A while ago, I spoke with my sources at TSMC, who were quite decisive to make it to the front on the field of chip manufacturing. Heads of this Taiwanese giant decided to invest more than 10 billion USD in order to become world’s most advanced manufacturer, and their roadmap is more aggressive than anyone in the industry.

The results of that investment are slowly coming to life, and as of today, TSMC has more advanced manufacturing process than any other competitor in the manufacturing business. Intel will argue its (very important, though) Hafnium or High-K material, but ever since I became a journalist, Intel touted its manufacturing capabilities and ability to go small “sooner than anyone else”. Well, that is about to change.
For instance, Intel will introduce 32nm process in late 2009, and mass production in 2010. Due to separation between AMD and “MAD AMD” (The Foundry Company) will introduce 32nm (bulkPG, not for CPUs) only at the end of 2009, with 2010 being the year of mass production. If all things go well, that is.
During that same time, TSMC will introduce 32nm (Q4′2009), 28nm (Q2′2010) and 22nm will debut in first half of 2011. This is very, very aggressive roadmap that will give Nvidia and ATI leverage in development of graphics parts.

This also does not sound good for Intel’s own Larrabee, which will rely on Intel’s own manufacturing capabilities. While this was viewed as a huge strength in the previous years, TSMC may actually give AMD and Nvidia more than a fighting chance - a winning cost/die ratio.

As a case of demonstration, my source gave me a comparison while using Nvidia’s GT200 chip. This estimated comparison gave me shivers, because in 28nm (available in a bit more than a year), die size for 1.4 billion transistors would drop to incredible 160mm2. Of course, don’t expect that ATI or Nvidia will stand still. They will keep making big GPUs and put more and more core logic inside.

GT200 die through different TSMC manufacturing processes (”wild” estimate):
65nm: 576 mm2 (GT200)
55nm: 470 mm2 (GT206)
40nm: 320 mm2 (GT212)
32nm: 220 mm2 (die-shrink estimate)
28nm: 150 mm2 (die-shrink estimate)

Given this table, we can see that if Nvidia would want to keep the 500mm2 die size, it could manufacture a chip with 500 processors in 40nm, 700 processors in 32nm or massive 1200 shader processors using 28nm process. But don’t expect that either ATI or Nvidia will go linear with their GPUs.
What I personally expect is 512-bit bus, GDDR5 memory controller for both companies (regardless of what ATI is saying now), and increasing the capabilities of shaders. Currently, ATI is supporting FP64 DP format through their 80 shader lines (e.g. in RV780, you have 80 shader pipelines with 10 units in each - you can either output one FP64 Dual Precision or ten FP32 Single Precision number formats). Nvidia features one FP64 DualPrecision unit on eight of their regular shader cores.
With 32nm available in 2009 and 28nm available a year later, it is easy to predict that we will see a tremendous increase in processing power not through the sheer number of shaders, but rather increasing existing shader capabilities.
My $0.02 is that we will see 4-10TFLOPS parts coming in next 24 months, essentially increasing the computational power by anywhere between four and ten times. All thanks to massive effort put in by TSMC.
For now, Nvidia can announce the mass production of Tegra mobile SoC chips and its notebook lineup, while ATI can launch their notebook line-up. 40nm High-Performance arrives in Q1′2009, and you can expect GT212 and RV870 coming “your way in May”.

Todo un acontecimiento que espero no deje a nadie indiferente

Dr. Carl Johan Calleman har på sin hjemmeside www.calleman.com en artikkel om hvorfor sluttdato på Mayakalenderen ikke kan være 21. desember 2012. Han forklarer hvorfor sluttdatoen må være 28. oktober 2011: 

Hvorfor skapelsessyklene ikke slutter 21. desember 2012 men 28. oktober 2011.

I løpet av de siste decennier har det vært mye diskutert hvordan man skal finne den eksakte korrelasjon mellom mayafolkets Lange Telling og den Gregorianske kalender. De fleste forskere innen området har blitt enige om at den såkalte GMT korrelasjonen er korrekt. Den plasserer starten av den Lange Tellingen på 4 Ahau 8 Cumku, som motsvarer den Julianske dagen 584 283 eller den 11. august 3114 f. Kr.

Konsekvensen av dette er at denne syklus kommer til å slutte 21. desember 2012, og de fleste, f. eks. John Jenkins, José Arguelles og Terence McKenna som har interessert seg for Mayakalenderen, har satt denne dato som slutten av den nåværende syklus.

Jeg setter ikke spørsmål ved om GMT korrelasjonen mellom den Lange Tellingen og den Gregorianske er korrekt. Og det framstår som helt klart at den Lange Tellingen er en nesten (så nære som omtrent ett år) korrekt speiling av den guddommelige skapelsesprosessen. Det finnes imidlertid sterke grunner til å tro at Mayafolkets Lange Telling ikke eksakt speiler de skiftende energiene i de guddommelige skapelsessyklene som vi i dag har anledning til å interessere oss for. Hva som sterk taler for dette, er at den eksakte innledningsdato for den Store Syklus´ begynnelse ser ut til å ha blitt kalibrert på bakgrunn av datoen da solen sto i zenit i Izapa, noe som inntraff akkurat den 11. august 3114 f. Kr. (Izapa er en tidligere mayaby i sørlige Mexico hvor den Lange Tellingen først ble utviklet.)

