Rewind back two weeks, I'm the dumb guy sitting at home, looking at my new stampede vxl. Only two hours ago, I had the pleasure of unboxing this beast, now it's broken steering block lay in my hands.

After spending about 140 bucks on new aluminum stampede hopups from STRC, the thing is ready to roll. I take the beast out, bash around for a bit, and hell breaks loose.

Perhaps its because it got too hot, or something, but the bullet plated velineon motor wires came loose off the v3s. I sent the goddamn thing to traxxas, but still haven't gotten it back yet. So now, I have this beast sitting, waiting...

(Since this is my first post, I don't have most of the pictures to comment on as I go, later on it will be much better)

Al-Koholiker: Meistens heruntergekommene Assoziale ohne Arbeit.

Al-fa Romeo: Eine Britische Automarke.

Leider kein Bildmaterial vorhanden.

Some major changes to the time-lapse automaton project.

Some major changes to the time-lapse automaton project.

Unfortunately, the best I could get out of the servo was 0.35 degree movements by reading the potentiometer directly from the micro-controller. This made time-lapse video very choppy and generally poor looking. After some time spent thinking about how I had approached the project, I realized that the assumption that the micro-controller would not manage the camera made it much more difficult of a project than I had imagined. So, with some thought, I put my existing intervalometer aside, and decided to make it part of the TLA programming. Gone are the DC geared and servo motors, replaced by steppers w/ 200 steps per rotation, controlled via easydriver motor controllers. The easydrivers are chopping micro-step drivers, resulting in 1600 steps per rotation.

The key role that getting rid of the external intervalometer played in changing the nature of the TLA was that, now that I know when the camera is taking shots I can make any position changes between those shots. That is, before I had to guarantee slow, even movement that was minimal enough to never move more than one pixel on any axis during a shot. This made it nearly impossible to build a working system that would allow varying speed of movement. By changing the software to move a certain amount (or not) between shots, I could move as much or as little as I want, at a very high rate of speed if chose, giving me a lot of latitude for programming.

I split the motor/camera controls and UI functions into two different micro-controllers, and use two-wire interface for bi-directional communication. This allows me to add necessary delays to the UI and allows me to modify the next program to execute while one is running. It also doubles the EEPROM space for saved programs later.

The motor/camera control is designed such that a shot is taken at a timed interval (the allowed time is from less than a second up to 49 days between shots), and after the shot is taken, any motors are moved. The camera exposure time can be pre-programmed to any number of milliseconds, seconds, minutes, hours, or days, or can be set in the camera. The input to the camera is opto-isolated from the circuit to prevent damage. The camera will not fire is the motors are currently moving (to prevent blur should the camera delay time not allow for complete motor movement to next position). Each pan or tilt motor can move as little as 0.07 degrees in a single movement, or as much as 17.85 degrees. The truck motion can move as little as 0.01 inches, or as much as 2.55 inches between shots. You can also set each motor to only move once every n shots, up to 255. Meaning you could have as much as 34 years between movements (49 maximum days between shots * 255 possible shots skipped per movement), but that would just be absurd. =)

I went ahead and boxed up most of the UI, you'll see photos below. The only things missing are the buttons for manual control of the motors, they will go in the area to the right of the keypad. The UI is connected to the motor control unit and power input via an ethernet cable.

Also below are pictures of a new cart built around the stepper motor. It's made of 5/16th acrylic painted black, and aluminum brackets. The gear ratio is 3:1, meaning it takes 4800 total steps to turn the camera around a full 360 degrees. The final drive gear is attached to a 3/8" shaft that runs through a lubricated bushing. An acrylic plate is attached to the same hub as the gear, and a giotto's quick release plate is attached to that. Holes are counter-sunk on either side to prevent bolt heads from interfering with the plate or the gear movement. I still need to attach a piece of threaded rod that will slide in the attachment arm from the truck drive gear. It will also need a bit more re-enforcement from some metal plates before the tilt mechanism can be attached.

Large Patio Umbrellas - Big Look

One of the really cool trends we’ve seen over the past couple of years are larger areas needin

One of the really cool trends we've seen over the past couple of years are larger areas needing large patio umbrellas. The increase in the popularity of bigger patio tables that seat 12 to 16 people in your outdoor area has caused a need for patio umbrellas that measure 11 or 13 feet.

Also fueling this trend is being able to seat or entertain more people under a bigger shade spot. Larger patio umbrellas really fit the need of shading more area and more people.

Some people just LIKE bigger umbrellas. Why not? For a little extra, you can have a great big canopy that has more shade and a bigger decorative impact on your outdoor room. Most large patio umbrellas carry the some of the same feature as standard sized umbrellas, and the ones that don't offer something very special that you might want to consider.

For those interested in getting a bigger patio umbrella, here are some quick guidelines that might help you with your decision.

