Gossip Girl c'est une série tv inspirée elle-même d'une série de livres à succès portant le même nom. L'histoire se déroule dans le quartier chic d'Upper East Side à Manhattan et relate la vie de jeunes issus de ce quartier. Le scénario est à peu près le même par rapport aux autres séries de ce genre que ce soit The OC ou One Tree Hill. Deux filles Blair et Serena, meilleures amies, qui se battent pour l'amour de Nate supposé être le plus beau mec du lycée :-D Et autour d'eux gravitent les autres personnages: les autres prétendants des 2 jeunes filles, les parents très friqués qui influencent la vie de leurs enfants jusqu'à dicter avec qui ils doivent sortir. Ajouté à cela les soirées, l'alcool, la drogue, les brunchs dominicaux, les robes et accessoires en veux-tu en-voilà. Tout ce que vivent ces jeunes sont dans l'excès ...

Blair

Blair a un caractère bien trempé mais manque de confiance en elle; ce qui la rend plus vulnérable. Du coup, elle doit souvent user de ruses et de manipulations pour pouvoir s'en sortir. Serena quand à elle bénéficie du fait qu'elle a beaucoup plus de joie de vivre et aime s'amuser; ainsi, elle n'a pas de difficultés à se faire des amis et sait s'attirer les faveurs des garçons. Mais apparemment, elle cache un mystère qu'au tout début de la série on ne sait pas encore. L'originalité de cette série demeure dans le fait qu'il y a un personnage mystère qui conte la vie de ses jeunes en voix-off et par la même occasion étale tous les potins concernant les personnages sur son blog appelé Gossip Girl.

Serena

Mon avis: Pour le moment, le scénario me captive. Mais il y a ce côté "sombre" du tournage à New York qui me gêne. On dirait qu'il ne fait jamais "assez beau" même s'il y a du soleil. Exactement comme mon aversion pour CSI New York qui est glauque par rapport aux tournages à Vegas ou Miami. Et les personnages ne sont pas aussi attachants que ceux de OTH. Mais vous allez me dire que je n'en suis qu'à l'épisode 2 :-P Ceci dit, si l'on veut voir du luxe à gogo et les tendances de mode: il faut le voir :mrgreen: Tout autant que l'on peut être gêné par autant d'étalages de luxe qu'on peut facilement croire que c'est irréel. Avoir 16 ans et se faire conduire par une limousine pour aller à une soirée? Mouais sûrement pas dans mon monde ... Faut dire aussi que c'est vraiment une histoire d'ados donc je peux tout à fait comprendre que ça puisse faire rêver des ados; c'est peut-être moi qui suis devenue blasée avec l'âge :lol: Bref, je continue à regarder pour le moment et on verra dans quelques semaines. Je me suis aussi rendue compte que depuis que je suis en France, je n'ai pas beaucoup voyagé. Par exemple, je n'ai encore jamais vu aucuns des bords de mer français. Bon Aubenas ce n'est pas la Côte d'Azur mais ça peut toujours faire du bien de changer d'air un peu.

Petit tour météo: beau temps dans la vallée du Rhône, au moins 21° jusqu'à dimanche, cool! Comme ça il y aura peut-être moyen de se mettre en terrasse pour profiter du soleil. J'espère juste que ce ne soit pas une ville morte et qu'il y aura quand même moyen d'y faire des trucs sympathiques. Apparemment, on va camper aussi, chose que je n'ai encore jamais faite avant alors je vais expérimenter ça. L'Ardèche est aussi paraît-il magnifique au Printemps par ses vallées, la Clairette (dont je vais essayer de ne pas en abuser hihi), les confitures et le fromage.

Cette fois-ci, j'ai été attirée par la distribution des acteurs. J'avoue que je choisis un film principalement pour les acteurs et les producteurs, très rarement je me fie aux critiques presses. Ce qui fait qu'assez souvent je me mets à aimer des films que la plupart des cinéphiles (ou pas) n'aiment pas, et inversement. Par exemple, je ne comprends pas l'engouement des gens par rapport aux films produits par Mel Gibson. Personnellement, je n'ai pas accroché ni à La Passion du Christ ni à Apocalypto. Peut-être aussi parce que je trouve que dans les films "pseudo-historiques", la réalité est souvent détournée au profit du scénario. Mais il m'arrive aussi de regarder des films avec des acteurs que j'aime et d'être déçue. Il en est ainsi de la prestation de Jessica Alba dernièrement dans The Eye: adaptation complètement ratée et ne vaut pas le film asiatique original.

