Nu stiu daca m-a facut mama sau Dumnezeu asa, ori mi-au pus aia de la restaurant ceva dubios in mancarea de aseara, dar se pare ca ma bucur de un noroc fantastic. Si nici nu voi ca sa ma laud, nici ca voi sa va-nspaimant (pardon, asta era ceva eminescian), dar astazi am fost posesorul unei cantitati incomensurabile de material santieristic, moloz, flegme intelectuale si alte tractorisme de genul.

Din alura vecinicelor macarele, se pare ca nu suntem nici primii, nici singurii care se ocupa cu promovarea glumelor de santier. Videoul de mai jos flegmeaza extrem de estetic ideea de mai sus. Si asta cand santierul este de fapt un birou, iar macaragiul sef o arde pe la telefoane si pe messenger:

It got so bad that I just never came by!  We were busy, we were life, we were struggling, surviving, hoping and now, “I’m here!”

Hopefully, I’ll be back tomorrow.  How are you doing?  Last I checked, I was 220.

So, at the start of this post, it will have been OCTOBER, 25th, 2008…thus marking the date for the 23rd ANNUAL FRIENDSHIP GAMES at CAL STATE FULLERTON. Although this has nothing to do with the east coast dance scene entirely, it does have something to do with some of the very fortunate people of our east coast dance scene that have ventured for new life in the west. And if you know these people, then you probably will consider yourself lucky to have known such awesome people.

I write this in response to this year–of all the years I’ve attended since 2005–being the FIRST TIME that I have stayed behind in SLO and not attend FRIENDSHIP GAMES. Ironically, of all the years I go, my cultural club, P.C.E. S.L.O., has devised the ultimate win strategy for obtaining the prestigious eight-foot high SPUF (Spirit, Pride, Unity, and FRIENDSHIP) trophy this year. On top of that, IRONICALLY, the year that I don’t show up is the year that all my (and your) NJ friends (and NJ friends of NJ friends) that have Californiacated are going to be there: chanting for SPUF and dancing their first FGAMES performance as part of a California team.

To whom of our east coast dance scene–specifically the NJ scene–that have have Californiacated, this post goes out to you.

KRISTINA LATONIO! We’ve all known her as the awesomest FR3SH alumni that ventured west alongside of TJ. Well look at her now! This San Deezy Beezy a.k.a. San Diego Citizen is now proudly representin’ 220 (a.k.a Second to NONE)! Congrats to her for making to the team, and MAJOR props on winning MAJOR STREET DIVISION 1st place and MAJOR OVERALL DIVISION 2nd place at Jayvee Dance Center’s MAXT OUT 2008. We’re all proud of you KRISTINA — NJ ALL DAY!

DALLAS AUGUSTINE! This Funky FR3SH Alum is now reppin’ her new stride with Cal State Fullerton’s TEAM MILLENNIA as part of the new 2008-2009 competition team along with famous dance community names such as Austin Fernandez, David Yi, and Jonathan “Toybox” Bronner. If you guys didn’t know, TM is known for throwing the Prelude Dance Competition Series, have been featured on ABDC, and have won 1st place at VIBE this past year. This year will be Dallas’ FIRST TM performance at this year’s FRIENDSHIP GAMES! Make us proud, gorrl!

KARLO SORIA (pictured at far right)! This La Puente native, came to Jersey looking for dance (in addition to nursing) and found FR3SH. Surprisingly, his training has led him back to his homeland in California. Karlo Soria now dances with Cal Sate Long Beach’s (a.k.a. CSULB) very own PAC MODERN. Today at 12NOON (during half-time) Karlo Soria will be performing his first ever performance with PAC MODERN at his first EVER FRIENDSHIP GAMES. Have fun chanting “HELL NO FRIENDSHIP” and enjoying PAC tradition in good camaradie.

