Sony has just released a firmware update for the PS3 that supposedly improves the stability of some of the games. When gamers got word their minds drifted immediately to the supposed issues that GTA4 has had on the PS3 console. Unfortunately word has it that the update does not affect GTA4 whatsoever. Once more information is available, we will bring it to you.

According to Sony:

[We] just want to clarify that this upcoming firmware update isn’t related to GTA IV. For those of you who may still have an issue playing the game on your PS3, we have identified a solution that should resolve the issue. You can contact SCEA Consumer Services for support…

So to dumb it down, this update won’t fix issues with GTA4 but there is a solution. Personally I have never had a problem with GTA4 on my PS3 but one of my buddies have so the game is not 100% faulty.

Today the PS3 Firmware 2.35 was released and is now available for download. Sony claims it was released to fix problems of certain PS3 titles. Most likely to fix GTA IV. I know a better way to ix this problem though: TRADE IN YOUR PS3 AND BUY A 360!

La actualización, segun la web oficial, parece que se limita a mejorar la estabilidad de algunos contenidos. Mucho se habia hablado en los foros consoleros esta ultima semana de una posible actualización del sistema que pusiera fin a los problemas experimentados por los usuarios de GTA IV en el online. Quizas esta actualización, junto al parche del juego salido ayer, seán la respuesta por parte de Sony y Rockstar.

I hope that you commuters got to your destination as planned today because the TTC Strike is finally over. It was a hectic weekend for all of us, including myself. Everyone has got little notice that a strike was imminent. Most people have to find other ways to navigate around the City of Toronto. The good thing is that the traffic wasn’t that too busy. If I strike were to drag on towards the weekday, it could have been fatal. The provincial government had introduced back-to-work legislation (known as the Toronto Public Transit Service Resumption Act) and it only took at least half an hour to get it passed into law. You can just thank Dalton McGunity (and all the members of provincial parliament (MPPs for short) ) for their heroic actions. Every MPP has their own voice.

As for the deal, it’s now dead. The deal now goes into “arbitration” as far as I know. I want to thank all of you people for keeping up to date on what I had posted during the hectic weekend. After an intense debate for half-an-hour on a rare Sunday afternoon session at Queen’s Park, the provincial government has passed a piece of legislation that made the TTC strike illegal. All MPPs (Members of Provincial Parliament) were dispatched to Queen’s Park on a historic moment. The new legislation, known as the “Toronto Public Transit Service Resumption Act” has received royal assent and tonight, all TTC operators are ordered back to work as early as tonight. This is from the TTC’s website:

“With the passage of back-to-work legislation today at Queen’s Park, the Toronto Transit Commission is pleased to announce that service will resume later on Sunday April 27, with full rush-hour service running Monday morning, April 28.

The TTC has contacted all of its employees. Those who were scheduled for a shift this afternoon are being asked to report to work. It will take the TTC approximately three to four hours to bring the service up to safe, normal operating standards. The TTC has every faith that the women and men who move this city will do so with professionalism.

Some customers may experience delays early in the process of restoring service. The TTC acknowledges the frustration and inconvenience everyone has faced since Friday evening, and is working hard to restore service as quickly as possible. The TTC also requests the public to please remember that TTC employees have a right to be treated with dignity. The TTC’s chief concern is safety – both for its customers and its workers.”

This is what Premier Dalton Mcguinty quote:

“I ask that upon restoration of TTC services, users extend their usual courtesy to workers there for the invaluable they provide, Courtesy and goodwill are the foundations upon which we should all seek to build.”

Provincial labour minister Brad Duguid has his say about the lifeblood and the “Heart” of the TTC:

“We encourage the TTC and its unions to continue bargaining and to reach mutually acceptable agreements, At the same time, we cannot stand by while the dispute shuts down the vital transportation system in Toronto, affecting millions of people and businesses.”

Riders in the big city can breathe a big sigh of relief as the strike is almost fading away. If you are visiting or living in Toronto and realize that the strike is going on for long, but right now the riders have to worry about is - their patience. So i’m asking you this, “where were you and what you (or your friends) were doing before the transit strike hits Toronto?”

Here’s my follow up about the possible TTC Strike.

Global News has arranged a “Free Ride Bus” for stranded passengers getting their way to their destination (only if the bus is equipped with a GPS system). Keep on a lookout for that bus in the Downtown Core.

Carpooling options: many third party providers are offering some carpooling services. The providers are listed as follows:

• Carpool Zone
  
• eRideShare
• Smart Commute

Cycling is also an option to commute around the City. Many reserved (HOV) lanes around major thorough fares are all open for cars with three or more persons. Reserved lanes around the Highway 403 and 404 corridor are all open for cars with two or more persons. If you are caught using the lanes as a solo driver, the OPP will definitely stop you and issue you a $110CDN ticket and three demerit points on your license.

Many neighbouring transit commissions and GO transit have posted their own contingency plans regarding the strike. Details can be founded on my last blog posting. Right now as I speak, the 4:00p.m. (Eastern Time) deadline has passed. I’ll keep you guys posted for further details (but with my exams starting tomorrow, I’ll try my best to keep plugged in).

Many media outlets (such as the CBC, Global TV, CityTV, CP24, CHFI 98.1FM, Mix 99.9FM, 92.5 JACK FM, Newstalk 1010 CFRB, 680 News, CBC Radio One 99.1FM and many others) are going to be on the air as early as 5a.m. tomorrow morning. Hold on to your breath, guys. It’s going to be a bumpy ride. As the note mentioned on Marianas Trench’s music video, “Decided to Break It”:

After intense negotiations between the TTC and their union ATU local 113, it seems that they have finally plotted a legal strike position: starting on Monday morning.

