To alleviate much of the confusion regarding Nvidia naming schemes for their current cards they are generically naming all the 9 series cards under the GT100 branding. The new naming convention will apparently apply to all 55nm GeForce 9 series cards. It is reported that by the end of 2008, Nvidia will be offering today’s 9000 series as G100, GT130, GT140 and G150 models.

It has also come to light that Nvidia also has newer GTX 200 series cards ready to launch on October 15th. It is unknown what “new” cards Nvidia is making available but we are betting its the 55nm die shrink of the GTX 280 aka the GTX 280+ and maybe even the GTX 350. Exciting times as usual in the world of graphics cards, I can’t wait to see what Nvidia has in store for us.

An Australian e-tailer has leaked information on Nvidia’s new cards the GTX 280+ and the GTX 350 set for release by the end of this year.

The first card, the GTX 280+, is listed as employing a GT200b GPU on a 55nm process as well as 1gb of GDDR3 memory. More importantly, the second card, the GTX 350, is listed as utilising a new 55nm GPU the GT300, using 2gb of GDDR5 memory. No pricing is included but he site has the release for the GTX 280+ as September and the GTX 350 for Q4 ‘08. It looks like our previously reported rumours of Nvidia’s new flagship card have all but come but fruition, seemingly the only difference is Nvidia hasnt opted for a dual GPU card. If these leaks turn to be true we could see some new cards right around the corner. Anyone who want to take a look at the overanxious site can find it here.

Alright so the 4870X2 came out this week! This is huge! Alright the prices on all of the other cards

Alright so the 4870X2 came out this week! This is huge! Alright the prices on all of the other cards are doing just what I said they were going to do in my previous post (look for yourself). NVidia is going to slowly drop their cards prices to even out the price to performance ratio. As for ATI, they are just sitting back and letting all of the cash roll in. ATI is playing this out very smart. The new 4870X2 is hovering just below $600. This is the perfect sweetspot for this card. ATI will be able to keep it there until close to the holidays if they wanted to. Its not too expensive to disappoint the customers, but its expensive enough to rack in some serious cash. ATI is really naming names right now. They could have easily put this up close to $700, but they knew that in the long run they will be able to hold this price longer and have more consistent buyers. I just can’t wait to see what these things can do in crossfire!

nVidia on the other hand is going to have to drop their 280 cards. In fact im surprised they haven’t already. Why have a 280 ($450) when you can have a card twice as fast for just $100 more? I think nVidia is going to have these cards as expensive as possible until people just stop buying from them altogether. We can expect a price drop. But instead of the crazy drop like I had expected, I think it will be a slow and steady drop. They will try and squeeze every dollar they can out of the 280’s.

ATI is making very smart decisions right now and I expect them to keep it up. We will have to see how nVidia reacts to the loss of customers.

Things aren’t looking too good at the moment for those wanting a reasonable priced video card

Things aren’t looking too good at the moment for those wanting a reasonable priced video card to use with a hackintosh and Windows. My system has an Nvidia 7300GT that works well with Mac OS 10.5.4, and performs ok under Windows XP. I only really use Windows for games, and have recently been playing through Half Life 2 again. I tried using Crossover Games to install it on OSX but the performance was choppy, so I’m rebooting into Windows whenever I want to play. The original game is fine at 1680×1050, and Episode 1 ran just as well. Episode 2 is the stumbling block, with a big drop in smoothness unless the video options are turned all the way down or resolution dropped. Episode 3 doesn’t have a release date yet but is sure to up the hardware requirements even more.

So what are the upgrade options? The Nvidia 9600GT is unsupported and doesn’t appear to be working yet, and neither are the newer 260 and 280. There are several options lower in the range, but how much of an improvement these would give is debatable. The best option from Nvidia looks to still be an 8800GT. On the ATI side the latest 4850/4870 are reported as working, as are the 3850/3870 that preceded them. Aria have a 3870 512Mb for £82.19 and a 4850 512Mb for £123.26. The problem here is going to be noise. My current Sparkle 7300GT is passively cooled so is silent. Looks like much research ahead, just as soon as Insanelymac starts working again.

