"The Dark Knight" premiere is in just a few weeks and you gotta wonder, will Adam West, the very first Batman actor appear at the premiere of "The Dark Knight" in New York City?

On the day of the premiere, keep an eye out for this blog as I will be posting pics of celebrity turn outs at the premiere. I'm positive "The Dark Knight" premiere will be mobbed with celebrities all over the place in New York City. Heath Ledger had a lot of celeb friends.

Adam West's "Batman: The Movie" the very first original Batman film made in 1989 is coming out on BluRay. So you think he might just be at "The Dark Knight" premiere to help promote the BluRay too. If he's there I'm sure it'll be all over the news.

I'm getting stoked over the "Dark Knight" can't believe it's almost here already! I think it's gonna be the best film all year long, it will probably be even better than the new "Rambo". "The Dark Knight" is two weeks away!

IN JASON'S DEFENSE -- There were times when Batman: The Animated Series almost made me pee my pants. The writers never had compunctions about making the Dark Knight... well... dark. And that's what makes it the greatest super-hero cartoon of all time.

As a young teen, most fiction didn't faze me. But Batman: TAS was downright grim. The Joker, as voiced by Mark Hamill, was coldly psychotic, making him rival only Jack Nicholson as the scariest incarnation of the character (which might change once I see the late Heath Ledger's performance in the forthcoming The Dark Knight Returns). And Bruce Wayne was a shell of a man, almost a split-personality case unable to connect with other people.

In 1993, Mask of the Phantasm was supposed to wrap up the Warner Brothers cartoon's storyline. Originally intended to go straight to VHS, it was instead released theatrically. Batman survived, though, his popularity carrying him to the Batman and Robin cartoon and then on to The New Batman-Superman Adventures and eventually to Justice League Unlimited.

This movie does what all good superhero cartoons and comics should do: It uses an external villain as an incidental plot device to explore the hero's soul. This is no jolly Adam West Batman, prancing around in his Bat-boat with Bat-shark repellent. This is a confused, guilty Bruce Wayne, hiding under his cowl, hunted by the police, and self-defeated in the shadow of his parents' gravestone.

Mask of the Phantasm adds a new angle to the Bat's backstory. In addition to the death of his parents, the movie says that Bruce's transformation into a caped crusader is as much a result of his rejection by Andrea Beaumont, his fiancee, who disappeared after her father was caught up with the mafia. In a flashback, Bruce retreats within himself and dons his mask for the first time, a sight that terrifies Alfred.

Years later, Andrea returns to town and immediately recognizes Batman as Bruce. At the same time, a ghostly figure starts hunting down and executing local gangland patriarchs. Police think the killer, who wears a cape and mask, is Batman, and they nearly manage to capture Bruce. Later, we learn that the Phantasm -- who is never directly referred to be name except in the title -- also wants to kill the Joker, who was a one-time mafioso.

MotP keeps the 1920s pulp feel of Batman: TAS, with Bruce as The Detective and with grainy, noir backdrops in high relief. There are noir cityscapes,harsh angles, and a low-tech aesthetic. The climax is a three-way showdown between Batman, the Phantasm, and the Joker, set in the later's inky, dystopic World Fair hideout.

This is what Batman is all about: Heartbreak, unrelenting resolve, pain, a conflicted Bruce Wayne begging his parents' ghosts to let him be happy, and his demon-haunted understanding that he can't be.

Entre 1966 y 1968 protagonizó una serie que aunque a muchos nos pueda parecer infantil y casposa (sobre todo si la comparamos con lo que hemos visto de Burton y Nolan), realmente era muy fiel a los cómics que en esos momentos se estaban publicando. El personaje de aquella época protagonizaba aventuras muy coloridas y para todos los públicos. Y así se tenía que ver en su versión televisiva, ni más ni menos.

Yo siempre recuerdo una cosa. Algo que cuando hablo con alguien que conoce la serie siempre acabamos sacándolo a colación. Digamos que es la anécdota más conocida y que la gente siempre la ha recordado aún con el pasar de los años.

 Sin lugar a dudas había cosas que hacían reir en la serie. Las cejas pintadas en la máscara de Batman, los colores chillones que nos mostraban, las onomatopeyas que golpeaban incluso al espectador cuando las veía, etc... pero un tiburon mordiendo la pierna de Batman y él utilizando un spray repelente de tiburones me dejó marcado de por vida. Pasarán los años, pero eso siempre lo recordaré cuando me mencionen la serie en cuestión.

This weekend marks my 5-year college reunion at Wooster, but alas I am unable to attend. Between the summer chaos at work (I'm still pretty new there with only three months under my belt) and the start of Summer School I've got way too much stuff going on. I did look at the attendance roster and it looks like a few friends and swimming teammates will be in attendance. I might try to make it back for a brief visit during homecoming or for a swim meet.

