Yes, (see above) since 2004 I've gone from 6,000 emails to 16,000 that is with all spam removed. Wondered why I couldn't get any work done these days! (Notice that I actually send a lot less now - I try to use the phone more).

You can see who sent you how much, what and when + get threaded conversations and all files in one spot. Not to mention how quickly you responded etc. Also links through to Linked In for additional information which is kind of handy.

A little slow installing/indexing (took about 35 mins for me) but then again, look at the amount of information this thing is crunching.

Will it ever happen? I think it would be a boon for those of us on laptops as such cards would then become more commonplace rather than being seen as the poorer cousin. My laptop has the ExpressCard slot, not a whole heck of a lot available for it last I looked, why?

I remember years ago when I was still a student putting up on my own geocities website (OMG, how long ago was that!) a diagram relating to sound cards in desktops and why, at that time (mid-90's) the ports were all black and not colour coded. Bugger me if only a couple of years later creative began shipping cards that colour coded ports with connectors similarly coloured - a lot easier to figure which plugs into which.

What are your obscure technology ideas, wish lists?

While I could go on and on about how it's faster and more secure and just plain better than anything else :P , but since anyone can go to firefox's website and figure this out for themselves I will focus on the little details that make my life more enjoyable.

1. My biggest irk when using a password saver while logging in is that I am unsure whether or not I typed in the correct password. I mean if I save the wrong password then every time I come back I have to erase the auto-filled one and replace it with the correct one. With Firefox 3.0 you can now wait until AFTER you have logged in to save your password. This may seem like something small and insignificant but it really is a timesaver to not have to cycle through my ten+ passwords I use for various things.

2. The new favorites (Bookmark) system. While slightly bored and unimpressed with it when reading about this new feature it is now eaily one of my favorites (No cheesy joke intended). Now instead of having to type out entire addresses or open up my favorites I simple type in a letter or two or a tag word. Think of it like Google but for every page I've been to lately. If I want to find that digg article about aardvarks I looked at earlier all I have to do is type "aardvark" and it brings up a list of everywhere related to that word that I've surfed recently. Is this a sign of laziness? Yep. I don't want to waste time trying to figure out where in the world I saw that really cool t-shirt online.

3. What would Firefox be without add-ons? Pretty much like IE, Safari, and Opera.... boring (At least to me)! I know this isn't exactly new but what is new is the fact that I can now search for new add-ons right in the add-ons manager instead of having to go to a webpage. Again seems small but really is very convienent

4. It shows me where a page is from. This saves me the time of pulling out my tin-foil hat to be sure that I'm safe. Is there really any point to it for the day to day user? Not really except that it's interesting to see where some content is from. Also with this is a new phishing security. The little guy has a name but I forgot it and don't feel like looking it up....It might have been Bob.....or Sam.....one of those mundane three letter names.....Tom?

I would keep listing things I like about Firefox but that could take awhile and then I'd have to rename the post "1001 reasons Firefox is better!". So I think I'll publish this post, remove my tin-foil hat (Have to be careful these days :P ), and go to sleep! Anyway this post is just for those paranoid people who are waiting to switch to Firefox 3 because they aren't sure if it's safe. Trust me, the only complaint I have so far is that my facebook add-on (Boost) from Firefox 2.0 no longer works, but that should be fixed by the Boost developer soon and is no fault of Firefox. So don't worry about switching to the best web browser there is, in my opinion, and getting to your internet pages faster and more enjoyably .

Bom, quanto à nova versão... tem umas coisas legais, tipo:
* a visualização em tela inteira (F11) ficou maior - agora a barra das abas só aparece quando coloca o mouse no canto superior da tela;
* a tão falada nova barra de endereços é bem bacana - é tipo a busca por endereços de e-mails no Gmail: tu vai digitando e ele mostra resultados em qualquer parte do link ou título dos sites já acessados;
* a estrelinha na barra de endereços, pra favoritar rapidamente o site é bem prática, ainda mais se integrada ao del.ico.us com a extensão deli.cio.us bookmarks;
* agora dá pra visualizar uma imagem mais facilmente: basta arrastá-la para a barra das abas e ela abre em outra janela, economizando cliques;
* quando coloca senha em sites, abre uma barra (tipo as de bloquear pop-up) perguntando se quer memorizar o usuário e a senha, bem mais simpático que a janelinha pop-up das versões anteriores;
* quanto à segurança, o que observei é que, em vez de vir uma janela pop-up falando sobre o certificado de segurança do site [o da UFRGS sempre aparecia...], na primeira vez que entra num site assim, ele avisa que não tá validado e tal e pergunta se quer prosseguir e abrir uma exceção a esse site - dessa maneira, ele nunca mais pergunta se tu quer realmente entrar e aquele blablabla todo. E dá pra tirar da lista de exceções, caso mude de idéia.

