. Guidelines from the American College of Chest Physicians two years ago cast doubt on the effectiveness of cough expectorants and suppressants included in many over-the-counter products.

Little wonder, then, that people have sought out alternatives like vitamin C and zinc. But for the most part, the evidence for them is pretty shaky.

Over-the-counter medicines. Colds, of course, have a variety of symptoms, so cold medicines have a variety of ingredients: almost always some kind of pain and fever reducer, usually acetaminophen; a cough suppressant, often dextromethorphan; a nasal decongestant, usually phenylephrine; and sometimes an antihistamine, often chlorpheniramine. The American chest physicians aren't alone in their skepticism about the anti-cough ingredients. Several years ago, British researchers reviewed 15 trials of cough medicines and concluded that "there's no good evidence of their effectiveness." Their damning assessment included antihistamines. The first generation antihistamine like doxylamine and chlorpheniramine have a sedating effect, so they're often ingredients in the medicines that brag about nighttime relief.

If taken at the recommended dose, the OTC medicines are reasonably safe for adults. Still that's a sizable if. Most of the complications from the infant and children's formulations have come from accidental overdoses, which can be a problem for adults, too. People don't necessarily read the fine print and may not realize, for example, that a tablespoon of Nyquil contains 500mg of acetaminophen. If they are taking lots of Tylenol - which is acetaminophen - at the same time, they can get into trouble that, in the worst case, may end in liver failure.

The possibility of anticholinergic effects from antihistamines is also something to keep an eye on. Particularly in older people, anticholinergic drugs can cause confusion, constipation and for men with prostate problems difficulty or inability to empty the bladder.

Pseudophedrine, the active ingredient in stand-alone nasal decongestant products like Sudafed, is a powerful medicine that needs to be taken with care. It works by constricting nasal blood vessels, but that effect isn't limited to the nose. Pseudophedrine can cause hypertension and rarely, cardiac arrhythmias and strokes, as well as urinary retention in men with an enlarged prostate gland. It's unclear whether phenylephrine, the nasal decongestant that has replaced pseudophedrine in many of the multi-symptom cold medicines, poses the same risk.

Vitamin C. Last year, a review of 30 trails that included a total of over 11,000 people found that taking the vitamin to prevent colds had little, if any, effect. Exceptions might be people who engage in heavy-duty exercise like marathon running or who are exposed to extreme cold. Such experiences cause temporary dips in immune function that vitamin C may offset. Whether mega doses might treat a cold once it's started will require more research.

Zinc. Taking zinc has been proposed to shorten colds and perhaps reduce their severity. Stanford researchers reported last year that three of four studies that they identified as being the most reliable didn't find a therapeutic benefit from zinc lozenges or nasal spray. The fourth, which tested a nasal gel, did. There have been several reports, though, of zinc gels causing a loss of the sense of smell.

Echinacea. A number of randomized clinical trials, included two funded by the National Institutes of Health, haven't found any benefit from taking echinacea.

Prevention that works. Only a small percentage of sneezes and coughs contain cold viruses, so you're more likely to spread - or pick up - cold viruses by way of your hands. Regular hand washing really is one of the best cold prevention tactics around. Exercising very hard may temporarily lower your immunological guard, but regular, moderate exercise boosts the immune system, and some research suggests it could prevent colds. Hopes for vitamin D are running sky-high these days, with research suggesting that it may have anti-cancer effects. It may also help fend off colds by boosting the immune system. But don't go overboard. The safe daily upper limit for vitamin D is 2,000 International Units.

And once you get a cold... cold medicines aren't the only OTC game in town. You can take many of the ingredients contained in these medicines separately, which allows for a targeted rather than a shotgun approach to symptoms. Aspirin or acetaminophen can ease the pain of a sore throat. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like naproxen (Aleve, other brands) can help with a cough.

Taking a decongestant isn't the only way to open up nasal passages. Inhaling steam from a teakettle or in a hot shower can help. Drinking plenty of water helps unplug nasal passages by keeping mucus moist and flowing. Using a nasal irrigation device called a neti pot can help sinus sufferers. And if you have a fever, fluids counteract the tendency to get dehydrated.

