War with the Squirrles

I hope everyone is having a nice summer. In my case, summer means when I am outside I have to load up on the smelly sun screen and bug spray, wear funny looking floppy hats and huge sun glasses. I look extra-specially geeky with a whiter shade of pale pair of legs peeking out from under my shorts. DREAMY! I look like some kind of insect creature huddling in the shade while my husband spends as much time as he can in the sun. We live in a wooded area so he spends lots of time outside planting a vegetable garden and perennial flowers, weeding, cutting the grass, trimming hedges and carrying on his never ending war with the squirrels. This is a battle the squirrels are clearly winning. So far this year (he thinks--I'm not so sure it wasn't bunnies or groundhogs) they have not only decimated some of our garden, they have also plundered my husband's beloved potted plants and perennials. They have also outsmarted every type of squirrel proof bird feeder we have dared to hang outside. My husband is desperate for a victory so for the past few weeks he is plotting a squirrel offensive. He has drawn up what he believes to be the THE ultimate deluxe squirrel proof bird feeder. The past few days I have come home from work to find him happily assembling his squirrel busting bird feeder. I'll let you know how it works out!

You can limit your search in the Aladin (CUA libraries online catalog: http://libraries.cua.edu/welcome.html) catalog by location in the Title, Journal Title, Keyword and Guided Keyword searches. For instance, if you do a keyword search on "polymers", you get over 2700 results.. If you click on "post limits" button ( above the search results, on the right) and limit to Catholic University (this limits your search to items in CUA libraries only), your search results number is reduced to 176. Its MUCH easier to browse through 176 results than 2700! Please note you can't limit by location in an author search.

Aladin is a fantasy movie starring Amitabh Bachchan. Big B has posted latest images from the sets of flick ‘Aladin’. Don’t expect any glitzy stuff from this movie.

Yeah, movie is larger than life but dressing is very modern and not what we usually see in such type of movies. Big B explains his character…

Vous savez ce que c'est ? On traine sur des forums de geeks, on farfouille le net et forcement un jour on tombe sur un truc tellement énorme que cela vous met sur le cul et vous oblige illico à pondre un billet sur votre blog. Et bien c'est ce qui m'est arrivé il y a 3 semaines mais bon, le travail n'aidant pas, je vous fais part de mes fabuleuses réflexions seulement maintenant.

Bref, il y a quelques semaines, un mec apparemment attaché de presse (il se présentait comme ça, t’excite pas mon Gitou !), montrait sur de nombreux forum (dont celui de canard PC) les extraits vidéos que voici :

Présenté comme une vrai série des années 80, il est clair que ce dessin animé est un gros fake, vu la mauvaise qualité de l’animation et les sous entendus méga-pervers qui font rire au 4ème degré. Pourtant, des gens on vraiment cru que cette série existait à l’époque et certains pensaient même s’en souvenir. Et bien non cette vidéo est aussi fausse que le clip de Gilles Gabriel.

Cependant, j’ai voulu en savoir un peu plus et au cours de mes recherches, je suis tombé sur des vidéos bien plus rigolotes et traumatisantes puisqu’elles sont issues de « vrais » dessins animés.
Attention vous avez 30 secondes pour trouver le titre celui-ci…
(La vidéo met beaucoup de temps à charger mais croyez-moi ça vaut le coup d’œil)

C’est bon vous voyez ce que c’est? Et oui il s’agit bien d’Aladin, enfin je veux dire une version allemande et très moche du célèbre Aladin de Disney. La ressemblance est assez frappante et pour cause : il s’agit d’un vulgaire plagiat produit pas la tristement célèbre Dingo Production. Cette boite a une spécialité : Dés qu’un dessin animé de Disney parait, Dingo en reproduit une version toute pourrie à destination du marché de la VHS ou du DVD. Et quand la valeureuse grand-mère un peu aveugle veut faire plaisir à son petit fils, elle va directement acheter cette version d’Aladin dans un super marché au rayon promotion. Moi je pense juste à la gueule que doit tirer le gosse à la vue de ce spectacle affligeant :
- Mais mamie tu t’es trompé… c’est pas Aladin !
- Mais bien sur que si mon petit Kevin, regarde c’est marqué sur la jaquette !
- Nan c’est pas vrai c’est pas Aladin !
S’en suit, j’imagine, une grosse crise de larmes bien méritée.

Bref si vous avez du temps à perdre, je vous conseil de continuer à fouiller You Tube pour retrouver d’autre film Made in Dingo Prod. Et si l’un de vous est un sadique avec un petit frère très jeune sous la main, testez avec lui cette vidéo pour voir sa réaction.

I love my Mom, I love my Wife...why doesn't Disney?

The opening lines of the Disney-Pixar film "Finding Nemo" relate a (somewhat) touching exchange between a husband and wife as they settle into their new home and contemplate their soon-to-be family...They are in essence ' pregnant' (the fertilized eggs are outside the fish...cuts down on labor pain), and are setting up the new nursery (we've all been there) - here are the lines:
Marlin: Wow.
Coral: Mmm.
Marlin: Wow.
Coral: Mm-hmm.
Marlin: Wow.
Coral: Yes, Marlin. I... No, I see it. It's beautiful.
Marlin: So, Coral, when you said you wanted an ocean view, you didn't think you were going to get the whole ocean, did you? Huh?
[deep breath]
Marlin: Oh, yeah. A fish can breathe out here. Did your man deliver, or did he deliver?

