Biar tambah oce, foto-foto arsitektural pun mendominasi.

I can't help it. It hardwired in my brain !!

Recently, Adobe released the beta of Photoshop Express, a free photo editor. Yes, you read that righ

Recently, Adobe released the beta of Photoshop Express, a free photo editor. Yes, you read that right - it's FREE, a real departure from the norm for Adobe. As you might expect, it's based on their flagship product, Photoshop CS3. The other big deal about this product is that to use it, all you need do is go to Adobe's web site, and sign-up. It's run completely within a web browser, no need to download a thing. You simply upload your digital photos via their slick interface, do your things to them, and store up to 2 gigabytes of them on Adobe's servers.

Full-featured Slide-show Interface

One toadily neat feature of Photoshop Express is that you can create a beautifully rendered feature-rich slide-show from your photos, (take a look at one I created here.) and then generate a link to e-mail to your friends, or place on a web site. Even better, if you're a Facebook user, Photoshop Express has the benefit of a direct interface with the social network!

Down the Saas path We Go

This product sees Adobe joining the tide wave of companies that are working diligently to give us great reasons to return to their web pages; I must say, I'm lovin' the trend so far. In technical jargon, this new product is know as "Software-as-a-service" (Saas). With study after study solidifying the fact that dollars spent on web-based purchases are one of the few places that will continue to have positive numbers, we're not going to see this trend slow down anytime soon.

Still in Beta Test mode - Snafu's Possible

First of all, remember Photoshop Express is in beta testing mode right now. This means that there is a good likelihood that you'll run unto a few snafu's here and there. There's a handy-dandy feedback button to make it easy to let Adobe know if you do! I used the slide show tool to create a show from some images I shot at a house and garden show in the Orwin section of Winter Park this past April. There is a resize slider that appears when you hover over the upper right portion of the screen.

View Orwin Slide Show in Adobe Photoshop Express

For those that would try Adobe's Photoshop but may be barred from doing so due to the price tag that can be anwhere from say $100 to $600, Adobe has now joined the masses and is offering a totally free option of it's popular imaging software, Photoshop.

Adobe is calling it "Photoshop Express".

Photoshop Express is entirely Web-based. It can be used with any type of browser, computer, and operating system.

Adobe says providing Photoshop Express for free is part marketing and part a strategy to create up-sell opportunities. Adobe hopes some customers will move from it to boxed software like its $99 Photoshop Elements or to a subscription-based version of Photoshop Express that's in the works.

Ron Glaz, a research analyst at IDC, stated "It's one of those things, if you can't beat them, join them. If they don't join them, the long run could be really painful."

A free version of Photoshop is long overdue IMO; we've long had several image based free software options, such as the storage solution Shutterfly Inc., photo-editing service Picnik, and the image-sharing site Photobucket Inc.

Then there is:

FastStone

GIMP

Irfanview

Photofiltre

Picasa

Pixia

Better late than never?

Photoshop Express is available in Beta, and Adobe encourages our feedback on how to improve it. What we like, what we despise, what's missing, what puts us to sleep. Adobe has opened a spot to sound off on Facebook, their Facebook page is here. Adobe seems to have an affinity with Facebook, for instance there is also the ability to use Photoshop Express to edit already posted Facebook pictures without leaving the web.

Photoshop Express offers 2GB of space for free image storage. Before joining and uploading your own images, you can take a 'test drive', and use images made available by Adobe to tinker with. On the left-hand side of the test drive screen there is a link to three more sites; Photobucket, Picasa, and of course, Facebook.

Notice in the top right hand corner is a little blue square; clicking on this little box provides the ability to switch from running Photoshop Express full-screen, or inside your web browser window.

Images can be viewed in a Table View, which includes the date the photo was taken, posted, modified, and bits of other image data. There is also the option of viewing images as a grid, or a single photo.

How Adobe's Photoshop Express will stack up to our other free options already available is yet to be seen. Providing a free version of software already a verb among the tech-savvy is at least a step in the right direction.

If you've tried Photoshop Express or know others that have, what do you think? How does it compare to the other free image software solutions already available, and... how does it compare to the pay-for version of Photoshop?

For those, like me, who from time to time need to use Photoshop, know that althogut it is very powerful, it is also rather complicated to use, mainly if you are not a pro that need to use it all the time.

