If I can get hold of a decent laptop and upload some pics of my art and get more than an hour with internet access I'll add more poetry.

As for the now...

it's plenty of AA Meetings, working my Steps with my  sponsor...a few paintings for Derby sales, and some hand illustrated T-Shirts for Daniel to sell at his shop on 4th Street next to Cafe Kilamanjaro.

I'll post what I can when I can. Have a wonderful Spring, Easter...or whatever you celebrate this time of year.

The final installment of 4th Street's Home Grown Music Series is going down tonight at 7pm (free). Peter Searcy, of Label X, is headlining and The Trust and Shinerunners are opening. I will be at PB&J, so I can't make it, but this would be my second choice.

If you are in the same boat as me, be sure to catch Peter Searcy as part of Label X's Showcase at Headliners on December 15th. If you do go let us know if you get any pics.

I have to say this may have been th coolest thing that 4th Street Live has ever done, and I hope they turn it into an annual event. It has been great for local bands and their fans and hopefully it has brought some new business to the downtown area.

Have fun this weekend, there is a ton to do!

The October- They are listed on the 4th Street Live link, but not on the flyer...we will keep you updated with this conflict. If it turns out they aren't coming, they will be at the MSL on Dec 14th. If I was a betting man, I would say they will not be at this show.

Local band, Digby, played a few songs at Ear-x-tacy Friday night before their show at 4th Street Live for the Homegrown Music Series. They were promoting their new album Why Not Plastic. In what seems to be a new trend (see Radiohead- In Rainbows), Why Not Plastic is downloadable for FREE here. You name the price to help Digby pay the bills.

The next round of the Louisville Home Grown music series brings Digby, alongside The Photographic & The Invaders. I met Jamey of The Photographic a few weeks back & told me personally it was going to be an incredible show. The Invaders should be going on around 7, The Photographic are scheduled for 8:20, and of course you've got to stick around for Label X's prodigy Digby. And if the music isn't enough (as if that could be the case), then consider this: when Your Black Star performed in the series, during their set the most entertaining man alive was dancing ridiculous, entertaining the hell out of the crowd.

The show is at 4th Street Live. Also, get ready for next week's show with Cabin.

For as annoying as 4th Street can be sometimes, it can do some good too, like thte fashion show earlier this summer, and some free shows, including tonights by Your Black Star, Follow the Train and The Fervor.  The question is how to balance this with tonight's Gallery Hop. There's going to be a deck show (artfully designed skateboards) at Derby City Espresso (331 E. Market), should be sick.

The wood rose is brown. It's seeds wait inside shadows of each petal. The dense green pine needles against its neutral earthly tones make me stop and soak up the beauty. Pieces of blue sky split the clouds.

A man on the bus was dozing. His hair thinning, but no sight of gray, clean nails, graceful hands resting on his lap, the shadow of a bus window sticker crossed his arm like a tattoo.

The woman in front of me had the longest dreads I'd ever seen. I wondered if they were real and looked for telling signs. I found the truth.

I thought about Halloween and writing a murder story, this bus, the morgue thirteen blocks away, and...

I watched a man walk by. The colors in his striped shirt matched his frosted curly hair, pants and sandals. I would like the comfort of sandals like that.

I ran up the library steps. Literally.

Write... on the money.

Just enough to buy six T-shirts to illustrate. Three for the store window on 4th Street and Three to sell to a few aquaintances...all to be photographed, perhaps posted and...yes perhaps duplicates made for Derby? Or any other thing that comes to mind.  Between simple illustrations such as the link shows or more complicated paintings with the right materials from Jaquard, I should have a crate full of shirts to sell over the next two to three months. Earth Day, Poetry month...oh, Mother's Day is quickly approaching with father's Day right behind.  And of course there's the Political Camp...or is that campy. 

I'll keep doing the T's until I have enough for a laptop. Then I'll work on my designs and playwriting, poetry, lyrics, etc. I will not give up.

Now, to do this as a sober thinking individual!  And I don't mean drinking or not...I mean sober thinking. Sane thingking. Clear thinking.

Will this be a problem for  a creative like me? Well, if I keep working my steps, stay in touch with my sponsor, and don't pick up that thought...you understand.

HOOHAH!

I think I may have to wait on the clowning until I get my own place. In the meantime...it's here and there. 

Look for MY T-SHIRTS on 4th... and Frankfort Avenue. I have yet to find the proper place...soon.

The great outdoors offers the best show available to anyone willing to sit and watch.

The changes surround us, the latest season is blossoming, petals swirling across a blue backdrop, rain drops will be bouncing at some time...all this being an overture to summer.

However, if by chance you really want to get some sounds under your skin...Appalachian Spring is my latest recommendation. 

 If you want the smell of old books drifting beneath your nose head off to a second hand thrift shop and browse thier book section on some sunny afternoon then head out to a local park bench, perchance the waterfront.

Funny...I really have no clue where I will be tomorrow. At least I have today. And I am okay.

So very okay. I write this poem for those who are not.

Homeless is a funny thing.

A fickle thing that bites

When snow is bent on barging into spring unnanounced.

Bridges call, these spaces

harboring faces forgotten, bounced

between dreams that spin like spokes

on bikes of summer.

Who has money?  Crumbs of  time...

Drums and rhyme permeate

This brain. Again.

And I wait for the rain.

My poncho, now torn,

No sleeping bag or tent,

My soul now bent on simply surviving.

Perhaps in another lifetime

Might be in a different dream.

We'll find the things we both wanted

while crossing some gentle stream.

No rolling rivers, no crashing falls,

No mighty oceans to cross.

But until then my loneliness calls

when I hear the Albatross.

You have your Coolibah shadows at dusk,

I've my weeping willow at dawn

Both of us have empty pillows at night

for us to lay all our dreams on.

Perhaps we'll meet one another

Mid way on some quiet sand bar

With gentle waters playing

Beneath a magical star.

Perhaps love will happen tomorrow,

For each of us in our own ruins,

As fate twists in and out of our lives

like a flute with many tunes.

Yes, you have your Coolibah shadows

and I have my willow at dawn

each with our own empty pillows

for us to lay all our dreams on.

Perhaps the angels will hear us

and offer their feathers for flight

That we may at least spend our dreams

holding one another at night.