The Adventures of Little Batman is a short fan-film shot by Joe Valenti and stars mostly 5 and 6 year old kids. It's a definite must-see for kids and parents alike. As you can see it draws primarily on the Adam West/Burt Ward Batman series of the 1960s. There are currently three videos. I think this is great. Recently the complete video was honored at the Sundays in the City Film Festival in Tribeca. My younger brother and I used to dress up as Batman and Superman respectively, but I'm not sure our Dad's video camera was quite as good as Valenti's. Plus there was the terrible acting too. I don't recall having a great memory for scripted lines when I was 5. These kids seem to pull it off very well. Let us know what you think. One person I was with didn't like it at all.  There will be people that don't.  I guessed what the MacGuffin was and I thought I'd have been pissed about it but it turned out to be perfect.  The fact is this one fits tonally with the others in the series.  The problem I think people will have with it will stem from the fact that the mythology behind the MacGuffin is familiar to us all.  A MacGuffin like the Sankara stones from Temple of Doom you just accept that these stones have power and are important and you go on the journey.  This time you come in with baggage because we're in territory we're all familiar with and both George and Steven have covered before.  Lot's of people see Jim Broadbent's line in the film, "We have reached the age when life stops giving us things and starts taking them away," as a reflection of our fond memories from childhood being replaced by this film.  I prefer to quote Shia LaBeouf's Mutt, "It's just a thing."  God knows I made up enough stories about Indiana Jones when I was a kid.  I starred in my own Indiana Jones adventures and those are still with me.  This is just one more story to add to our own personal Indiana Jones canon.  It was a good time, I didn't want it to be over, I didn't want to say goodbye to Indy.

If you love the character as much as I do, it shouldn't be hard to allow yourself to live in that child like wonder you had when seeing the first films.  Sure there's the occasional faulty bit of dialog or CGI monkey that kills a little piece of you but overall this one has everything that made you fall in love with Henry Jones Jr. to begin with.  And now my attempt to be quoted in the ads... Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a thrilling adventure I didn't want to end.

For my first post I have delved into my archives. This post is from March 17, 2007:

Michael: So the other day, I was seized by a great ennui. I decided to watch the entire season of the CBS show Jericho (well at least the season so far).

Me: You said that last part parenthetically?

Michael: Um...sure why not? So anyway, I'm watching it, it's ok, but obviously it's a part of this phenomenon of shows with a singular plots that rely on ensemble casts, character development and suspense, i.e. Lost, Prison Break. However, as I am watching this show. I realize that CBS has CBS-ized this genre to fit their network.

Me: CBS-ized?

Michael: Yeah, the show is populated by old, unattractive people, undersexed teenagers, middle-age red-staters, and if there is an anti-hero, he has been severely attenuated and overshadowed by a more traditional hero type. And when I say the teenagers are undersexed, I mean they are like Leave it to Beaver undersexed not 7th Heaven undersexed, along with the twenty and thirty-somethings. Where is the provocative, glossy sexuality of ABC? Where are the prurient teenagers of Fox and the CW? Where is the trenchant, concisive writing of NBC? The evocative, suspenseful writing of ABC? I mean really, I can't live vicariously through these people!

Me: I see.

Michael: Anyway, the show is about a post-nuclear US, and it takes place in a small town in Kansas. It's good in some areas, in other areas it's like some weird amalgam of Touched by An Angel and Men in Trees.

Me: [shudder] Men in Trees.

Michael: I'm sorry, I know how much Men in Trees perturbs you.

Me: I just don't understand? How can that man be attracted to Ellen's girlfriend? [shakes head]

Michael: Well as arcane as that comment was...I guess I would say Jericho is for the most satisfactory-for CBS. Really, CBS is just CSI (which I hate and that was parenthetical)...

Me: Oh thanks, that makes things so much easier.

Michael: ...with filler. Meanwhile Jericho has Skeet Ulrich in it.

Me: [shudder] The guy whose career is based off his passing resemblance to Johnny Depp.

Michael: Yeah that's him. Meanwhile...

Me: Really that's a horrible transition. I can just put in transitions later.

Michael: Oh, like the five minutes later crap.

Me: Fuck you too.

Michael: I don't like saying "meanwhile," just like I don't saying "prick," but just like "prick" emphasizes how disgusted I am with a person "meanwhile" emphasizes my desperation for a transition. And Fran Drescher on The Nanny said it a lot.

Me: Let's go over my dislikes again because obviously you have forgotten: Men in Trees, Fran Drescher, Skeet Ulrich, Anne Heche, Raoul Castro, Trey Parker, Delta Burke, Adam West after the 1970s, Casey Affleck and that Vietnamese kid Angelina Jolie just adopted.

Michael: My God, I don't know where to start. How can you hate Raoul Castro and not Fidel? How can you hate Delta Burke and not the whole cast of Designing Women? How can you hate Casey Affleck and not his brother? How can you hate the Vietnamese kid and not the Cambodian one? How can you hate Fran... well Adam West...never mind.

Me: Well Michael, it's about nuances and layers of meaning. It's why I like John Locke on Lost more than Jack Shepherd.

Michael: This is getting to abstruse.

Me: How did you develop this criticism of CBS?

Michael: I guess I had a conversation with myself.

Me: Like right now?

Michael: No I mean earlier yesterday.

Me: ...but...

Michael: ?

So I have been looking all over for this one - the totally bad ass 1966 Barris Futura Batmobile as driven by Mayor West himself !

No one in my Actual life seems to understand how excited I am over this, so I figured maybe someone in my VIRTUAL life would.

There is a car wash near my office that actually owns a replica of the Batmobile. I may try to trade him one of these for the chance to have my photo taken in the drivers seat.  THAT will make a bad ass post . . .