Well it has been a while since my last post. Mainly I have just been overwhelmed with work. Most recently was Easter weekend. Here at Pequea Church we had a Good Friday service and three Easter morning services. Just wanted to take some time to tell you about some cool things happening in the worship arts world. Number one is that I am a supporter of MediaShout. Our technical team has been using MediaShout for many years now, and most of the time I love it. One cool thing that the guys over at MediaShout just announced was a player for MS presentations so that a presentation created in MS can be played on any windows based machine without having the entire MS program installed. Check it out online at mediashout.com. Two other cool resources. Number one is Adobe Photoshop Express! What a cool new online photoshop utility. For those of you who can't afford to purchase the full version of Photoshop this is a tremendous resource. The web app is really well designed and seems to be working really well. The program is from Adobe and right now it is only in beta...this is the future of applications folks! Get involved with this sweet project! Click here to check it out! Secondly if you are in the church media world you must check out churchmediadesign.tv. This is a really valuable resource. About once a week Brad takes about 20 min or less to walk through a topic related to church media whether it be his current series on series graphics or previous episodes on podcasting this guy is spending some serious time creating this FREE resource! Subscribe to his podcast, watch his recent episodes online, and leave him some feedback...Brad rocks!

I just signed up for Adobe’s newest gizmo. It’s an online, Flash based, digital photo s

I just signed up for Adobe's newest gizmo. It's an online, Flash based, digital photo storage and basic manipulation program called "photoshop express"and my first impression is pretty favorable.

Right off the bat, I am impressed with the layout. Since I use Photoshop and have used other photo manipulation programs from Adobe like Lightroom I was put right at ease with the layout. Things like bulk upload and creating albums were simple and intuitive. For bulk upload you open a folder and use [Shift] or [Ctrl] to select the images you want. To create an album you can either drag a photo/group of photos from your browser and drop them onto the + sign next to the album list or you can click on the plus sign and create a new album with no content.

Manipulating photos is also a breeze, just click on a picture and you're presented with several options like crop, saturation, hue, and so on. No, you old photoshop dogs, you can't mess with the curves or change the levels. Sorry, this is for beginners.

And that's the idea behind the program: get beginners hooked on photoshop. If you take the program for what it sets out to do then it's doing an outstanding job. If you're expecting more, you may be disappointed, but then you're probably the kind of person who's disappointed when he hears that there's free ice cream, but it's only Chocolate ice-cream.

One of the other interesting features is that there are api's for Facebook, Photobucket, and Picasa. You click on the link, put in your username and password and the application downloads your images. What a neat idea. Let's put aside the security concerns (you're passing your username and password through another system...) and just deal with the functionality. In a single interface I can download, manipulate, and upload a photo from another photo storage site. That's pretty darned cool.

Unfortunately, they only have Facebook, Photobucket, and Picasa right now. I would expect to see MySpace, flickr, and others populating soon.

The other cool thing the system does is it uploads the EXIF data. Right now it only makes use of the date portion (as far as I can tell) but there might be more functionality coming on line for that feature as well.

It's not all strawberries and rhubarb though. The beta launched today and so a bit of slowness is to be expected, but there were times when I wanted to rip my hair out. Uploads were slow, manipulations are slow, and in more than one instance the whole application just froze up. I also found that it runs better in Internet Explorer than it does in Firefox, which I don't like. In fact, Firefox crashed twice during my testing. Again, this is stuff that will get worked out over time, but it's a bit frustrating now (it's a Beta test! calm down!)

The UI was also a bit frustrating, every time you delete a picture, it jumps you back to the top of your photo list. With the time delays as it reloaded the whole gallery after every delete and then jumped you back to the top I was cringing.

The other odd thing was I must have spent a half an hour looking for the place to set my profile image. In most of these social networking types of sites it's in your profile. But here you have to click on the photo you want to use and select the option from a long list. They'll fix this I'm sure.

But other than that, it's a darned cool program. It lets me set metadata, sort, organize, do basic manipulation, pull photos from other storage sites, and present my pictures in a little gallery.

Not bad for free.

Go check it out.

Conclusion ?

Adobe unveiled photoshop express today. Adobe joins the likes of other online including Picnik or Phixr that offer photo editing and sharing. Express provides web-based picture editing platform to online users. This is in beta phase and adobe has opened it for mass users. Adobe will also accept users' feedback to provide features in the final release that will happen in 2008. Adobe has notified that final product will also be a free service with 2 GB space. Free service is a must to have feature to get mass audience acceptance. This will Advanced users can take a premium service.

There are some other cool features that will encourage the mass acceptance:

1. Easy to use - a demo showed that a picture could be edited in minutes (I have not tested it myself)

2. Photoshop Express provides users to connect with popular online services like Facebook, Photobucket or Picasa (Flickr will also be added shortly). This will increase the acceptance rate of this software.

I hope that this platform will provide common users a nice experience of picture editing. When I tried to join the adobe photoexpress then first it asked me to install Adobe Flash Player 9. I did not like this obstruction. Adobe would have allowed me to register without installing Flash 9 and would have asked to install Flash 9 later.

Just launched today, free version of the Adobe Photoshop, well online version anyway. So now if you wondered what your Canon G9 images would look like processed in Photoshop you can find out.