Finally, don't overdo the nose blowing. Too much blowing can push nasal fluids laden with bacteria and viruses into the sinus cavities. The result in some cases is a secondary infection of the sinuses that needs to be treated with antibiotics.

Antihistamines help reduce the sneezing, runny nose and itchiness of allergies. They're more useful if you use them before you're exposed to allergens. Some antihistamines can cause drowsiness and dry mouth. Others are less likely to cause these side effects, but some of these require a prescription. Ask your doctor which kind is best for you.Decongestants, such as pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine help temporarily relieve the stuffy nose of allergies. Decongestants are found in many medicines and come as pills, nose sprays and nose drops. They are best used only for a short time. Nose sprays and drops shouldn't be used for more than 3 days because you can become dependent on them. This causes you to feel even more stopped-up when you try to quit using them.

You can buy decongestants without a doctor's prescription. However, decongestants can raise your blood pressure, so it's a good idea to talk to your family doctor before using them, especially if you have high blood pressure.

Cromolyn sodium is a nasal spray that helps prevent the body's reaction to allergens. Cromolyn sodium is more helpful if you use it before you're exposed to allergens. This medicine may take 2 to 4 weeks to start working. It is available without a prescription.

Nasal steroid sprays reduce the reaction of the nasal tissues to inhaled allergens. This helps relieve the swelling in your nose so that you feel less stopped-up. They come in nasal sprays that your doctor may prescribe. You won't notice their benefits for up to 2 weeks after starting them.

Your doctor may prescribe steroid pills for a short time or give you a steroid shot if your symptoms are severe or if other medicines aren't working for you.

Eye drops. If your other medicines are not helping enough with your itchy, watery eyes, your doctor may prescribe eye drops for you.

by Stacey

Although it was news to parents, pediatricians have known for years that cough and cold medicines for kids were a waste of time and money. According to this article in the Washington Post, some doctors even learned about it in medical school.

"When I was trained as a pediatrician, it was just accepted that these products had no role. This was known in the profession," [Baltimore Health Commissioner Joshua] Sharfstein said. "It's a fair question why there wasn't a strong regulatory challenge by the profession. They could have justified one."

Sharfstein has led the campaign to end the use of over-the-counter cold medicines in children under the age of six. Last week an advisory panel to the Food and Drug Administration agreed. The meeting followed mounting reports of possible dangers of the drugs, the article says. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in January, for example, that more than 1,500 children, including three who died, had suffered adverse reactions to the medications in 2004 and 2005.

The case has also raised many questions: How could the products remain on the market for so long without proof they work? Why didn't the FDA act sooner? Why didn't the medical establishment warn parents? Are there other medications in a similar situation?

About two-thirds of drugs prescribed to children have not been tested in kids, the article says. Until recently, the FDA did not require drug makers to test drugs in children, and in fact, it was considered unethical to do so. Now doctors know that drugs work differently in children's bodies and that data from studies involving kids is crucial to safety.

The article describes the history of pediatric drug regulation, which if you're interested is worth reading. But what I want to focus on is, how come we didn't know about all this business with the cold meds?

Research has been published on the ineffectiveness of cold medicines going back as far as 1993, the article says. That year, the Journal of the American Medical Association published an analysis that concluded there was no good evidence that the medications worked. Then in 2004, The Cochrane Collaboration, an independent international project that regularly evaluates medical therapies, reached a similar conclusion.

Although many pediatricians were aware of the mounting doubts and began urging their patients not to use the products, some doctors continued to counsel their patients that they could, and the products remained a mainstay.

In addition, the American Academy of Pediatrics has had a policy since 1997 stating that cough products are ineffective, and the American College of Chest Physicians produced a similar statement in 2006. The article says that other groups, such as the American College of Family Physicians, never issued any formal guidance to doctors, and no major medical groups ever officially questioned the class of products or campaigned against their use.

