“Kita sebaiknya bersiap-siap dalam menghadapi naiknya permukaan laut setinggi satu meter pada abad ini,” kata Joachim Schellnhuber, kepala Institut Postdam bagi Riset Dampak Iklim (PIK), yang memberikan nasehat kepada pemerintah dalam kebijakan lingkungan.

Ok, now, as I wrote this in 2108, there is quite a difference between what people imagine and desire regarding to future cities than it was a century ago, when you bots would read me. But anyway, I want to write about this, as I’m confined to my bed at home, between sessions of physical therapy. Before talking about the cities planned to be build by 2150, let me talk a little about the past.

There are two main kind of cities right now in the world. The obsolete type - sprawling, radial cities, which can be found especially in southern Europe (in the Northern part they didn’t manage to survive), some parts of Africa, South America and, of course, Australia. They’re still the majority worldwide, even if in ice-covered Europe and Asia, as well as in North America, they are not.

And there’s a reason for this. Not only the weather, which was terrible 40-10 years ago (but slowly started to warm up in the last 8 years), with ice and snowstorms engulfing much of the Northern continents for 7-8 months each year. But also an economic and ecologic reason.

Talking about the weather first. In the ’30s, the global warming heated the continents so much,  that carbon-neutral cities like this one (eventually built in 2020 but on a smaller scale in Dubai, it still exists but it’s a slump) started to be interesting. They provided shelter from the heat, nice internal transportation (getting rid of cars), a controlled climate and such. There were dozens of them built in America, Europe and Asia, many of them accessible only for the elites.

But as the ’50s came, with their huge storms, food shortages and icy-cold weather (due to the Atlantic current reversal and a host of other climateric changes), interest for this kind of cities increased 100%. However, for entirely different reasons than before. Before people wanted to feel cool and be protected from the scorching sun, afterwards they flocked to such projects to be protected from the snow storms and icy weahter. As the ’70s came, with 5-6-month winters, a short spring in July and August, and devastating freezes in September, millions died. The horrible 8th decade saw the first underground cities, with huge domes above and, looking retrospectively, this kind of investment was the most unfortunate of all.

Those cities have all sorts of problems right now, starting with the way that they were built. The city in which I live is aging beautifully, though. It’s built 80% on the surface, with two concentric built areas, surrounding a huge 3-miles-radius park, with a space between the inner building and the outer building (two concentric circles with a 3 miles, respectively 3.2 miles radius each). That inner courtyard is covered and has a controlled climate, as well as all the amenities of a big city.

I live in a huge mall with big condos and terraces on the outside, if you want. And that type of city managed to solve most of the XXI-st Century first half problems. Transport is integrated through elevators and people carriers, the city itself being connected through high speed trains and electric cabs to the cities in the vicinity. No traffic jams, no pollution, no noise.

But I digress. Now that the planet heats up again, nobody pretty knows what to expect. The new generation is eager to have individual homes with gardens, again, and the politicians are pushing for this return to the original way of housing. I suspect they have big real estate interests, but the problem we all face is: if in the next 20-30 years we manage to bring back the climate to a more moderate one, would the return to original individual housing ruin all that we accomplished?

I mean, OK, people are fed up with living in ‘hives’, but you couldn’t possibly house 9 billion people in sprawling cities like in the past. Look at South-America, were they didn’t manage to salvage cities like Mexico and Buenos Aires when the big storms of the ‘50es came. It will simply not work.

There’s currently a debate to make a compromise. That is, to build not huge cities with hexagonal or circular 30-50 stories high buildings encompassing huge parks, but smaller, similarly shaped cities, connected through a network of transport. These would have only 2-3 stories-high buildings, would encompass only 0.2-0.3 miles radius parks, and would ensure that everybody feels like they would own an individual home and garden.

My main objection to this is that the land for agriculture is scarce right now due to the harsh climate, and that the hive structure of current cities really allowed for the remaining land to be rationally cultivated.

I think we’ll wait and see. I’m going for a stroll in the park right now, so… (a virtual one, of course, I can connect through the ksphere for limited amount of times now…)

Yes, well, I’ve started writing a book about things far beyond my comprehension. I need to research DNA manipulation, plasma energy, prolonged space travel, and battlefield tactics.

But, all space-age technologies aside, I believe my writing skills are at least decent. I’m concerned with getting a believable story written and I’ll deal with the confusing science-y things later.

Anyways, if enough people are interested I might start posting some chapters for everyone to preview (I like how I write as if I have a loyal fan base already) so you guys can get a sneak preview or two. It’s called 2100, read: twenty-one hundred. I don’t know, it sounded cool. Plus, there’s a deeper meaning behind it!

One more thing, if you’re not interested in science fiction then you might not like this book. Maybe if you’ve read Ender’s Game you might be able to appreciate this. It’s got action, science, drama, and a pretty good story (in my opinion). I think it’s easier to write at my age than later on in life, because I know how I’d like books to read and play out. My goal is for it to feel more like a cinematic experience in word form, transmitting straight into your imagination.

