What did you come out as (gay, bi, transgendered, use any terms you like here)? Lesbian/bi. But I mostly say lesbian because I am married to a woman, and being committed and monogamous, I don’t have any plans that involve the penis.
What other words would you use to describe yourself? None of them are orientation words. Weird. Geek. Fat. Atheist. Irritable. Amazon.
How old were you when you first realized your identity? Late teens, maybe, when I stopped lying to myself, but kept fighting. It was much longer before I acted on it.
How old were you when you first told someone? Heh heh. 27?
Did you plan it? If so, how? No. No. No.
What made you choose that person to tell? We were both drunk. We told each other.
Can you remember exactly what you said? I remember what we did. Any conversations came afterward.
How did you feel? Relieved. Very good.
What was the person’s reaction? Surprised but pleased.
What did they say? The conversation went something like: Her: “But you talk about boys, about Colin Firth.” Me: “Yeah, well, I think I’ve been bisexual for a long time. I just don’t talk about it. Anyway, the entire time you played womens football, you shouted all the time about how straight you were.”
What was your relationship with the person like afterwards? I married her, so I’d say pretty good.
What’s it like now? Still good, though we’re physically separated because she’s going to school.
If you’ve been outed unwillingly, who did it? A former coworker, who I’d just come out to, and told that I had gotten married. He told my former boss, who was pretty much the last person I would have ever told.
What happened? My former boss tracked me down at my dad’s house and congratulated me on my recent marriage and then got mad at me because I never told her I was a lesbian. Well, I wasn’t when I worked for her. At least not practicing … Anyway, I then berated my former coworker for outing me, and he innocently said, I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to tell anyone. I suppose it was a kneejerk reaction; he was shocked himself, and he had to tell someone, and our former boss had just called him out of the blue.
What were peoples’ reactions? Surprise, maybe shock. But overall not bad at all. Finding the right time to tell anyone that I’m lesbian is pretty hard, but it is mostly hard on me.
If you’ve experienced homophobia etc, please give an example. I’m not sure I’ve had it directed at me personally, but more as a group. A couple of weeks ago, before Election Day, there was a large group of people standing at a busy intersection, shouting support for a measure that would outlaw gay marriage, called Prop. 8. (And it passed). Anyway, I felt very helpless and angry and upset because I knew all these people didn’t want me to be happy, and stood between me and my legal marriage to my partner of four years, and wife of a few months. I felt like a prisoner of hate as I did my shopping and actually cut my trip short because I was so upset. I cried most of the way home.
Since coming out, how “out” are you in the following areas of your life:
Educational institution: n/a
Job: Very out. We were outed together on the day we got married legally, because people from work saw us at the courthouse. The rumor mill had already started, so we just decided to come out to everyone. It was actually a really good if uncomfortable experience.
Family: Some. Though I didn’t tell many of them directly. In fact, my father and I still don’t talk about it directly, but we’re getting a lot closer. But all the family members that matter to me know. And all the ones that don’t matter, never will. None of their business, especially if it means them sending more evil homo forward e-mails.
Friends: Mostly out. Some of my friends that I don’t talk to that much may not know. And if we’re in that situation, it probably means that we’re not close enough and it hasn’t come up and probably won’t. But if you ask me, I will tell. The last person I told did ask me about my wedding ring. She’s very religious and very sweet and I wasn’t sure what her reaction would be. She was pretty nice and though she doesn’t approve of my “lifestyle,” it went pretty well.
What does being out mean to you? It means being free to talk about my wife. No longer referring to her as my roommate. Because who stays with a roommate for four years, when you make enough money to live by yourself? It means talking directly about her to my dad or at work, without having to dance around who sleeps in what bedroom. It means sneaking an occasional peck on the cheek in the car. That said, I don’t know if I live my life particularly like I’m out all the time.
What differences, if any, did your cultural background make to your experience of coming out? I don’t know that there’s any difference to relate. I’m from a conservative part of the United States, the Midwest, so while there are gay people around, they’re pretty quiet about it. So it makes it pretty hard. My partner took me to a gay bar a few times, before either of us were out to each other, which I think is pretty telling, in retrospect. She said she liked to go there because she didn’t have to worry about being hit on by men. Anyway, the bar was very blue collar and low key. Which is how it needed to be in order to survive that area. When I moved to California, I thought it would be a lot different, that people would be a lot more accepting of homosexuality. The truth is, they’re not. The only really truly gay-friendly places in the state would be San Francisco, southern California’s sprawl known in general terms to none Californians as LA, and perhaps Sacramento. Where I live currently, they overwhelmingly voted to support Prop. 8, to prohibit gay marriage.
What does the concept of the closet mean to you? It means not telling anyone about your orientation or your partner. Lying to people directly. Calling your partner your roommate. Lying to yourself.
What advice would you give someone wanting to come out? Give people credit. They probably have some clue that you are gay. A lot of my friends claimed they knew, although it was probably only hindsight talking. It’s hard but it feels a lot better once you do it, like a big huge weight being lifted off. I haven’t had any seriously bad reactions so far. But then again, I haven’t told anyone who would have a serious bad reaction either. Probably because if they don’t love me for who I am, in my entirety, they’re not close enough to me to be worth bothering with. I’m thinking about one of my aunts, in particular. She would NEVER hear it from me. Maybe pick someone you know will be fairly sympathetic. Do NOT pick the least supportive, most bigoted person you can think of. And then I had people just figure it out, like my best friend. You’d be surprised.
If you could do it all again, would you do it any differently? If so, how? Give people more credit. Tell them earlier. It took me a year to tell the first person I told directly (aside from my partner, which was a mutual discovery, you might say). She was totally cool with it. I knew she would be, because her best friend growing up is a lesbian. I’m at the point now where I’m tired of covering up who I am, and who I am married to. So maybe I would’ve been more vocal earlier. It just took me a long time to grow into this new identity, I suppose.

