Since it was dedicated in 1886, the Statue of Liberty has stood as a beacon for Americans. Here are some little known facts about this lady.

1. The statue's real name is "Liberty Enlightening the World."

2. Construction of the statue began in France in 1875.

3. Lady Liberty was sculpted by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi; Alexandre Gustave Eiffel was the structural engineer.

4. The statue was completed in Paris in June 1884, given to the American people on July 4, 1884, and reassembled and dedicated in the United States on October 28, 1886.

# The model for the face of the statue is reputed to be the sculptor's mother, Charlotte Bartholdi.

# A quarter-scale bronze replica of Lady Liberty was erected in Paris in 1889 as a gift from Americans living in the city. The statue stands about 35 feet high and is located on a small island in the River Seine, about a mile south of the Eiffel Tower.

# There are 25 windows and 7 spikes in Lady Liberty's crown. The spikes are said to symbolize the seven seas.

# The inscription on the statue's tablet reads: July 4, 1776 (in Roman numerals).

# More than four million people visit the Statue of Liberty each year.

# Symbolizing freedom and the opportunity for a better life, the Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants as they sailed through New York Harbor on their way to nearby Ellis Island.

# Lady Liberty is 152 feet 2 inches tall from base to torch and 305 feet 1 inch tall from the ground to the tip of her torch.

# The statue's hand is 16 feet 5 inches long and her index finger is 8 feet long. Her fingernails are 13 inches long by 10 inches wide and weigh approximately 3.5 pounds each.

# Lady Liberty's eyes are each 2 feet 6 inches across, she has a 35-foot waistline, and she weighs about 450,000 pounds (225 tons).

# Lady Liberty's sandals are 25 feet long, making her shoe size 879.

# There are 192 steps from the ground to the top of the pedestal and 354 steps from the pedestal to the crown.

# The statue functioned as an actual lighthouse from 1886 to 1902. There was an electric plant on the island to generate power for the light, which could be seen 24 miles away.

# The Statue of Liberty underwent a multimillion dollar renovation in the mid-1980s before being rededicated on July 4, 1986. During the renovation, Lady Liberty received a new torch because the old one was corroded beyond repair.

# The Statue of Liberty's original torch is now on display at the monument's museum.

# Until September 11, 2001, the Statue of Liberty was open to the public and visitors were able to climb the winding staircase inside the statue to the top of her crown for a spectacular view of New York Harbor.

# Although the pedestal and the museum are once again open to the public, the interior of the Statue remains closed. Legislation has been proposed to reopen the inside of the statue to the public, but until then visitors can view the interior framework through the pedestal's glass ceiling.

Dinosaurs were a group of land animals that lived from about 230 million years ago until about 60 mi

Dinosaurs were a group of land animals that lived from about 230 million years ago until about 60 million years ago. This spans the era of the Earth's history known as the Mesozoic era, which includes, from most ancient to most recent, the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Dinosaurs grew in population and diversity during their time on Earth before becoming extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period.

No one knows exactly how many types of dinosaurs inhabited the planet. There are currently about 700 named species, but this probably represents a fraction of the dinosaurs that ever existed.

Dinosaurs ranged in size from immense to tiny, and they came in a range of shapes. Today's dinosaur classifications come from these differences in shape and size. Carnivorous dinosaurs were all theropods, bipedal animals with three-toed feet. Carnosaurs were a small, agile type of theropod. One of the most widely-known carnosaurs was Velociraptor, which is considerably smaller than depicted in the "Jurassic Park" films. Sauropods, on the other hand, were enormous, four-legged herbivores like Brachiosaurus, Apatosaurus and Diplodocus. Dinosaurs with armored bodies and spiny tails were ankylosaurs. Ceratopians -- like Triceratops -- had frills and horns on their heads. But not every reptile that lived during the Mesozoic era was a dinosaur. In fact, a lot of extinct animals that people think of as dinosaurs aren't classified as dinosaurs. This is because they don't share one or more of dinosaurs' basic traits:

* Dinosaurs were animals with four limbs, although not all walked on all four legs.
* Although they may have ventured into the water, they were terrestrial, or land-dwelling, animals.
* Their muscles and bones had several specific features. For example, all dinosaurs had cheek muscles that extended from their jaws to the tops of their skulls.
* Their hip girdles comprised three bones -- the ilium, ischium and pubis. These bones fit together in one of two configurations: ornithischian (bird-hipped) or saurischian (lizard-hipped).
* They had an upright gait. Dinosaurs held their bodies over their legs like rhinoceroses do rather than using the sprawling gait that crocodiles do.
These traits keep some well-known prehistoric animals from being considered dinosaurs:

* Plesiosaurs were aquatic creatures with long bodies and flipper-like fins.
* Another aquatic reptile group, ichthyosaurs, had a more dolphin-like body structure.
* Pterosaurs, like Pteranodon and the Pterodactyl subgroup, were flying reptiles.
* Synapsids had an opening behind their eye socket that also occurs in mammals. One of the most well-known synapsids is Dimetrodon, a lizard-like animal with a large sail on its back.