Dagen da solen sto i zenit, hadde allerede lenge før den Lange Tellingen ble innført, blitt betraktet som den dag i året da ”tiden begynte”. Det er grunn til å anta at de valgte denne dag som innledning til den Lange Tellingen, nettopp fordi solen sto i zenit. Men at den nedtegnede mayadagen 4 Ahau 8 Cumku fikk innlede den Lange Tellingen i Izapa, har nødvendigvis ikke noe å gjøre med den virkelige begynnelsen på den tilsvarende guddommelige skapelsessyklus. Vi kan sammenlikne dette med årsaken til at vi feirer julaften, d.v.s. Jesu fødsel. Denne feiringen av Jesu fødsel var en overtagelse fra det som var gamle seremonier omkring vintersolverv. Datoen for julefeiringen er ikke blitt endret til tross for at ytterst få tror at Jesus egentlig ble født denne dato, men å forandre på datoen skulle bli betraktet som svært ukristelig. At sluttdatoen for den Lange Tellingen faller på den 21. desember, er derfor bare en logisk konsekvens av begynnelsesdatoen som ble valgt av Izapanerne. Den er ikke nødvendigvis en dato som Mayaene med hensikt har siktet seg inn på.

De skapelsessykler som beskrives av Mayaene, inklusive Tzolkin, er i bunn og grunn av en åndelig, ikke-astronomisk natur. Dette medfører at      enhver teori som hevder at Mayas Lange Telling skulle ha blitt nedtegnet for å speile astronomiske fenomener, enten det er jordpresesjonen eller solens zenit, viser at opphavspersonen ”er langt ut på viddene”. Det burde være åpenbart at hvis Mayakalenderen er en profetisk kalender som beskriver kosmiske energisykler av en universell karakter, da er datoen når solen står i zenit på stedet Izapa fullstendig uvesentlig for oss som lever i dag og kan ikke betraktes som annet enn et resultat av en tradisjon som har vært for altfor sterk til å kunne forandres.

En annen like overbevisende grunn til at 21. desember 2012 ikke kan være den riktige dagen da skaperverket fullbyrdes, er at denne dagen bærer betegnelsen 4 Ahau i Tzolkin-tellingen. Fordi den Lange Tellingen består av eksakt 7200 Tzolkinrunder, må den riktige dagen for skaperverkets fullbyrdelse være en dag som bærer betegnelsen 13 Ahau i Tzolkin-tellingen. Fordi bare på denne måten går Tzolkinrundene jevnt opp.

Hvis vi vil vite hvilken dag skapelsessyklene i virkeligheten slutter, må vi derfor lete etter en dag rundt år 2012, men som er 13 Ahau i Tzolkin-tellingen. Innskriftene i Palenque, som er skrevet kanskje tusen år senere enn den Lange Tellingens start i Izapa, antyder at den relevante datoen er 28. oktober 2011, som også viser seg å bære betegnelsen 13 Ahau i Tzolkin-tellingen.

Spørsmålet om den eksakte korrelasjonen mellom skapelsessyklene og den fysiske tiden var kanskje ikke så kritisk under Mayaenes tid som det er for oss som lever nå. Dette er fordi skapelsesprosessen som pågår nå skjer med en 400 ganger høyere frekvens. Et avvik på noe omkring ett år betydde mindre i den klassiske tidsalder enn for oss som lever nå. Hvis vi i dag skulle gjøre en feil på 420 dager når vi kalibrerer skapelsessyklenes sluttdato, ville vi være helt ute av takt med det budskapet som Mayakalenderen kan formidle.

I den nåværende og raske utviklingen av den Galaktiske skapelsessyklus, slås Yin/Yang-dualiteter fra kosmos av og på hver 360. dag. Det er disse energiforandringene en åndelig mayakalender bør speile hvis den skal tjene menneskeheten i vår nåværende utviklingsfase.

Iraq’s cabinet approved a pact on Sunday that will let U.S. troops stay in the country until 2011, setting a final date to end a military presence that began with the 2003 invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein.

The pact, reached after nearly a year of gruelling negotiations with Washington, must still be approved by the Iraqi parliament, but Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari said he expected that to happen by the end of the month.

It gives a closing date to pull out troops from a war that has been one of the defining political issues in the United States, the Middle East and around the globe for much of the past decade.

“The total withdrawal will be completed by Dec. 31, 2011. This is not governed by circumstances on the ground. This date is specific and final,” cabinet spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said.

He said the pact was supported by 27 of 28 cabinet members who attended a meeting to vote on it.

It’s good to see that the Iraqi government and military are now confident enough to finally take control of their country’s security.

The Bush administration wasted years of potential progress by attempting to fight the insurgency militarilyt instead of combatting the political and social divisions that lead to the insurgency.  Sadly, the Iraqi government used American soldiers as crutches for far too long while their efforts to build a functioning government and viable military stagnated.

It’s telling that Iraq has made significant advancements in just the past few months, when American withdrawl from Iraq in the near future has become almost guaranteed.  It took the real threat of losing the protection of American military force for the Iraqi government to make much-needed progress.

The Iraq war will end within Obama’s first term; whenever it ends, it will be the second-longest war in American history.  We can hope that Iraq will stand on it’s own feet and that, in the future, the tactical blunders and planning failures that created the Iraq debacle will never, ever be repeated.

Όποιοι λίγοι και λίγες παρακολουθούν αυτό το μπλόγκ, θα γνωρίζουν ότι διστάζει να συμμετέχει στις ηλεκτρονικές εκστρατείες online ακτιβισμού της ελληνικής “μπλογκόσφαιρας” - για πολλούς και διάφορους λόγους.