Amalgamated Transit Union local 113 president Bob Kinnear told in a press conference that all of his members are prepared to walk off the job by Monday if something does not get settled by Sunday Afternoon. Then the ripple effect will happen, leaving many people trying to find ways on how to get around Toronto. With the majority of riders are college/university students preparing to write their exams, it seems that they have to live against the odds.

“If no such offer is forthcoming, we will begin to notify our members not to show up for their scheduled shifts,…We are giving nearly twice as much time because we know the mayor is in China and we want to give him some time to step into this situation and do what is fair. There is still time for the mayor to stop this action.”

The union had promised that 48 hours will be given to all passengers. GO Transit has written up a contingency plan but their system is operating way beyond capacity. Feeder transit systems such as Mississauga, Brampton, York Region and Durham Region has yet to provide some plans, but they are often similar to GO’s. Back to the TTC, the ATU local 113 are not the only unions to go on strike. CUPE Local 2, representing the 500 signal and electrican workers are trying to negotiate with the TTC as well. Another union, the IAMDL local 235 are on the same bucket as CUPE and the ATU. It’s sheer ultimatium going on in the round of negotiations.

(don’t try to) Hold on to your breath. You may never know if they will succeed or not….Stay tuned for further updates…

Well, after spending some time that Rob Ford had distanced himself about his racial remark, he deliberately and silently apologizes to the Asian people about his racy remark. Councillor Rob Ford, the controversial city councillor who believed that he considered Asian people “Orientals” has finally stepped up to his plate and announce a very long statement. However, not everyone got his attention.

Another city councilor has tried to “lure” Rob Ford on making his statement, and it finally did. In a broad step to make him forcibly apologize, council decided to vote in a 33 to 8 decision to make him do so.

Here is his statement:

“Mr. Lee wants to know [why] Oriental studies is okay, but not Oriental people, Someone please explain. Welcome to the faculty of Oriental studies at Oxford University, the school of Oriental and African studies at the University of London, and one of my Asian constituents brought this to my attention over the weekend, at No Frills, they’re advertising Oriental flavour, 100 per cent pure corn starch.

“Asian people do work very hard, and are very, very aggressive,” he started a second time. “If I have offended anyone in the Asian community, I will proudly retract my statements.”

It was a terrible blow - well sort of for the city councilor and it seems that it really shocked him big time. He could have faced the boot that former Liberal MP Carolyn Parrish had made a statement about George W. Bush and stomping on a voodoo doll of him, causing a stirrup and a controversy among MPs - especially the Conservatives. In the end, she was completely kicked out of the Liberal caucus and now serves as a City Councillor in Toronto’s neighbouring city, Mississauga.

Either way, it was a horrific chain of events that lasted for some time. Perhaps Councillor Ford has caught my attention with the last blog posting I did about him and how I compared him to John Baird.

Changing gears, it seems that there will be no TTC strike - at least for now. However, two other unions have decided to vote in favour of a legal strike positition. CUPE Local 2 and the The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local Lodge 235 are planning to walk off the job as of tonight. The unions will announce a strike within 48 hours notice following the ATU’s footsteps. The CUPE union is making progress cautiously and they are really optimistic that their progress is going on as planned. Either way, it’ll be some time until an agreement can be reached.

As for the Asians who were traumatized by Rob Ford’s remark and his apology, not everyone is impressed by his apologetic remark, but the Asians said “HALLELUJAH!”. Their prayers have been answered.

Nasci em Triunfo - RS. Não tenho nada contra, pra falar a verdade. Mas não tenho vínculo algum com esta cidade. Minha mãe apenas foi me ganhar no hospital de lá porque o médico que atendia ela, só fazia parto lá. Fui registrada lá também, tudo no mesmo lugar.

Mas eu costumo brincar que tudo foi errado. Minha cidade natal mesmo é Porto Alegre. Me sinto como se tivesse nascido lá. Minha paixão por esta cidade é tamanha, que me emociono ao ver propagandas e reportagens sobre a cidade. sabato tranquillo, canonico, un po’ banale forse ma banalmente alcolico. nota positiva : il fatto di essere riuscito a scrivere fino a quì è prova del fatto che ho sconfitto il virus contro il quale ho lottato tutta oggi pomeriggio, capace di impallarmi e riavviarmi il computer un po’ quando voleva lui. caffè al ginseng e nuovo cd della Turbojugend hanno reso la vittoria possibile.

Cristo a quest’ora sono molte le cose che verrebbe da scrivere su questo dannato blog. E altrettante sono quelle che sarebbe bene non scrivere. Stranamente questo diario online assume un morboso fascino passato il cambio di data… sarà il sonno, il rincretinimento e un discreto quantitativo di alcool sufficiente da rendermi capace di guidare, ma incapace di farmi andare dritto a letto…

vorrei che domani fosse fra un mese, e che fra un mese fosse fra un anno. mi piace la mia vita, mi reputo persona fortunata, ma mi conosco anche come persona curiosa e vorrei che ciò che sto vivendo fosse un libro per poter scorrere le pagine e andare dritto al finale. No non sono persona che ama le sorprese. E no, non sono una persona a cui piace aspettare.

E’ sempre bello assistere alla prima esagerazione di alcool di una persona. Se questa persona è il fratellino minore (annata ‘92) del proprio migliore amico è ancora meglio. Se questo fratellino decide di evacuare la cena nel mezzo di un locale, però, è male.
