So PovertyPorn’s been to Strada maybe, three times and its never been anything short of god-awful. The first time, there was sand in the mussels (I know, authentic), then the pasta was cold, then the final time, the food was okay, but it took us 5 tries and 30 minuites to pay the bill. In the end, we just got up and made like we were leaving…

But cheap(ish) food is cheap(ish) food, and Strada, like every other credit crunched restaurant with an increasingly desperate parant company (we’re looking at you, Pasta Hut) is offering 2-for-1 mains.

If you like your pizza overpriced, and your Italian restaurants all faux cosmopolitan (and we do), Pizza Express is luring punters in with 2-for-1 main courses. PovertyPorn went with a party of 8, and our overfriendly waitress didn’t blink when we offered up four vouchers.

Of course, she had just hammed up a veggie order with actual ham, but the point remains: cheap(ish), tony pizza.

These are all new authors for me, except James Siegel. I read the novel Derailed (which the movie was based on but came no where close to the book). It was amazing, so I have faith this other one of his will be great too.

Turns out I tried a bunch of new (to me) restaurants this weekend!

Imperia — the sushi happy hour was super-packed, too crowded really, and the sushi was passed apps, which means my friends and I each got about three pieces. They were tasty–cream cheese and eel, a crunchy take on spicy tuna–but I don’t know that I’d be inspired to go back. Their weekday happy hour (4 to 7) does boast 2 for 1 apps, so it might be worth a light dinner stop.

Sullivan’s — because the sushi happy hour was so packed, we hit Sullivan’s next door for their Thursday night $5 bar entrees and $5 specialty martinis. We didn’t end up eating (though we later made a pit stop at the Torchy’s Tacos trailer next to Little Woodrow’s with good results–fabulous, spicy queso!!) there, but we plowed through their martini menu! The fellow in the group enjoyed the Dirty CEO martini, a dirty vodka martini with blue cheese-stuffed olives. The ladies alternated between the Caprihna (a Brazilian concoction my friend described as “lime-y with a banana aftertaste”), the Mango Tango, and the Goodnight Kiss, a new take on the chocolate martini, as it doesn’t use creamy chocolate liquer, which makes it taste much lighter and less calorie-laden (not to assume it isn’t, it just tastes like it isn’t), plus it’s topped off–er, um, bottomed–with an actual Hershey’s kiss in the bottom of the glass. [sidenote: I don't think the beef is free range. I asked the bartender and he proceeded to tell me that you can't raise cows in cages. Um ...]

Thai Tara — A friend and I went for lunch yesterday, and it was quite good. It’s the random little restaurant on West Sixth, across the street from Union Park. I hear it has a great business lunch crowd, and perhaps a lunch buffet, but as it was a holiday weekend Saturday, there were only a few tables occupied. We started with some spring rolls (better than Thai Passion’s, and served with a MUCH better sauce), and a soup, the Tom-Ka I think. It’s a coconut milk, chile-lime soup with delicious flavor, though I only had a bite or two. Then we had two traditionally Thai dishes: Pad Thai with shrimp and Green Curry with beef (don’t worry, I didn’t eat the beef … I doubt it’s free range). The Pad Thai was tasty and relatively light; the green curry was spicy, creamy, and delicious. I also tried a little bit of mixing the two; that isn’t recommended. I will definitely try Thai Tara again, and before Thai Passion!

Remember I’m a bit of a Thai food rookie. Does anyone else have an opinion on the Thai Food Wars?

Amazingly delicious sushi. It won Best of Citysearch in 2006 for sushi and Chinese food, yet you never hear/read anyone talk about it. It’s on Jefferson right at 35th, so it’s pretty close to downtown, but it doesn’t get any of the hype Maiko/Kenichi/Uchi get. But it is SO GOOD.

