Greta has some fun exposing AC360's business.

To paraphrase MS/NBC’s Keith Olbermann, yes many in the news industry behind the scenes - even my friends at CNN - laugh about the fact that CNN’s 10pm show has been a “marketing experiment.” It has been rumored that in one year they spent about 27 million dollars in advertising of Anderson Cooper in their experiment. No network has ever spent that kind of money just to market one person. By the way, the President of CNN told me that Anderson Cooper has a staff of nearly 60. We beat them with our staff…of about 12.

Quite the diss, yes? I was amused, but then again I am biased. I'm not a fan of CNN at all -- though all the cable news networks, except Bloomberg, are pretty useless, there's something especially risible about CNN. Perhaps it's the fake "populism" of Lou Dobbs, the Ron Burgundy stylings of the daytime anchors, the insipid Ali Velshi and "Issue One" -- or more likely, it's a combination of all of the above. AC360 is the capstone of this lineup, which seems purposely dumbed down for American users especially; their international product is bearable when compared to the GOLLLLLLEE GAS PRICES R HIGH segments they play every fifteen goddamn minutes, in between their ads for Carnival Cruises and Big Pharma....

CNN analyst Anderson Cooper known to many as "The Silver Fox" appears on The Advocate's latest Issue.

Writer Sean Kennedy covers the issue of men and graying, with emphasis on gay men and graying of course, in his article titled "The Age Of The Silver Fox".

Even with all things alluding to Cooper, who's sexually has been the topic of great debate, the article does not include any direct dialogue with Anderson Cooper himself.

I'm posting this new cover of Anderson Cooper for two reasons:

1) it's always good to show some love to our friends in the gay press

2) (more important to me right now) I love my girl Lark, I know she's had a rough week, I know she finds this fucker "dreamy," ergo it might brighten her day.**

**And if any of our readers have a problem with that, I'll find your pictures and FOX NEWS Your Asses so fast you won't know what hit you.

[I probably should add that the article is about men with grey hair, it's not a tribue issue to AC or anything.]

After days of staying away from this link, I finally have the right frame of mind to update. I mean

After days of staying away from this link, I finally have the right frame of mind to update. I mean given that updating means actually writing something although it doesn't always mean anything - to other people at least.

So for a start, I tried to write about "my-a-year-ago" experience in Cebu. It's not a big deal. The reason why I thought of writing about it is just because I thought a year ago it means something - leaving your comfort zone, freedom, and all that shit. And the exact reason why I decided not to post that entry. It would be a blab about the good and the bad and the things that were. And funny how they become a haze in front of a huge, beautiful monster. Something you stare at for so long - quite unsure whether the haze is a good thing or not - until the monster eats you up.

And while I'm in this analogy, another of that kind dubbed as the cable is finally out of my life for good. My father finally figured out that the cable actually contributes to global warming. I was thankful I could finally get rid of CNN and Anderson Cooper only to find out it can actually be programmed in non cable televisions. The only enthusiasm I have left is juiced from hoping that one day we'll hear about the Philippines without the words flood, terrorism, and poverty.

"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently."

This may be a little late and lame for some but this is on PBB teen edition. I'm not a teen anymore but I'm sure I am still part of the Boses ng Kabataan commercial steroid. And while I am (and some people who are molested with the thought of being represented by young people who, sad to say, are victims of this Pedophile Big Brother) try other marketing devices. It may be a good commercial stunt but it's not good for the brain cells.

More and more money is slipping away. Prices for houses keep falling, gas prices are rising…it looks like a big depression. And that’s how it feels for most. So, with your vote, will you be able to change anything?

And what are the candidates going to do about it? The economy now dominates the campaign trails.

Candy Crawley gave us a short summary.

‘Families have to decide on which food they are going to buy, because the amount they used to spend on groceries is now going into the gas tank.’ That’s what Obama stated.

Even a child…
Nicholas Sheley, suspected of killing eight people, has been caught by police yesterday night.
Shelley allegedly killed these people within one week in an area of 300 miles. The first hearing was supposed to be today.

