So I’m staying up late/early Thursday night working math problems left and right to prepare for the test on Friday. Figuring it might help to know if I am getting the right answers I flip to the back of the textbook and see this…..

Use the examples as guidance? Use the examples as guidance!?!?!?! This is NOT what I wanted to read at 2:00 a.m. and just wanted to know if I was doing the stinkin’ problem correctly. For about 3/4 of the answers instead of even going to the effort of putting a number there was a “Refer to example **********” URGLESNAPS!!!!!!!!!”
I could understand if only had the answers were there if we did them for homework or something, but we don’t and there aren’t even a fourth. The guy who wrote the book actually works at Louisiana Tech and substituted for my math professor one day. I was not impressed with either his lecturing skills or his textbook writing as neither explain very much in anything resembling a clear manner. If I turned in the same amount of work on my test as he showed in his examples I would plain out fail simply for lack of work shown. Needless to say I am not I giant fan of Professor Schroder…….UGH!!!!!!!!!

Whew, I feel better. After two major tests on Thursday and Friday I decided to take a break from just about everything over the weekend, including blogging and major facebooking. Since I needed an extreme de-stressing (And general absence of numbers or formulas of any sort!) my weekend consisted of hanging out with friends and reading. I managed to make it through Lloyd Alexander’s Prydain Chronicles (My absolute favorite books of all time possibly), “Saga”, and half of Stephen Lawhead’s “Hood”. It was only after reading all these I remembered that I needed to read a book by Elizabeth Berg as I’d promised a friend I would. Right now I’m a couple of chapters into her “The Art Of Mending” and while the style’s different from what I’m used to it seems pretty good so far.
Of course my teachers decided not to use the Blackboard system the school has for them to upload grades. So I had to wait until today to find out my Math 240 grade and tomorrow to see what I made on my Engineering 120 exam. Definitely relieved on the math part, I made a ‘B’. Yes, I really wanted an ‘A’ but trust me, I’ll live with a ‘B’. I’m not too worried about Engineering, but am a bit anxious to hurry up and know my score. Anyway I think this week should be MUCH better since I only have a Psych test and I could do that class in my sleep.

I have two major tests on Thursday and Friday . So I doubt my blog will be getting many updates until I’m finished taking them. Since I’ve GOT to do well on the Engineering and Math tests I officially have no life until they are over. Especially since some brilliant person in administration decided we should only have TWO tests the entire quarter plus a final. In other words, if you do badly on one test you might as well prepare to retake the class. Ugh, not what I want to do. So just in case anyone wonders about my lack of blogging for right now that’s why. Hope everyone else has a much less stressful week than mine!

The collective “technological imaginary” is the idealistic driving force of the internet. I think that the rhetoric adopted for the narrative about new media and the internet is woven with phrases like “global village,” and “collective brain.” The unspoken insinuations about the internet when it first arrived was that it could be a virtual meeting place for people where you could live out your ideals and have infinite accessibility to other people around the world. The post structuralist idea that the discourse or language dictates our reality makes some sense. I don’t think that it dictates our reality as much as it shapes and guides it.

Einstein ounce said something to the effect of “Sunday Newspapers have replaced sermons,” according to David Crowely of History of Communications. This is to say that communication with our neighbors and commmunity members used to be neccassary and the effect of that was the bonding of communities. Now in a digital age where people commute to work, shop and larger corporate owned faceless stores, there is a void in the individual that is being filled. Somewhere in these reading it said that the new media is merely finding a different avenue to fullfill the needs that the previous media was fulfilling. I think that this is illustrated by the social networking site like facebook, myspace, and twitter. Not only those but through instant messengers and other sites, we are all looking for connections.

Instead of being a Mass Audience we seem to be more individualized. The former mass media is having trouble tailoring it’s programming to giant monolithic demographic blocks. Hence the rise of Niche-Casting, web casting/Podcasting. We are witnessing a revolution in niche targeted programming, coupled with the drop in price to produce/host such content and the accessibility factor, old media is being forced to rethink it’s delivery system. The early adopters have shifted and now the masses are beginning to become engaged in cyber space. Be it youtube and consumer based content or Hulu.com which is forced to provide add supported “free” content. The web has democratized media in a way previously unthinkable. The rush to monotize this is well underway with newly found Goliath’s like Apple’s iTunes online store that is the biggest Music seller in the world.

I think that the world is essentially the same on the web as in real life. Though people may behave differently there are still authentic people as well as trolls. I don’t believe the net offers a utopia but it does democratize our media in a new way. Do you think it offers a Utopian underpinning to our lives? Also do you feel that the internet has made information more accessible to people? If so how do you think it will change society?

