یک دادگاه در مالزی روز جمعه دستور آزادی یکی از شناخته شده ترین بلاگرهای دادگاهی در مالزی را که دولت او را به اتهام تهدید امنیت ملی حبس کرده بود، صادر کرد. انتظار می رود، رجا پترا کامارودین که در 12 سپتامبر دستگیر شده بود و بدون دادگاه حبس شده بود، روز جمعه آینده آزاد شود. وکلا شکایت کرده بودند که قدرت طلبان دولت مالزی، امنیت ملی کشور را وسیله ای بر ضد مخالفان قرار داده اند. این قانون اجازه حبس بی مدت بدون دادگاه را می دهد.
رجا پترا که یکی از منتقدان سرسخت دولت فعلی است، برای نوشته هایی که در وبلاگش پست کرده بود، حبس شد که از نظر دولت به مسلمانان و حضرت محمد، توهین کرده است. او همچنین متهم شده است، مقاله ای پست کرده که رهبران کشور را بدنام می کند و دشمنی علیه دولت را ترویج می کند. دادگاه رأی داد این دلایل برای حبس تحت عنوان امنیت ملی کافی نیستند. دولت می تواند به رأی اعتراض کند ولی قاضی سید احمد حلمی سید احمد، دستور داده تا رجا پترا فوراً آزاد شود.

رجا پترا 58 ساله منتقد نجیب رازک، معاون نخست وزیر است. کسی که در اوایل سال گذشته نخست وزیر شده بود. در میان دیگر اتهامات رجا پترا عبارات تهمت آمیز است که همسر نجیب در قتل یک زن مغول که معشوقه یکی از تیمساران نجیب بوده، دست داشته است.
قانون امنیت ملی یکی از بیش از یک دوجین قانونی است که سیاسیون مخالف و وکلا در کشور از آن به قوانین سخت و بیمورد یاد می کنند. وقتی این قانون در 1960 وضع شد، دولت گفت از آن برای حفاظت مردم از خطر کمونیستها استفاده می شود. تامی توماس یک وکیل سرشناس حقوق بشر مالزیایی تخمین زده است که بیش از 20.000 نفر بنا به دلایل مختلف که هیچ کدام هیچ ربطی به خطر کمونیستها ندارد، تحت این قانون زندانی اند.

Sergio salta en Ballaugh Bridge, uno de los puntos míticos del TT de la Isla de Man.

Una de nuestras mejores fotos en el número de este mes es ésta, con Sergio saltando en Ballaugh Bridge, nada menos que en el TT de la Isla de Man, última etapa de la serie de artículos que hemos hecho corriendo en las más famosas road races de las Islas Británicas, El año que corrimos peligrosamente. Como te puedes imaginar, saltar a toda velocidad tiene su técnica, algo que Sergio te explica en el artículo perfectamente:

Si entra algo de aire, la moto se mueve mucho y eso a 250 km/h y con las dos ruedas sin tocar el suelo te puedes imaginar que no da muy buen rollo. Al llegar a esos rasantes hay que aguantar la respiración, sujetar fuerte el manillar, meter la cabeza detrás de la cúpula, agarrarse con las piernas al depósito y no cortar. Apuntas recto y “sssshhhhhmmmm”, saltas con una inercia que no te imaginas. A veces da un poco de miedo, pero al final es mejor llegar con gas y saltar que hacer un caballito porque cortas en el último momento y entonces la moto se descoloca. Ésa es otra de las normas que he aprendido este año, no hay que dejar de acelerar en ningún rasante. Si lo haces el aterrizaje sobre la rueda delantera es más complicado…

A good first impression goes a long way, but when is shaking hands and handing out hugs too much?

“Pepe, dear?”

Mum always had the worst nicknames for me.

“You need to meet more people. When I was your age I used to have many young suitors hanging off my arm. “

Appalled, I turned to her. “You mean you want me to be promiscuous?”

“Well, not precisely, but you deserve a nice young man.”

“They aren’t smart enough for me, Mum.”

“But they do make such great eye candy.”

“Mother!”

Although Mum made an excellent point –men ‘can’ make great eye candy– I have to wonder to what extent of meeting new people should one go; especially those of us that are unknown. A hug to one person could differ from one to another and in turn create an unwanted situation or a really embarrassing scene. Although most are fairly friendly and interact a little enough to create a relationship basis, some may not want that random attention and will actually give you the Evil Eye.

Now, I have been living with Mum for a great many years, Papa left when I was very young, and an evil eye often resulted from doing something I was not allowed to do. –Mum was always far more social so I certainly didn’t learn propriety from her!– To receive an evil eye because I said hi and offered to shake someone’s hand was a reaction I had never expected, (Alright, perhaps I was a little more enthusiastic and outgoing than the average doe), but was it really necessary?