This on is unbelievable!
A woman has been waiting for a bed in a psychiatric ER when she collapsed. It took an hour before anyone helped. Enough time for her to die.
A security video revealed that several people walked by without caring or calling for help. Including two security guards.
And this is not the first time the ER has to deal with troubles. In 2007 an official complaint has been filed concerning the horrific conditions.
The hospital says it has changed since the complaint but obviously they haven’t done enough.
Now every patient has to be checked every 15 minutes.
Too late for the woman.

Anderson Cooper

Thank You.

I just wanted to take a moment and thank all of you who watch our broadcast for helping us win against our competition again this quarter. It’s the second quarter in a row we’ve won in the most important demographic, and it is all because of you. We’ve focused a lot on politics these past six months, and our viewers have responded. It’s great to win, but it’s even better to win reporting on things that are important. So, thank you, and I promise we will continue to work hard to bring you in depth coverage of the day's most important stories.

I know it’s popular to attack one’s competition in cable news. Some people seem to spend as much time trashing their rivals as they do reporting the news. I understand why they do it, I get it, but I don’t want to take part in it, and I respect the fact that my competition on FOX, Greta Van Susteren has chosen not to do that as well. She has her program, I have mine. They are very different, but I respect her hard work and intelligence. I think the competition between us makes both our broadcasts better.

Dr. Lisa Boesky
Clinical Psychologist
Author, When to Worry: How to Tell if Your Teen Needs Help–and What to Do About It

The disappearance of 12-year-old Brooke Bennett initially focused on who she met online, but now the investigation also includes her uncle (a registered sex offender) as a “person of interest.” One year ago, 19-year-old Donna Jou disappeared after going to a party with someone from Craigslist.

Thousands of children and teens are sexually assaulted by relatives each year. Every parent warns their kids about strangers—but unfortunately “Stranger Danger” does NOT seem to be effective for the dangers of the “Internet” or relatives…

Kids often don’t realize they should view Internet friends as “strangers.” The Internet creates a false sense of intimacy, so if your daughter has been talking to someone online, she probably feels like she knows him. He’s not going to be one of those people who would hurt her, right? The only problem is that if she is wrong, it can lead to tragic consequences.

Children would never consider their uncle, step-father, or cousin to be a “stranger.” Yet most male sex offenders have siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews, many of whom are married with children. If kids hear mommy or daddy saying these people are okay, why would they have any concerns? Family = Safety right? Not always…The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior (especially when it comes to male sex offenders).

Some girls are more vulnerable to being preyed upon by Internet “friends.” If they are desperate to connect, feel loved or cared about, or even hungry for flattery and attention —they are at high risk. Once they meet someone who will fill those needs, their judgment often goes out the window. These are normal needs and most girls get them met at home or through friends. If they aren’t—the girls are likely to be vulnerable to get their needs met in a dangerous (and sometimes tragically fatal) way.

Parents need to talk to their daughters about the false sense of intimacy that develops online and how fake it can be, as well as the dangers that can happen. They need to find out WHY she’s meeting strangers on MySpace—what void is she trying to fill? Children and teens need to know about people who have disappeared as a result of online meetings. You may want to use real-life examples (See www.donnajou.com, a 19-year-old who disappeared after meeting a guy she connected with on Craigslist.)

Don’t tell her about these cases in a lecturing tone, or a holier-than-thou way. You want to come from an “I’m concerned about this because…” angle. Parents should stay away from phrases like “you should” or “you shouldn’t.” Try “I’m concerned” or “I’m worried” instead. The last thing you want her to do is shut you out.

If your daughter does meet someone online and you later find out about it, ask her what made her think this was okay before you dole out consequences. This helps you get out of your own head and into your teen’s logic. They have a completely different mindset about meeting people online than we do. There’s no way to understand them unless you get a sense of where they’re at–not where they “should” be at.

Keep in mind; it’s part of the teenage years to feel invulnerable and “unique.” They truly believe “this will not happen to me.” Parents need to show there are other teens just like them out there and it did happen to them.

Anderson Cooper

When a family of five mountain gorillas was found slaughtered last July in the forests of the Democratic Republic of Congo, it made headlines. Pictures, taken by Brent Stirton, of the majestic animals being carried out of the forest by rangers and villagers were seen around the world.

The gorillas had been shot to death. It was clear it was not the work of poachers, but exactly why they were killed was unclear.

