Actually, I just came from Disneyland. I decided to take advantage of my student rate before I grad

Actually, I just came from Disneyland. I decided to take advantage of my student rate before I graduate and the fact that the largest library conference in the nation would be on the West Coast (which it won't be for at least three more years). This year, the American Library Association held its 2008 annual conference in Anaheim, California.

Highlights of the conference for me included:

The piles and piles of free books!

One-on-one resume review service

Meeting a local library patron who absolutely loves libraries and getting free books (see picture above)

Listening to Roy Tennant moderate a panel on OPACS with expert librarians that I look up to: Karen Schneider, Steven Abrams, Karen Coyle and Joe Janes

Proximity to Disneyland!

Cory Doctorow: One of the creators of Boing Boing, Cory is also a smashing science fiction writer, a superb speaker and a brilliant guy! Who knew?

Not so great parts of the conference were:

Lack of benches anywhere in the convention center: Was the Anaheim Convention Center even ADA compliant?

Distance of over a mile to any real food access

The Opening Session: Was everyone reading from a teleprompter? Why did even the keynote speaker sound like Ben Stein?

General disorganization: Many of my planned sessions were canceled without notice, moved, or drastically different from their program write-ups, and the experience of asking others for guidance only to be told that they too were confused was discouragingly common

The generally pessimistic aura overhanging the conference: Discussions about a predicted terrible future economic depression, the coming copyright dark ages and increasing digital divide and being confronted immediately at general session with handouts about donating $ to ALA upon our deaths was less than cheery . . .

Stay tuned for longer ALA blog entries. I plan to write one covering the excellent catalog session more in-depth, and another with a detailed comparison between my SLA and ALA conference experiences.

I guess this will be like a public service announcement. The federal government mandated that annual free credit reports be available to everyone to prevent identity theft. However, if you google "free credit report", a bunch of commercial sites will pop up. Some will charge, some will steal your info, etc. The correct link is: http://www.annualcreditreport.com/

I tried it myself and it's pretty good. The only downside is that you can only do it once a year, which is still better than not knowing your credit at all. So, hope this helps. Meanwhile, I have to get that free credit report dot com song out of my head....

It’s the 30th of June! I didn’t think much of it until I read this blog post: http://mysistersja

It’s the 30th of June! I didn’t think much of it until I read this blog post: http://mysistersjar.wordpress.com/2008/06/30/june-thirtieth/

I realized after reading this post that it is indeed the half year mark for the year. Usually, I sit down in a quiet corner on New Year’s Eve, in the midst of all the chaos and wonder what the year has been like, what I have achieved and how many resolutions I have broken. I make promises to myself that the coming year will be different.

I decided to find that quiet corner right now, today. I want to think about how the year has been so far and I want to decide how I want it to be from now on. So I can just smile and spend the last few hours on New Year’s eve celebrating a year that I had.

So far, the year has been very kind to me. I brought it in with my close friends, my bond with my sister has gotten stronger, my cool brother moved back to India, I lost a few more kilos, I gifted my parents a small trip, I got a job that makes me happy, I got my act together and finished my novel and I have nurtured and been nurtured by some very wonderful friends.

It seems like it didn’t bring any problems with it. Not true, it did bring in a fair share of problems. But despite those I want to be happy about it. I have decided to overlook the problems because I’ve been surrounded by love and loads of it.

Love has come to me in abundance, but have I given back the same amount? I don’t think so. I wish I could be a better sister to Nani, a better daughter, a better granddaughter and I want to be a better friend. So yes the coming bit of the year will be all about giving back to my universe what I got from it- Love, kindness, special moments and the reason to smile.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League’s Board of Governors has concluded its 2008 Annual Meeting, held this week at Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Chaired by AHL President and CEO David Andrews, the four days of meetings, which concluded on Thursday, were attended by representatives from all 29 American Hockey League clubs and most National Hockey League teams, as well as NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly and USA Hockey president Ron DeGregorio.

The Annual Meeting resulted in the following announcements:The Board approved an increase in AHL playing rosters during the regular season to 18 skaters and two goaltenders (up from 17 and two).At the request of NHL general managers, the AHL has implemented one-minute minor penalties during overtime in the regular season. In order to bring the AHL rule book closer in line to the NHL’s, the Board approved the following rules changes: Rule 60.3 (“High-Sticking”) now calls for a double-minor penalty (rather than a major) in the event of a high-sticking infraction that causes injury, whether accidental or careless, in the opinion of the referee.Rule 63.2 (“Delaying the Game”) now calls for an automatic minor penalty when any player or goalkeeper, while in his defending zone, shoots the puck directly out of the playing surface, except where there is no glass.A change to Rule 81.1 (“Icing”) states that “Any contact between opposing players while pursuing the puck on an icing must be for the sole purpose of playing the puck and not for eliminating the opponent from playing the puck. Unnecessary or dangerous contact could result in penalties being assessed to the offending player.”A change to Rule 85.5 (“Face-Off Location”) provides that if a puck is shot off the goal frame, goal post or crossbar, the subsequent face-off will remain in the end zone where the puck went out of play. The Board approved the transfer of ownership of the Peoria Rivermen franchise from Rivermen II, Ltd., to the St. Louis Blues hockey club. The Board approved the transfer of ownership of the inactive Edmonton AHL franchise to Rexall Sports Corp., following last week’s NHL approval of the sale of the Edmonton Oilers to the same group. In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 84 percent of today’s NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the seventh year in a row, more than 6 million fans attended AHL games across North America in 2007-08.