Mais je m'égare ... Revenons à donc à ce film qui m'a plus. Il s'agit de 27 Dresses avec Katherine Heigl et James Marsden. Là c'est clair, j'ai craqué essentiellement pour les acteurs. Car comment ne pas fondre devant ma fragile Lizzie de Grey's Anatomy?

Ou bien James Marsden qui joue le Cyclope dans la série des X-men et qui change ici complètement de registre. Le synopsis:

Jane est si l'on peut dire "une spécialiste des mariages": organisatrice et accessoirement elle endosse le rôle de fille d'honneur aussi. Elle jongle ainsi de mariage en mariage, en appréciant ces moments parce que d'après elle "cela permet de se sentir moins seule" et de se mettre ainsi - malgré elle - dans le fait où elle voit défiler le bonheur des autres sans (devoir) penser au sien.

Mais c'est sans compter les remarques souvent ironiques mais justifiées que lui lancent Kevin (J. Marsden) à propos de sa personnalité et de la conception même du mariage qui vont petit à petit l'entraîner petit à petit à remettre en question ses habitudes. Et surtout quand elle se retrouve à devoir organiser elle-même le mariage de sa sœur avec l'homme dont elle est secrètement amoureuse depuis longtemps. Il y a une limite à toute chose ...

La fin de l'histoire est prédictible comme tous les films de ce genre; de même que cette tendance Hollywoodienne à vouloir toujours véhiculer des messages moralisateurs dans les films peut gêner. Mais la belle performance de Katherine Heigl vaut le détour de même que l'esprit même du film. En tout cas, si vous êtes comme moi rebuté par l'idée même du mariage: "le mariage est juste une cérémonie et ça n'est rien d'autre; accessoirement il fait acheter des tas d'objets complètement inutiles afin de se faire convaincre qu'on est des mariés comblés" :mrgreen: Et je pense à ça parce qu'il y a de plus en plus de gens en ce moment dans mon entourage qui vont se marier ou qui vont avoir des bébés; et ça me stresse. Je me joins à ce qu'elle dit dans le film:

"Un jour viendra où ce sera mon tour, où tous ces gens seront là pour moi ..."

Allez le voir si le cœur vous en dit, il sortira le 23 avril au cinéma ;-)

Pygmy bluetongue lizards. We have recently discovered that the world's original record of pygmy blue tongue lizards (now a nationally endangered species) was at Gawler in the early 1860s by Dr Richard Schomburgk. Schomburgk who lived at Buchsfelde at the time and ran a museum of natural history on behalf of the Gawler Institute, later become the most famous director of Adelaide’s Botanic Garden. The 6 specimen lizards were lodged in a German museum.

Pymgy blue tongues are small (max length 20 cms), live in spider holes made by trapdoor or wolf spiders and are not easily located. Thought to be extinct but rediscovered in the 1990s in small populations totaling a few hundred in relatively undisturbed grasslands/grassy woodlands areas from Auburn to Terowie. Apparently none of the dozen or so farmers on whose properties they have been located were aware of their presence. Anyone with local information would be very welcome.

Container Deposit Lift

The announcement by the State government of a shift to 10 cents for beverage container deposits is great news for the environment. The figure of 5 cents was set over 30 years ago. With inflation that would be 30 or 40 cents now. The 10 cent figure will raise the recovery rates for cans, bottles and plastic containers which have been dropping. It will also provide more employment in places like Scouts recycling centres and more money for people looking for some extra survival or pocket money. Win all round.

Walking/cycling around Gawler

Plans for development of expanded and upgraded walking and cycling tracks along the river corridors in Gawler are gradually taking shape. With the support promised by the Federal Labor Party as part of the 2007 election we have the opportunity to create a real asset for recreation in Gawler as well as improve the biodiversity and amenity of the river corridors. Plans for Gawler will complement work by Light Council along the North Para in Hewett and also fit in with current investigations of access tracks along the Gawler River to the coast and along the South Para.