Veamos unos ejemplos:

Ranting: Alright guys sorry for not posting in a while. My mobo (evga 780i) just randomly died

Ranting: Alright guys sorry for not posting in a while. My mobo (evga 780i) just randomly died….. PISSES ME OFF!…. Anyway has anyone noticed the huge price cuts for the 9800 cards?!?! I mean holy ****! The GX2 is hovering around $280 and the gtx is under $200. Something big must have hit nVidia financially. I mean i bought my 9800 gtx just a week before the 280 came out (mistake on my part) for $300 and now that same card is $220…. Every day these cards are dropping like crazy. By the holidays these cards will be in the $100’s. Especially if ATI keeps their lead on nVidia for price to performance.

Now i would also like to correct myself on a previous post… I said that ATI is kicking nVidia in performance. When i say that i mean single card solutions. But technically (if you have way too much money to spend) the tri sli 280’s destroy to 4870.

Recommendations: As of today if you had to build computer now i say dont. Wait for the 4870X2 and see how the price tags react. I see the 4870’s dropping a couple bucks, not much but enough to maybe get a nicer case or something. But what nVidia does could decide whether to buy from ATI or nVidia. If i were nVidia i would be preparing for a major hit financially. With the upcoming release of the 4870X2 people are sure to drop any old cards and pick it up. They shoiuld lower their prices on the 280 so that if you were to buy two of them it would be just a bit more expensive then one X2. This is because in a benchmark test between two 4870’s and two 280’s the 280’s would have a slight edge over ATI’s gift from heaven. But for nVidia this would mean lowering the price of the 280 to nearly $300. And im not sure if their manufacturers could manage such a large price drop in such a short amount of time.

Anyway i will be posting some vids soon about my computer parts and of the rebuild i have to do when i receive my new 780i. Feel free to comment on the fight between ATI and nVidia. It will be interesting to see where we are by the holidays…

This two big video card companies fought each other for many years. As of today, NVIDIA is at the top of it’s with its new NVIDIA 280 but ATI doesn’t want to fall far behind and they have released also their latest video card the ATI 4780.

This two new top of the line video cards have set gamers, overclockers, and tester to their purchasing limit because these two new video cards doesn’t come cheap. The NVIDIA 280 prices ranging from $450-$600 while the ATI 4870 price ranging from $300-$400.

The NVIDIA 280 blew away the ATI 4870 with its performance the ATI 4870 has a higher shader clock. Please refer to the picture below.

benchmark

 Picture taken from http://forums.pureoverclock.com

As you can see at the specification of the two video cards, the GTX 280 has lesser Core clock maybe its because the GTX 280 is 65nm while the ATI 4870 is 55nm, the overclockability of 55nm has lesser heat than the 65nm. The ATI 4870 wins over the GTX 280 with its high Memory Type, Clock, Stream Processor Units (SPU), and less wattage. The true power of the GTX 280 is the Memoy interface which is 512-BIT while the ATI 4870 has 256-bit, this is the why the Nvidia GTX 280 wins overall over ATI 4870.

Many critics still says that the ATI 4870 is the best video card today but as what I seen in some website regarding the benchmark of the two video cards, the Nvidia GTX 280 has a higher points, 20%-50% better performance than the ATI 4870.

The battle still doesn’t stop their. As of today, ATI is perfecting a new video card name 4870×2, it a regular 4870 but has two core and 2x of its Memory interface, but this new video card is still in the testing stage but the as the critics says that the Nvidia GTX 280 will be doomed with is supremacy.

First real post ever!!! Alright words been going around that nVidia is going through some major financial issues…. hence the outrageous price of the gtx280. ATI in my opinion has taken the lead in graphics cards. Their new 4870 is only a few frames per second off from the 280 and still has really immature drivers. Not too mention the fact that the 4870 is only $300! nVidia better be coming out with some pretty kickass drivers in order to compete with the soon to be 4870X2 which will have a cheaper opening price then the POS called the 280. If I were building a new system right now I would be going ATI all the way! Screw the 280 the 4870X2 is sure to be the fastest commercial (you never know what the governments hiding) gpu we’ve ever seen! ATI has brought the competition to a whole new level.

I’ve never entirely trusted “The Inquirer”, but these scores seem pretty plausible. If these scores are accurate, the GTX280 improves upon the Geforce 9800 GTX’s overall performance by about 18% 35%?