Πολλές φορές δε αποφεύγουμε καν να αναφερθούμε, θεωρώντας ότι τα άτομα που διαβάζουν είναι ήδη ενημερωμένα περί του “αγωνιστικού ημερολογίου”, και αντίθετα σκοπός αυτού το μπλόγκ είναι να υπογραμμίσει και να παρουσιάσει τις λιγότερο διαδεδομένες εξελίξεις στους τομείς των ενδιαφερόντων του, όχι μόνο σε ελληνικό αλλά και σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο. Γι’ αυτό και η ως τώρα συγγραφική σιωπή περί του αγώνα των κρατουμένων.

Αυτή της στιγμή έγινε η επιλογή συμμετοχής στην ηλεκτρονική διαμαρτυρία που ακολουθεί, καθώς συνδυάζεται και από μια ενημέρωση για την πορεία που διοργανώνεται την Τρίτη 18 Νοέμβρη στις 18:00, με αφετηρία την Πλατεία Ελευθερίας και κατάληξη τις φυλακές Κορυδαλλού, από την Πρωτοβουλία για τα Δικαιώματα των Κρατουμένων (www.keli.gr).

Ο αγώνας των κρατουμένων, πέρα από προφανώς δίκαιος, μας δίνει τροφή για σκέψη και πράξη για την οργάνωση των κοινωνικών κινημάτων, για τους τρόπους διεκδίκησης και δημοσιοποίησης ενός σύγχρονου κινήματος, για την επιθυμία του αγωνίζεσθαι και τη “γυμνή ζωή” που μπαίνει στην πάλη.

Επειδή για πρακτικούς λόγους το blog δεν θα ανανεωθεί την επόμενη εβδομάδα, κάνουμε την ανάρτηση της διαμαρτυρίας από τώρα.

Με αφορμή το πρωτόγνωρο κύμα απεργιών πείνας από τους κρατούμενους στις Ελληνικές φυλακές αλλά και την εγκληματική αποσιώπησή του από τα κυρίαρχα ΜΜΕ, για τη Δημοκρατία και την προάσπιση των βασικών ανθρώπινων δικαιωμάτων καλούμε όλους όσους διατηρούν μπλογκς, διαδικτυακά φόρα και όχι μόνο να δημοσιεύσουν ταυτόχρονα και συντονισμένα στις 20 Νοεμβρίου 2008, ημέρα Πέμπτη, το παρακάτω (υπό διαμόρφωση) κείμενο.

Από τις τρεις Νοεμβρίου μία εκκωφαντική κραυγή συνταράσσει τα θεμέλια της Δημοκρατίας μας. Από τις τρεις Νοεμβρίου σύσσωμοι οι κρατούμενοι όλης της χώρας κατεβαίνουν σε απεργία πείνας διεκδικώντας το αυτονόητο : τη χαμένη τους αξιοπρέπεια. Απέναντί τους αντιμετωπίζουν την εκκωφαντική σιωπή των κραταιών ΜΜΕ και την παντελή αδιαφορία της πολιτικής ηγεσίας. Σε αυτές τις πρακτικές όσοι υπογράφουμε αυτό το κείμενο ΔΕ ΣΥΝΑΙΝΟΥΜΕ.

Η κατάσταση στις Ελληνικές φυλακές είναι απερίγραπτη και μπορεί να γίνει κατανοητή μόνο με τη σκληρή γλώσσα των μαθηματικών. Στα κατ’ επίφαση “σωφρονιστικά” ιδρύματα της χώρας έχουν καταγραφεί συνολικά 417 θάνατοι την τελευταία δεκαετία, ενώ ο ρυθμός τους έχει απογειωθεί σε τέτοιο σημείο, ώστε σήμερα να σβήνουν στα χέρια του κράτους τέσσερις άνθρωποι το μήνα. Η πληρότητα αγγίζει το 168% (10.113 κρατούμενοι για 6.019 θέσεις) με την αναλογία χώρου για κάθε άνθρωπο να φτάνει σε περιπτώσεις το 1τμ. Με ημερήσιο κρατικό έξοδο ανά κρατούμενο τα 3,60 Ευρώ τα συσσίτια που παρέχονται είναι άθλια, οι υποδομές θυμίζουν μεσαίωνα και η ιατροφαρμακευτική περίθαλψη είναι ελλιπέστατη. Συγχρόνως, το Ελληνικό δικαστικό σύστημα στέλνει στη φυλακή έναν στους χίλιους κατοίκους της χώρας με τους έγκλειστους χωρίς δίκη (υπό προσωρινή κράτηση) να αγγίζουν το 30% του συνολικού αριθμού των κρατουμένων. Αν η ποιότητα μίας Δημοκρατίας κρίνεται από τις φυλακές της, τότε η Δημοκρατία μας ασθμαίνει. Αν η τιμώρηση παραβατικών συμπεριφορών με εγκλεισμό γίνεται από το κράτος στο όνομα της κοινωνίας, τότε για την κατάσταση στις Ελληνικές φυλακές είμαστε όλοι υπόλογοι, με συντριπτικές όμως ευθύνες να αναλογούν στην κρατική μηχανή. Σε αυτή την πραγματικότητα όσοι υπογράφουμε αυτό το κείμενο απαντούμε ΟΧΙ ΣΤΟ ΟΝΟΜΑ ΜΑΣ.