So because of their bone structure, habitat or other traits, these animals weren't technically dinosaurs. But they did leave behind same evidence that dinosaurs did fossils.

The World of Dinosaurs
The earliest dinosaurs lived in a world that looked very different from the Earth we know today. Rather than being separated by expansions of ocean, the continents were packed together in a mass known as Pangea.

Dinosaurs lived for about 170 million years, and during that time, the continents gradually spread to form the shapes we recognize today. Dinosaurs continued to live on every continent -- there are even fossils buried under the ice in Antarctica.

Dinosaur Extinction
Dinosaurs became extinct at the K-T boundary -- the dividing line between the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods. The end of the Cretaceous marks the end of the dinosaurs, while the beginning of the Tertiary marks the rise of mammal life on Earth.

Asteroid
One compelling theory about the extinction of the dinosaurs is a massive asteroid impact.Dinosaurs aren't the only things that died out at the K-T boundary. About 50 percent of the species on Earth became extinct. This included many other large reptiles, like pterosaurs and plesiosarus, as well as lots of plant species and marine animals. Other life forms, such as ferns, flourished by taking advantage of the sudden abundance of natural resources.

Scientists have proposed a number of theories about exactly what happened at the K-T boundary. There's not much physical evidence for some of them. For example, one theory is that dinosaurs were allergic to flower pollen -- flowering plants and bees evolved together during the late Cretaceous period. However, flowering plants existed for millions of years before the dinosaurs died out. Another theory is that mammals, which began to proliferate at the end of the Cretaceous period, ate dinosaurs' eggs. But considering the number of whole fossil egg specimens, this seems somewhat unlikely. Then there's the Alvarez hypothesis. In 1980, Luis and Walter Alvarez proposed that comets or asteroids had hit the Earth, causing massive shock waves, debris clouds and other devastation. There's a lot of evidence to support this hypothesis. One is a layer of a mineral called iridium, which exists in many locations on the planet at depths equated with the end of the Cretaceous period. Iridium is more common in space debris than on Earth, so the huge impact of an object from space could have caused this effect.

Perhaps the biggest support for this hypothesis is the Chicxulub crater. This is a massive asteroid crater off the coast of the Yucatan peninsula. Based on measurements of sediments and analysis of the surrounding rock, scientists estimate that the asteroid that caused the crater was between 145 and 180 kilometers in diameter. This would have caused exactly the kind of devastation described in the Alvarez hypothesis. A team of three researchers even believes to have discovered the identity of the asteroid itself. Using mathematical models, the group narrowed the field to the Baptistina cluster, a group of asteroids created by a large impact beyond the orbit of Mars.
According to the Alvarez theory, the extinction of the dinosaurs was extrinsic -- it came from outside of the Earth -- and catastrophic. However, other theories suggest that the mass extinction was intrinsic and gradual. One idea is that volcanoes in what is now India experienced massive eruptions just before the end of the Cretaceous. These eruptions filled the air with carbon dioxide and sulfur, changing the climate and damaging plant and animal life.

The changing face of the planet may have also played a role. As the continents moved, ocean currents would have changed the weather patterns in different parts of the world. Various forms of life may have been unable to survive these changes.

The best explanation for what happened to the dinosaurs may be a combination of intrinsic and extrinsic theories -- an asteroid impact combined with geological changes and volcanic eruptions. There are also indications that dinosaurs were becoming less diverse before the end of the Cretaceous period. But regardless of the cause, not everything on Earth died at the K-T boundary. Frogs, mollusks and crocodilians survived, and so did birds.

Cloning the Dinasaurs DNA

In the 1993 movie "Jurassic Park" wasn't the first film to show dinosaurs in the modern world. But it did a good job of bringing the idea of cloning dinosaurs into popular culture. It portrayed dinosaur cloning in a way that made sense to a lot of people, and it was a blockbuster, making more than $900 million worldwide."Jurassic Park" built on the idea of extracting DNA from the bellies of mosquitoes preserved in amber. While this might seem possible at first glance, it's highly unlikely that scientists could find usable dinosaur DNA in mosquito fossils. Scientists would need a very specific specimen -- a female mosquito that had consumed lots of dinosaur blood immediately before landing in tree resin. Since fossilization in amber is a relatively rare event, the chances of this happening are pretty small.