Mais voilà, un français l’a surmonté en à peine 27 heures. Nymh, démoniste sur le serveur Drek’thar, a été le premier à atteindre la nouvelle limite de level. Il n’a été aidé que d’un prêtre, Pavelomm. Ce dernier n’a obtenu aucun point d’expérience pour sa contribution. Un bel exemple d’altruisme… Notre français de 21 ans avait pris quelques jours de congés afin de “profiter pleinement” de cette extension. On le prend au mot : « Nous avons enchaîné les monstres durant 27 heures, avec deux pauses qui, cumulées font 25 minutes.» L’exploit laisse admirative la quasi-unanimité des 11 millions d’abonnés à ce MMORPG (jeu de rôle en ligne). La presse en ligne a encensé cette prouesse. L’informageek le félicite aussi… de ne pas être mort devant son écran, comme le joueur chinois qui l’année dernière, avait passé trois jours consécutifs à jouer à WoW dans un cyber-café. Que de bravoure.

Yo ya he empezado a probar la B3 de la versión 2.7 de WordPress, la plataforma de creación de blogs. Aunque no gracias a WordPress.com, que aún no ha incorporado la nueva versión a sus servidores, sino gracias a “Ayuda WordPress”, que ha puesto a disposición de todo el que quiera la Beta3 de WP2.7. Solo hay que registrarse,y ¡listo! Asi que aquí, gracias a Ayuda WordPress, os iremos contando las mejoras de la nueva versión que ayudarán a los Bloggers a transmitir su mensaje.

Escritorio: El escritorio principal es la parte más mejorada de la v2.7. Como ya dije, está formado por módulos, que no solo podremos colocar a placer en el escritorio, sino que podemos escoger cuales queremos ver y cuales no. Vamos a ver cuales son los módulos del escritorio:

• Módulo “Ahora puedes”: En el módulo “Ahora Puedes” tenemos una visión global de algunas estadísticas de nuestro blog, como el número de posts, el número de páginas, el número de categorias, el número de etiquetas y los comentarios (total - aprovados - Spam - Esperando moderación)
• Módulo “Quick Press”: El módulo de notas rápidas es un módulo bastante útil. Te permite publicar un post de una forma rápida y sencilla (por ejemplo, si lo que tienes que contar es algo urgente). No da demasiadas opciones (ni formatos de texto, tamaño de letra, tablas de símbolos) y tampoco permite elegir una categoría para el post (solo etiquetas).
• Módulo “Comentarios Recientes”: Desde este módulo puedes ver prácticamente íntegros los últimos comentarios del blog, asi como editarlos, marcarlos como Spam o incluso rechazarlos, sin tener que ir al típico “Gestionar>Comentarios”
• Módulo “Recent Drafts”: Aquí van a parar los posts que has escrito y no has publicado, por el motivo que sea. No tiene gran utilidad, asi que recuerdo que puedes quitar este módulo cuando quieras.
• Módulo “Noticias”: Este módulo se actualizará constantemente con las noticias que lance WordPress.com. Te ayudará a mantenerte informado sobre qué es lo que pasa en WordPress.

Hoy nos hemos quedado aquí, viendo los distintos módulos del escritorio. Pero WP2.7 ofrece bastante más. Como dirían en la tele… seguiremos informando.

Az örökséget rendező Vera Chytilovához eddig nem volt szerencsém, de a DVD-t 299 Ft-ért kínálták a Tescóban, gondoltam, ezzel annyira nem lehet hibázni. S tényleg.