Ademais, visualmente não achei tão inovador... os ícones do tema padrão estão mais redondinhos e tal, mas nada muito significativo.

O que me irritou profundamente nessa nova versão - e sempre vai ter esse problema em novas versões - é que nem todas as extensões são compatíveis. Cogitei seriamente reinstalar a versão antiga, porque sem Tab Mix Plus eu não-fi-co!! [/ataque].
Porém, fuçando no site de add-ons, achei um link para uma versão que funciona com a 3, mas que não tava lá no site... a quem interessar: Tab Mix Plus para Firefox 3.

Die Liste der neuen Features ist lang und so wirbt man mit der intelligenten Adresszeile und dem 1-Klick-Lesezeichen, ebenso wie mit einer gesteigerten Sicherheit und deutlich höherer Performance.

Auch ich hab ihn die Tage mal installiert. Meine ersten Eindrücke:

Performance:

Bisher bin ich sehr positiv überrascht, der Startup des Fuchs geht deutlich schneller vonstatten als noch in der vorherigen Version, ebenso wirkt sämtliches Verhalten des Firefox schneller und zuverlässiger, wobei das alles subjektive Empfindungen sind, weil ich sowohl beim 2. als auch beim 3. Fuchs nie irgendwelche Zeiten gestoppt habe.

Sicherheit:

Zu diesem Thema, kann ich persöhnlich recht wenig sagen, allerdings gibt es schon den ersten Bericht zu einer größeren Sicherheitslücke (Hier zum bericht darüber), die nicht genauer spezifiziert wurde. Allerdings besteht diese wohl auch im Firefox2, sodass man sich mit der 3er Version nicht verschlechtert.

Ansonsten soll man schon vor dem öffnen von Phishing-Seiten und ähnlichem gewarnt werden und das Öffnen der Seiten ablehnen können

intelligente Adresszeile:

Ich persöhnlich kann jetzt keinen besonderen Unterschied zur alten Adresszeile ausmachen, ausser dass die neue intelligente Adresszeile, die vorschläge aus der History mit Favicon und Titel anzeigt und darunter noch die Adresse, alles sauber optisch getrennt, sodass ich sie etwas übersichtlicher finde als die alte.

1-Klick-Lesezeichen:

Ab sofort befindet sich in der Adresszeile am rechten Rand ein kleines sternchen, ein einfacher klick und die Seite ist ab sofort in den Lesezeichen zu finden. Ein weiterer Klick aufs nun gelbe Sternchen und man kann das Lesezeichen editieren, in einen anderen Ordner verschieben (Standard: "Unsortierte Lesezeichen") oder auch wieder löschen. Eine nicht unbedingt nötige Neuerung, aber irgendwie doch ein recht nettes Feature

Die neue Markierfunktion:

eigentlich nichts weltbewegendes, aber ungemein praktisch. Man kann wenn man per Mausklick und ziehen des Cursors einen Text kopiert nun durch drücken der STRG-Taste absetzen und an einer anderen Stelle weitermachen. Das ist super praktisch denn so kann man umgehen, dass man Bilder oder Werbeboxen mit markiert und spart sich wenn man das Ganze irgendwohin kopieren will, das dauernde wechseln der Programmfenster oder das hinterher rausschneiden.

Der neue Zoom:

Der neue Zoom is auch klasse, so werden ab sofort auch Bilder usw entsprechend skaliert und man erhält eine kleinere oder größere Version der Website, was gerade in zeiten von UMPCs mit kleinen Bildschirmdiagonalen extrem praktisch sein wird.

Die Erweiterungen:

Meine Erweiterungen wurden zum großteil problemlos aus dem Firefox2 übernommen und funktionieren tadellos, lediglich ein paar brauchten ein update und funktionieren nun ebenso problemlos :)