Τα στοιχεία που αποκαλύπτονται από επίσημους φορείς για τις Ελληνικές φυλακές σκιαγραφούν εικόνα κολαστηρίων. Έκθεση της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής για την Πρόληψη των Βασανιστηρίων (2007) διαπιστώνει βασανιστήρια, απάνθρωπη μεταχείριση και απειλές κατά της ζωής κρατουμένων, σειρά παραβιάσεων αναφορικά με τις συνθήκες κράτησης, ελλείμματα στη διερεύνηση και τιμωρία των ενόχων, αποσιώπηση περιστατικών βίας με την συμπαιγνία ιατρών και φυλάκων, απαράδεκτες συνθήκες ιατρικής περίθαλψης και ιατρικού ελέγχου στους κρατούμενους κλπ. Το Ευρωπαϊκό Δικαστήριο Δικαιωμάτων του Ανθρώπου έχει εκδώσει σειρά καταδικαστικών για την Ελλάδα αποφάσεων που αφορούν κακομεταχείριση ή/και παραβιάσεις άλλων δικαιωμάτων κρατουμένων από σωφρονιστικές αρχές. Η Εθνική Επιτροπή για τα Δικαιώματα του Ανθρώπου έχει πάρει απόφαση - καταπέλτη για τα κακώς κείμενα στις φυλακές, προτείνοντας άμεσες δράσεις για την επίλυση τους. Ο Συνήγορος του Πολίτη διαμαρτύρεται για την παντελή έλλειψη συνεργασίας των αρμόδιων κρατικών φορεών μαζί του, λόγω της οποίας έχει ουσιαστικά απαγορευτεί η είσοδός του στις φυλακές της χώρας τα τελευταία δύο χρόνια. Οι δικηγορικοί σύλλογοι όλης της χώρας, μη κυβερνητικές οργανώσεις, όπως η Διεθνής Αμνηστία, και πολλοί πολιτικοί/κοινωνικοί φορείς καταγγέλλουν την απαράδεκτη κατάσταση και ζητούν ευρύτερη συνεργασία για το ξεπέρασμα του προβλήματος. Αν ανθρώπινα είναι τα δικαιώματα που πρέπει να απολαμβάνει κάθε ανθρώπινο ον, κάθε στέρησή τους στις Ελληνικές φυλακές αποτελεί ανοιχτή πληγή για την κοινωνία μας. Σε αυτή την κατάσταση όσοι υπογράφουμε αυτό το κείμενο απαντούμε ΝΑ ΣΠΑΣΕΙ ΕΠΙΤΕΛΟΥΣ ΤΟ ΑΒΑΤΟ ΤΩΝ ΦΥΛΑΚΩΝ.

Με την απεργία πείνας οι κρατούμενοι καταφεύγουν στο τελευταίο οχυρό αντίστασης, που τους έχει απομείνει, το σώμα τους. Είχε προηγηθεί έσχατη έκκλησή τους προ μηνός προς τους ιθύνοντες να ενσκήψουν στο πρόβλημα, καθώς δεν πήγαινε άλλο. Για να λύσουν την απεργία πείνας ζητούν την ικανοποίηση αιτημάτων, που αποκαθιστούν την χαμένη τους αξιοπρέπεια και επανακτούν τα βασικά ανθρώπινα δικαιώματά τους, αιτημάτων συγκεκριμένων, αξιοπρεπών και άμεσα υλοποιήσιμων. Απέναντι στις κινητοποιήσεις των κρατουμένων η πολιτική ηγεσία εξαντλεί τη δράση της σε αδιαφορία, υποσχέσεις και καταστολή των κινημάτων τους. Τυχόν αδιαφορία και αναλγησία της πολιτικής ηγεσίας όμως και σε αυτή τη φάση θα σημαίνει νεκρούς απεργούς πείνας. Στη μετωπική λοιπόν σύγκρουση που επιλέγουν οι κρατούμενοι της χώρας για τη διεκδίκηση των ανθρωπίνως αυτονόητων δε μπορούμε να μένουμε απαθείς σταυρώνοντας τα χέρια και περιμένοντας τις ειδήσεις των θανάτων από τις απεργίες πείνας αλλά θα σταθούμε αλληλέγγυοι. Αν η περιφρούρηση της δημοκρατίας και των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων επιβάλλουν την επαγρύπνιση όλων μας, τώρα είναι λοιπόν η στιγμή να πάρουμε θέση όλοι απέναντι στο πρόβλημα χωρίς αδιαφορίες και υπεκφυγές.

Απέναντι στην τεταμένη κατάσταση στις φυλακές όλης της χώρας όσοι υπογράφουμε αυτό το κείμενο καθιστούμε την πολιτική ηγεσία απολύτως υπεύθυνη για ό,τι συμβεί και απαιτούμε άμεσα την τόσο θεσμική όσο και στην πράξη ΕΓΓΥΗΣΗ ΤΩΝ ΒΑΣΙΚΩΝ ΑΝΘΡΩΠΙΝΩΝ ΔΙΚΑΙΩΜΑΤΩΝ ΤΩΝ ΚΡΑΤΟΥΜΕΝΩΝ ΟΛΗΣ ΤΗΣ ΧΩΡΑΣ.

Την 21η Νοεμβρίου το κείμενο αυτό θα σταλεί σε όλα τα μέλη του κοινοβουλίου και σε όσο το δυνατόν περισσότερους φορείς μέσων μαζικής ενημέρωσης με την προτροπή της αναδημοσίευσής του. Το κείμενο προς αποστολή θα φέρει τους υπερσυνδέσμους (URL) από όλες τις ιστοσελίδες, που το υιοθέτησαν.