A cselekmény egyszerű, mint maguk az ábrázolt alakok is: a főszereplő Bohus léha, de ártalmatlan tahóként tengeti szimpla kis életét egy cseh falucskában. A ‘90-es évek elején járunk, az átmenet időszakában, amikor Bohusnak is radikálisan megváltozik az élete: váratlanul mesés örökség hull az ölébe. Hősünk nem tud mit kezdeni a hirtelen jött szerencsével: tobzódik az élvezetben, hogy végre ő is valaki, osztja az észt mindenkinek (saját téglagyára, étterme van), de főleg nyakló nélkül vedel és prágai kurvákat hajkurászik. A falubeli szesztestvérekkel is hamar megváltozik a viszonya: igyekszik a kedvükben járni, drága fővárosi lokálokba és kuplerájokba hurcolja őket, az egyiket még orrnagyobbító műtétre (!) is befizeti egy klinikán, de ők egyre nehezebben viselik Bohus újkeletű arroganciáját. A nők persze a kegyeit keresik, majd besértődnek, gátlástalanul kihasználják, végül — ahogy apad a pénztárca — elhagyják.

Bohuska az újgazdag kelet-európai tapló prototípusa. A számos magyar példától csupán annyiban különbözik, hogy nem sefteléssel, privatizációs ügyletekkel, kárpótlási jegyekkel vagy olajszőkítéssel szerezte a vagyonát, de a jelenség ugyanaz. Ész nélkül szórja a pénzt az általa elképzelt “luxus” kellékeire: a düledező ház kertjébe medencét épít (amit aztán a helyi tűzoltók rozsdás, állott vízzel töltenek fel), s a tyúkok mellé struccot vásárol, mert olyat még nem láttak arrafele. Végső szeretetrohamában körhintát vesz a falunak, de már hiába: kiderül, a pénz mégsem őt illeti, és rekordgyorsasággal visszasüllyed oda, ahonnan érkezett. Illetve mégsem, hiszen az ivócimborák nem felejtenek, hősünk magára marad. 

A film legerősebb pillanatai szerintem azok a vígjátéki jelenetek, amik miatt a Macskajajhoz szokták hasonlítani a filmet (ami azért túlzás); azok, ahol előtérbe kerül a tanulság, a “mondanivaló” (kiráz a hideg ettől a szótól), ill. a kicsit didaktikus, szürreáliába hajló vég már nem annyira jött be. 

Reviczky Gábor fád szinkronhangja külön öröm (”Mi ez itt, szalonna?” ). A tízes skálán 7,5 pontot adok rá, és küldöm mindenkinek, aki szereti.

Jane is always a bridesmaid and never a bride, putting aside her own happiness for others on their wedding day, and things go completely awry when her sister asks for help planning a wedding to the man Jane’s secretly in love with.

Jane’s a very very nice lady. Far too nice for her own good actually. She secretly loves her boss, and her sister just stole him and expects Jane to put on her wedding in 3 weeks. At one of the many weddings Jane organizes, she meets Kevin, a jaded newspaper reporter who is actually a writer for the weddings section that Jane very much admires. Of course nothing would do but for the two of them to instantly dislike eachother, or so they claim. Things continue on their merry way as Jane is overlooked everywhere, unless she forgets something for the wedding plans. Tess, Jane’s sister, gets given their mothers wedding dress for her big day, much to Jane’s dismay. And when Tess cuts up the dress to fit her and offers the few leftover pieces to Jane as a consolation, that is apparently the last flowery nosegay ground beneath uncaring dress shoes: Jane finally snaps.

It’s not much of a snap, as far as romantic comedies go, but rest assured, everything ends up at the end the way it should be. Of course we know that would never happen in real life, but its still fun to watch!

The 27 Bridesmaid dresses is a cute gimmick for a movie plot, and one most movie fans will happily laugh and cry with.

Parece que WordPress.com ya está realizando las primeras preubas de WordPress 2.7 con nosotros. Acababa yo de escribir el post anterior cuando, durante un breve periodo de tiempo, he podido ver la nueva versión en mi DashBoard, aunque incompleta, ya que los tiempos de carga se saturaron y me impidieron probarla. Pero yo ya he visto un pequeño bosquejo de lo que se viene encima. Me gusta bastante. WordPress.com ya ha vuelto a cargar la v2.6. La v2.7 ha estado de una forma rápida, lo suficiente para las primeras pruebas del equipo de WordPress. Lástima

Eu unul zic că este adevărat, dar nici nu vreau să vă informez greşit. Băieţii de la WordPress, au zis acuma mult timp că WordPress 2.7 v-a fi lansat pe 10 Noiembrie dar, astăzi am aflat cu stupoare de la Aud În Ceaţă că de abea peste 2 săptămâni, deci mai avem de aşteptat mult şi bine, până în Decembrie o să apară el, o să fie ca un cadou de Crăciun.