I then realized that the world wasn’t full of happy fluffy people. There are people out there just wanting to get ahead in life and if you are not far enough up the food chain then you don’t exist. It is a harsh reality but I suppose that’s Show Biz for you.

So when your interactions with fellow mates (Also known as friends or people. It is a term I picked up here in Aussie-land) grow short on the response bar, either message them or let them move on. After all, you are worth time and if they aren’t interested don’t force the issue. I mean, they’re the ones missing out.

The difficulties of a new band breaking into the established scene.

Everyone dreams of being #1 in their genre. Loved by all and with many hit songs; with an overload of invitations for performances all over the world; billions of cheering fans; sold out shows and trying to avoid the paparazzi by the dozen. I certainly wanted it all!

So I got this really nifty name for a band. I had been dreaming about if for so long and when I finally made the banner it hit me. We were going to be #1!

Skipping off to the book store I purchased Basic String Instruments and Basic Singing. Stoked I poured over the books well throughout the night. After nearly missing work a few times for sleeping in I decided to stretch my knowledge and bought Cello for Dummies. Skimming through that understanding the ever so bare minimum I felt that I was ready.

Oh, how wrong I was!

It was only the start of a heap of problems and hurdles that I never even dreamed of! After begging my boss at the club I worked at to let me have a set he asked me to play him something.

“Play something? Like, now?”

“No, next week. Yes, now. You can play can’t you?”

“Of course I can!” –So indignant!– “Where is the Cello?”

“We don’t have one.”

“Wha-?” What? You mean, I actually needed to buy a cello of my own? This concept had never occurred to me. So pushing passed it I then decided to try a new tactic. Promising I would bring one the next day he then promised to let me play two songs, just for practice, during the slower time. There was another girl, Jane, that could cover the bar and it was unpaid so no skin off his cheek, right?

I then bought a beautiful white cello with some money that I had saved away for a rainy day. Sure it wasn’t raining but it was a way of making more money (eventually) so it was an investment. Spending the rest of the night strumming a few tunes that I knew by heart from the radio I decided I wasn’t half bad. The basic string instruments book helped a lot and I felt very ready.

I headed into work and showed him my pretty unmarred and non-stickered Cello –I love stickers, but professionally I don’t want to appear tacky, right?– He nodded and pointed to the stage. I was getting really nervous at this point. This would be my first performance, and I wanted to be good! Setting myself up I looked over the little club. It was a little sparse but fewer people meant fewer butterflies. Strumming a few chords my boss came up to me with a confused look on his face.

“Where is your mic?”

“Mic?” –Confused!–

“You were suppose to bring your own microphone.”

“Wha-?”

My heart totally dropped as I stared at him with confounded disappointment.

Why doesn’t anyone ever tell me these things?!

The distinction between Does and Do’s.

Mother was very happy when I (finally) went out job hunting. For days I tried all those high paying jobs that they offered in the papers without any luck. After the abysmal failure at procuring a decent sales (or exotic dancing which I was looking at with wide envious eyes), I ended up settling at a nice little club as a bartender. I was just a walk-in off the street so no fancy-smancy raise for me.

What is a raise anyway? I must have spent the last year at all these different jobs without once seeing a jump in my paycheck. I am a hard worker and sure I scared babies at my short-term sales job (which I quit) but do you not think I am better then those lazy Does that seem to come by the dozen? Clearly it took a good year before I was able to gain this mythical ‘raise’. But what am I doing?

I’m a bartender surrounded by Does.

So how was it that I found my way from bartending, sales, construction, sales and then back to bartending at a noisy club. Why do I want to subject myself to such a lower paying position when by right I could gain rights to a CEO position in some company or simply start my own?

First of all, to start a company is silly expensive. Secondly, I ‘am’ waiting on a CEO position. So why go from a 3 400 AU$ paying job to a 3 100$ Job? And for that matter, all of you young whipper-snappers, why does anyone apply for anything less, or equal to, then what the Does receive? I nearly cried for my band-mate, Philip, when he took a 350$ job.

Why do that to yourselves?!

Then it dawned on me, as I finished filling out all the employment forms of my latest job, that the only way to get ‘ahead’ is to actually Talk to the CEO of said company. Jonnie is a very dear friend of mine and when she offered me a deal I couldn’t refuse while I wait on my CEO job I jumped on it. During her visit to Melbourne she heard countless times how I was trying to desperately to save money and my check always fell short. It was such a blessing when I got a surprise call from her with the offer. What is even better, for all my hard work she is going to even help me out with little bonus checks to help me out.

There really needs to be something said about actually conversing with the CEO. Jonnie will no doubt be a wonder to work for as I have always had the best communications with her, but also I’ll never lack in a stable income with tips.