Peter Lurie, from the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen's Health Research Group says, "there was a vacuum in leadership on this issue by the professional societies." Others defend the medical groups, the article says, saying policy statements from doctors' groups can do only so much, especially against the aggressive marketing by large pharmaceutical companies, which spend more than $50 million a year to sell the products. AAP's Wayne R. Snodgrass, who chairs the group's committee on drugs says the companies and the FDA share the blame.

So while everyone's busy pointing their fingers, no one seems to be thinking about the parents who for all these years have been trudging out to the drug store in the middle of the night seeking relief for their coughing, sneezing, stuffy-headed children and finding a plethora of grape and cherry-flavored potions that promised to help and in the end, could only hurt. We're the last stop for safety for our children and we needed to know the facts. Shame on all of you.

A number of cough and cold medicines for children were withdrawn from the market on Thursd

by Stacey

A number of cough and cold medicines for children were withdrawn from the market on Thursday, presumably in anticipation of an FDA advisory committee meeting scheduled next week to assess the drugs' safety. According to this NY Times article, "Thursday's withdrawal includes medicines aimed at children under age 2, after the Food and Drug Administration and other health groups reported deaths linked to the remedies in recent years, primarily from unintentional overdoses."

The Consumer Healthcare Products Association announced Thursday that manufacturers were voluntarily ending sales of over-the-counter oral cough and cold products aimed at infants. The list includes infant drops sold under the leading brand names Dimetapp, Pediacare, Robitussin, Triaminic, Little Colds, and versions of Tylenol that contain cough and cold ingredients.

CVS Caremark Corp. added that it would also end sales of CVS-brand equivalents.

"Health groups say that while low doses of cold medicine don't usually endanger an individual child, the bigger risk is unintentional overdose," the article says. "For example, the same decongestants, cough suppressants and antihistamines are in multiple products, so using more than one to address different symptoms -- or having multiple caregivers administer doses -- can quickly add up. Also, children's medicines are supposed to be measured with the dropper or measuring cap that comes with each product, not an inaccurate kitchen teaspoon."

And, since ''the medicine isn't doing what the family wants, instead of giving as directed every six hours they give every four hours or every two hours,'' says Dr. Basil Zitelli of the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, who sees such children in the emergency room. ''What they in effect are doing is poisoning their child.''

What to do instead:
--Plenty of fluids and rest.

--Suction bulbs to gently clear infants' clogged noses. Saline nose drops loosen thick secretions so noses drain more easily.

--A cool-mist humidifier in the child's bedroom.

--Acetaminophen or ibuprofen, as recommended by your doctor, to alleviate pain or discomfort -- but check that they don't contain extra ingredients.

--Some chest creams can ease stuffiness with menthol or other fragrances, but check labels for age restrictions.

by Stacey

Last week, officials at the Food and Drug Administration urged parents to avoid giving common cold and cough medicines to young children. According to this AP story, the recommendation is "preliminary" as the agency awaits counsel by a panel of experts later this month.

The recommendation applies to decongestant use in children under 2, and antihistamines in those younger than 6, according to agency documents. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently released a report that found more than 1,500 toddlers and babies wound up in emergency rooms over a two-year period because of the drugs.

Surprisingly, the Consumer Healthcare Products Association, which represents makers of over-the-counter medicines, backs the recommendation that the cold and cough treatments not be used in children younger than 2, the AP story says. Separately, for antihistamines, the group recommends adding a warning that the drugs not be used to sedate young children.

An FDA review of side-effect records filed with the agency between 1969 and September 2006, found 54 reports of deaths in children associated with decongestant medicines made with pseudoephedrine, phenylephrine or ephedrine. It also found 69 reports of deaths associated with antihistamine medicines containing diphenhydramine, brompheniramine or chlorpheniramine.

Most of the deaths were children younger than 2.