Mă rog, să terminăm cu vrăjeala. De ce nu apare ? Deoarece au mai fost găsite alte o grămadă de buguri, a fost făcut ca, să se vadă mai bine în Internet Explorer, să fie compatibil cu nişte reguli de rewrite, bla bla, nu prea mă ştiu eu cu denastea. Au mai primit o grămadă de feedback de la utilizatori despre cum ar fi mai fain să arate, şi astfel, ei o să modifice, din cauza asta au lăsat-o pe altă dată.

Eu nu mă supăr, dar chiar vream să văd şi eu cum arată WordPress 2.7 ( chiar dacă am văzut nişte screenshoturi ) eu vroiam să-l văd aici pe blog la mine, MÂINE!

Mă gândesc că în curând va apărea WordPress 2.7 Beta 3. ( fuck it ), eu vreau WordPress 2.7. Nu ştiu, mie o ciudă, dar în felul meu sunt calm, weird. .

10 Terremoto entre Michoacán y Chiapas

Entre los estudiosos de la geología mexicana y tras largas décadas de estudios se ha extrapolado que un terremoto de magnitud mayor a los 8.5 grados en la escala Richter está por ocurrir dentro de los siguientes 50 años o mucho menos, es solo cuestión de tiempo. 5 Terremoto en Ciudad de México

1985 quedó marcado por la población que vivía en ciudad de México en ese entonces por un sismo de 8.1 grados en la escala de Richter el 19 de Septiembre de ese año, pero la alerta sigue vigente, se pronostica que un fuerte terremoto puede ocurrir en cualquier momento entre Guerrero y Michoacán que podría impactar a ciudad de México en los próximos años.

4 Calor Severo y Sequía

Las ondas de calor serán cada vez mas frecuentes, especialmente hacia el norte del país, lo que ocasionará sequías impresionantes que acabarán con la agricultura en zonas como las Baja Californias, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila y Nuevo León, donde se esperan escenarios severos para grandes ciudades como Hermosillo, Torreón y Monterrey con gigantescas tormentas de polvo y arena.

3 Inundaciones en la zona del Golfo

La realidad alcanzó al pronóstico de inundaciones en el Golfo de México, ocurrió en Octubre del 2007, en Tabasco México, más del 80 % de todo un estado, de una ciudad de 1 000 000 de habitantes, quedó prácticamente bajo el agua. ¿Cuál es la siguiente? Tampico, Coatzacoalcos ó Veracruz, lo sabremos durante las siguientes décadas.

2 Tsunami en Golfo de México y mar Caribe

Científicos tienen pruebas de una mortal falla que se encuentra en el mar caribe y se tienen datos precisos de tsunamis de gran tamaño que han ocurrido en el pasado. Si esta falla despierta, desaparecería la rivera Maya, Tabasco, Veracruz hasta la zona serrana y Tamaulipas de igual manera.

1 Fin del mundo

Podrá ser un meteoro, quizás una nueva enfermedad o una severa tormenta solar, no sabemos que escenario podría ocurrir, sin embargo los científicos creen que estamos siempre en un constante riesgo.

Today is the start of my D.Herbs Detox.  Should be interesting.  I actually broke down and bought a juicer.  This is an amazing fact to me, but I did get a great deal!  I’ve also got to go back to ONF to get more food.  I grossly underestimated how much fruit and veggies and nuts I’d need to do this per week.  The really great thing is that I get to cut down on food prep time.  Me likey!  I guess I better work in some exercise too LOL.

La nueva apariencia visual de la “DashBoard” es realmente vistoso y sencillo de usar, hecho a prueba de dummies. Y a mí lo que realmente me gusta es poder elegir los módulos que ves y su orden.

¡Esperamos que llegue pronto!

I have been excited about the upcoming release of the latest build of WordPress since the first survey and when they first officially announced it. After taking a look at this preview video, I really have to say that the anticipation was deserving.

The release will be just around the corner, and the development blog has posted this preview video (or trailer as they call it) to whet the appetite of ardent WordPress users.

I’m really looking forward to the new snazzy interface, especially the AJAX-ish drag-and-drop dashboard AND the post screen. The ability to moderate comments from the dashboard is especially godsent.

Can’t wait until it’s released this Monday!

Update (10/11/2008): It seems the update will come out late after all. In an update to the above post, the WordPress team stated that:

A note on timing: WordPress 2.7 was originally scheduled to be released on WordPress.org for download on November 10th. WordPress.com would have had it installed as soon as possible thereafter. However, the launch date has been delayed due to some additional complexity and our determination to test all the new features with current users before releasing the updated software. 2.7 is expected to be released on WordPress.org by the end of November. We may be able to bring 2.7 to WordPress.com blogs slightly before the official launch date, but for now, no dates have been finalized. When we have a fixed date, we will announce it on this blog, so you all will have plenty of notice of the upcoming change.