While the larger Iraqi Parliament has yet to vote, the agreement allowing U.S. forces to remain until 2011 appears to have passed the smaller Iraqi Cabinet.  While not all the ministers were present, the measure does seem to have passed with a majority vote for now.  Helping smooth the waters was the statement from a leading Shiite cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, who said he would not object if the measure passed with a clear majority in the Parliament. 

The new agreement means that U.S. forces will be able to stay past the December 31 deadline set by the U.N. mandate that we are currently operating under, but who knew we would be there so long after it was declared “Mission Accomplished.”  The new pact includes changes that allow U.S. forces and even defense contractors to be tried for serious crimes, which means Blackwater got their silencers and rifles just in time (See http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=6254508&page=1 ).

Muqtada al-Sadr said he would be against any agreement that did not mean that all “occupying forces” were to leave immediately, and while al-Sadr is an idiot, unfortunately, he is a popular idiot.  Hopefully in the months since his forces declared a cease-fire on American forces, they have come to realize what a pinhead he is.  If al-Sadr thinks that over 140,00 troops can simply vanish overnight, then he is as stupid as he looks, I mean we are talking Forrest Gump with a lobotomy level of stupidity with this one.  That is just my opinion, in that I hate him, and think he is a shill for Iran.

But back to the new agreement, it also bans using Iraq as a base to attack neighboring countries, like our little outing in Syria recently, which to this day still makes no sense to me.  I mean, why risk 4 choppers and their crews for a hit job?  Did we run out of missiles?  That whole mission seemed squirrely, and the fact that we killed and/or captured some al-Qaeda jerk is great, but the level of risk in that operation was just bewildering. 

As for Iraq, the roadside bombs continue, the sectarian violence is still occurring, but the reality is, no matter how long we stayed, those factions would continue to fight.  I never thought the current administration would ever admit to that, but in agreeing to withdraw, it seems they have.  Or maybe the current administration already cut enough oil deals to keep their friends happy for quite a while, so it was time to leave.  Either way, our forces will start to come home.  Well, more of our attention will go to Afghanistan, but a fair amount of our forces should be allowed to return. 

And the fun part will be when the Rush Limbaugh types start blaming the Democrats for it all, if they haven’t started that already.  We should have no illusions that Iraq has a staggering number of problems that must be dealt with, but unlike so many that thought the invasion was a great idea, many of us realized just what a tiger by the tail we had caught when it was decided we should invade, for reasons that changed more than just a few times.

And for those of you who still argue that the situation was different, you would be right, in that after the first Gulf War, Saddam may have still had some viable WMD’s.

2011 looks to be more than the  last year before the end of civilization that the Mayans predicted it’s also looking to be an AMAZING year for comic book movies. With long dormant franchises kicking up like The Avengers and Justice League, we may actually get to see some of our favorite non X-Men superheroes in live action roles instead of countless children’s animated features by the “Golden Year” comes to pass.

I am relieved to read however that there is NO WAY IN HELL that the rumor of Jack Black playing the live action role of GREEN LANTERN. WTF??? Even considering Jack Black is a decent (to be nice) actor… actually I don’t know if what he does would be considered acting. It’s more like really long stand up with an enormous budget and no brick wall stage in the background… well; maybe he did a little in King Kong but nothing that presents him as Green Lantern worthy. Someone was quoted as saying it would be a “Zany comedy version a la THE MASK”… I’m sure many of you won’t agree but the mask is one of my #1 most hated movies of all time and I would seriously cry if someone screwed over the Green Lantern mythology that bad. It would be like having MATT DAMON and BEN AFLEK play Kirk and Spock in the upcoming Star Trek movie from JJ Abrams and his company “Bad Robot”, which was once upon a time rumored as well.

Star Trek will be coming out a couple years before 2011 but I think it definitely deserves a mention. The new crew of the enterprise will be headed up by Chris Pine (one of the actors nobody knew in Smokin’ Aces) and Heroes own Zachary Quinto. The casting directors did go the way of comedy a bit with Simon Peg (Sean of the Dead) as Scotty and John Cho (Harold and Kumar) as Sulu. Poor Sulu just seems to attract closet homos for some reason. Leonard Nemoy will be returning as an old Spock, but our beloved original Kirk William Shatner will not be returning. Just Google why he won’t if you’re that interested, I don’t have nearly enough room to go into his and JJ Abrams little YouTube bitch fight. I hope they have everything liftable glued down from the sticky fingers of Wynona Ryder cast in the role of Spock’s human mother though… I wonder if she still does that…

Now back to 2011, the long rumored Justice League movie and The Avengers (the Marvel one, not the weird one with Uma Therman and Sean Connery that nobody watched 10 years ago). Although no actors (or solid characters or villains, for that matter) have been confirmed both movies should be pretty cool if they fallow the current superhero trend. From the movies released prior to the 2011 releases we can pretty much guess that characters such as Superman, Batman, the Green Lantern, and the Flash will show up in the Justice League movie and maybe a super sexy Wonder Woman because that sausage party is in DEFINITE need of a Hag.

As any true nerd knows the path for The Avengers has already been laid. With the recent releases of Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk (the good one) also came hints from a Samuel L Jackson dressed in a solo eye-patched Nick Fury after the credits on Iron Man and a HULK cameo of former drunkard and druggie turned amazingly good actor Robert Downy Jr. as his Tony Stark role in much the same manner.