The lack of possible specimens isn't the only problem. Most insect fossils found in amber are also too young to contain dinosaur blood -- dinosaurs were extinct by the time the insects became trapped. Many insects decay from the inside out after they're trapped, leaving nothing inside for scientists to try to extract. Finally, the sample would have to be very dry, since DNA can break down quickly in the presence of water.

But if researchers did find a perfectly preserved mosquito with a body full of dinosaur blood, retrieving its DNA would still be difficult. The blood with the dinosaur DNA would be surrounded by the body of an insect, which has its own DNA. There could also be DNA from other cells trapped in the amber, which could contaminate the sample. Then, of course, there's the DNA in the laboratory itself -- and in the body of the scientist doing the extraction.

                                                                DNA in Amber
[The idea of extracting DNA from amber isn't confined to the movies. The first reported success in the real world came in 1992, when scientists reported finding DNA from an extinct bee encased in Dominican amber. Other reports of successful extraction followed. However, there's some controversy surrounding these discoveries. In some cases, other research has disproved the original findings. In others, researchers simply can't replicate the original DNA extraction.]

The fictional scientists in "Jurassic Park" try to get around these difficulties by combining dinosaur DNA with frog DNA. But this would be like trying to assemble a jigsaw puzzle using billions of pieces that come from two different puzzles. Plus, frogs might not be the best candidates for providing replacement DNA. Today, one of the most prevalent theories about the fate of the dinosaurs is that some evolved into birds, not frogs.

On top of all that, the most common form of cloning used on animals today involves nuclear transfer. Scientists put the nucleus of one cell into a second cell of the same species after destroying the second cell's nucleus. There are no dinosaur cells or dinosaur eggs that could host new set of DNA. Researchers would have to find a different way to let the DNA grow into a living dinosaur.

So the "Jurassic Park" method is out -- but are there other ways to bring dinosaurs to life?

Besides using DNA from insects trapped in amber, there are several theories about how scientists might clone dinosaurs. One involves finding DNA specimens in fossilized bones instead of in the bodies of insects. The problem with this idea is that DNA is a complex, delicate structure. The process of fossilization involves replacing the organic tissue in an animal's bones with minerals. This effectively destroys the cells that may contain DNA.
A frozen mammoth discovered in the permafrost zone in Siberia is displayed at Global House March 18, 2005 in Nagakute, Japan.

However, one team of paleontologists has discovered what appears to be soft tissue in the bones of a Tyrannosaurus rex. It was a discovery no one could have predicted -- until that point, scientists thought all soft tissue was destroyed in the fossil process. However, the research team has not yet isolated any DNA from the soft-tissue samples. While the discovery doesn't necessarily guarantee that researchers will ever find intact DNA in fossils, it makes the idea more likely than it was just a few years ago.

Another appealing idea is that researchers could sequence the DNA of dinosaurs and recreate the necessary DNA strands. At this point, this isn't possible. The sequencing of the human genome, for example, took 13 years to complete, and the final product wasn't something researchers could use to clone people. Reconstructing complete strands of dinosaur DNA would require technology far beyond what exists today.

That leaves what may be the next best thing to cloning dinosaurs -- cloning extinct mammals, like mammoths. Mammoth fossils are significantly younger than dinosaur fossils. They're only about 30,000 years old. This difference in age gives the DNA much less time to decompose. But a mammoth cloning project would still require a perfectly preserved specimen. The mammoth's tissue couldn't have gone through cycles of freezing and thawing or been preserved at extremely low temperatures that could damage the DNA. Yet, the idea of piecing together this evidence to get an idea of mammoth genes isn't completely unreasonable. In 2005, one research team reported that it had sequenced part of the mammoth genome.

A second option for bringing mammals to life could be to use fossilized sperm to inseminate the eggs of a related mammal. The resulting animal would be a hybrid, with only half its genetic code from its male mammoth parent. A project to do exactly that was proposed by a Japanese research team in 2006.
These advances in paleontology and genetic technology have made the idea of cloning dinosaurs just a little more probable sometime in the far future. But it's still not at all likely, especially not in our lifetimes.

scientific Proof of Ramayana

The following information reported by NASA is a crucial aspect for an insight into the mysterious legend called Ramayana, which was supposed to have taken place in tretha yuga (more than 1,700,000 years ago).

Space images taken by NASA reveal a mysterious ancient bridge in the Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka. The recently discovered bridge currently named as Adam´s Bridge is made of chain of shoals, c.18 mi (30 km) long.

The bridge´s unique curvature and composition by age reveals that it is man made. The legends as well as Archaeological studies reveal that the first signs of human inhabitants in Sri Lanka date back to the a primitive age, about 1,750,000 years ago and the bridge´s age is also almost equivalent.