Vedic Astrology Chart Analysis and Consultancy is provided exclusively through Reports drafted by the Consultant in MS Word and e-mailed to clients across the world. Details of the various Analyses available are given below. Choose the one which suits your needs best. Samples of some Consultancy undertaken for clients in different climes and cultures are put up elsewhere on this site. Look around!

Vedic/ Hindu Astrology is a magnificent spiritual art. It should not be treated akin to a physical science. It is not Biology or Chemistry; it is Astrology or Jyotish with its own sets of rules, principles and requirements of active intuition. In the hectic, confusing and neurotic times of today, the ancient wisdom of the Seers can furnish a reliable roadmap with which to navigate life with a dynamic attitude, awareness and a feeling of genuine participation. It is a very far cry from superstition and fortune telling.

Crucial decisions such as whether to push ahead in a very charged up Karmic time or to wait a little before giving it the best one has within; or purposive queries that one poses to herself: 'Where am I going? OR Where am I going with this?'; evaluating a past relationship that changes the inner and external landscape; death and rebirth experiences at the psychological level, whether precipitated by tangible reality or the innermost emotive adventures; an overall view of one's life, fostering a magical perspective that centres; the root cause of otherwise inexplicable personal suffering; evaluating, anticipating and harmonising periods of astounding material, emotional and spiritual success; choosing a life partner knowing if she/ he is The One...all these and much, much more are things that appear well beyond any other known structured art or discipline known to humankind.

Hindu/ Vedic Astrology is an astonishing perspective on the individual and collective human condition. More than anything else, it is a field of recieving perpetual and yet surprised delight.

To be able to understand other's and one's own spiritual, mental and material quotients, propensities and realistic potentials can instill authentic confidence and recognition. Ego, mind, learning, wealth, relatives, love, partners, travel, life, death, birth and focussed planning all acquire a meaning which is otherwise always elusive in the modern rush.

This art is truly a blessing from the ancient wisdom of India.

The Vedic Astrology Consultant/ Author asserts and retains the Intellectual Property Rights in the Consultancy Analyses, Articles, Essays, Research and other compositions on this Website.

Disclaimer:For those who have glimpsed the magic of Jyotish, magnificent treasures await in the vast ocean of this knowledge. Hindu Astrology Analyses offered by the Consultant are not empirical pronouncements of the type made in the realm of the physical sciences. The Analyses are not in the true or false format but delve into the horoscope to derive insights about the life of the native in a spiritual reference frame. These insights should be used by clients at their sole discretion and responsibility.

The DETAILED CHART ANALYSIS is an exhaustive interpretation of the Rashi Chakra and the Varga Chakras or the Divisional Charts. It includes the analysis of the specific queries of the client in addition to the overall interpretation of the major areas of life. Career, wealth, income, property, parents, relatives, siblings, marriage, relationships, life events, progeny, health, spirituality, deities, curses from previous incarnations that bring challenges, travel and related matters are studied. Dasha systems like the Vimshottari Dasha, Narayan Dasha and the Conditional Dashas of Parashara are applied for timing based on applicability and need. Techniques such as Argala and Rashi Drishti are employed to better glean chart tendencies. Full use is made of the various Arudha Pada to judge the externalities of life in addition to the metaphysical roots relating to the various life areas as seen from the charts. An alternative equivalent of the Analysis can also be had through a telephonic conversation extending from One hour to One and a half hours depending on need. Follow up questions in the nature of clarifications for both written and telephonic forms are entertained once. For information pertaining to fee structures and to request an Analysis, write to anuraagsharma27@hotmail.com and anuraag9@gmail.com.