TJ dela Cruz?! He might be there today at FGAMES. From what I’ve been informed — correct me if im wrong– but he’s now happily dancing with LA’s RAGE. But for certain, the east coast misses you too!

And as for me, as I end this lengthy reflection on danceLIFE, I’ll be enjoying the rest of my last two years at Cal Poly SLO enjoying every moment I have ’til I start “real life” (beyond college). And taking workshops, and attending those prestigeous dance events everyone talks about! To everyone back home, you need to visit this wonderful state and experience this wonderful culture at LEAST ONCE. See if it doesn’t change your perception of living, and probably INSPIRE you to search for something better. In essence, I urge you, as dancer, to see yourself in a place where you CAN go…because when you visualize it, you’re one step closer to making it happen. It happened for Kristina Latonio, it happened for Dallas Augustine, it happened for Karlo Soria and TJ dela Cruz, it happened for Ed Escaro, as well as Steven Armendi and Jeff Laconico…it happened for FR3SH, and it’s about to happen for Project D. Reach as high as you can, because it’s all within reach.

Este martes 22 de Octubre salió a la venta el esperado tercer disco del grupo ruso t.A.T.u.
Después de “3 años de silencio”, el grupo regresa con material en ruso y en inglés, en su disco “Veselye Ulybki” / “Happy Smiles”. El álbum se puede conseguir a través de la tienda oficial de t.A.T.u. y claro, también por medio de iTunes.

Este disco es otro más que definitivamente no se pueden perder. En él, escucharán cómo ha madurado y evolucionado el estilo del grupo, sin perder el toque característico que lo llevó a la fama.

Entre muchas canciones interesantes, como el interlude de “Happy Smiles” (muy a la “Show Me Love”), y claro, lo singles que brillan también, “Fly on the Wall” me llama la atención, porque me hace pensar en cómo sonarían Julia y Lena cantando con Timbaland. Y honestamente, el resultado es sorprendente.

¿Qué esperan? Compren “Happy Smiles” ya, es un disco que no pueden dejar pasar.

I almost threw my ‘new’ Land Camera out the window today.

I finally got the batteries to work the shutter and after properly installing them, I promptly filled my camera’s hungry little belly with Fuji-100 instant film. I took a shot of three pumpkins in my backyard and went to pull the picture out of the side. No dice. It was stuck. Big Time! I pulled and pulled and pulled and only succeded in ripping tiny shreds of white paper from the tag of the film. I got tweezers, pliers (both flat and needle-nosed) and tried to extricate my film that way but only succeded in ripping the paper even more. I took it into a dark closet (even though we’ve only known each other a few days) and tried to re-load the film tags. What a nightmare! To spare you any further details I ended up with a big, goopy mess and wasted 75% of my film pack trying to free the pictures the correct way. I must’ve taken 10 pictures of those stupid pumpkins. It was time to consult the internet.

Thanks to Flickr I found a Polaroid Land Camera group that had a big thread relating to such problems. It took a bit of searching and of course now I can’t find my way back to that glorious thread, but here’s the basic problem. It seems as though there are two little pins near the rollers that cause undue tension on Fuji film. It was recommended that you either bend back these pins or break them off and pop a piece of weather stripping in it’s place. After a little surgery my film was still sticking. I did some further modification on my own by completely removing the bar that holds these two pins. This bar was bent up and was putting more tension on the film than just those two stupid little pins ever could have. After throughly cleaning the rollers and checking the battery connections I was FINALLLY able to get my Land Camera working! I’ll post pictures of my modification and a direct link to the ever-so-helpful mod directions in a later blog. Until then….

I had a Halloween-type party to attend this weekend (Saturday Oct. 18 which was World Toy Camera Day, but more about that later) and wanted to attend as a press photographer circa 1950’s so I could incorporate my toy cameras into the outfit. I was browsing the men’s suit section looking for a jacket that was classy yet over-the-top. The best I could find was a Master’s-Green polyester number. Not quite the look I was going for. OK, maybe I could go as Laverne from the old “Laverne & Shirley” T.V. show? Nope, no luck finding a workers shirt or suitable pencil-thin capri pants. I hate shopping and was getting really frustrated. All hopes of finding a cool retro Halloween outfit were shot. I figured, while I was in a thrift store I’d have more fun searching for something useful, thus began my quest last week for, you guessed it, a ‘new’ bargain vintage camera.