This information is a crucial aspect for an insight into the mysterious legend called Ramayana, which was supposed to have taken place in tredha yuga (more than 1,700,000 years ago).In this epic, there is a mentioning about a bridge, which was built between Rameshwaram (India) and Srilankan coast under the supervision of a dynamic and invincible figure called Rama who is supposed to be the incarnation of the supreme.

This information may not be of much importance to the archeologists who are interested in exploring the origins of man, but it is sure to open the spiritual gates of the people of the world to have come to know an ancient history linked to the Indian mythology.

Shri Harbinder Singh Sikka has brought certain facts after observing & experiencing his research work for long while staying in Sri Lanka. He presented certain facts regarding Sri Lanka & Shri Ram's relations that existed in the past long back history.

1It is said in the Ramayan that Shri Hanuman while intruding Lankawas arrested by the security of Ravan. Then the King Ravan orderd to kindle fire on the tail of Shri Hanuman. Hanuman's tail was fired that further by its unlimited length extension like heavy electric cable.

2 Shri hanuman flew over the entire portion of Sri Lanka & the whole Lanka was set on fire but excluding the portions of Ashok Vatika where Mata Sita was kept in captivity. Mata Sita was quiet safe during the fire setting session.

3The golden Lanka was destroyed by Hanuman in full. The evidence
exists by the color of the rocks or soil that is available in the portion of
fire zone. The portion of fire zone shows the colour of the soil complete
Black while that of the other zone where the fire was not spread is grey
that makes a difference about the nature of the soil. In the same region of
one side of the existing water body is black while on the other side it is
grey. The black colour is the result of fire as is understood evidently.

4 Mr Sikka has gone all over Lanka & could not find that colour of
soil. He also visited a mountain by the name Supra on the sea shore, the
only mountain as there is no chain or range of mountains on that area. This
mountain appears to have been transported by someone from far distant. This mountain is an open house of medical herbs or plants and generally the
residents of Sri Lanka use it as their doctor. They take out the herbs to be
used as medicines for their illness recovery & are treated very well. A
Hanuman statue is also available adjacent that is worshipped by those who
are recovered. Though these people belong to Buddhist faith, yet they
consume the herbs & then worship for thanks giving to Shri Hanuman. It is
said that it is the same mountain as was brought by Shri Ram when Laxman was unconscious due to being attacked by Ravan's son Meghnat. The Lankan Vedya wanted the Sanjivni Herb that was available only on this mountain. Since Hanuman could not identify the particular Herb, he lifted the entire mountain & flew it to the location where it is situated now. This mountain was never taken back to its original location. This mountain is able to produce all kind of herbs so that the people make use to treat all diseases.

5 There is a place on certain rocks exhibiting the footprints of
Hanuman & others clearly on the rock proving the potential these souls had.
Though it is a matter of faith but certain records appear to be clear just
to resolve the issue. It is also said that the stones that were used for the
construction of the bridge to cross the sea were too light to flow on water
easily. Such stones still are available there.

6 Eng Neil a member of Sugriv Vanar Sena was responsible for the
design as well as construction of the cross bridge now named as Ram Setu.
This is quiet voluminous about 30 m wide for a good access of human as well
as certain equipment.

7 The area where Mother Sita was kept in captivity in Ashok Vatika
is having its attractive beauty of green quiet different than that of the
area that is quiet black in its soil colour. The surface as well as the
depth all are black. How it is possible is not answerable except a thought
that the black portion is due to fire caused by Hanuman at that time?

9 Though these findings do not scientifically prove about the
existence of Shri Ram but science is not above the existence of Shri Ram.
Science is too small in comparison to the existence of Shri Ram. Historians
cannot answer such questions or findings as they themselves are not
scientific or having a calculative capacity. These historians previously
used to claim that Mahabharat happened prior to Ramayana now, they have
changed their opinion by accept the belief that Ramayana happened before
Mahabharat. Anyway, we as people of Bharat & particularly those belonging to
Sanatan Vedic or other Hindu communities do not need any acceptance by the
historians or the scientists that Shri Ram's existence be proved. Shri Ram
is naturally proven by the fact that billions of people for centuries have
faith in him & Shri Ram has already been adopted as a part of cult fort
thousands of years.

10 Those who have been talking about the proof are staying in a dream
world thinking that they are above Shri Ram. These people have misused the
powers of the expression of thought & the liberty that the Vedism or
Hinduism has granted to the people of Bharat. These people might not have
talked that way should some devil like Kans were in power.

11 Shri Ravan's wife Mandodri was born in Rajasthan. In her Maika
village, yet Ravan is considered as their son in law & they condole the day
of Dushera. It is another indirect evidence of existence of Shri Ram. The
effigies of Raven is not burnt there. These people have been offering shrads
on the day of Shri Ravan's death.