Note to self: Always ask for the boss or you will always be ‘just another Doe’.

Mom always said I was a hopeless romantic but I never expected to help out the hopeless.

It all started out as a funny joke between Philip, Yolanda and myself. We all wandered into a book store giggling like virgin teens and pick out the Kama Sutra book. Thus proceeded a lot of blushing and jokes at each others expense as we flipped through the pages. Then the gaining of snuggling points became just a fun game. It always is in the beginning, isn’t it?

After a while I grew comfortable around Philip enough to invite him into the Band. We spend a lot of time jamming and even proceeded to kill each other with chocolate on Valentines Day. (Mostly my fault, really.) There were a bit of tears and a lot of laughter, but not once did we really sit down to decide if we wanted anything more out of our relationship.

A few weeks later a good friend of my, Maddy, jumps into the scene. She had a really rough start in London and after a bit of convincing she agreed to come join me in Melbourne. Instantly after meeting her face to face I wanted her in the band! I introduced her to Philip and I knew without a doubt that they would become great friends.

It was when I started noticing Philips eyes wander during Jamming sessions that I decided it was time to play a little matchmaker. Of course Maddy had no idea and she looked so happy strumming her guitar that I didn’t want to play the Obvious Bull. Instead I decided to ask him out on a date (this time making sure I have enough money in my pocked to cover the bill). Proceeding to inform him that although I liked him (He is so very sweet!), I thought that it would be better to settle ourselves more as band mates. I also told him what I thought of him and Maddy.

His face went so very red!!

The night ended on a good note, I paid the bill (only fair since I was the one to break up our ‘non-commital’ relationship) gave him a hug and went home. I felt pretty good about this because I knew that soon Philip will be courting Maddy and those two would be so lovely together.

It was not even two days before that that Ida Gallant came along chatting about how she seemed a little confused about men. Setting her down we had a nice discussion with had her feeling a little bit better. Jokingly I told her I was the ‘Love and Relationship Guru’. After a nice date with Yolanda, she told me about how awful Jimmy Sugden was for not being able to afford the bill (They even had to do the dishes!) that she was no longer too happy about their relationship.

Now, Jimmy has never done anything but Right by me, but it did put something into perspective. While I’m sure that Jimmy would make a great Husband or father, He wasn’t the one for Yolanda. She needed someone to take care of her not the other way around. I told her so, too.

Looking back on this week, I can’t help but admit that I feel better about it all. I love helping people and it was nice to know that even though I’m single with no marriage prospects, everyone else is happy. So, I really do not mind being the Love Guru. It just means that I’ll never lack in people to love and drama’s to solve!

Atunci cand le merge reteaua (pentru ca au fost zile in ultima luna cand le-a picat total pentru ore bune) cei de la Vodafone au un stil foarte imputit de a-si trata clientii. Exemplul 1: azi, am vrut sa incarc o cartela. Evident, cel mai comod este sa tastezi *144* codul de reincarcare # si sa apesi tasta de apel. Doar ca, in loc de mesajul care sa confirme ca a fost incarcat creditul, am primit unul care ma informa ca Vodafone a lansat nu-stiu-ce-pula-mea-nou serviciu. Aveam si variante: sa ma inregistrez pentru acest nou serviciu, sa nu ma inregistrez sau “indecis”. Evident, cum eu n-aveam chef de prostiile lor, nu m-am inregistrat, asteptand in continuare mesajul de confirmare… care n-a mai venit. Creditul era acelasi, cartela expira in cateva ore si eu nu puteam s-o reincarc, nici dupa inca doua incercari. Am sunat la serviciul lor de relatii cu clientii si fatuca de acolo mi-a zis ca, din cauza acelei promotii, “clientii intampina probleme”. Vai mersi, ai fost o adevarata scumpa, cum ti-ai dat seama de faza asta? Mi-a recomandat sa sun la 444 si sa introduc codul. Ceea ce am facut si, dupa ce de doua ori s-a intrerupt inainte sa apuc sa bag codul, a treia oara, dupa minute bune de enervare si injuraturi, am reusit. Ave eu! Muie Vodafone!