Heritage

Sad to see recent demolitions of stone buildings on Redbanks Road and Gawler Terrace. Other examples of neglected historic buildings also raise concerns about the intentions of the respective owners. The State Government really needs to look at better protection for these never to be replaced older buildings. Caring owners are also important.

NRM northern coast and plains

Good to see the local Natural Resources Management Board is increasing its focus on the Adelaide plains and coast north of the Gawler River. The protection and rebuilding of natural assets especially the coastal vegetation, roadside native vegetation and remnant vegetation on farms, cemeteries and the like is vital for maintaining many threatened species of plants and animals. Andy Day is the NRM project officer for the area, based in Gawler. Also heard a rumour that the Gawler NRM office may be expanded down the track to include a Natural Resource display/information/meeting area.

Bref, tout ça pour dire qu'après avoir visionné cette vidéo, j'ai constaté que l'accent canadien m'a toujours à la fois amusée et intriguée. Amusée car ils ont une certaine façon de prononcer les mots qui ne sont pas habituels et surtout pas facile à comprendre; et intriguée car je me suis toujours demandé de quelle phonétique cela pouvait provenir: mélange franco-anglais ou autre? Vous en pensez quoi? Mes amies blogueuses Jogany et Lilia ont peut-être des réactions à chaud là-dessus? ;-)

Il y a eu une version I et je viens de me rendre compte que ça fait un moment que je n'ai pas fait une petite topo des films que j'ai vu dernièrement et que j'ai apprécié. Pour certains films beaucoup beaucoup de retard depuis leur sortie, mais l'attente a au moins valu le plaisir de pouvoir les regarder plus tranquillement.

La vie des autres (Das Leben der Anderen) de Florian Henkel: mon film coup de coeur de 2007 si je puis dire. L'avoir regardé a été un délice, un succulent bonbon aurait eu le même effet. Comment vous le décrire sans dévoiler le secret du film à ceux qui ne l'ont pas encore vu? Tout ce que je puis dire c'est que c'est un film à la fois politique, psychologique et dramatique*. L'histoire commence au milieu des années 80, au moment où la Stasi (agence de renseignement est-allemande) a exercé sa plus grande traque des opposants au régime. Un couple d'acteurs du théâtre est au coeur de l'histoire - soupçonné d'agir contre le régime socialiste - et l'agent de la Stasi qui est chargé de les surveiller nuit et jour. Impassible et arrogant, l'agent HGW X/7 n'hésite pas à utiliser les pires méthodes pour amener les supposés coupables qui se trouvent à sa rencontre à avouer leur crime. Mais l'ambiguité du comportement humain va apporter beaucoup d'inattendus à cette histoire que l'on croit connaitre d'avance le déroulement; difficile pour moi de retenir une larme vers la fin. Techniquement les plans sont bien cadrés et la B.O. ajoute de l'intensité au film. Connaissant très peu les films allemands à part les anciens Das Boot ou Inspecteur Derrick, j'ai été agréablement surpris. Bref, à voir absolument!!!

West Beyrouth de Ziad Doueiri raconte l'histoire de 3 jeunes libanais dans le Liban en pleine guerre en 1975. C'est comme La Boum mais en version libanaise et avec la guerre en surplus. Film politique sans pour autant prendre partie pour l'un ou l'autre des 2 factions en opposition (musulmans contre chrétiens), moins mielleux que Caramel, j'ai trouvé ce film instructif et attachant. Un autre film dans le même genre qui semble avoir de bonnes promesses, Sous les bombes de Philippe Aractingi dont une bonne partie a été apparement réalisée sur le terrain au moment même des récents combats et bombardements.

Chambre 1408 de Mikael Hafstrom: étiqueté film d'horreur mais pas seulement à mon avis. Adaptation du livre de Stephen King portant le même titre, ce film est un concentré de suspens, d'intrigues psychologiques et d'une remise en question personnelle des personnages dont celui de John Cusack qui en est le principal acteur. Comme dans tous les livres de Stephen King d'ailleurs dont je suis fana, y a toujours une leçon de vie qui sort du récit. Au spectateur de savoir laquelle. Un peu dans le style de Mulholland Drive, il y a certaines intrigues du film qui ne seront jamais totalement résolues ou bien chacun peut en faire son interprétation. A voir aussi prochainement The mist.