However I am honestly pretty shocked (I don’t know why anymore…) that they will be bringing in – get this – THE MANDARIN as the villain in the upcoming sequel to Iron Man. The… MANDARIN… Why don’t they just say the big slanty-eyed CHI– … (ouch, no…). Given, when The Mandarin first showed up in comic books China, as well as anything communist and Asian were both feared and mocked by American media. However Flash Gordon’s Ming the Merciless was made into a completely non-Asian blonde Caucasian for the 2007 TV series and Ming is just a loosely Asian name… the original character was the embodiment of a racial slur but they managed to clean it up for the movie. How do you get around a name like “the Mandarin” though? Especially considering the comic book’s portrayal of him wasn’t much different in appearance than Ming as far as horribly outdated Asian stereotypes go but this just SCREAMS renewal of ignorance to me. I’m hopeful that they can find a way to do it at least semi-tastefully but the whole thing just screams train wreck to me.

So far with the recent renewals of the Iron Man, Batman, Superman, and The Hulk Man (it just sounds better with the others, ok?) they’ve been on a pretty good roll. I’ve already started counting down until 2012 for other apocalyptic reasons, so at least there’ll be some good stuff to watch in the meantime.

„Pro-Klima-Strom 2011“ heißt der neue Tarif von RWE und ist damit der erste Tarif für Privatkunden, dessen Strom hauptsächlich aus Atomkraftwerken stammt. Der Kunde bekommt bei diesem Angebot 68 Prozent Atomstrom und 32 Prozent Strom, der aus Wasserkraftanlagen stammt. Beides sehr emissionsarme Herstellungsweisen von Strom, daher auch „Pro Klima Strom“. Bei der Erzeugung von einer Kilowattstunde „Pro-Klima-Strom“ würden nur 0,0018 Gramm radioaktiver Abfall entstehen, die Kohlendioxidemissionen liegen bei Null - wirbt der Konzern. Zum Vergleich: Im Jahr 2006 fielen durchschnittlich für jede erzeugte Kilowattstunde Strom in Deutschland 0,0008 Gramm radioaktiver Abfall und 520 Gramm Kohlendioxidemissionen an.

Aktuell ist der „Pro-Klima-Tarif“ erstaunlicherweise teurer als der RWE-Grundversorgungstarif, dafür gibt es eine Preisgarantie für die nächsten drei Jahre. Die anderen Stromtarife des Energieversorgers werden wahrscheinlich ab Januar steigen.
RWE möchte als einer der größten Kernkraftsbetreiber in Deutschland wohl Werbung für die Verlängerung der Laufzeiten der eigenen Kraftwerke machen. Bleiben die gesetzlichen Vorschriften wie gehabt, wird RWE spätestens 2011 seine Reaktoren vom Netz nehmen müssen.

For Iron Range Democratic Rep. Jim Oberstar, chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the path is suddenly wider for a huge multibillion-dollar stimulus package — half of which includes jobs-creating road, bridge and rail initiatives that already have been blessed by his committee.

“The Obama presidency dramatically changes the landscape,” said Oberstar, who also is pushing for new high-speed rail lines connecting the Twin Cities to Chicago and Duluth.

Whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, you’ve got to be excited about Minnesota building commuter and inter-city rail. In fact, the reason it’s been “successful” so far, has been bi-partisan support:

“Restoration of passenger rail from the Twin Ports to Minneapolis has been our goal for a long time,” said St. Louis County Commissioner Steve Raukar, chairman of the Minneapolis-Duluth/Superior Passenger Rail Alliance.

“The news of $1.1 million in federal dollars [a recent grant] moves us that much closer to completion.”

Raukar credited the bi-partisan support and effort by Congressional leaders, including U.S. Sens. Norm Coleman, R, and Amy Klobuchar, DFL, of Minnesota and DFLer Congressman Jim Oberstar of Minnesota’s Eighth District, and Wisconsin Democrat Congressman David Obey.

A year-long study to begin in January 2009 will set the groundwork for engineering and designing the project. Without glitches in federal or state funding, Northern Lights Express could be operational in 2010 or 2011.
My carpool partner made an observation tonight on the way home from St. Paul: He said he realized he’d be able to take the train from Cambridge to go to a Twins game. And take it home again. My father commutes to Minneapolis from Cambridge every day (with a carpooler), but he thinks a commuter-friendly train going to Minneapolis might make him consider putting off retirement.

I’m waiting for the day in 2011, when I can ride my bike to the station, grab a coffee, hop aboard and open my laptop on the ride into work.

Ok, so when I received the notification of a leaked image of the 2011 Focus, I had / have mixed emotions. As the following story suggests, this little fighter will have the build quality, efficiency, gadgetry & much more of many of it’s larger rivals & siblings. But the downside? Well, from the CGI, the front looks butt ugly! Hopefully the finished car will look better… But, I’ll let you be the judge…

The heat is on in the compact hatch sector – Auto Express has learned that Ford is readying a dramatic new Focus to go head-to-head with Vauxhall’s forthcoming Astra.

Boasting a wild new look – dominated by an outrageous grille – it will be a real head-turner, and is set to polarise opinion like never before.

Power comes from the very latest EcoBoost range of turbocharged engines, while the cabin will feature an all-new BMW iDrive-style control system. As with the Mondeo, the Focus will head further upmarket with greater emphasis on quality – as well as a higher price tag than the current generation.