We had visited the mountain gorillas earlier that year when we broadcast for a week from Congo, but after we left, the fighting in the region intensified. Rebels took over the national park where the gorillas live, and they kicked the rangers who protect the gorillas out of the park.

I went back to Congo in December for 60 Minutes, but couldn’t get to see the gorillas. They were cut off, and the rangers hadn’t been able to visit them for some six months.

By then it was clear that the illegal production of charcoal in the national park the gorillas live in had something to do with their murder. To make charcoal, people cut down hardwood trees in the park. It is a multi-million dollar a year business, and its run by a charcoal mafia. What wasn’t clear was who was heading that mafia.

This month, National Geographic has a cover story about the murder of the mountain gorillas. Photographer Brent Stirton and writer Mark Jenkins went to Congo to find out who was behind the killings. What they discovered is a disturbing tale of murder and corruption.

The man who was in charge of the park, the chief warden, has now been arrested in connection with the killing of the gorillas. It’s alleged he is a major player in the illegal charcoal trade, and had the gorillas killed as a warning to other park rangers to halt their efforts to curtail charcoal production.

Brent and Mark took a lot of risks to tell this story, and tonight we will talk to them about what they found.

Program note: See Anderson’s Planet in Peril report tonight on AC360°

Here's a short video of his report for 60 minutes.

They even posted an excerpt of Naomi Schwartz, who works for National Gepgraphic Television. I think Andy felt the same when he had the chance to actually meet the gorillas there.

I didn’t think it would be this easy. I mean, in the grand scheme of things, it wasn’t, you know, easy easy. Getting here required repeated negotiations with high-level contacts in rebel General Laurent Nkunda’s army, and then with the general himself.

It required driving an hour and a half outside the city to a UN base in the foothills of the Mikeno volcano, followed by an hour’s steep hike to the rebel base farther up the volcano. And it required another hour-plus hike just after dawn to get to the edge of the national park. All while being hurried along by rebel soldiers with big guns and spears who were terrified we’d miss our chance.

But then the overgrown fields ended abruptly in a shock of thick forest, and here we are. And there they are. An entire family of mountain gorillas. Just hanging out, in the trees, and in the brush beneath them.

They look exactly like gorillas.

It feels completely unreal.

Their black fur contrasts starkly with the bright green foliage, and yet recedes into the dark shadows of the dense forest. Some ignore us, while others gaze at us with intelligent-seeming curiosity. I want to reach my hand out to one of them. Or to grab one of the small, cuddly gorilla children, and enfold it in a giant gorilla-hug. Completely against the rules, of course. Human visitors are strictly required to stay a minimum of seven meters away from any wild gorillas, for the gorilla’s safety as much as anything else.

But it’s not clear the gorillas know the rules. Especially that giant one over there. The one walking along that felled log right there. The one coming over here.

“Look submissive!” someone hisses in my direction. Everyone has crouched down and is studying their feet and the many insects around them.

Gorillas are incredibly gentle, we’ve been told by several experts before coming here. But they are also plain old enormous; mature males typically weigh up to 500 pounds. They are impressive beasts, and seem easily capable of inflicting serious damage should the need arise.

Ideally, you’d go with expert guides.

But about six months ago, General Nkunda’s forces, took control of this strategic territory along the border with Rwanda. Most of the human population fled: the empty villages and un-cultivated fields a haunting testimony to the toll of the war. Most of the park rangers also left, or were forced to leave.

The mountain gorillas, though, are still here. And so are a few former park rangers who have split from Congolese park services.

They, along with a “guard” of rebel soldiers, led us to the gorillas this morning. They still wear their old uniforms and talk of their long histories with the park service. But they fail to tell us of the 7-meter rule, and seem fairly flexible on the other rules, including the number of people allowed to get close, and the amount of time we’re allowed to stay.

So as the behemoth gorilla struts slowly towards us, I suddenly wonder if we’ve walked into a dangerous situation. And more immediately, am I doing “submissive” right?

I sneak a glance up away from my feet. He’s practically going to brush my arm as he passes. Assuming he’s planning to pass.

The gorilla shoots us a long, hard look.

And, thankfully, keeps walking past me, the soldiers, and the rebel rangers. With a rustle of branches, he goes deeper into the forest.

Anderson’s View: Who murdered the mountain gorillas?
