Evidently, Lulu isn't the only person who is fond of Ms. Deyn; for a few years now, up to and including Spring 2008, runways have been becoming increasingly bland, populated entirely by identical (and faintly Lolita-ish) models of vague Scandinavian descent. But with the Fall 2008/2009 season, designers appear to be employing women of the Deyn school of appearance; these models' faces are interesting, unusual and - in some cases - even flawed. Lulu wonders if this trend will continue, and hopes that Fashion Week will offer some answers.

Josh Beech, the 22 year old lead singer of rock band SNISH will front the print advertising campaign for the global Levi's 501 re-launch. The print ads were directed by Japanese-Italian fashion director Nicola Formichetti and shot by David Vasiljevic, in order to inject a youthful new image with a slimmer, straighter cut.

Levi’s 501 is being introduced in mid to dark tones in new vintage-inspired finishes that ranges from minimally to mid-worn.

To help the re-launch, a mega global campaign titled ‘Levi’s® 501® Jeans - Live Unbuttoned’ has been created by Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) agency.

The campaign spans TV commercials, print and outdoor ads, public relations, retail windows set-ups and in-store point-of-sale materials.

Josh Beech was chosen for his 'raw edge'. He wears an unbuttoned pair of 501s and a white t-shirt in some shots, and just tattoos on his naked skin in others.

The stylish black and white ads are set to debut in fashion magazines such as Dazed and Confused, V Magazine, Another Man, Arena Homme + and Vogue Hommes Japan.

Josh Beech has already made a strong splash in the fashion world. He recently starred on the dramatic cover story of Vogue Hommes International and the Burberry Spring Summer 08 ad campaign alongside top models Agyness Deyn and Lilly Donaldson.

1.       Freaking Agyness Deyn, I don’t like her as a model and I certainly don’t like her as some ‘groupie’ socialite. She first started as some hippy-ish, British model now she’s splashed over the covers Grazia (why did Alison leave HB for it anyway?), is always in non-fashion but wannabe magazines and today I found her in the entertainment section of the MX (a free, sort of up to date newspaper) for shagging some band. I am so over it. This is my opinion, I don’t want to see stupid anonymous hate mails about it.

2.       My darling friend Phoebe Hayman, Phoebe is adorable , very sweet but not as innocent as she looks. She is one of my best friends in class (the other is Marla), she keeps me company and we do the silliest things together. Like in the mornings, all we do is complain about how tired we are and how much we want coffee (Gloria Jean’s latte with numerous extra shots), in class we’re always emailing each other, we run for the early train everyday and the most entertaining thing we ever did was run up and down the Parliament Station escalators 3 times, purely because we were bored and wanted to get fit. For those of you who don’t know about the Parliament station escalators, it is a giant flight of moving stairs that is extremely long, and dangerously high. We loved it and I love her! But not as much as Bianca, sorry Phoebe. I don’t want to see stupid anonymous “are you gay?” comments either. As much as I love Katy Perry and my friends, I’m not gay.

And they've been dating for what, two months? I've had a longer relationship with my crappy cellphone (which I really, really ought to replace sometime soon).

I comfort myself with a) the fact that if Albert wasn't such an insanely good guitarist he wouldn't be my type; b) the fact that he isn't my favorite Strokes member anyway (Hi Julian!) and c) butter cookies, num.

Also, may I just say that leather jacket + slacks = no no. I expected eclectic taste from Agyness, but Albert was responsible for getting The Strokes all cool-looking! What happened?

Bleh what do I know. He's a musician, he can do whatever the hell he wants. Including famous models.

Iles tam postow nizej zarzekalam sie, ze nie kupuje rodzimych pisemek - bo nudne, sztampowe i slawiace krajowe pseudo gwiazdy w jasnogorski sposob. I tak bylo ale los chcial, ze wypadla mi ostatnio podroz do Poznania i z braku czegos innego do czytania - chwycilam polskie Elle. Okladka w patriotycznej bieli i czerwieni, z Sara Jessica parodiujaca dmuchnieta Marylin Monroe,nie zachecala, no ale ( ponoc) nie mozna wszystkiego sadzic po opakowaniu. ( dziwne, ze ostatnia okladka naszego Elle ze straszliwie sztucznie usmiechnieta i zretuszowana Kylie byla jeszcze gorsza no ale coz..).