In the ensuing scene, Coral (aka MOM/WIFE) and all but one of the eggs are devoured by some ravenous sea creature (an eel?). True to Disney's longstanding tradition, mom and wife are killed off and taken out of the picture before she has any impact at all. Hmmmmm....

"Mom? Mom...where are you!?"

I'm going to take a little break from the music scene to contemplate this Disney curiosity (pathology?). First a list of films (that I can recollect) that belong to the Disney Dead Mom's Club (These are in no particular order):

Bambi
Dumbo (OK,not dead, but caged and considered insane)
Snow White
Cinderella
Pinocchio (Maybe this is unfair, Gepetto is a pretty irresponsible Dad, though, getting pregnant with no mom to support him...)
Jungle Book (OK, Walt was an equal opportunity killer there, knocking Mom and Dad off...Speaking of equal opportunity, how about that "Lion King?" Just Dad was killed...)
The Little Mermaid (Actually, this may have been a divorce situation...in any event, mom/wife is no where to be seen.)
Pocahantas
Aladin (neither the hero or the heroine have a Mom)
The Fox and the Hound (another orphan situation with Tod, the fox)
Beauty and the Beast
Max and Goofy...(again, it's hard to say here, who would marry Goofy after all? Some quasi-dog lady probably just went home with him one night after one-too-many at the local pub, then left him with the kid...)
Cars (Just kidding, Cars don't really talk or have relationships - they are made on production lines which, if I remember my high school biology correctly, might also be referred to as asexual reproduction.)

So, as this large body of work demonstrates, Walt Disney, and the whole Disney family, it would seem, has an issue with parents generally, and specifically with moms...why? An internet search of Walt's family history doesn't offer a lot of insight (granted, I didn't look too hard)...Wikipedia states, "Walt and his sister Ruth attended the Benton Grammar School where he met Walter Pfeiffer. The Pfeiffers were theatre aficionados, and introduced Walt to the world of vaudeville and motion pictures. Soon, Walt was spending more time at the Pfeiffers' than at home...^[6]"(Read the whole bio here: Walt Disney at Wikipedia). Does the fact that Walt effectively left home at the age of 9 indicate some deep divisions in the Disney home? Could he have left home because of a domineering Mom who emasculated him and ensured that generations thereafter would suffer through scores of animated features which are, in essence, Walt's working out his childhood demons based on his fear of his mother? Probably, but without some major research, we can only speculate.

The other option, of course, is that Walt and company needed a quick dramatic jolt to jettison their early films deep into the public consciousness. What better than the death of a mom? What, after all, is more sacred than motherhood? The concept is shocking, and it doesn't take a cynic to imagine Walt and the boys sitting around trying to figure out how to move their little children's film from average to blockbuster. The room, of course, was full of cigar smoke, and one of the guys said, "Let's off the mom...that'll get some attention..." It's cheap, easy emotion, and, in a two hour film, it leaves lots of room for musical numbers and some comedy. After that first time, when Bambi hit the big numbers, the boys were hooked, and they've never looked back. It keeps paying, as "Nemo" showed us in 2003, sixty-one years after Bambi's 1942 release.

So why doesn't Disney love Moms? Simple, it doesn't pay, and, in spite of what Mickey and the rest would have you believe, this is all about the money...they can't let a few moms get in the way...

So, in tribute to Bambi's and all the other Disney moms and wives out there - here's an Evanescence song...we're with you Bambi and Bambi's Mom, Nemo and Coral, Dumbo and Dumbo's Mom, etc....you live on, no matter what Walt put you through!

Las palomitas "Popitas" de Borges, lider de ventas en España, han irrumpido en la pantalla con la idea de reposicionar su producto, con spots que sorprenden por lo visto hasta ahora en esta marca.

Para ello han recurrido a la agencia Tapsa de Barcelona, que ha desarrollado tres piezas para televisión utilizando tres géneros cinematográficos con el lema ‘Sin Popitas a las películas les falta algo'.

