Details:
Feel the Planet Earth CIFIAL Design Award,  is organized with the aim of promoting design, both as a culture, and as a tool, capable of proposing innovative solutions to man’s approach to his social and natural environment.

The object of this contest is to promote the exchange of ideas and spread the values of design, offering new approaches to tasks products and services, visualizing, interpreting technologies, etc. Its theme arises from the day-to-day concerns around the huge transformations that are presently taking place in our society economy culture and environment, and which the present paradigms seem to be unable to deal with.

The goal of this award is to identify and disseminate design contributions to help build a path towards sustainability on issues that we all face, and must urgently discuss. It will be run on a two-phase selection based firstly on an Abstract submission and then a further development for those selected. The theme for the 2008 Award will be the over-dependence on non- renewable sources of energy in the current pattern of development.

Any design work on this issue, whether a vehicle, a public transport service, a cooking device or a lighting system, a water pump or any other practical or theoretical contribution, as well as a synopsis from an MsC or PhD dissertation, can be proposed.

“Ethon” an Entrepreneurship Conclave” is aimed at creating a supportive ecosystem for budding entrepreneurs and students. Ethon is a meeting and sharing ground for entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, angel investors, prospective entrepreneurs, students and industry colleagues with “Entrepreneurship” as the connecting theme.

This is open to anyone (students or industry participants) who has a viable business plan. The different phases of National Business plan are as follows:

2nd round: The short listed 15 business plan would be allocated to selected mentors of IFIM’s Centre for entrepreneurship (CFE). They would be a panel of entrepreneurs, VCs and academia experts. One mentor would be allotted to each short listed plan and help in developing the b-plan.

3rd round: December 15th and 16th, the mentored business plans using PPT’s would be presented to a mentor panel at the IFIM Business’s School’s campus.

Teams are challenged to design an energy efficient building that utilizes hydrogen produced from renewable sources for its as much of its energy needs as feasible. Although your design should aim to address the needs of SUNY-Farmingdale, a great design will have key elements that are applicable to other buildings around the world. The hydrogen technologies and systems you select for your project plan must be commercially available and possible to implement for practical, real-world use by June 2009.

Jagriti Yatra is an annual train journey that will take 400 of India’s highly motivated youth between the ages of 18-25 on a sixteen day national odyssey, introducing them to unsung heroes of India. The aim is to awaken the spirit of entrepreneurship – both social and economic within India’s youth by exposing them to individuals and institutions that are developing unique solutions to India’s challenges. Through this national event we will inspire them to lead and develop institutions nationally and within their communities.

Youth are increasingly celebrity conscious, while those Indians who have made lasting social and economic impact are often not visible as role models. The Jagriti Yatra aims to showcase inspiring success stories by taking young Indians to meet these “real heroes”. These role models, located around the country particularly in rural and semi urban India will demonstrate how social and economic enterprise has succeeded. We propose to engage the national media to act as a multiplier of this message by projecting it to the millions of Indians who will watch this journey unfold across the country, and become an annual event. With this we seek to awaken the aspiration of ‘being the change’ in the youth of India.

Jagriti Yatra aims at having extensive impact. Raising awareness in college campuses assisted by media campaigns with jingles, slogans and posters crafted to appeal to youth in metros but also the vast non-English speaking heartland, including reliance on SMS and mobile networks to reach beyond those who are not connected through internet.

Distinguished mentors from various fields will also be selected to come on board as facilitators, upon invitation by this distinguished panel. We also intend to attract eminent personalities are honored by the confirmation of participation of Kiran Bedi, Mark Tully and possibly Dr Rajendra Pachauri, all of whom took part in the last Yatra.