I heard about that CDC study on National Public Radio last spring and have already chucked all the cold meds for kids in our house. Last time Sage was coughing in his bed at night I made him some old-fashioned hot water with lemon and honey. He seemed to like it. I felt like a good mommy. Must be a placebo effect in there somewhere.

American Drug Mafia?!

American Drug Mafia?!

Well, yes. This mafia is run by the multi billion dollar drug industry in America!

Every time a person visits a doctor in America with a psychological problem - stress, depression or related condition, the doctor does not take enough time to understand the root cause. Root cause analysis takes time and time costs money. What the person actually needs might be elimination of the cause of the psychological disturbance. For instance, the depression might be due to loss of a pet, loss of a job, or say stress at work, etc. There are also persons who are MISLEAD by the ads from these drug companies and INSIST on their doctors to prescribe certain drugs!!

What the person really needs in the above case is Yoga, exercises, a trip into the woods, a vacation, etc. Instead the doctors reduce the entire problem to a simplistic chemical imbalance in the body!! They tell the person that he/she is depressed due to a lack of chemical called serotonin in the body and hence recommends an anti depressant which basically adds serotonin into your body and booooooom.. your good moods are back like a magic wand!!!

Well, being somebody who knows how complicated human body is and the way a true medicinal system like ayurveda works, I can only laugh at the knowledge of those doctors and pity those patients who are being converted into drug addicts. one in every six americans is on anti depressants!!! For a population of 300 million in USA, 150 million prescriptions have been given for anti depressants.

Pharmaceutical drug industry is worth 250$ billion worldwide of which 1/3 is from USA itself!! In other words every third human in the world who takes these drugs is from USA while only one out of every 20 humans in this world is from USA!! On the contrary, one out of every 6 humans in the world is from India, but only one out of every 250 humans who takes these drugs is from India! (India accounts for only 1% of global pharmaceutical drug sales)

Let me tell you, these drug companies are minting money by manufacturing drugs which only hide the effect and do nothing about the cause. Our body is not just a chemical factory where you see a problem and attribute it to an increase or decrease in some chemical and then remove/add it accordingly and lo, the problem is gone. Definitely life forms are not that simple. We are much more than chemical combinations.

It is true that giving serotonin might remove depression in some people for some time. But then is that the right way to treat depression? Why did the body reduce its serotonin level? Did it go mad? A healthy body does everything in response to internal and external conditions. In this case, the body sees that there is a cause to be depressed and probably reduced serotonin level is used to indicate the same to the emotional part of the brain. So what should be the solution? To analyze the cause which caused the reduction would be the right answer. Not artificially increasing serotonin and hiding the cause from the brain.

Artificial intake of serotonin would be like drinking coffee to use caffeine in it to avoid sleep. Adenosine tells the brain that we are sleepy. Caffeine blocks this adenosine and prevents sleep. But does this mean that the body doesnt need sleep???

I have always disliked this stupid approach of western medicinal systems. It simply hides the effects than treating the cause. Which is why I consider ancient Indian systems like Ayurveda and Yoga as the true medicinal systems. They NEVER hide the effects. You will never find a pain killer in Ayurveda. Instead they strengthen your body to overcome the odds and illness. It may take time, but it definitely helps and strengthens your body and mind. Western medicines make you lifetime dependent on drugs. These drug companies never attempt to treat the cause. Why would they want to remove all your illness and bring down the sales of their drugs??

Note that there have been researches where doctors have given mere simpe water to patients saying that its medicine, and the patients have got cured. What worked in this case was the trust! The patients trusted what doctors gave, and their body responded accordingly!

In a recent study by FDA, Anti Depressants were found to actually increase depression, homicidal thoughts, withdrawal symptoms in many people who take it. Only 1 out of 10 was found to be really responsive in a positive manner to anti depressants. It has been found that many recent maniac killers and homicides in US were on anti depressants for a long time. It is so foolish to think that you artificially add a chemical to your body, and it goes on well on its purpose of removing depression without having any kind of side effects on other functions of the body. Our body is not a set of independent chemical reactions where you alter one and nothing else gets affected. One doesn't need a medical post graduation to understand this, common sense will do.