And last but not least, Boulevard de la mort. Que dire? C'est du pur Tarantino: images chocs, sang, action, réalisation excellente. Il y a eu Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction ou Reservoir Dogs, poignants! Cette fois-ci, il s'est lancé dans la série Grindhouse. La scène du lap dance est à ne pas rater bien sûr ou bien la démente course poursuite ;-) Je n'ai pas encore vue Planet Terror réalisée par Rodriguez mais j'y compte bien, ne serait-ce que pour comparer les deux.

Express G? I could hardly wrap my brain around the prospect. I mean seriously–the train is known at the Brooklyn-Queens Crosstown Local. My cursory research has found little to support that this express G was anything more than a figment of my imagination.

Love is in the air on the shuttle buses, "I saw you on the g train shuttle bus on sunday the 13th, you sat in the front. You were wearing a white jacket, a pair of cool high boots and you had the face of an angel. Every now and then I would take a glimpse at you but would look away quickly in fear of making you feel uncomfortable. Ce mignon petit bonhomme, c'est le fils de Hailey et Nathan Scott dans la nouvelle saison de One Tree Hill. J'aime l'histoire de ces jeunes qui, contrairement à ce que l'on pourrait croire à savoir série américaine pour ados, aborde des thèmes variés et critiques sur la société et sur les relations humaines en général. Les réalisateurs ayant exploité la technique du fast forward, ils se retrouvent donc maintenant 4 ans après leur dernière année de lycée avec moults changements et bouleversements dans leurs vies respectives. Les remises en question sont nombreuses: que faire quand on a perdu ses rêves en chemin? l'amour peut-il surmonter le poids de la distance et du temps qui passe? l'angoisse de la page blanche pourquoi? (humm, ça me parle en particulier) comment faire face maintenant aux responsabilités d'adultes? comment surmonter les désillusions?

During this year, our visibility increased greatly, in media, with analysts, with organizations such as FSA (now GSA), and through this blog.  We recorded over 5,000 blog hits between the end of August and now (prior to that, our blogging system didn't keep statistics).  Our most popular postings were:

• Best Practices for Fabless Semiconductor Companies (parts I and II) - this was published in October, and has become our number one article.
• Notes on Enterprise Software Architecture (all parts) - second most popular, and provides a reference point for many of the important ideas in our software
• Where's the Content?  Reviewing Content Collaboration Software - third most popular.  This was a major read during early fall, as many people were interested in the choices we were making on software such as blogs and wiki's.

A few observations about the trends during the year:  while the "enterprise 2.0" term was very hot during the first half, I haven't heard it mentioned as much recently.  Instead, we see an upcoming term being "collaborative decision environment".

During 2008, we will be continuing to publish, and are expecting to get even more hits, because the blog will be tied to our new corporate web site.

Two Fridays ago, I attended a Food and Drug Administration briefing on the Reagan-Udall Foundation following the much-awaited release of the names of the Foundation’s board members earlier that day. The briefing was led by Dr. Janet Woodcock, FDA Deputy Commissioner and Chief Medical Officer, and participants at the briefing included representatives from patient and consumer advocacy groups.

The Reagan-Udall Foundation was created under Title VI of the recently enacted Food and Drug Administration Amendments Act of 2007, which was signed into law by President Bush on September 27. It's the new private and independent nonprofit organization created to advance the FDA’s mission to speed up the development of new drug, food, and cosmetic products, and to make sure they’re as safe as possible. The creation of the foundation is part of FDA’s efforts to revamp how agency-regulated products are developed, manufactured, and evaluated for safety and effectiveness, as well as to help private and public stakeholders collaborate on the priorities identified in FDA’s Critical Path reports. The board is made up of 14 members, including four from industry, three from academic research, two from patient or consumer advocacy groups, and four at-large representatives. NCL and other consumer groups strongly supported the decision to include representation of patient or consumer advocacy groups on the board, and we voiced our concern during the nomination process that those nominated may not be conflict-free (i.e., have no financial conflicts of interest or ties to industry) or truly represent the public’s interest in medical research. Participants at the briefing additionally expressed concern over what projects the Foundation would focus on, how those projects would be selected, what would be produced from the projects, and whether the Foundation would be able to dedicate time towards projects on rare diseases that do not typically receive as much attention or funding.