I got lucky at the first store. In the camera section, hidden behind a busted Olympus body, was an Action Sampler with film still inside! I grabbed it off the shelf and tried it out and unfortunately the four shutters weren’t firing correctly. Other than a few junker cams there was nothing of real interest.  

At the second place I was able to procure a 5-pack of 35mm expired Kodak Gold 24 film for $5.00. That made me pretty happy but I was left wanting more. It was time to go hard core. With some child-free time on my hands, I decided to hit a few antiques stores.

I drove to a nearby town and at the first store I was greeted by a friendly grey cat. I couldn’t go past the foyer until the kitty was petted a few times. This place had some great stuff – old military uniforms, football helmets, bitters bottles and toys caught my eye — but no cameras in sight. I went up the rickety wooden stairs to the second story, which looked to be mostly furniture, lacy things and moldy-looking Christmas decorations, and struck gold. I found a complete Polaroid Land Camera 220 kit, complete with bag, instruction booklet and stiff mounting paper, for $3.00! I was like a kid at Christmas. I marveled over the crazy construction of the camera, it’s bellows and sliding focus system. There were even some notes left in the bag written by the camera’s owner (who was clearly as anal-retentive as I am about my equipment) reminding her of what batteries and flash the camera used. The only thing I wasn’t sure about was which size film it used. If Fuji’s instant film fit the camera it would truly be a great score but if not, I’d only be out three bucks and I’d be able to use it until Polaroid film dissapeared.

I logged onto The Land List, a comprehensive categorization of virtually every Polaroid camera known to man. If you haven’t yet visited the site, check it out. Much to my shock and amazement my new treasure indeed accepts the Fuji! I was so completely stoked! Even my husband was thrilled and how could he not be? For $3 I had a great camera in my hands. The Land Cam is heavy but fits in the hands quite well. All the controls you need are easy to reach. The only awarkward part is the bellows, but that’s what gives it that distinct, retro look. As far as I can tell Aunt Bertha (or whoever owned it before me) took great care of this specimen. It smells a little funky (like the moth-balled top of someone’s closet) but other than that it’s very clean. I even had fun reading the instruction book. My favorite quote: “As soon as you open the film pack you will begin to accumulate waste paper. There will be more when you develop the pictures. We hope that it won’t become litter in the streets or be scattered around the landscape”.

I’ve seen Land Cameras at other thrift stores selling for around $5.00 so they can definetly be had on-the-cheap. Instead of eBay for Polaroid cameras check out your local thrift or antiques store. Many people have no idea that you can still get film for these beauties and prematurely abandon lovely, working relics. Remember that most of these cameras need batteries, a fact I found out the hard way. After wasting a few pictures and exposing nearly the entire pack to light, it became evident that my shutter wasn’t opening (even though it sounded like it was) because there were no batteries in the camera. Again, with the help of The Land List, I was able to order the correct sized 4.5Volt battery with snap-ends from batterymart.com. Once it arrives I’ll begin viewing the world through my Land Cams eyes.

Nachbarn können ein Segen sein, wenn man sich mit ihnen gut versteht, nicht nur, wenn das berühmte Ei fehlt oder die Tasse Zucker gebraucht wird. Sie können aber auch ein Fluch sein, wenn ihnen die Einsichtsfähigkeit fehlt, dass man kleine Kinder nicht den ganzen Tag dazu anhalten kann, durch die Wohnung zu schleichen und den Spieltrieb zu unterdrücken.