UPDATE: I’ll probably write this later in a full update of this book, but I’m trying to add a whole infrastructure behind the story that doesn’t keep it as tunnelvisioned as I had it before. This means politics, society, and economy are going to be mixed in with the rest of the story. Cool beans?

I had to categorize this post as Trivia because the information contained in it will affect very few people alive today (unless you are an avid historian or user of Microsoft Excel).  It turns out that we were all misled as children - not every fourth year is a leap year.  Since the solar year is actually less than 365.25 days, closer to 365.24, there are several other adjustments that need to be made.  Notably, only the beginning of every century that is evenly divisible by 4 is a leap year.  In other words, 1700, 1800 and 1900 were not leap years, but 2000 was a leap year.  2100 will not be a leap year, which will make it that much easier for me to reach the age of 120.

I was reading an article the other day about how in its early days, Microsoft encoded a date/time error into Microsoft Excel.  They assigned a number of 59 to February 28, 1900 and a number of 61 to March 1, 1900.  Microsoft has since “corrected” the error by assigning the number 60 to February 29 1900 (you can try it yourself).  Unfortunately, February 29, 1900 never occurred.

Ever since man has started grasping the logic of Time and Space… he has been equally excited and worried about what to expect ahead. We all do in one way or the other I suppose.

When will our next salary come? When are we going to die? What will become of the world after a 100 years? The list is of course endless.

We might not be able to predict your death (because some things better be left to Faith and Fate alike), but we can tell you of some exciting and amazing things that are set to happen till the 23rd century!

We are in the 21st century by the way… in case you did not know!

While the chairman of Microsoft Corporation, Bill Gates is set to step down from daily duties after three decades on July 31 this year (shoot yourself right now if you did not know this!), we will start our estimations and predictions from the year 2009 and move forward 2009… 2010… 2015… 2020… 2030… 2040… and so forth.

Please note that these predictions are based on current trends and estimates. If things don’t happen the way they are listed here, you better not blame us! The list does not cover each and every event that would happen around the world. So if you are looking forward to finding out of they would ever make the sequel to Sex and The City, you’re on the wrong website! Sorry!

On a personal note, both Fauzan and I have been swept by amazement and sadness while compiling this list. There are certain events that only our children or our children’s children will witness or hear of. The likes of us would have long perished… returned from where we came from… dust to dust. The future holds many hopes and promises. It also holds warnings and disasters in the making. The decisions we take now, in our present, can affect the outcome that our next generations will either enjoy or suffer from.

Aqui va mi segundo post sobre mi experiencia en Debian.
El primer problema que encontré fué la ausencia de drivers para mi tarjeta WiFi Intel. La solucion es extremadamente sencilla, y os la explico en un momento. La explicación de porqué no viene es sencilla: es propietario y a Debian no le gusta incluir cosas propietarias.

Lo primero, saber que tarjeta tenemos.

1. Si es una ipw2200 ve aqui
2. Si es una ipw2100 ve aqui

En ambos casos, ecoge la version más alta del firmware, y te llevará a una página de la licencia. Baja hasta abajo y dale a Agree (”Acepto” en inglés) y se te descargará.
Lo siguiente es inslatarlo. Esto e smuy sencillo, descomprimer el archivo y extrae los 4 archivos que hay dentro. Ahora abre una ventana como root haciendo Alt+F2 y escribiendo gksu nautilus /lib/firmware.

Esto te lleva directamente a la carpeta /lib/firmware con poderes de root. Ahora pega los 4 archivos que has descomprimido en la carpeta. Cierra nautilus, y reinicia.

Ya está, ya funciona el internet con la WiFi

Ya tenemos dd-wrt en su versión v24 Stable,
ahora podremos cambiar nuestra ip a una del rango 192.168.1.0/24
y entrar a la 192.168.1.1 para ver el menú de administracion

Os presento una guía para modificar el router la fonera y poder instalar dd-wrt o openwrt, con lo cual el aparato de 15 euros se convierte en algo mucho más potente donde poder correr nuestras aplicaciones o que haga de router libre.
Al hacer esto rompemos la garantía y de alguna forma el contrato con fon. La verdad es que nos da igual. Hay que aprovechar el hardware, que para eso lo pagamos.

QUÉ NECESITAMOS
Un router principal conectado directamente a internet, router adsl o a un cablemódem o un cableoruter
Putty
Tftpd32
DD-WRT Fonera Firmware archivos root.fs and vmlinux.bin.l7
Openwrt files archivos openwrt-atheros-2.6-vmlinux.lzma and openwrt-atheros-2.6-root.squashfs

Hay ciertos pasos que tenemos que seguir para conseguir cambiar el firmeware

Hacer un downgrade del firmware original
Habilitar ssh
Instalar redboot
Instalar el firmware dd-wrt
Instalar el firmware openwrt

Downgrade el firmware

Primero necesitamos el firmware con versión 0.7.1 r2 (o anterior). Para hacerlo simplemente encendemos la fonera y mantenemos presionado el botón reset durante los 5 primeros segundos. Repetimos esta operación hasta que el firmware esté en una de las mencionadas versiones.

