Brimm sat in his recliner, rocking. The salesman, Steven James, sat perched across from him on the mattress's edge, several bibles stacked between them and the salesman was pointing at them, explaining. The salesman's black briefcase lay propped up against the door.

"This cover is made of a simple, synthetic plastic--it's just made to look like the real thing, but this one, this one here? This one is made of real Moroccoan leather and it gets better with age, but it will cost ya' a tidy bundle."

"Uh-huh," Brimm muttered and lit a Player's Light, studying the salesman. His face was smooth, almost youngish, with a light stubble sandpapering his face, while the light in the salesman's dark beady eyes stared just up and over Brimm's shoulder--never directly at him. Brimm watched the man smiling and warbling on about psalms and prayers and the Lord and all the while staring just up over Brimm's shoulder.

"Of course," the salesman pitched, "these ones here are only samples and it will take a few weeks to get'em to you, if you order them that is." He grabbed a Bible with a Morrocooan cover and opened it to show Brimm the stylized New Times Roman typeface, which he explained, was unique to this series and by all accounts had been well received by the millions of people who have filled out the subscription, which he was presently sliding in front of Brimm.

Brimm took the sheet and thought of killing the man. It was a cold blooded thought that slithered in, hissing. I could do it, he reasoned pretending to analyze the form. I could go into the kitchen and grab a knife--just have to tell him I'm making coffee or something. Brimm looked up from the form and watched the salesman's mouth form words, but they were soundless and unconnected to anything, that drifted towards him in a liquid form and his ears, ill equipped, could not discern a word of it. Besides what difference would it make? I'd be doing that sorry sack of shit a favor. And anyways, he took my story.

"So...do you?" the salesman asked smiling, his eyes gazing over and beyond Brimm's right shoulder.

"Do I what, exactly?" Brimm replied shaking his head.

"Hey, come on now," the salesman asked his eyes darting around the room. "Are you fooling with me? Do you have one here already?"

        "Have what?"

         "A Bible."

        "No, no I don't."

"Oh, Come on now. There has got to be one here somewhere," the salesman said and leaned across the mattress to look in the milk carton night table.

"I don't have one," Brimm said spreading his hands, smiling. I mean, if a guy is wandering the streets at night, he must be alone, no family to miss him. No baboom-boom buddy....

"I see-ee," the salesman said curling his lip into the corner of his mouth and exposing a cracked front tooth. It seemed to Brimm to be an uneven thing for a Bible salesman. Probably got it trying to sell this crap.

The salesman got up from the mattress and stomped over towards the desk. One of the bibles tipped over and tumbled to the ground. Brimm looked at it and then back to his notebook. He recalled the notebook tumbling out of the bookrack back at The Write Tools Stationary Shop.

"I think I need a drink," Brimm said getting up from his chair. "Would you like a cup of coffee?"

          "Why that'd be great, sir."

"Indeed it would," Brimm said and headed into the kitchen, the salesman droning on behind him about shepherds and their flock. Brimm set about making the coffee mechanically heating the water, opening the cupboard, pulling out a jar of Maxwell House, scooping two lumps of instant into two cups and pouring the hot water glug, glug, glug into the cups which he put on a tray with two slices of bread and the Hienz 57. Next to these he put a large boning knife.

Fonte: http://www.ilgiornale.it/a.pic1?ID=273971

Everyone knows the story of Rapunzel—girl, shut away in a tower, evil step-mother, etc., etc., etc. They might’ve even heard retellings of the story… but never have I seen Rapunzel’s story told like this before. Set in the Wild West, this graphic novel is well written, fun, and entertaining. I couldn’t put it down. The story starts off with Rapunzel’s “original” story, and then rises from there. She and her best friend Jack swear revenge on her evil kidnapper, and the plot is set.

I have never read a graphic novel before… ever. But I read a great review on Miss Erin’s blog, and all of the kind folk on LittleRedReadingHood.com were getting very excited for it, so I thought I’d give it a try. For sure I wasn't disappointed. Shannon and Dean were hilarious—I swear that the good relationships in book were based off of their own. And Nathan Hale (illustrator with no relation to Shannon and Dean) was an amazing artist. Amazing. Let me repeat it again: amazing. I was shocked at how well everything was put together, how all of the ideas fit together like puzzle pieces… and still there were three master-minds behind this novel! I would be very interested to find out how they all did it… working together without killing each other in the process. And a piece of advice when reading this book: read slowly. Look at the pictures. Savor the book for itself. I did, and it was so much better that way!

So, the verdict of this review? I now have a much better appreciation for graphic novels, and will definitely start looking twice at them in the stores.

Scale (1-10): 10 (that’s two tens in a row people… maybe I’m getting soft)

Fring has now became the world’s first mobile VoIP application to be made publicly available for the Apple’s iPhone, enabling users to talk, chat and interact with other fring users (“fringsters”) and all of their online communities, using their iPhone’s Wi-Fi connection.

A light, sneak preview R&D version of the mobile VoIP application, developed in conjunction with the Holon Institute of Technology academic research labs in Israel, is now available for use on the iPhone. The pre-release version is designed to both answer demand from iPhone-owning, would-be fringsters and at the same time enable fring to learn about user experience, benefit from early feedback and influence the R&D process of the full release version, due for launch later this year.

The special pre-release version will enable iPhone users to get an early taste of application. They will also have the ability to make free and low cost mobile calls over Wi-Fi and use IM-style live chat with their online contacts, regardless of whether they are on their mobiles, PCs or other internet devices.

During login, fring automatically creates a single, integrated contact list, combining contacts from all of the users' selected internet communities. And because fring is an always-on, always-connected application, it offers features like real-time, PC-style "presence" indicators, which continually display whether contacts are online, away, offline, in a call, on their mobiles or in front of their PCs, providing new levels of freedom to interact and truly take the internet mobile.

For instructions on how to install fring on the iPhone click here.

The iPhone with 3G capabilities is slowly but surely becoming a reality as more and more sites seem to be finding leaked images of the handset. With all the hullabaloo of Vodafone bringing the iPhone to India, things could be looking up for Apple fans. It seems like it would probably have a more glossy finish and it also seems like the Dock/Speaker connectors might also be altered slightly.

Apart from that the next-gen iPhone could also be sleeker. Not that it isn’t already, but there’s always room for improvement.

The 3G version aside, Apple has launched the Beta 5 version of the iPhone SDK. This newer version will supposedly make things a lot easier for developers by making the existing tools a lot better and it should also be able to fix a few more bugs. The new SDK includes a set of tools like Xcode IDE and Instruments analysis tools as well as compilers, frameworks, and documentation for creating iPhone OS applications. It also has a test simulator to test the created applications.

The iPhone will soon have an alternate video player that, with any luck, will offer a solution to always having to use iTunes to convert and transfer videos. Zodttd has developed an iPhone VLC player that will also work on the iPod Touch. Of course the player is still being tested and comes with only a few decoders as of now but that will change over time as the developers will no doubt increase that list. It will provide playback for MPEG/ MPG, AVI, MP3 file formats as well as other media formats.

Hopefully after the research has been conducted and tests complete, the media application should also include decoders for formats like, DivX, WMA and WMV, with support for FLAC and OGG.