And that’s only the tip of the iceberg. According to our sister magazine in Germany, Auto Bild, the five-door model pictured here will be joined by a Focus-based coupé. This will have a bold three-door shape to rival the likes of the VW Scirocco and Renault’s new Mégane Coupé. It will help differentiate the Focus range and appeal to younger buyers in the process.

However, it won’t be the Focus or even a new coupé that spearheads Ford’s attack on the compact family car class. While the third-generation model will be launched in late 2010, the blue oval will go into battle first in 2009, with a replacement for the C-MAX compact people carrier.

As we revealed in Issue 1,023, the new MPV will be available in both five and seven-seater form for the first time. Debuting a dramatic new face, it will preview the third-generation Focus and be based on Ford’s new compact family platform. And as you can see from this illustration, the new face is certainly daring. Designers have consigned the current car’s upper and lower air intakes to the history books in favour of a striking horseshoe-shaped radiator grille.

Other stand-out styling cues include the prominent bonnet, with lines that run from the base of the windscreen to form an overhanging focal point for the Ford badge. Then there are the huge headlights and further air intakes in the lower part of the front bumper, which house integrated foglights. Elsewhere, there’s a more evolutionary styling approach, with influences from the latest Fiesta in the angular C-pillars and chunky stance.

Inside, the cabin will employ even higher quality materials than the current version, but the big news from our German sources is that Ford is developing a dashboard control system similar to BMW’s iDrive and Mercedes’ COMAND set-ups. This will be one of the car’s highlights, as it will help to reduce clutter and improve the Focus’ ergonomics at the same time.

There are important new developments under the bonnet, too. Just as the Vauxhall Astra will boast a fresh line-up of small capacity turbocharged engines, the third-generation Focus will feature Ford’s new EcoBoost range. Power for entry-level models will come from a 1.0-litre turbo four-cylinder unit with either 89bhp (66kW) or 108bhp (80kW). The majority of sales will be taken by a new 1.6-litre turbo available in both 148bhp (110kW) and 178bhp (~130kW) form. These new units will offer great performance and low CO2 emissions, too.

Our sources have revealed that Ford also has two new oil-burners up its sleeve: a 1.6-litre TDCi with 89bhp (66kW), 108bhp (80kW) or 128bhp (95kW), and a 2.0-litre with 168bhp (125kW) or 197bhp (145kW). All engines get manual gearboxes as standard, although Ford will expand the use of its PowerShift twin-clutch transmission.

The Focus will go on sale in late 2010, with a three-door coupé arriving in the same year, plus an estate and CC coupé-cabrio appearing in 2011.

Armado con un escudo indestructible, se convirtió en un símbolo de los esfuerzos de la guerra, dentro y fuera de los comics.

SINGAPORE : Now that Singapore has established itself as a premier venue for Formula 1, get ready for the biggest and fastest thing on two wheels.

MotoGP, the motorbike equivalent of F1, is set to make its debut here as early as 2011 when Singapore’s first permanent race track is completed. Speaking from his Madrid office in Spain, MotoGP boss Carmelo Ezpeleta told TODAY that his company Dorna Sports, which holds the commercial rights to MotoGP, has signed an agreement with a Singaporean company to stage a round of the 18-leg world championships here, when the planned track is completed.

The 61-year-old Spaniard, who is to Moto-GP what Bernie Ecclestone is to Formula 1, also said that Singapore is an important part of the sport’s growth plans, as it is a key financial centre in the middle of an important region of the world.

Although TODAY is unable to name the Singapore promoter, who sealed the deal in Madrid about two months ago, due to contractual sensitivities, Ezpeleta said: “Yes, I can confirm that we have signed an agreement with a promoter to stage a round of the motorbike world championships in Singapore.

“But it depends when the permanent track you are going to build will be completed. I understand it will be up in three years’ time, so you can have a race there as early as 2011, if not 2012.”

Matching Formula 1

MotoGP motorbikes can reach top speeds of about 340kmh, compared to 370kmh for F1 cars, and Dorna claim they have an average television audience of about 350 million viewers across 200 countries for each race.

In terms of economic impact, organisers of the MotoGP event at Laguna Seca, California, say the annual event there contributes about US$100 million (S$146 milion) into the Monterey area surrounding the track, which is on par with spill-off revenues generated by F1 races.

But unlike F1 - with some Grands Prix held on street circuits, including Singapore - MotoGP hold all their races on purpose-built racing circuits.

Teo Ser Luck, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, said at last month’s F1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix that the permanent circuit in Changi is on track to be completed in 2011. Although 20 hectares have been allocated for the project, he also said the Government is willing to consider releasing more land should there be a need.

And despite the difficult economic climate, Singapore Sports Council chief executive officer Oon Jin Teik said that plans for the track will go ahead. “The Changi racetrack is a major component of SSC’s overall motor sports industry development plan in Singapore and it is intended to be funded by the private sector,” said Oon.

“The current financial climate will have an impact on the types and number of bidders that we will be able to attract. Nonetheless, it can only serve to improve their quality and proposals. Weaker players are unlikely to participate while stronger ones will need to put together even better proposals that will enable them to secure financial backing. Based on the feedback we’re receiving, potential investors are still upbeat about the project.”

Friendlier Ticket Prices

In their regulations for 2008, the sport’s world governing body, the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), has stipulated that tracks hosting MotoGP races must be at least 3.5km long.

But Ezpeleta would like to see them longer than that. “We prefer a race track with a length of at least 4km to 4.5km, but safety is our top priority,” he said.