Habilitar ssh

Primero debemos configurar el tcp/ip de la fonera.
Con la fonera desconectada del router principal, nos conectamos al ssid my_place y entramos en la web 192.168.10.1. Hacemos click en advance y cambiamos dchp por static e introducimos la siguiente configuración:

IP: 192.168.0.10 , cualquier ip válida de nuestra red local
Gateway: 192.168.0.1, la ip de nuestro router principal
Dns: 88.198.165.155

Conectamos ahora la fonera al router principal y esperamos 3 minutos, la reiniciamos 2 veces. Ahora deberemos ver dos ssids, my_place y fon_ap, conectamos via wifi a my_place y ya deberíamos tener habilitado ssh

Username: root
Password: admin

Instalar redboot

Conectamos la fonera al router principal y ejecutamos lo siguiente

cd /tmp
wget http://fonera.info/camicia/openwrt-ar531x-2.4-vmlinux-CAMICIA.lzma
mtd -e vmlinux.bin.l7 write openwrt-ar531x-2.4-vmlinux-CAMICIA.lzma vmlinux.bin.l7
reboot

Después de que haya reiniciado volvemos a conectar y ejecutamos esto:

cd /tmp
wget http://fonera.info/camicia/out.hex
mtd -e “RedBoot config” write out.hex “RedBoot config”
reboot

Ya tenemos instalado redboot

Instalar dd-wrt

Desconectamos la fonera del router principal y la conectamos directamente a nuestro pc. Cambiamos la ip de nuestra ethernet a 192.168.1.166, la máscara a 255.255.255.0 y la puerta de enlace a 192.168.1.254. Conecte la fonera a la electricidad y antes de 10 segundos ejecutamos:

telnet 192.168.1.254 9000

Una vez dentro abrimos el servidor tftp con los ficheros vmlinux.bin.l7 y rootfs dentro y ejecutamos la siguiente secuencia de comandos (ojo que algunos duran mucho, paciencia):

RedBoot> ip_address -l 192.168.1.254/24 -h 192.168.1.166
RedBoot> fis init
RedBoot> load -r -b 0×80041000 root.fs

Podemos entrar al panel de administración web o por telnet

Instalar open-wrt
Desconectamos la fonera del router principal y la conectamos a nuestro pc. Cambiamos la ip de nuestra tarjeta de red a 192.168.1.166, la máscara a 255.255.255.0 y puerta de enlace predeterminada a 192.168.1.254. Conectamos la fonera a la electricidad y antes de 10 segundos ejecutamos:

telnet 192.168.1.254 9000

Abrimos el servidor ftp con los archivos openwrt-atheros-2.6-vmlinux.lzma y openwrt-atheros-2.6-root.squashfs y ejecutamos los siguientes comandos:

RedBoot> ip_address -l 192.168.1.254/24 -h 192.168.1.166
RedBoot> fis init
RedBoot> load -r -b %{FREEMEMLO} openwrt-atheros-2.6-vmlinux.lzma

Podemos hacer telnet a la fonera y activar el servidor ssh cambiando el password de root con el comando “passwd”

Tulisan ini hanya sekedar menanggapai dari pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang sering sekali teman-teman forum lontarkan. Masalah yang mudah tapi dibuat sulit oleh beberapa teknisi handphone. Bermula hanya sekedar ingin merubah bahasa alias BI jadi muncul persoalan baru… hik,,hik. Hal ini memang banyak terjadi pada type handphone 2100 dan 3610 dimana penyebab utamanya adalah tidak syncron-nya antara IMEI original dan IMEI Plain.

Beberapa pertanyaan yang muncul dan kebanyakan memang sudah dioprek pada bagian hardware-nya

Bos… 2100 conser, udah aku ganti IC Cobba, IC CPU serta pada IC Flash, tapi hasilnya kok tetep Conser ya..!! Pusing aku…!!!

Boss, udah aku full flash, erase, dan malahan aku dah pake program jadul yg katanya sangat ampuh utk mengatasi conser.. Noktool, masih gak mempan juga yaaa…

OK dech…
Untuk menangani kasus ini mari kita coba pake alat flasher yang umum digunakan oleh para teknisi aja. Pake UFS-3 Tornado aja yach,,, langkah pertama lihat dulu info yang tertera pada tab information. Teliti betul pada bagian Cobba, disitu tertera angka berapa? -31 atau -700..!!! Kalo -31 berarti permasalahan bukan dari IC Cobba yang rusak, tapi jika -700 IC Cobba mengalami kerusakan.

Kedua, lihat pada bagian IMEI Plain sesuai dengan IMEI Original kan???
Ndak usah dipermasalahkan dech… yang penting kondisi ponsel udah -31, dan selanjutnya…

Selanjutnya Anda tinggal flash seperti biasa, MCU+PPM dan kemudian setelah selesai Rebuild IMEI, sesuaikan dengan IMEI Original-nya, dan terakhir Unlock.