Na poczatek rzecz jasna kartkuje magazyn w poszukiwaniu edytoriali, od ktorych to zawsze zaczynam ogladanie jakiejkolwiek modowej gazety. No i mamy - Kasia Kniola w obiektywie (obiektywach?) modnej parki fotografersow: Krajewskiej i Wieczorka. Starannie dobrana miejscowka przywodzaca na mysl tajskie plenery ( ogrod botaniczny w Powsinie), kupa szmatek od Max Mary przeplatana z rzeczami z sieciowek i dodatkami exclusive typu buty Chloe czy Barbara Bui i ....tyle. Kniola, ktorej awangardowa urode tak fajnie pokazuja zagraniczni fotografowie ( cyrkowa sesja w greckim L'Oficiel) albo czasem rodzimi choc mniej znani od parki wyzej wymienionych ( Mateusz Stankiewicz w czerwcowym Exclusiv) - wypada tutaj zwyczajnie ladnie, mdlawo i przewidywalnie. Zero charakteru i pazura. Same foty podobnie. Wycwiczone na sile pozy,ukazujace, ze to naprawde ciezka praca byla ta sesja..Ha. Nie neguje , ze sesje nie sa ciezka praca, wymagajaca od calego zespolu umiejetnosci, profesjonalizmu i zgrania. Tylko czemu ogladajac liczne edytoriale w magazynach typu French, Tush, Numero czy Another Magazine - widze przede wszystkim swietne foty, lekkosc, fantazje, zabawe? Modelki czesto uchwycone sa w ruchu albo w pozach totalnie przypadkowych a mimo to wygladaja swietnie. Stylizacje maja podobnie zachowana lekkosc i klimat. I nie trzeba modelki obwieszac zawsze niczym papugi, torebkami, wisiorkami i tona innych gadzetow by bylo fashion. Fajnie, ze mamy w Warszawce butik z platformami Barbary Bui a Swarovski ma fajne krysztalki i wszyscy nam wszystko wypozycza bo jestesmy ze znanej gazety. Ale czy od razu trzeba to pokazywac napakowane na jednej ,biednej modelce? Stylizacja gra w sesjach fashion naprawde duza role, jest nieodlaczna czescia, tuz obok pracy fotografa i modelki. Potrafi zrobic z foty perelke. Potrafi tez zrobic gniot. Nie dziwi mnie potem opinia znajomej, pracujacej dla renomowanej, nowojorskiej agencji: "Wiesz Magda, czasem nawet fajne foty wychodza polskim fotografom ale stylizacje sa pozal sie boze.." W przypadku sesji z Kasia Kniola - nie popisala sie ani druzyna stylistow ani duet fotografow. Retusz zrobiony przez nowojorskie studio Sous le Etoiles (o maj gad) tez jakos nie pomogl... Coz... Zaraz za edytorialem z Kniola, polskie Elle serwuje nam przedruk z Elle greckiego. Klasyczna, studyjna sesyjka z motywem przewodnim w postaci koloru zoltego. Fajne, proste stylizacje, dobra modelka, dobre pozy i swiatlo. Niby nic wielkiego ale takich prostych studyjnych, dobrych sesji w polskich periodykach tez jakos nie za wiele sie uswiadczy... Po zoltej, greckiej sesji czas na kolejna polska, zdjeciowa odslone - tym razem Robert Ceranowicz, sesyjka streetowa typu - modelka biega sobie po ulicach a ja z aparatem za nia. Jest jakis tam pomysl i same foty tez nieglupie. Maja w sobie nute owej swiezosci i przypadkowosci, ktorej to absolutnie zabraklo w sesji Krajewskiej i Wieczorka. Jedyne co mnie zemdlilo to kolejna eksploatacja modelki z Model Plusa - Kamilii Wawrzyniak. Bez tej dziewczyny nie moze sie od dluzszego juz czasu obyc zadne nasze modowe pismo. Jest klasycznie urodziwa, byc moze fajna we wspolpracy i akurat dostepna w kraju ale czy naprawde nie ma w Polsce innych rownie fajnych ( albo fajniejszych) twarzy? I na zakonczeniu ellowych edytoriali - mamy sesyjke studyjna by Todd Barry. Fajne ciuchy na nijakiej modelce i nijakich fotach. Zapomina sie o calosci w sekunde po obejrzeniu. The end.