Its amazing to see the thriving sales of anti depressants in America. An entire country is being converted into drug dependents! Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft, Luvox, Celexa, Wellbutrin, Effexor, Serzone, Remeron... so many of them! They are even prescribed to children!! A child gets depressed due to getting a low grade in school, or for losing a competition or for any other reason, and lo, the doctor prescribes an anti depressant!! Note that of the all mentioned anti depressants, ONLY prozac has been approved by FDA for use in children!

If you have a fracture, well, there are pain killers. Ibuprofen, Paracetamol, Diclofenac and what not... They dont treat your bone fracture or muscle cramp or back pain. They just prevent those pain signals from reaching your brain!

Do you think nature is so foolish to have those pain signals generated when there is a bone fracture for instance? These signals are generated with a purpose. They tell the brain cells what is wrong and where. Brain in turn being the controller of the body activates required organs and cells which now participate in the repair process. It also ensures that your concentration gets to the affected part and you take appropriate action like covering the part from further damage, etc. In case of a fracture or cramp for instance it ensures that you dont move the affected part till the damage control is done. This prevents more damage to that part.

Pain killers simply hijack the entire natural process. If you go to an ayurvedic doctor, he will never give you a pain killer. Instead he will prescribe medication that assists your body in healing the fracture/cramp even faster. That is what I call real medical science.

Sportsmen for instance when injured, go on pain killers and continue to play!! Nothing is more dangerous than that. You already have an injured part which is more vulnerable even to minor blows and you continue to play as if nothing has happened!! Which is why many of them end up with life long problems and n number of surgeries.

Greedy drug companies and stupid doctors offer people 2 minute solutions that are foolish and dangerous and in no way can be called as real treatment, as an alternative for a natural process which is longer but definitely more concrete, reliable and a real treatment of the problem.

Remember that the best doctor for your body is the body itself. It exactly knows what to do and how to do. To fasten the process all it needs is mere assistance and that is what a true medicinal system should provide. Giving false signals to the body is like cheating the doctor in your body, and you end up paying adequately for it.

Another instance is that of Anti Histamines. Histamines are the neuro transmitters in our body which carry information about sites of infection to the brain. Some people are allergic to some substances and even this causes an increase in the amount of histamines in your body. And your doctor ends up giving you a dose of anti histamines in the form of tablets or an IV. What do anti histamines do? Well, they simply bring down the level of histamine in your body and you end up thinking that allergy is gone!!!

Can there be any more foolish treatment than this. Anti Histamines should be given only if you reach a level where you could probably get a stroke, which is a worst case scenario. If your body is allergic to some substance and produces histamines, then there should be a reason to it. The actual treatment would be to identify that substance and avoid contact with it or intake (if it is a food item) in the future. Not asking your body to shut up by taking anti-histamines.

My sincere advice to all those americans who go to general physicians to find a solution to their mental conditions is, please go to a good psychiatrist instead. If for instance you are feeling lazy or less energetic, the psychiatrist will give you tips on how to be more active. where as the general physician will reduce it to a lack of some chemical in your body and convert you into a drug addict forever!

Thank God once again. Another reason to feel proud to be in India. Till today I haven't heard about a single person taking anti depressants in India. In India, one can count on his/her fingers the number of times one gets depressed in his/her lifetime, and if at all depressed, we have family and friends to rely on, yoga and meditation, there is lot of fun and hope around, spiritual capital of the world....

I love India!

In my neck of the woods, Spring has sprung and everything is beginning to bloom. Every morning I wake up with my nose running. For a person with chronic health problems that really sucks!

I go to bed with my nose congested. Makes life hard when you have sleep apnea and you depend on a cpap machine for sound sleep. Sleep, or the lack of it, is one of my triggers in by rapid cycling of my atypical bipolar disorder.

In addtion, if I don't sleep there's not only bipolar, but the fybromyalgia flares up.

I can't seem to find any over the counter antihistamines that won't collide with my other meds.
