An ultra slimline tablet from Albatron has been unveiled at Computex. The Rocker has a seven-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen, 128MB flash memory, Wi-fi, Bluetooth, a webcam, and SD and MMC slots. Albatron presenta GeForce 8000 series PCI

Schede video PCI: eh già, a qualcuno possono essere ancora utili. Dal Computex si viene a sapere che Albatron abbia sviluppato schede video della serie GeForce 8 basate su connessione PCI tradizionale con la scheda madre; questo permetterebbe ai possessori di sistemi non recenti di aggiornare il sottosistema video, anche con schede madri sprovviste di Slot AGP o PCI Express, e coloro che vogliono costruire un mini-htpc con le schede Via Mini-itx un piccolo sistema in grado di accelerare anche video in alta definizione. Tuttavia è proprio quest'ultimo aspetto a destare qualche piccola preoccupazione: bisogna in effetti vedere se la bandwidth messa a disposizione da una connessione PCI tradizionale possa essere sufficiente per gestire il flusso dati durante la riproduzione di un film in supporto ad alta definizione: probabilmente si. E' ovvio che le applicazioni ludiche e 3D non potranno essere accelerate da queste soluzioni.

Data il target, la Albatron ha deciso di utilizzare le gpu dei modelli GeForce 8400, GeForce 8500 GT e GeForce 8600 GT, chip non adatti in toto alle prestazioni 3D ma capaci di gestire la riproduzione dei flussi video ad alta definizione via hardware. A confermare ulteriormente questa intenzione è la presenza di connessioni Tv-out e HDMI. Il prezzo dovrebbe aggirarsi intorno ai 100 dollari.