Po uczcie obrazkowej, czas na uczte literkowa. Czytam sobie w Elle pierwszy wpis w cyklu "Elle kultura" - Jest o Alicji Bachleda-Curus. Czytam i nie wierze...Myslalam, ze czasy laurek i hymnow pochwalnych ku czci - minely juz dawno. Ale polskie Elle goraco temu zaprzecza, plodzac za pomoca piora dziennikarki Marii Barcz, okrutnie napompowany poem o bohaterce narodowej Alicji BC, ktorej to dane bylo przyjsc na swiat w Meksyku ( ktorego to nawet nie zdazyla zapamietac bo rodzice szybko wrocili z placowki i Alicja wychowywala sie i mieszkala w Krakowie) i dlatego podczas studiow aktorskich w Nowym Jorku, jak na rodowita meksykanke przystalo ( wow!) szczegolnie dotkliwie dotknely ja mrozy w metrze i biedactwo musialo sie owijac koldra a potem zrezygnowac z Nowego Jorku i katastrofalnych zim i przeniesc sie do Los Angeles, gdzie do dzis dnia mieszka, teskni za Polska i tu cytat: "czasem z nostalgii ulepi pierogi". Ja rozumiem, ze takie historyjki, lapiace za serce niejedna kure domowa, mozna znalezc w 'Pani domu" czy innej "Tinie" ale w magazynie Elle..? Slow mi brak.

Na deser czyli na ostatniej swojej stronicy - Elle nam pokazuje z kogo, wszystkie szanujace sie fashionistki powinny brac przyklad - i mamy fatalne foto Agyness Deyn, mianowanej przez nasze Elle na krolowa stylu vintage i najslynniejsza modelke swiata. Abstrachujac od tego czy faktycznie jest najslynniejsza ( notabene mam na nia alergie i nie znosze na nia patrzec) i ze mam prawo miec kompletnie inny gust ( mimo, ze vitage nie jest mi obce i sama czesto korzystam z second handow) to na zalaczonym obrazku widze koszmar bedacy lekko zmodernizowana wersja Cindy Lauper i Madonny z poczatkow ich kariery. I o ile Madonna w takiej stylizacji byla po prostu soba to "slynna" modelka Agyness wyglada jak wyrosniety, utleniony strach na wroble, silacy sie na luz i fantazyjny mix a'la lata 80te i byleco z szafy mlodszej siostry. Wybacz mi drogie Elle ale nasladowaniu Agyness - mowie stanowcze i zdecydowne - nie!

As for Aggie, she's always gorgeous, having youth and celebrity always helps, but you know, I'm loving it.  I actually had this style in the early noughties, but my hair was jet with a violet streak @ the front.  I know, I'm a tad conventional, but hey, I must have been ahead of my time ...

Playing happy families ...

I quite like Agy, who's hailed to be the next Kate Moss.  I saw her interviewed on TV a little while back and was intrigued to hear a down-to-earth northern accent come from the exotic, androgynous face that I'd seen plastered absolutely everywhere.

People criticise her for her edgy style but even more applaud it.  Personally I think she blows that aging hag Kate Moss right out the window.  Whereas Kate is usually papped with a constant sneer etched on her face, Agy always looks really relaxed and happy. 

Hmm, maybe a few more years in the industry will change that - but I hope not.

Saying that, I don't like her new hair much.  She was probably sick of everyone copying her last 'do but I bet all the sheep are now running to their salons with this picture in tow.