Exemplul 2: Suni la *222 ca sa ceri niste lamuriri. Ca doar d-aia se numeste “Relatii clientii”. Si incepe meniul. Si nu se mai termina. Tu vrei doar sa vorbesti cu un om de la ei, in speranta, utopica oarecum, ca ala va sti sa te lamureasca. Dar nuuuuuuuuuu. Pentru limba romana apasati tasta 1. N-am apucat sa vad ce alte limbi mai dadeau astia de la Vodafone, am apasat direct tasta 1. Dar ce… putea sa fie atat de usor? Pentru informatii legate de nu-stiu-ce oferte, apasati 1, pentru informatii legate de nu-stiu-ce servicii, apasati 2 si tot asa, pana pe la 6 cred. Dar de operator nu zice nimic. Tre sa intuiesti tu ca ideea e sa apesi la nimereala una din tastelea alea, ca sa te dea intr-un nou submeniu si poate acolo vei avea optiunea de a vorbi cu un operator. Nici asta nu e chiar treaba usoara, trebuie sa intuiesti care din submeniuri va fi mai scurt, incat sa iti spuna robotul optiunile repede. E exact cum era faza aia la Mario cand intrai in canal si ieseai mult mai departe pe plansa de joc. Buuuun, dupe ce-am apasat *222 si inca vreo 7 taste, imi spune ca apelul meu va fi preluat de un operator in 10 secunde. PULAAAAAAAAA! In loc de operator, se baga iar oferta cu serviciul nou lansat. Mai tastez o data *222, celelalte 7 cifre, nu stiu daca in aceeasi ordine si astept, aproape 2 minute, nicidecum 10 secunde. Si vorbesc. Cel putin copiii astia de la celalalt capat al firului (impropriu spus, din moment ce vorbim de telefonie mobila, dar nu mai folosisem de mult cliseul asta, mi se pare retro) sunt foarte amabili. Mi-i imaginez chiar zambitori. Au genul de voci care te calmeaza. Sunt amabili, de treaba, sunt exact ca vanzatoarele alea care te intreaba “cu ce va putem ajuta” si zambesc din prima clipa in care pasesti in magazinul lor. Cu ei n-am nimic, ei merg, pacat ca sefii lor isi bat joc de clienti. Meniul de la Vodafone este ingrozitor de stufos. Se numeste “Relatii cu clientii”, daca vor sa-si promoveze ofertele, s-o faca la final, oamenii care suna la *222 vor in general sa ceara niste lamuriri. Saaaaaaaaau, pentru oferte si promotii, sa faca in pula mea un numar separat la care sa raspunda robotul si la *222 sa te dea la operator, dupa ce intai iti face o triere in functie de limba si problema invocata. Dar atat, nu 7 taste.

Exemplul 3: Modul de facturare. Nici nu mai e nevoie sa intru in detalii. Cati oameni nu s-au trezit cu facturile umflate?

Exemplul 4: Mesajele pe care ni le trimit. Cartela asta pe care incercam s-o reincarc e a lu tata, eu am abonamentul de la serviciu si atat. Deci putin imi pasa de ofertele si promotiile lor. Dar totusi primesc zeci de mesaje pe aceasta tema. Vodafone ma informeaza ca… , Vodafone ma anunta cu bucurie ca… , Vodafone imi ureaza convorbiri usoare si placute si asa mai departe. Spam curat. Bataie de joc. Imi cer scuze fata de prietenii care lucreaza la Vodafone, dar adevarul e ca firma voastra, dincolo de amabilitatea asta de complezenta, nu prea e aproape de clienti. Ma mai gandesc la exemple si revin. Vodafone sucks!!!

Ahora ya está claro que han llegado los tiempos de crisis, y una estupenda forma de compatibilizar el ahorro con la diversión es dejar el coche en la tienda y empezar a pensar que, al menos la ciudad, es el territorio de la moto. No sólo vas a ahorrar combustible, vas a ganar tiempo en tus desplazamientos y en tus aparcamientos y vas a empezar a disfrutar de nuevo. Parece que salvo nuestro Director General de Tráfico todos piensan que la moto es una solución para mejorar la movilidad. Su último ataque, perpetrado por el Consejo de Ministros a instancias suyas es la subida del impuesto de matriculación, reduciendo las cantidades de CO₂ necesarias para reducir los tipos y penalizando a las motos de más de 100 CV con el impuesto máximo.
Se trata de medidas sin lógica fuera de su obtuso planteamiento que, como todos sabemos, es muy simple, eliminarnos. No sé si lo conseguirá, pero al menos no esperemos sentados que haga y deshaga a su antojo contra nuestros intereses. El día 8 de noviembre se ha convocado una manifestación nacional para que nuestra voz se nos oiga, que nuestros políticos sepan que existimos, que votamos y que no estamos dispuestos a que este individuo nos pase por encima una y otra vez.
Pero la vida sigue pese a todo, y buena prueba es que ya se han presentado las primeras novedades de 2009 con la R1 «Réplica Valentino» como primera estrella, abriendo una nueva generación de deportivas.
Este número es para nosotros también especial, porque publicamos la entrega final de nuestro Año que corrimos peligrosamente, una serie que nos ha acompañado durante casi una temporada y que llega a su fin. Pero si te ha gustado, no te preocupes, ya estamos planificando nuestra Idiotez 2009, y creo que será como mínimo tan divertida como correr en esas carreteras.