First step is to ask yourself if you really need a larger shade? Larger isn't always better if you don't have the area to support the shade you want. Watch for walls and greenery. You might think you have the space and the need for a big shade, but your house's exteriors walls or a hedge or your greenery might make that neccesity a mute point.

Tilt or Non-Tilting? Larger umbrellas can feature a tilt, or not. The ones that do tilt have a very effective tilting system that supports the weight of the canopy. A bigger canopy adds a lot of weight to the top of the umbrella, so tilting it might cause it to topple. Usually, lighter, more standard 11ft patio umbrellas have an efficient tilting system because the weight of the canopy has been controlled because of the amount of aluminum used. Heavy duty, large commercial patio umbrellas shouldn't tilt because of the weight involved; bigger, thicker ribs and heavier gauge aluminum tends to add a lot of bulk to the frame.

Aluminum or Wood? We've discussed the benefits of each before, and large outdoor umbrellas offer these choices as well. Both are equally popular, but we have a soft spot for the large wood market umbrellas. With the popularity of big teak and deluxe hardwood tables, a beautiful 11' wood market umbrella would really do the trick.

Offset Patio Umbrellas offer a fantastic way to shade larger areas without having to worry about a center pole. They can go over a table, or shade a seating area, or a larger shade spot. They are definitely a great choice, and always make an impact on the aesthetics of your decor. They are a very bold statement.

Placement. Without a doubt, a larger umbrella can completely change the way your patio or outdoor room looks. This is not a suggestion, but a fact. Where a standard sized umbrella can beautifully mix into it's environment, a big umbrella can either be a great addition or STAND OUT. If your placing a larger umbrella for a shade spot, not over a table, look to the surrounding area. Foliage, walls or even a hot tub in a large area will suddenly add a clutter affect when a large patio umbrella is placed there. We always suggest a keeping a minimum of 2 to 3 feet of clearance from the edges of your open umbrella and it's surrounding area.

Management. A larger umbrella is just that, LARGER. It's heavier and bulkier, so you should be prepared to have to lug it around or store it when not in use. Can you or a member of the family close and carry a heavier umbrella? We always advocate storing your umbrellas when not in use, but a larger umbrella can be one of the exceptions because of it's size. Regular cleaning and maintenance of a larger umbrella can be done in it's installation spot. However, if your larger umbrella is for table use, wiping and cleaning it difficult.

Storage. If you plan to store your umbrella in the Autumn and Winter months, make sure you have a good storage space for it. Being a bit larger can reduce the choices you have in where you keep your umbrella.

As always, the choice is ultimately yours. Keep in mind what would make YOU happy when picking out a large patio umbrella.

Apple 97-Key USB Keyboard

So are there going to be new macbooks + macbook pros? Most likely is what i have been hearing. I have herd that the new macbooks are going to made from aluminum and a possible redesign. The macbook pro could be made thinner, lighter, faster and have a redesign too. The picture above is a concept picture i found on one website where they share what they would like to see on the new macbooks. There has also been "supposed" leak picture of the new macbooks shell which looks just like the macbook airs casing, but with a few extra holes so you can take the battery out and what not. All i can say is watch this space, they could be released in the next month or so.

I have noticed that many people are having trouble finding post caps that are of a great quality or a design that matches what the CUSTOMER wants. I have created this blog to inform of general questions that may concern post caps, solar post caps, or L.E.D. low voltage post caps: *for example*

- What is the best method for concealing and holding wood post caps down?

- Information on solar post caps?

- How to install L.E.D. low voltage post caps?

Each of these post caps mentioned are offered on my website (www.coastalcaps.com), but I am also here to answer questions. PLEASE WRITE and feel free to ask about post caps!

Welcome to today’s 1:5:10:365 Tip for becoming a better steward for our home and planet environment.

1:5:10:213 EcoTip: The type of sacrificial anode you have in your hot water heater can help eliminate any rotten egg odor coming from your hot water. Unfortunately this generally means using an aluminum/zinc anode instead of the more typical magnesium anode. You should never drink water from your hot water heater. Instead heat your water on the stove or other method designed for drinking purposes.

It has been reported on some internet sites today that some iPhones have been developing cracks on the back part of the phone. Now being an iPhone 3G owner myself I have not gotten any cracks on the back of my phone. I have sat on it and put a lot of pressure on the phone at times on accident with no cracks. So I don't know maybe these people threw their iPhones across a room? Now another thing I must add is that some of these are a little

sketchy. In a couple of these pictures it just looks like someone drew a line on the back of a white iPhone 3G to get some attention. Some people dislike the new back on the new iPhones because it is made out of plasic and some people have said that it just felt cheap. Holding the iPhone 3G in my hand I have never thought that this phone felt cheap. Apple has made most of their products with this plastic; the iMac's before the aluminum case, the current macbooks are mad of this plastic, and the older iPods are made of this too. Now this plastic isn't a cheap plastic at all, a mojority of phones are made out of plastic anyways. The plastic back is better too because the older aluminum back would interfear with the iPhones' reception. With the plastic back you will have less interfearance with reception. So let me know what you think about all this, has your iPhone cracked yet? You think any of these pictures are real? Let me know. Thanks! :D