12 Do these historians or the so called scientists believe in the
existence of god or their own souls? These people first must prove how they
themselves have been existing live in this world & how their souls have been
working scientifically? Let Karuna Nidhi explain to the entire world how he
has been living in this world without the souls in his body & who has been
operating his system? Some people are mad in this world who tall for certain
narrow gains are irrelevant issues like Karuna & other Historians as well as
scientists do? Unfortunately, the government of Bharat too have cooperated &
supported them openly.

13 The question is whether or not, the government of the day has the
potential to speak against the existence of Shri Ram or just for the sake of
votes & their survival in the government, they have stopped talking about
the very much live issue of Shri Ram's existence. Shall Karuna reply whether
or not he believed in Ravan's existence? The faith of the people in the
existence of Shri Ram has increased & augmented many folds since the issue
was raised by the government stating that there is no historic proof of Shri
Ram. The increasing values of Shri Ram in Bharat has proved that the
approach by the government is baseless & against the Vedic communities in
Bharat as well as around the world. People believe in Ram's existence very
much. In fact it is more than their own existence.

Asteroid to come near Earth in 22 years On Tuesday January 29th 2008.

Special Report

Since it formed over 4.5 billion years ago, Earth has been hit many times by asteroids and comets whose orbits bring them into the inner solar system. These objects, collectively known as Near Earth Objects or NEOs, still pose a danger to Earth today. Depending on the size of the impacting object, such a collision can cause massive damage on local to global scales. There is no doubt that sometime in the future Earth will suffer another cosmic impact; the only question is "when?". There is strong scientific evidence that cosmic collisions have played a major role in the mass extinctions documented in Earth's fossil record. That such cosmic collisions can still occur today was demonstrated graphically in 1994 when Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 broke apart and 21 fragments, some as large as 2 km in diameter, crashed into the atmosphere of Jupiter. If these fragments had hit Earth instead, we would have suffered global catastrophes of the kind that inspire science fiction movies. The dangers posed by these intruders in the inner solar system are now the subject of serious scientific investigation. Observations by astronomers tracking near-Earth asteroids have raised a new object to the top of the Earth-threat list.

The asteroid could strike the Earth in 2102. However, Don Yeomans, manager of NASA's Near Earth Object Program at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, US, told New Scientist: "The most likely situation, by far, is that additional observations will bring it back down to a zero."

He adds: "We're more likely to be hit between now and then by an object that we don't know about."

On 23 February, new observations allowed researchers to more accurately calculate the orbit of the asteroid, named 2004 VD17, which was originally detected by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's LINEAR project. Since the improvement did not rule out a potential collision with the Earth on 4 May 2102, they increased the asteroid's rating to level 2 on the Torino Scale, a relatively rare event. Since 1998, NASA has had a US Congressional mandate to locate 90% of all NEOs of 1 kilometer or larger by 2008. Yeomans says that 830 out of a predicted 1100 have been found so far, along with thousands of smaller objects. The largest asteroid to come near the Earth in more than 20 years will make its closest approach on Tuesday, venturing as close as 1.4 times the distance to the Moon. Already, the first radar observations of the space rock reveal it may have formed from two separate asteroids that fell together and stuck.

The asteroid, named 2007 TU24, was discovered by the Catalina Sky Survey in Arizona, US, on 11 October 2007. Based on its apparent brightness, astronomers estimated that it was between 150 and 600 meters wide, but it has been too far away for ground-based telescopes to resolve it and determine its actual size and shape.

However, on Wednesday, it came close enough to the Earth – about 11 times the Moon's distance – for radar signals to be bounced off its surface. Five hours of observations using NASA's Goldstone radio telescope in California, US, reveal that the asteroid is about 250 meters wide.

The last time an object of about the same size was observed to approach Earth at about the same distance was in September 1985, says Don Yeomans, head of NASA's Near Earth Object programme at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, US. "This will be the closest approach by a known asteroid of this size or larger until 2027," he adds.

But similar close passes probably occur more often and simply go undetected. "There's a lot of objects zipping by that are not seen," Yeomans told gyan.com, adding that about 7000 asteroids of about the same size are expected to venture near Earth's orbit, and only 20% have been discovered so far.

The Goldstone observations have not only helped pin down the asteroid's size, but also its orbit, says JPL's Steven Ostro, who led the radar observations. "We can guarantee absolutely that there's zero chance of any hazardous close approaches to Earth until 2170."

Spinning rock

Moreover, the asteroid "has a very interesting shape – we see asymmetries and evidence for concavities", he told gyan.com He says the preliminary images hint that 2007 TU24 may be a so-called contact binary – created when two asteroids orbiting each other lose enough energy to eventually "fall into each other". He says about 10% of known near-Earth asteroids have shapes that suggest they were formed by such mergers and another 10 to 15% have orbiting partners.

