I occasionally have fantasies of Julie Delpy involving sticky summer afternoons, Sartre’s writings, 400 Blows, apple juice and berets. Don’t ask. Face it, the woman is brilliant and beautiful; brilliant enough to be associated with the likes of Kieslowski and Linklater and beautiful enough to make any man weak in the knees. So there - that’s out of the way.

Her directorial venture, 2 Days in Paris is an outstanding film; an achievement in black comedy that I’d go so far as to compare with the best of Woody Allen. Remember that scene in Annie Hall where Allen’s Alvy Singer makes awkward conversation with Annie’s new found friends in showbiz? 2 Days in Paris is a lot like that except the awkward conversation lasts 2 days and includes borderline psychotic parents, mentally unstable siblings and flat out disturbing exes.

Jack, a left wing American (‘A blow job is actually a big political event in the grand scheme of things. After all it was a blow job that destroyed any chance at a healthy democracy.’) who laments the anti-intellectualism rampant in his country accompanies his French girlfriend of two years, Marion to Paris where he meets her parents and a bevy of ex boyfriends, some of whom I feel could very well be just exaggerated caricatures. As people around him converse animatedly in French, he is forced to make up his own meanings from Marion’s body language and revelations of her rather colorful sex life prior to their relationship.

His suspicions slowly give way to hostility and the film ends with a beautifully cathartic moment that never feels too forced. The film is not so much about culture clashes as it is about the false pretense of honesty in relationships; about the little half-truths and ideas that people carry to and from every relationship.

The writing is sharp and crisp and there are some genuine laugh out loud moments especially the one where Jack says he’s more of Val Kilmer fan than a Doors fan while visiting Jim Morrison’s grave. It’s those little pieces of pop culture strewn about, genuine male angst and the presence of the lovely Ms Delpy that made this one of those films I just had to rant about.

This is a sweet little comedy about two lovers in Paris. It is quite different from the normal love stories. Very straightforward, a lot of dialogue and two main characters who are absolutely believable. Not too cheesy or overly romantic. Genuine people in a real setting. The American Jack (Adam Goldberg) and the originally Parisian Marion (Julie Delpy) have been together for two years. After a lovely trip to Venice they stay at her parents’ house in Paris for two days. Sounds romantic?! Well, Marion has a lot of ex-lovers, and to Jack’s annoyance, they all seem to be in Paris.

The dialogue is absolutely hilarious. Marion is constantly talking, while Jack is moaning non-stop. Although very annoying, Adam Goldberg is truly wonderful and awkwardly funny.

Written, directed, produced and acted by Julie Delpy. What an accomplishment! It is definitely a film worth watching. It is so refreshing to see a film about a couple who are already going out together. I am so tired of falling-in-love stories.

American network ABC has picked up five shows to premiere mideason. According to Wikipedia:

In North American Television a midseason replacement is a television show that premieres in the second half of the traditional television season, usually between January and April. Midseason replacements usually take place after a show that was in the fall schedule was canceled, put on hiatus or had a shorter season than other shows and the timeslot needs to be filled. Some midseason replacements get canceled like the shows they replaced, but others have gone on to be very successful.

First up we have Castle, a drama created by Andrew W. Marlowe (Hollow Man) starring Nathan Fillion (Waitress), Monet Mazur (The House Bunny) and Stana Katic (Quantum Of Solace). Fillion stars as a writer of horror novels who helps the NYPD on some cases. Mmmh, sounds pretty standard but who knows? Castle’s pilot was directed by Rob Bowman (Elektra).

Next is The Unusuals, also a drama, created by Noah Hawley (6 episodes of Bones) and relating the daily happenings of a police station. The Unusuals stars Harold Perrineau (Lost), Adam Goldberg (2 Days In Paris), Amber Tamblyn (The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 1 & 2) and Jeremy Renner (28 Weeks Later), and its pilot was directed by Stephen Hopkins (The Reaping).

Third is Cupid, a drama created by Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars), who’ll be remaking his own, eponymous, failed show from 1998. Bobby Cannavale (Diminished Capacity) will play Trevor Hale, a man convinced he was sent to Earth by Zeus in order to make people love each other. Rounding up the cast are Camille Guaty (Las Vegas) and Sarah Paulson (Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip). It’s interesting that this project has been greenlighted as ABC is the network that cancelled the original show.

In fourth we have Better Off Ted, a comedy created by Victor Fresco (4 episodes of My Name Is Earl), about a morally upright man living in a morally corrupt world. The series stars Jay Harrington (Desperate Housewives) and Andrea Anders (The Class). The pilot was directed by creator’s relative Michael Fresco (12 episodes of Earl).

Last is Single With Parents, a comedy created by Kristin Newman (2 episodes of How I Met Your Mother) in which a thirty-something year old woman played by Alyssa Milano (Charmed) attempts to take control of her life by distancing herself from her family, friends and work. Beau Bridges (Stargate SG-1), Eric Winter (Days Of Our Lives), Amanda Detmer (What About Brian) and Stella Hudgens (Vanessa Hudgens’ sister) round up the cast. The pilot was directed by Michael Engler (6 episodes of 30 Rock).

I’ll give them all a try, but honestly, none of them seem that interesting to me, what do you think?