Sebenrnya aku bete dgn yang namanya sistem rating, dah lama ngerti, tapi tau ga sih, sebenrnya biarpun sampel penontonnya 55% diambil dari Jakarta, sapa yang paling banyak nonton? Ya PEMBOKAT, dan keluarga kelas menengah ke bawah, makanya rating sinetron paling tinggi
Tau ga sih, kalo rumah yang dirating itu dibayar? Trus orang2 kaya di Jakarta mana mau, atau sedikit bgt yg mau dirating, jelas repot, tiap mau pindah channel hrs masukkan identitas di remote, baru pilih channel. Trus orang2 jakarta kan kebanyakan mobile, jadi sapa yg tinggal di rumah nonton TV? Ya PEMBOKAT, dan orang2 yg tinggal di rumah, yg g ada kerja dan ngegosip. Akhirnya muncullah sinetron2 ga mutu tapi rating-nya tinggi, seperti sinetron yg banyak siluman2 dan bergaya2 India.
Maap kalo ga sopan, tapi begitulah kenyataannya.
Masih ada beberapa sinetron lokal yg aku hargai, seperti yg karakter2nya sederhana, cukup manusiawi, tidak berlebih2an, tokoh2 yg ekstrim baik yg selalu nangis dan yg jahat yg selalu jahat, karakternya ga nyata.
Ambil contoh drama2 Jepang, Cina dan Korea, tokoh jahat sekalipun punya karakter, kadang bisa lemah, kadang bisa nangis, biarpun sangat jahat. Sinetron lokal kita banyak yg tokoh2nya tidak punya karakter yg nyata, cenderung mirip cerita anak2 yg tokoh2nya cuma ada hitam dan putih, pembedaan yg jelas. Apa bedanya sama cerita dongeng buat anak seperti Snow White, Cinderella, Aladin.. Bagiku jauh lebih bermutu kartun2 Jepang yg orang bilang buat anak2, tapi karakternya sangat kuat.

Mending nonton Aladin X, Cinderella X,... he he..

Volt tegnap maturandusz. Én is voltam. Nem az ényém volt újból, pedig egyáltalán nem bántam volna. Most nem fogom elmesélni, hogy mi volt és ilyenek. Azt úgyis tudja aki volt és aki nem, azt meg nem érdekli. Ellenben volt egy pár figyelemre méltó - mondjuk úgy, hogy - történés.
Előre beszámított késés. Full-on túl töltött terem. Benézek. Semmi hely. Hihetetlen megérzéseimnek köszönhetően megtalálom a másik ajtót - megláttam az "EXIT" feliratokat és csak valahonnan jutnak ki. Benéz, diszkrét csodálkozás, apró hezitálás, de végül önelégült arccal falhoz támaszkodik. Kis idő múlva gyönyörűséges gondolatok által fűtött fejjel megfordulok, mivel valaki megveregette a vállam. Azt készültem mondani, hogy nincs nekem sem több helyem és meg sem fogok moccanni, mikor megláttam, hogy Jamm szólt. Természetesen elindulok felé, mivel örültem az ismerős arcnak, mire azt mondja, hogy nincs hely. Röviden - csináltunk. 5 perc után ülőhely is volt. Nem sokkal később megérkezett Aladin. Aladin, akkor lett Aladinná kereszetlve és nem tudom a hivatalos nevét. Jobban mondva az addigi hivatalosat, mivel tegnap óta csak símán Aladin. Ismertetőjelei: 100 százalékosan indiai és fekete, mint a halál; szokásosnál több piercing díszítette dicső koponyájának bőr által borított részét (kb. 6 darab). Mint később megtudtuk nem egyedül jött és nem is egyedül akart elmenni, de nem volt szerencséje (balfasz). Szerintem nagyobb sikere lett volna, ha a varázsszőnyegén érkezik és a Dzsinit sem hagyja otthon, de ő tudja. Egyébként nem tud magyarul, és románul is csak egy nagyon keveset. Nem tudtuk eldönteni, hogy Aladin-földön milyen nyelven beszélnek az emberek és arra a megegyezésre jutottunk, hogy aladinul.
Itt szeretném megjegyezni, hogy mától lehet jelentkezni ingyenes aladinórára, melyet én tartok. Versenyek lesznek szervezve és értékes díjak kerülnek kiosztásra. De mivel alacsony költségvetésű, non-profit egy rostán kell átesniük a jelentkezőknek. Nem kell megijjedni, nem nagyon szigorúak az elvárások. Csak két kitétel van: a jelentkező nőnemű legyen és találjon valami közöset saját magában és találomra egy FHM, CKM, Playboy, Hustler címlapon szereplő csajjal.
Visszatérve a maturanduszra. Egy nagyon érdekes és meglepő dologra hívták fel a figyelmemet. Ez a dolog a következő: ha érdekel egy műsor (jelen esetben a maturandusz) és figyleni akarod azt, akkor erre a legmegfelelőbb hely a karzaton a leghátsó sorba ülni. Ezt abból tudtam meg, hogy felhívták rá a figyelmemet. Egy nő a hátunktól rettentő elragadó hangon, mi tőbb ennél is megnyerőbb hangsúlyal hozta a tudtunkra, hogy ő szeretne figyelni, mivel érdekli és tőlünk nem tud. Mire az egyik megjegyezte, hogy lehet, hogy erre nem a legmegfelelőbb helyen ül. Ez a megjegyzés nem igazán segítette elő azt, hogy csendben legyünk, mivel 5 percig ezen szórakoztunk.
És most jön a hab a tortán. Felhívott egy csoporttársam, aki azt mondta kb. egy héttel ezelőtt, hogy nem üzletel velem, mivel átverem. Átadtam a telefonomat, hogy beszéljen vele az egyik haverom. A felvétel megvan, mivel használok beszélgetésrögzítőt. Hehe ....
Egyébként a műsor fasza volt, a hangulat is, csak jót tudok mondani. Várom a következőt. Talán majd ma este. Több mint valószínű.