I think it does offer a bit of a level playing field. Things like the Guttenberg press online and Google books allow for all people, no matter their country or language, to access materials from the finest libraries of our world. It will continue to hasten globalization and allow intense competition.

As discussed in Lister’s book New Media a critical introduction, we see that the gap between the producers of media content and consumers is shrinking. This is partly due to globalization and technological breakthroughs that enabled the traditional consumers to become producers of media as well. In the book they used an example of a digital video camera, which now can be bought for roughly $3,500, can be used to capture footage that is better than traditional broadcast standards and thus acceptable for T.V. and net distribution.

My personal experience as a Digital Media Lab Advisor for Loyola and a enthusiastic digital video producer has lead me to believe that with one lap top, one $700 camera, and a good idea you can produce content that rivals the travel channel and many others. I personally think that these digital art forms will be revolutionized in years to come because of this accessibility and the fact that it’s free so to speak. Years ago if you wanted to film something you had to plan it out and in many cases the most fleeting, interesting, passionate ideas get over thought and underinvested until they become nothing. Now we can act and record for free with $3 MiniDV tapes and compact flash cards that can be reused after you’ve copied the video from them.

In a way I agree with Lister’s idea that this so called “new media” is really just old media refashioned and trasmitted differently to the people. I agree with the fact that video and audio existed before this but what he fails to mention is that many inventions are merely refashioned older ideas. That doesn’t negate the fact that they are themselves new inventions. I agree with McLuhan when he said that “it’s the medium not the message.” It’s not the video/audio or page viewing that’s new, it’s how we use them.

Yes, I know it has been a week since I updated. I really haven’t been lazy though! This week was quite busy. I’d elaborate but I need to study for my Math 240 AND Psychology 102 tests which are BOTH on Monday morning. Joy!

Anyway I will be posting again after my tests. Have been taking pictures and made several good stories Please pray for the connections between my neurons (which are made of dendrites and axon terminals communicating through synapses) to be able to fire electrical impulses reliably while covered in a myelin sheath (which is composed of fatty glial cells), the neurotransmitters to fire out enough endorphins so that I won’t need any agonists, and my Limbic system along with other higher level brain structures such as my amygdala and hippocampus will perform superbly. (There’s my two hours of studying Chapter 2: Neuroscience speaking). Thanks!

I put off XHTML-izing my resume because I was a bit intimidated by the X part of XHTML.  It wasn’t that I thought I couldn’t learn it; I was worried that I’d revert to old HTML habits from 5+ years ago.  That turned out not to be a problem, unless I’ve missed something glaring.  Instead, it’s my RSS widget that’s defeated me.

When I added it, per the assignment directions, I thought of all the sites I check when I remember, and all the RSS links I’ve been ignoring for however long it’s been.   Here, I thought, was my nudge in the direction of learning how this RSS stuff works, and now I’ll finally remember to read Neil Gaiman’s blog more than once a month!

That’s what I thought. What really happened was that I was completely unable to figure the widget out.  I need to… have some RSS aggregator elsewhere?  Maybe I need to assimilate a bit further into the Google collective, since they seem to offer an RSS reader alongside my email?  The assignment didn’t say we had to have all our widgets functional and useful, just that they should be added.  But then again, it doesn’t show on my sidebar right now.  I know this must not be as hard as it seems - the name stands for Really Simple Syndication, for heaven’s sake - but I’m thoroughly confused right now.

If you have a video card of intel and you have hardy, then you know the driver is 2.2.2. So what? The fact is that after this it left two other versions, 2.3, and recently, 2.4.0.

Especially this latest version brings with it new Mouth-watering offer, including support for the new chipset graphic series 4 (including the x4500 igp), performance improved, especially with regard to the exa, a lot of bug fixes, and more.

After several experiments are able to make perfectly stable and run (so I hope) the deb package of new drivers for video cards of intel for ubuntu hardy heron, both in i386 release that amd64 (for the series work for you).

As always found the package in my repository, or if you prefer, you can download it directly from here: if you ubuntu 32bit download the package deb 386, if you have 64-bit, download the one for amd64 (so it is logical, but no one knows ever).

Of course if you find something wrong and/or found bugs, write below.

Se avete una scheda video della intel ed avete hardy, allora avrete la versione dei driver ferma alla 2.2.2. E allora? Il fatto è che dopo questa ne sono uscite altre due versioni, la 2.3, e recentemente, la 2.4.0.

Specialmente quest’ultima versione porta con sé golose novità, tra cui il supporto al nuovo chipset grafico della serie 4 (tra cui la x4500 igp), performance migliorate, soprattutto per quanto riguarda l’exa, un bel po’ di bug fixes, ed altro ancora.