According to some bloggers with insider information, the new MacBooks will feature glass trackpads. Yes, you heard me right, glass. The trackpad is supposedly multi-touch (think iPhone) and can follow gestures as well. Also, the new MacBooks are thought to be made out of one piece of aluminum, making them more envirenmentally efficient, as well as thinner and more rounded (think MacBook Air). Various rumors floating around include the MacBooks featuring 16:9 screens in two different sizes, as well as not running the new Intel chipset. Battery life is also rumored to be improved, due to the addition of a 45nm processor, like in the MacBook Air.

Where are all the keyboard shortcuts in Finder? On a Windows, I used to be able to hit backspace to go up a folder, enter to open a file or folder, and even the handy context menu button that served as a keyboard shortcut for the right button click.
As soon as I got the new aluminum iMac, my first annoyance was the lack of (or so I thought) of a keyboard shortcut for opening a file or folder...Well I've finally found out, after about 8 months...

Get out of a folder (aka. go up the folder hierarchy): Command + ↑
Open a file/folder: Command + ↓
Delete file/folder: Command + Delete (I tend to use the command key on the right side but either works)
Go back/forward: Command + ("[" for left and "]" for right)
Go to folder: Command + Shift + G

Many scientists and engineers have looked at the way the WTC towers fell and remarked that it had the appearance of controlled demolition. The buildings collapsed symmetrically, and fell straight down. The speed of the fall indicated that the buildings were collapsing unimpeded.

__

The standard way to demolish a steel-framed building is to apply cutter charges to the supporting beams. The cutter charges consist of finely-powdered aluminum mixed with iron oxide, with added sulfur. This mixture contains both fuel and oxidant – it needs no air – and it burns hot enough to melt steel. The trade name for this product is “Thermate.”

There is a science to placing the charges in such a way that the building falls inward. It requires a great deal of expertise to keep a tall building from toppling over sideways.

Many scientists and engineers have looked at the way the WTC towers fell and remarked that it had the appearance of controlled demolition. The buildings collapsed symmetrically, and fell straight down. The speed of the fall indicated that the buildings were collapsing unimpeded. They must have had the “legs” simultaneously pulled out from under them, because a layered collapse from the top down would have taken several minutes, whereas the observed collapse took place in less than 20 seconds.

Another anomaly in the WTC collapse was the violent explosions. Firemen reported earthshaking blasts from the basement before collapse, and the impact areas in the upper floorss of the buildings exploded just at the onset of collapse. Jet fuel burns but cannot explode.

In an article published this week in the journal Environmentalist, chemical engineer Kevin Ryan collects evidence from EPA documents that suggest there was both Thermate and high-explosives in the debris from the WTC collapse. Ryan was formerly employed by Environmental Health Labs, a division of Underwriters Labs, before he was fired for raising these and other questions.

Fires at the WTC site persisted for weeks after 9/11, despite firefighters’ use of water and chemical extinguishers to smother the flames. This suggests that it was a fuel-oxidant mixture that was burning. Pools of red-hot molten iron could not have been caused by burning jet fuel or building materials, because these burn at a much lower temperature than steel melts.

Ryan’s evidence consists in traces of 1,3-diphenylpropane as well as sulfur and particulate matter, reported by the EPA to have appeared in spikes continuing as late as March, 2002. Ryan believes that these came from brief, intense fires ignited by the molten steel when it came in contact with yet-unburned plastic building materials during the clean-up process.

What we're looking at here could be the newest MacBooks from Apple, predicted to be coming out in September. They are aluminum (like the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air) and hopefully cheaper if the trend appearing in Apple's marketing strategy is any indication.

This "leak" is out only ~2 months after the special promotion on MacBooks and iPod Touches came out (along with the notice Apple said that they would be running out of stock of several products such as iPods, MacBooks, etc).

We first used Shoreline for our hurricane accordian shutters. We've been quite satisfied and the pricing seemed fair enough---although we've, fortunately, not needed to try them out in a real storm.
We used them a second time this summer to replace screens and lower panels and screen doors on our patio. Although, they did the job efficiently and basically as discussed, their follow through was lacking. The final fit and finish was not up to expectations. The team was friendly, responsive and trustworthy and the pricing seemed in line with expectations. We also had the front porch enclosed. We are very happy with that but, again, there are some issues with door fit. They got the job done adequately but not as well as we'd like to see.

On a scale of 1-10: I'd rate Shoreline a strong 8.0. ~Melinda & Rusty Barnes