Noch dreister ist es, wenn sie ständig mit einem Stock an die Decke klopfen oder abends klingeln, sich leider davon überzeugen müssen, dass die vermeintlichen Ruhestörer bereits schlafen und dann, statt eine Entschuldigung zu suchen, mit dem Argument kommen: “Aber vor 14 Tagen, da war…..”.

Bleibt die Frage, was ist an “Lärm” erlaubt.

Die Geräusche, die von spielenden Kindern ausgehen, gelten nicht als rechtlich erhebliche Belästigung (OLG Düsseldorf WM 97, 221; LG Regensburg NZM 99, 220 sowie diverse andere). Selbstverständlich dürfen Kinder in einer Wohnung spielen und dabei lachen, weinen und schreien. Allerdings müssen die Eltern zwischen 13 und 15 Uhr sowie zwischen 22 und 7 Uhr unzumutbare Geräuschentfaltungen ihrer Kinder unterbinden.

Hierbei handelt es sich wohl um eine Selbstverständlichkeit.

Musik. Das LG Hamburg hat entschieden, dass jeder ein Recht hat, in seiner Wohnung ungestört zu leben und sich deshalb gegen unzulässigen Lärm wehren kann (WM 84, 79), doch ist nicht jedes Geräusch verboten. Geräusche sind nur dann nicht zulässig, wenn sie ein normal empfindender Durchschnittsmensch nicht mehr erträgt. “Gesundes Volksempfindens” ist das gebräuchliche und verhangenheitsbehaftete Kriterium. Das subjektive Empfinden des in seiner Ruhe gestörten einzelnen Nachbarn kann für eine gerichtliche Beurteilung nicht maßgeblich sein.

Bei Musik heißt dies Zimmerlautstärke. Spätestens dann, wenn der Nachbar darauf hinweist, dass er sich die CD gern selbst kaufen wird, ist der hinnehmbare Geräuschpegel überschritten.

Es darf nach 22 Uhr gebadet werden (LG Köln WM 97, 323) - allerdings höchstens 30 Minuten lang, fügt OLG Düsseldorf (WM 91, 288) hinzu. Wasser- und WC-Spülung rund um die Uhr gehören ebenfalls zum üblichen und deshalb hinnehmbaren Verhalten. (Eine “tolle” Nachricht für alle Schichtarbeiter.)

Nun werde ich mir überlegen, ob ich einfach die Urteile in den Briefkasten werfe oder den Link zu meinem Blog.

Vayan olvidando los nombres de “Waste Management” y “Upravleniye Otbrosam”, porque este disco ahora se llama “Веселые улыбки” (Veselye Ulybki) en su versión rusa y “Happy Smiles” en la versión en inglés. En palabras del comunicado oficial: “el nombre cambió, pero la esencia del disco permaneció.”
Además, se anunció quiénes trabajaron en este disco, (incluída gente que estuvo involucrada en la creación de “Not Gonna Get Us”, “All The Things She Said”), dónde se estuvo grabando, cuánto tiempo tomó en producirse y claro, se reveló el tracklisting oficial.

Original use was the Hawkins House Hotel.  The Hotel was known as one of the finest hotels on the Chicago road.  It replaced the old Hawkins House Hotel which was a wood frame structure located where the ‘union block’ was built at 200 west Michigan Avenue.

• 1893 - Building severely damaged by Cyclone (Tornado) that hit downtown Ypsilanti in April of that Year.   “The most narrow escape was at the Hawkins House.  A porter in the upper story of the destroyed part of the building fell with it and was pinned down so that he had to be released, but was found whole and only slightly bruised.  One of the girls in the adjoining room at the time the walls fell in, Josie Coghill by name, was imprisioned in the room and although thus buried in the debris was not much injured.  In rescuing her Frank Kirk had his eye injured by a brick striking him.  A traveling man asleep in his room waked to find himself in the room below him but he was unhurt.” Pg 753 Past and Present of Washtenaw County Michigan.