Se volete il changelog completo, guardate qui (in inglese) l’annuncio ufficiale.

Dopo vari esperimenti sono riuscito a rendere perfettamente stabile e funzioante il pacchetto deb dei nuovi driver per le schede video della intel per ubuntu hardy heron, sia in versione i386 che amd64 (per la serie lavoriamo per voi).

Come sempre trovate il pacchetto nei miei repository, o se preferite potete scaricarlo direttamente da qui: se avete ubuntu a 32bit scaricate il pacchetto deb 386, se lo avete a 64 bit, scaricate quello per amd64 (so che è logico, ma non si sa mai ).

Ovviamente se trovate che qualcosa non va e/o trovate bug, scrivete qui sotto.

Vorrei ringraziare particolarmente Hotteterre che si è prestato a farmi da cavia dandomi feedback veloci e precisi, senza di lui non avreste i nuovi driver.

Non avendo nulla da fare in questo periodo mi sono messo a compilare i nuovissimi driver linux per le schede intel, che hanno raggiunto la versione 2.4.0.

Non avendo però una scheda intel (ho una ati) non posso testare se questi funzionino correttamente, quindi cerco volontari, con un minimo d’esperienza, che testino se fungono o meno.

Ovviamente finché non avrò qualche feedback sconsiglio chi non ha il pelo sullo stomaco di installarli, poiché potrebbero rendere instabile il sistema e/o causare la manifestazione alle vostre spalle di Satana. Quindi aspetto vostre nuove.

Questa nuova verione porta belle novità:

Sony Computer Entertainment ha comunicado que todas las cónsolas afectadas por el firmware 2.40, serán reaparadas o cambiadas gratuitamente. La compañía explica que siempre está detrás de sus productos y que trabaja para ofrecer la mejor experiencia al consumidor.

One of the most requested features to come with In-Game XMB was Voice Chat. However when 2.40 arrived, many people were disappointed to hear that it wouldn’t be featured with the update. Sony will deliver this addition sometime later this year, however they also hope to go one step further: In-Game Video Chat. And we’re not just talking about video chatting while you have the game paused. According to an inside source, In-Game Video Chat will enable you to video chat with a friend while actually playing your game. It will work in a similar fashion to BD-Live where there is a PiP (Picture in Picture) window in the top right corner of the screen so you can see your friend(s) while you chat with them. It’s unclear when exactly this will arrive but it should come via firmware update by the end of this year.

The new update has been released and is ready for you to download. This update is to fix all the issue’s we had when 2.40 was release last week. Also the trophies look a little diffrerent.

Tras muchos meses de espera, y tras la inesperada retirada de la actualización 2.40 por un problema con algunos usuarios que eran incapaces de visualizar su XMB tras su instalación, Sony ha lanzado hoy la tan ansiada actualización 2.41 que, como todos ya sabréis, ofrece algunas de las características más demandadas por los jugadores, como el acceso a XMB (XrossMediaBar), con el que los jugadores podrán acceder al menú de PS3 en cualquier momento; y la inclusión de los llamados trofeos, que reconoce los logros de los jugadores en la arena online. Esta nueva actualización 2.41 arregla todos los problemas surgidos con la versión 2.40, manteniendo su contenido original.

If you’re one of the many that were unable to get the 2.40 update, or got the update but were unable to download the 4.00 patch for Super Stardust HD, you are likely wondering when Sony will be releasing the patch for the removed firmware update. According to CVG, the update will be released “midweek” or Wednesday according to some other sites. Hopefully this ends up being true and you will be able to get those trophies and send in-game messages soon.

Remember that this is all a rumor until this is confirmed by Sony via the official blog or some other press release.

Czy n(w)asze zarzuty wobec firmware 2.40 są uzasadnione? Mam dość przeglądania for i czytania postów typu: “Nie mam zamiaru ściągać tego badziewia! Prawie wszyscy mają problemy z konsolami po ściągnięciu tego softu!”. Czy to prawda? Nie! To jedno wielkie kłamstwo. Na PollCode została stworzona ankieta dotycząca problemów z softem 2.40. Jak widać prawie 70% głosujących nie miało jakichkolwiek problemów z nowym softem Sony! 8% miało kilka drobnych problemów a zaledwie 2% głosujących miało problemy z fw 2.40. Zagłosuj i sprawdź, na co głosowali inni: TUTAJ

Mam nadzieję, że wreszcie się zamkniecie i przestaniecie pisać głupoty na temat firmware 2.40, to prawda kilka osób miało z nim problemy ale napewno nie większość użytkowników.