Master Data Management (MDM) is a discipline for providing consistent content of your key reference data across different parts of your organization.  Examples include:

• Standard customer data
• Standard part data
• Standard pricing data

MDM has emerged in the last several years as a separate enterprise software architecture category as the requirement for consistently defined and maintained enterprise data has become more apparent. 

With the proliferation of different enterprise software systems over the last decade, each with separate data models, yet with data requirements that often overlap, a single system of record for managing an organization's critical business data has become a practical necessity.  In a study conducted at Merrill Lynch in 2002, the company found six different systems were gathering customer account information, with different addresses and content in each, effectively creating six separate definitions of fundamental account data, and thereby fostering confusion and errors.

Through effective MDM, organizations can eliminate errors, become more efficient in their business activities, and accelerate critical processes such as new product introductions, trade settlement, service provisioning, cross-sell/up-sell, and customer service.  Fundamental business operations such as supply chain planning or inventory costing and valuation, and IT strategies like SOA and BPM, all depend upon the correctness of the data on which they operate.

Analysts have been tracking the master data management industry for several years.  Ray Wang of Forester recently reported:

Data integration, data governance, and training are all major costs, whether companies use in-house or outsourced resources. The study found that, on average, service costs represent almost three times the technology licensing fees. That's one reason companies are starting with less resource-intensive, registry-style MDM approaches, which have comparatively lower implementation costs.

Master data management can go beyond data integration. MDM generally has a data governance component. Data governance means having to define clear data owners and users, having clear business policies regarding what is good master data and what is not. Master Data Management is also about providing continuous reports and alerts to master data owners and the stewards regarding the health of the master data.

Recent legislation, such as Sarbanes-Oxley in the United States and new international accounting and environmental standards, has driven many enterprises to evaluate their master data management system for the first time. MDM software empowers business users with a best-practice business management process to centralize and directly manage the structure of corporate data.

Technology for Master Data Management

An MDM system is more than a static data warehouse, it is designed for effective updating of information, and for sending updated information to business users and downstream systems.  In addition, an MDM component is the basis for supporting effective information-driven decision support.  Our Information Architecture for Decision Support starts with this layer (called Content Management in those slides).

In the MDM layer, when an update arrives, business logic is run that propagates and applies changes.

This business logic is typically expressed in a scripting language so that it can be easily changed without recompiling the systems.  In Serus' case, we use the Python scripting language.  The overall architecture is shown below:

Applications of Master Data Management in Semiconductor Operations

Semiconductor manufacturers often lack a global semi-conductor master data update capability, employ multiple, out-of-sync master data management systems, suffer from disjointed manufacturing and inventory management systems and rely on flakey data consolidation systems, spreadsheet systems, report consolidation systems, instead of well defined transaction processing. This results in a lack of operations visibility, operations mistakes, lack of inventory accountability, inaccurate inventory costing and valuation results often based on multiple "shadow" systems lacking traceability, accountability, root cause analysis, and missing key transactional information. 

Dealing with external partners presents additional challenges, including lack of access and ability to process high volume detailed transaction data, systematic business rule enforcement and monitoring, consistent transaction formats, complete lack of automated synchronization and reconciliation, systematically managing exception data, error prone and ad-hoc manual data entry of manufacturing specification into supplier MES systems, no inventory transaction validation against master data specifications, and lack of ability to monitor key bottle-neck processes with real-time feedback.

As engineering groups come out with new products and versions, without a single, fully integrated system to track all manufacturing-related data, it's difficult for them to ensure the proper components they need are in the pipeline. The more manufacturers have to fall back on e-mail, faxes and EDI transactions to communicate requirements, the more likely they are to have difficulty getting accurate information to the right people at the right time

We apply MDM to the following content:

• Manufacturing specification information
• Part chain information
• WIP transaction reporting.