The radar observations also suggest the asteroid is rotating slowly – perhaps once every 10 to 30 hours, he estimates based on the initial observations. Studying rotation rates can provide clues about whether an asteroid is a solid rock or a loose collection of rubble, says Yeomans. That's because asteroids that rotate faster than about once every 2.2 hours would fly apart if they were rubble piles.

Since 2007 TU24's rate is slower than that, "it doesn't tell us anything about whether it's a monolithic rock or a rubble pile", says JPL's Lance Benner.

If a particular space rock appeared to be on a collision course with Earth, knowing its size, shape and rotation rate would also be crucial for planning ways to deflect it, says Ostro. "If we had to change its orbit, we'd have to figure out what kind of object we're dealing with," he says.

Early detection

Fortunately, 2007 TU24 will come no closer than 1.4 times the Moon's distance. But its discovery only a few months before its closest approach to Earth highlights the importance of finding potentially dangerous space rocks, astronomers say. Recent research suggests small asteroids, just a few tens of meters across, can cause significant destruction if they impact the Earth.

Currently, NASA is hoping to turn up 90% of potentially hazardous asteroids larger than 1 kilometer wide by the end of 2008. But it says it does not have the funding to comply with a directive by the US Congress to find 90% of all space rocks down to 140 meters across. "If we could do that, then 99% of the risk associated with all near-Earth objects of all sizes would be retired," says Yeomans, explaining that the rocks would be discovered early enough to deflect them.

Further radar observations of 2007 TU24 will be made with the giant Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico when the rock is much closer to Earth. And for a brief time, amateur observers with telescopes 8 centimeters (3 inches) or larger should be able to see the asteroid under good observing conditions on the night of 29-30 January. Its closest approach will take place on the 29th at 0833 GMT.

PCs will continue to get faster, in accordance with Moore's Law, but it won't be like the old days when vendors brought out successive generations of microprocessor chips that ran at faster and faster speeds, to the delight of the users.
"They've hit the wall because of heat," Tom Halfhill, senior analyst for the Microprocessor Report newsletter in San Jose, Calif., told to Gyan.com
Currently, chip speeds have topped out at a little under 4 gigahertz (4 billion cycles per second) because they get hotter as they run faster, and at higher speeds they fry themselves.

Chip-makers respond The industry's answer: adding more "cores" (i.e. copies of the processor circuitry itself) that run at today's speeds. Vendors are offering two, three and four processors per chip, while eight-core versions are expected.
The cores run in parallel, Halfhill explained, and the machine's operating system (often modified Windows or Linux) knows how to divide up its tasks between the cores, to enhance overall performance, and, of course, keep up with Moore'Law.
Formulated decades ago by Intel co-founder Gordon Moore, Moore's Law states that the power of computer chips — and therefore computers — can be expected to double every other year.
The problem, Halfhill added, is that typical end-user applications, such as word processors, spreadsheets or browsers have no facilities for using multiple cores.
"Most application programs were written to run on one processor, and adding parallelism is not trivial," Halfhill noted. "It is happening slowly, but not all desktop programs can run in parallel — and if you are just typing with a word processor, what difference does the extra speed make?"
Reconfigurable PCs Beyond multiplying, the cores are also eventually expected to specialize, and even let PCs reconfigure themselves on the fly, predicts analyst Rob Enderle, head of the Enderle Group in San Jose, Calif. If the user is running a video game, some of the cores would convert themselves into graphics processors to handle the workload. If the PC is handling computation-heavy jobs like encryption, they would convert into plain-vanilla processors.
Antivirus software could move into one core, wall itself off from infection and from there monitor the rest of the system, he added.
"All in all, we should be able to look forward to more intelligence in our applications, especially from the parts that operate in the background, such as spell-checkers or virus-checkers," Enderle said. "The more intelligence you can build in, the more likely it is to do something amazing."

A Billion Dollar Indian Cricket. India’s most valuable company, Reliance Industries Ltd, successfu