We went for Mom’s birthday dinner last night, and four people at our table ordered Chinese food, while my brother and I ordered sushi. Their Chinese is good too, but their sushi is better. We had two of the special rolls: the White Dragon (can’t remember what fish was on top) and the Black Dragon (eel), both were excellent. The White Dragon was one of the best sushi rolls I’ve had in a long time, and the Black Dragon converted my brother to liking eel. We also ordered the Spider Roll–excellent as usual–and one of the best spicy tuna rolls I’ve ever had. My brother loved it so much he asked the waiter what the “spicy” was. He thinks it’s Rooster Sauce.

They don’t usually have a big dinner crowd, so they must make a fortune at lunch. They have fairly cheap Bento Boxes (sushi combos with miso soup and salad) for lunchtime, and they deliver, so that’s some of the secret. I also hear they have a great happy hour–I’ve never been–with something like 2 for 1 prices and cheap sake. I’ll report back on that if I ever make it to happy hour.

I’m letting you in on my secret … let me know your thoughts if you go!

All bookings which are completed in the month of February will be on your February invoice, but wait until the 7th of March before checking for any free hours, discounts, special offers or surcharges.
On the 7th of March you will receive an email from Flexicar stating that your invoice is finalised and is ready for viewing on line. Login to your Flexicar account and go to the ‘My Payments’ section and check your invoice total. We will then charge your invoice by direct debit on the 14th of March.

Today’s hot chick is Charisma Carpenter. I really don’t know what she does, per se, but I do know she was back in the news recently because she broke up with her husband. I think she’s an actress-slash-model.

There are two things I really like about Charisma, outside of her obvious assets. One is the wealth of nude photos available. The second are her areolas and nipples. I’m not usually a guy who focuses on this particular body part, but Charisma’s are a deep brown, and they intrigue me.

I don’t know whats up with the Warhol shit; just focus on the pic to the left.

I also realized that I owe everybody a hot chick; because of the short week last week, I didn’t put one up. To make up for it, I’m posting arguably the hottest chick on Friday Hot Chick history. I give you…….

Over the last month we found some incredibly great webpages and comics and we do not even know what we did without them! So, as we do not have anything finished to show you, take a look at these great guys (+ incredible christmas offers!):

BANAL PIG COMICS

For just 4 £ you can get Steven Tillotson’s Banal Pig Comic. It is wonderfully banal, absurd and just funny, but do see for yourself as I do have to save some words of praise for the other contenders in the run for your christmas money! And while you are at it, Steve Tillotson just recently posted a strip a day over the last 28 days. You can find it here at the Banal Pig’s Web Funnies.

TRAINS ARE…MINT!

Made by Oliver East on actual paper with actual watercolour. You know, these things you need actual brushes for. Crazy, isn’t it? Just as crazy as camping out in the wild Norwegian wilderness with just a world radio transmitter and a copy of “How to Stay Alive in the Woods” by Bradford Angeir you might say. Well, with Trains Are…Mint! #4 you can get both!

Check his webpage at Rolling Stock Press for great christmas offers!

APPALLING NONSENSE

Now what Gareth Brookes has created here, I am not sure if it makes me happy or very, very sad, it is the adventures of MAN MAN.

You do have to check this out yourself as words just simply fail me when it comes to Man Man. Go visit his website now, there is a lot to see and buy. Especially the Christmas Special Offer looks very tempting.

So, what are you still doing here? There’s christmas shopping to do! We are writing our orders right now!

I have started a 2 for 1 rares folder, which is loaded with older rares that are not so competitive

I have started a 2 for 1 rares folder, which is loaded with older rares that are not so competitive and people will not pay money for, these rares are then traded for any random two type 2/standard rares that the other party chooses. I then put the newly acquired back into the 2 for 1 folder. Over time this should effectively turn a folder of trashy rares into a much bigger folder of trashy rares which can then be traded or sold in bulk at a profit.

So far I have turned 9 rares into 18 rares.

I also plan to do a similar thing in the future with foil commons/uncommons and also foil lands.