“It would be good also if the track could hold at least 70,000 people, but I am leaving that to the promoter in Singapore to decide.

“Asia is important to MotoGP’s growth and Singapore is at the centre of it, that is why we want to hold a round there. But like I said, my agreement with the promoter in Singapore is subject to the track being built.”

There is an added attraction to MotoGP, as ticket prices are far more affordable. At the Malaysian MotoGP race earlier this month, a seat at the main grandstand cost about RM230 (S$95), compared to about RM1,800 for the same seat at the Formula 1 race there in April this year.

But Ezpeleta, who has an “unwritten agreement” with Ecclestone to ensure their events don’t clash, said: “If Singapore’s F1 race is in September, we will have no choice but to plan a MotoGP race to be held there in early 2011.” -

Pour son premier match du groupe 2A, les Diables Noirs ont comme adversaire l’Ukraine. Leur dernière confrontation s’était soldée par une victoire des Belges en Ukraine même. Les autres nations de ce groupe sont la Pologne, la République Tchèque, la Moldavie. Un match a déjà été joué et l’Ukraine s’est imposée sur le fil face à la Pologne (qui monte du groupe 2B) 13-12. Le 16 novembre, les Diables se déplaceront en Moldavie.

Ce match fait aussi partie de la partie qualificative pour la prochaine Coupe du Monde. Le Mondial 2011 est l’objectif à court terme de l’équipe belge tout comme la montée en D1. Les Diables avaient raté la montée de 5 points (au goal average avec l’Allemagne). La Belgique est d’ailleurs favorite de ce groupe et est la nation la mieux classée au ranking mondial.

‘Los Vengadores’, el colosal proyecto de Marvel para juntar en una misma película a todos sus personajes más emblemáticos, comienza a dar sus primeros pasos. Y lo hace de la mejor forma posible, con la primera confirmación oficial para su reparto protagonista que no es otra que la de uno de los hombres más solicitados de Hollywood, Robert Downey Jr., que retomará su papel de Iron Man en esta cinta cuyo estreno está previsto para el 15 de julio del 2011. Antes, el 7 de mayo de 2010, volveremos a verle enfundado en la armadura de rojo y oro del hombre de hierro en la secuela de ‘Iron Man’.

“Será la primera vez que se reúna al grupo de superhéroes de Marvel Cómics, ya que veremos juntos a Iron Man, Capitán América, Thor y Hulk, entre otros, los cuales deberán unir sus fuerzas a fin de vencer al enemigo más temible al que jamás se hayan enfrentado”, señala el comunicado difundido por Marvel Entertainment en el que el estudio confirmó que Downey Jr., que ahora mismo está rodando la nueva versión Sherlock Holmes a las órdenes de Guy Ritchie, dará vida a Tony Stark en un total de cuatro películas, la trilogía de ‘Iron Man’ y la cinta de ‘Los Vengadores’.

Marvel Studios también confirmó la presencia de Don Cheadle –que sustituye a Terrence Howard en el papel de Coronel Rhodes, alias ‘Maquina de Guerra’– tanto en la secuela de el hombre de hierro como en la reunión de superhéroes de Marvel. “Estamos muy excitados ante la posibilidad de trabajar con un actor de tanto talento como Don. Y detrás de las cámaras también hay movimiento, ya que Jon Favreau estará inmerso en ‘Los Vengadores’ como productor ejecutivo. Es lógico que el director de la saga ‘Iron Man’ esté dentro del proyecto ya que fue precisamente en esta película en la que comenzó a gestarse ‘Los Vengadores’, cuando tras los títulos de crédito, Samuel L. Jackson -que es de esperar que también aparecerá en ‘Los Vengadores’- aparecía entre las sombras caracterizado como Nick Fury, otro personaje del universo Marvel, y se ponía en contacto con el millonario Tony Stark para recordarle que él no era el único superhéroe del mundo y presentarle la ‘iniciativa Avenger’.

Con los fichajes confirmados de Robert Downey Jr. y Don Cheadle, a Marvel todavía le quedan muchas interrogantes por resolver. La más importante, al margen de elegir un director de garantías que pueda lidiar con este ‘overbooking’ de superhéroes, es elegir protagonistas para ‘Thor’ (julio de 2010) y ‘El Capitán América’ (mayo de 2011). Dos cintas para las que han sonado megaestrellas como los de Daniel Craig, Brad Pitt, Will Smith o Leonardo DiCaprio y que deben presentar al público a los personajes que harán equipo con Iron Man, Maquina de Guerra y Hulk en ‘Los Vengadores’.

Did youal know that Wellington recently won the rights to host the 2011 Taekwon-Do World Championships?! No? Well it did! How exciting is that!?

“Nick Lourantos, the chairman of 2011 World Championships, says the decision to host the event in the Capital was not a difficult one. “Wellington is really a perfect fit for this event - it’s a compact, exciting city and the locals have a great reputation for getting behind events.”

Combining elements of combat technique, self-defence and philosophy, Taekwon-Do is (in terms of practitioners) the most popular martial art in the world.

With more than 3000 students in New Zealand, we have a thriving Taekwon-Do scene and, going by previous results (finishing third overall in 2007), New Zealand is likely to field one of stronger teams at the 2011 Championships.”

To celebrate the International Taekwon-Do Foundation of New Zealand has organised a Taekwon-Do demonstration at 2.30pm today (Thursday) in Civic Square… Unfortunately I will be chained up behind my desk, but if you’re free you should totally go, and tell me all about it!