A Billion Dollar Indian Cricket. India’s most valuable company, Reliance Industries Ltd, successfully bid $111.9 million for the Mumbai team, the Indian board announced after bids for franchises were opened.United Breweries Ltd, owned by Indian billionaire Vijay Mallya, who last year bought into Formula One team Spyker and renamed it Force India, snapped up Bangalore for $111.6 million. The base price for owing a team for 10 years was set at $50 million. The inaugural event will be held in April. The league, expected to feature many of the game’s top players, is an effort to counter an unofficial Indian Twenty20 league which began late last year."I’m delighted that UB group has got it," Mallya "United Spirits will now use this as an active promotional platform for all our brands," added Mallya, who lost the Mumbai bid to Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance.Eleven companies — some a consortium of individuals — were in the race to own teams from a choice of 12 cities where the franchises would be based.Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was part of the consortium that clinched Kolkata for $75.09 million, while infrastructure company GMR Holdings won the Delhi franchise for $84 million.Mohali went for $76 million to a syndicate that included Bollywood actress Preity Zinta while media group Deccan Chronicle won Hyderabad for $107.01 million.MONEY-SPINNER"To date we have made $1.749 billion," board vice-president Lalit Modi told a news conference. "We are looking to build on it going forward."The companies will pay 10 percent of the bid price to the board every year, a board official said.Organisers announced last week they had secured a 10-year rights contract worth more than $1 billion for the league. Television rights were worth $918 million, with another $100 million for the league’s promotion.India Cements won the Chennai franchise for $91 million while Jaipur was snapped up for $67 million by UK-based company Emerging Media. The 44-day IPL starts on April. 18 and will feature eight franchises with 16-man squads in its inaugural season.Teams will play home and away games leading up to a grand final. The first year will feature 59 matches played in late afternoon for prime-time television.India, where cricketers are feted like pop stars, has the largest global cricket audience and multi-million-dollar sponsorship deals. The IPL has the patronage of the International Cricket Council , the sport’s governing body, and is intended to be part of a soccer-style Champions League, involving teams from several countries.

Now

Everything is Fine and justified but what about others Sports. for example

Hockey,Football,kabaddi,Archery,kayaking,basketball,handball,athletics,long jump,pole vault,throwing and many more.

what about them?

can't they also be commercialised like cricket?

can't they also get same recognition like cricket?

can't they also get same popularity like cricket?

can't they also get the same honour and spirit like cricket?

can't they also get the same respect like cricketers get?

can't they also get the same price and money like cricketers?

now as per reports SRK said he will also promote gilli danda after success of IPL 20/20. I appriciate his thoughts and efforts but still I would like to ask why so late SRK? can't Big Bollywood Stars and Industry Tycoons Like Ambani and UB group Chairmen Vijay mallya has the guts to donate atleast few lakhs on rest of the sports to motivate the rest of the sports players.

later when Indian hockey team wins the Asia Cup Last year ,A leading state-owned bank in India has announced that it will pay half a million rupees ($12,500)(compare with IPL Payments to IPL Cricketers) to each member of India's world beating hockey team. The payments follows complaints by members of the team that their retention of hockey's Asia Cup has been ignored by many in the country. The team's coach complained that in contrast, India's Twenty20 cricket winners received large cash payments. The President of the Indian Hockey Federation, KPS Gill, told the BBC later in 2007 "As far as the government and politicians are concerned they only know one sport - cricket. "It's a pity. But cricket gives the giver a lot of publicity. That's why all these politicians are doling out cash awards to the cricket players." There was saturation media coverage of the cricket win, but only sparse coverage of the hockey triumph, even though hockey is India's national sport.

if you have the answers kindly post on this big issue.

Mumbai: NDTV, a private news channel has recommended 5 names for 'Bharat-Ratna' award. In its program called 'Bharat-Ratna' Poll, the channel has invited public opinion for final selection of one of the 5 nominees for the said award. The channel has recommended M F Hussain through its poll for this most prestigious Award.A complaint was registered to the above effect by member of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) at Nirmalnagar police station, Khar (East). Shri. Uday Kakade, a senior police inspector assured that the issue would be brought to the notice of the Government. HJS has appealed to all proud Hindus to lodge complaints at local police stations in the matter. Also participate in online protest drive by sending automated e-letter to concerned authorities and voicing your protestThis is in reference to your campaign of SMS poll for Bharatratna where you have recommended M.F. Hussain for prestigious Bharatratna award. As you are aware, M.F. Hussain has drawn nude and obscene paintings of Hindu Deities and Bharatmata (Mother India). Thus he has hurt religious and national sentiments of billions of Hindus and Bhartiyas. More than 1,250 police complaints have been lodged against him and lot of court cases are going on against him throughout India. By including name of M.F. Hussain in Bharatratna poll, you have hurt sentiments of billions of Hindus by glorifying M.F. Hussain. Also it is a great insult to award itself. Therefore we demand - 1. Immediate withdrawal of the SMS recommending MF Hussain for Bharatratna.