The DETAILED CHARTS COMPATIBILITY ANALYSIS is an exhaustive interpretation of two sets of Rashi Chakras and the Varga Chakras or the Divisional Charts. Married couples or romantic partners can avail of this Analysis with profit. It is an elaborate examination of the corresponding features of the two charts. The crucial parameters of Upapada Lagna matching are applied to judge the inherent and Karmic suitability of the two individuals as marital partners. Physical proximity, Manglik Dosha, Dosha Samya or the mutual cancellation of affliction are some of the features studied. The longevity of the marriage and the status of the marital partner are examined. Over and covert opposition to the alliance, if any, are also judged. Advanced and esoteric techniques as described above are used for charts delineation. Telephonic equivalent of the Analysis is also available in the alternative, as stated above for the Detailed Chart Analysis. For information pertaining to fee structures and to request an Analysis, write to anuraagsharma27@hotmail.com and anuraag9@gmail.com.

The ANNUAL CHART ANALYSIS or the TITHI PRAVESHA CHAKRA is an extensive and in-depth look at the Hindu or Vedic year. It employs traditional Jyotish knowledge to glean the astrological factors operating for the native in a given year. Concepts like the ruler of the year, the lord of the Hindu or the Vedic day on which the year starts and the application of the Tithi Ashtottari Dasha are used to describe the manner in which events will unfold through a given year. Varga Chakras or the Divisional Charts are used to study specific areas of life for the given year. Other standard techniques such as evaluation of the Arudha Pada, the use of Rashi Drishti to study deterministic trends and Argala to time the intervention of allied factors on a given chart function are employed. For alternative telephonic equivalents, see briefs on other Reports above. For information pertaining to fee structures and to request an Analysis, write to anuraagsharma27@hotmail.com and anuraag9@gmail.com.

The HORARY CHART ANALYSIS or PRASHNA CHAKRA ANALYSIS is an interpretation of the query chart (s) cast either for the moment when your Hindu Astrology Consultant receives the query through e-mail or when upon successful commissioning of the Analysis, the Jyotishi sits down to cast and analyse the various charts. Principles from the Jyotish classic the Prashna Marga and other standard interpretation techniques are used to unravel the propensities regarding the subject of the query posed to the astrologer. This Analysis is a study of the real features of life of the Querent or the query, the status or external features relating to the same and the protection afforded to the subject-matter. For alternative telephonic equivalents see the briefs on the other Reports above. For information pertaining to fee structures and to request an Analysis, write to anuraagsharma27@hotmail.com and anuraag9@gmail.com.

The CUSTOMISED COMPOSITE CHART ANALYSIS as the name suggests is an amalgam and combination of more than one of the Reports detailed above. Clients frequently seek a combination of the various Reports available. For example, the Detailed Chart Analysis is sought to be combined with either the Tithi Pravesha Chakra Analysis or the Prashna Chakra Analysis or both to attempt to glean insights into the coming Vedic/ Hindu year and/ or a specific and immediate query that can be best evaluated through a Horary Chart Analysis. Likewise, with the Remedial Measures Consultancy where the Jatak wishes to receive an understanding of the remedial measures such as Mantra, worship of specific deities, gemstone prescriptions based on his or her charts. Visitors can see below for samples of this Report as too the other variants. For alternative telephonic equivalents see the briefs on the other Reports above. For information pertaining to fee structures and to request an Analysis, write to anuraagsharma27@hotmail.com and anuraag9@gmail.com.

The nursery provides an environment for parents to learn how to care for at-risk babies who are in need of additional medical attention before leaving the hospital. The Ace Bailey Children's Foundation focuses on the well-being of children undergoing medical treatment with the establishment and improvement of programs, environments and professional services that enhance the hospital stay for children and their families.

The Monarchs Care Foundation annually hosts the tournament to celebrate the life of Garnet "Ace" Bailey and to raise funds for a worthy cause in his name. Bailey, known for his love of kids and his fun-loving attitude, served as the Kings’ director of pro scouting until his death as part of the tragic events on September 11, 2001.

The foursome from Northeast Freightways, Inc. (Philip Palker, Sean Foye, Paul Lessard and Steve Blair) and former Monarchs defenseman Doug Nolan were declared winners of the event as they shot a 58 in the best-ball 18-hole tournament.

The second place team from Poultry Products (Julien Stogniew, Blake Love, Dick Kennedy and Jon Ers) with celebrity golfer Bruce Boudreau, head coach of the Washington Capitals and NHL coach of the year, tied the team from Zurich (Jim Walsh, Dick Plunkett, Bob Mariano and Shannon Bennett), who were joined by former Boston Bruin and NHL Hall of Famer Brad Park, as both teams shot a 60 on the day.

The Ace Bailey Golf Classic annually brings together an outstanding collection of men and women who have distinguished themselves in the sport of hockey. League president and CEO Dave Andrews represented the American Hockey League at this year's event.

"Ace was looking out for all of us as the clouds opened up and we had a beautiful day to celebrate his life on the golf course," said Monarchs senior vice president Cheryl Abbott. "Ace was a dear member of our organization and we are proud to bring everyone together to raise money for children in our community in his name."