In a trend set by the ministers and VIP, VVIP that has became more noticeable with each passing day;

In a trend set by the ministers and VIP, VVIP that has became more noticeable with each passing day; people in the city are facing great inconvenience & harassment in the name of security due to the movement of so called VIP cavalcade and vehicles. Several people over the past few weeks have raised their voiced their grievances over difficulties caused by official convoys, the movement of which shows total disregard to greater public interest. At times public on vehicles have been delayed, or worse faced rude conduct of Police personnel guiding traffic. This is nothing but a travesty of democracy that a few people who should have acted responsibly are in fact to blame for causing hassles to the public. Here I will like to share one incident on January 18,when I was heading towards LGB international Airport from Paltan bazaar it took almost two hours to reach to airport .later the reason I found on the middle of the traffic jam that the entire north lane of the highway was kept open exclusively for the chief minister’s convoy. Even before the CM was given the privilege of enjoying a priority passage, hundreds of people in their vehicles were all squeezed in onto the south lane leading to long delays. No one would know how seriously the delay had affected people who were supposed to enjoy the same democratic rights as the chief minister; it was a shame that such conduct was still being practiced with the willing participation of administration and police. At times even ambulance were kept waiting to facilitate the speedy movement of a minister’s convoy. It was a waste of public money police being used just to serve the interest of a few persons and not for the greater good mankind. or Is police personal presence in the key areas is essential? Comments Please

Lets Unite and fight terrorism, together, today,Now Why whole nation is silent on bombings in Guwahati?
Why no political party not raised any voice against it?
Why there are not nationwide bandhs over Guwahati blasts?
Is life of 15/20 people killed and hundreds injured there does not bear any value?
Dalit killed in Nagpur and the Shameless minister of Maharshtra R R Patil says that it is naxal activity. Why Shiv Sena is quite and why BJP is running to save its own skin?
Very sad to see biased role of media, government towards rural and poor parts of India.
We need to improve or soon our soul will perish. Yet there is no reply even after so many hours. Media and press Reporters creating Breaking News just to get TRP of their News channel ,Intellectuals get time to write paragraph over paragraph to pull ones leg on non issue but on issue their hearts, mind and lips are locked.
This shows the intensity to fight terror. Where is bajrang dal who always talks about hindu and hindutava? Every one is enough literate to know what is right what is wrong the matter is how we are going to change it? Just complaining is not fighting against injustice, terrorism. Today I question my father that as a educated citizen what you contributed to society to make it better place for living? and I would not like my son to ask same question to me some years later. So we have to work instead of complaining.
Lets decide and work …
1)Politicle party choose one from existing.2)Our mode of contribution and control3)System of Law we need.4)System of governance.
5) The Entire System Must be reformed.

chand haseen yaadon ka gubar hai shaayad

na ummiden na tamanna-e betaab hai
zindagi ka sirf ek pal hai shaayad

Har khushi se dur, har gham ke karib main rehna chahta hoon,
Bas ek apne aap mein, aur dusre tanhai mein main rehna chahta hoon.

Na pyaar ka ehsas ho kabhi, ki ilzamon se ghir jaoon nahin,
Is se pehle ki koi saza de, khud hi ko saza main dena chhta hoon.

Gar koi gunah hua ho kabhi mujhse, shayad isliye,
Mulzim kehlane se pehle, khud ko mujrim karar main karna chahta hoon.

Yeh fizul ke yaarane, be-matlab ranjishein aur katl-e-armaan,
Na vaadon ka ehsaan, na ummidon ka udhar main lena chahta hoon.

Vo pyaar ki baatein, doston ki guft-a-goo aur hasne-hasane ki mehfilein,
Ab choodo ye baatein, bas ghame-e-tanhai mein mast main to rehna chahta hoon.

Mere bhitar jhaank kar, dabi-chhipi aawaz na sunle koi,
Har baat na sunle koi, jaane kisse kya main kehna chahta hoon.

Toofan se kaun darta hai aye khuda, lekin,
Maujo mein bhi to kahan main behna chahta toon.

Ghazal ye marham hoti jo, dard-e-dil ka har ghav bhar jata,
Ab iske siva kya kahoon, ki sirf dard main sehna chahta hoon.

Kuch aisa kar loon ki, zamaanaa yaad rakkhe mujhko,
Fir aye maalik, bas teri god mein main sona chahta hoon.

Har sham yaad hai sharaab-wali, doston-dushmano ke sath-wali,
Bohot hua auron ke sath be-wajah ab to, bas khud hi pina, khud hi ko main pilaana chahta hoon.

Khushi, main chahoon na chahoon, ummidon ko dafan bhi kar dun gar,
dard-e-talab bujh jati hai kaise, kambakht kuch bhi kahan main bujhana chahta hoon.

Wajood-e-khushi-e-hayaat dhoondte hue, abroo-e-imaan-e-chain kho baithe,
ab likhte nahi to kya karte, kisiki humdardi bhari nigaah kahaan main paana chahta hoon.

Koi naam puchhe to, malum nahi kehna,
Nahin kisiko gumrah, main karma chahta hoon.

Bayan-e-haal-e-dil hai ye faqat, nahin tumse mukabla-e-shor, aye GHALIB,
Gustakhi zarur hai, lekin Kahan kisise yaari ya dushmani, ab main karna chahta hoon.