In related ABC news, it has been reported that Michelle Rodriguez (Battle In Seattle) will be back in an episode of Lost’s fifth season. Michelle’s character, Ana-Lucia Cortez, was introduced at the end of the popular show’s first season and played a prominent part in the second. It is unclear how Michelle’s appearance will play out, but knowing Lost, you can expect anything.

Star Wars: the clone wars
Director: Dave Filoni

Los expedientes secretos X, quiero creer (The X-files: I want to believe)

On y retrouve nos propres mimiques, notre propre image mise à

A travers l’histoire

Isteriškai prasidėjęs “2 Days in Paris” pasiekė kulminaciją Julie Delpy (ir jos personažo Marion) tėvo erotinėje galerijoje.

Especially in terms of movies. Sure, indie music and literature is great, but what’s been on my mind lately is Indie movies. Why? Because I’ve seen a lot of great ones that I would love to share with all of you.

Do you have any great indie movies that aren’t on the list below? Send us an e-mail with the name of the movie, and a brief summary/review that you’ve written.

Rocket Science: An endearing story about a high school kid with a terrible stuttering problem. It’s not like he doesn’t know what to say–you can see it in his eyes: he wants to say it, but his mouth motors aren’t working quite right and they’re preventing the words from coming out smoothly. But when he meets an interesting senior girl on the bus who asks him to join the debate team (because he’s “impaired”), he starts really trying to get rid of his problem, any way he can. In a humorous but slightly pathetic way, he tries out numerous methods suggested to him by the school therapist to get rid of his stutter before his big competition. And when his senior crush ditches him just days before the big event, he seeks revenge by finding her old debate partner, and learning more effective methods to get rid of his stutter. And although he never truly is free of his vocal impairment, he learns valuable and helpful lessons about life. A great movie for everyone (well…maybe not young kids), that is relatable, very funny, very endearing, but also very sad at the same time. It’s like you want to tell the kid that everything will be alright, really it will.

2 Days In Paris: NOT a family film. But a hilarious movie about a struggling couple on a “romantic” European vacation. The two decide to spend 2 days in Paris with the girlfriend’s parents, and all hell breaks loose. The paranoid boyfriend meets a healthy number of his girlfriend’s exes, and he becomes suspicious of her actions when he’s not around. A little investigating into his anger-driven girlfriend, and he confronts her dramatically in public about what he’s found: some rather obscene messages from one particular ex. A comedy about sex, relationships, trust and Paris, a great movie for anyone who could sit through the 40-Year-Old Virgin or Knocked Up without running out of the room embarrassed.

The Band’s Visit: This is an odd one. An Egyptian orchestra goes on a bus in hopes of arriving at their next tour destination, but instead they land in what seems to be the middle of nowhere. Reluctantly, they stay with the new people they’ve met at a small restaurant, and they all begin to become friends, more than friends, and closer altogether. Mostly following the paths of 2 specific band members, this is an endearing story about communication and destination. A wonderful family story with little quirky comedic moments and small sad scenes that make you feel sorry for the characters involved.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: A weird, weird film. But a great one. It’s not for younger kids though. Anyway. This movie is about another weird couple–an impulsive girl with ever-changing hair, and a shy man who can’t look a girl in the eye. There is a strange twist to this romantic story, however; after the girl erases her “boring” boyfriend from her memory using a special procedure, the erased gets back at her in a way by erasing her from his memory. But during the “operation”, he starts realizing how much he loved his ex, and his mind starts trying to run away from the invasive machine. Along with this bizarre love story, other love stories trail behind. This is a film that messes cleverly with time and reality. A great film when you want to want something unique, bizarre, visually appealing, and captivating.

szczerze polecam!

This one was rented out a few days ago.
Lucky it was allowed. We ran up a bill of over £100 after renting and then losing Superbad; not so good. Why they make you keep on paying once the dvd you lost has been paid for at least 4000 times, I don’t know. If they think that they’re getting it back after its been paid for enough times to feed Africa then they can go and watch High School Musical.
I rented out ‘2 Days in Paris’ and like Superbad I was actually shocked by the quality. For too long now we have had to endure films that have so much money poured into them, but give an end result of something a 5 year old could make with microsoft paint and some prozep - like Mission Impossible III - which, looking back on it, was made by a 5 year old man on a bit too much calpol (or brainwashing or whatever he takes). The film, 2 days in Paris, is like a classic Woody Allen film. I’m no film critc and I’m not going to make any attempt to be, but I will say this: I was suprised. Very suprised. It’s brilliant. You expect it to be your average-Aston-Kutcher-chick-flick but its on a hight level. Its French.

Being British I could hate em, but now and again you just have smile across the channel and wipe a little tear away from under your eye.

I just watched Naissance Des Pieuvres (Water Lillies). It’s about sexual confusion of teenage girls. I liked it. I didn’t know what it was about, beforehand, and if you watch the trailer, you wouldn’t know what it’s about either. That’s how they should market films, by showing you interesting images without any explanation of the plot or subject whatsoever. No, that’s not completely true. The trailer conveys sexy confusion, which is what this movie’s about.

I also saw 2 Days in Paris. This was Sunday. I liked it very much. It’s funny. It’s directed by Julie Delpy, the actress in the movie. I like her after having seen this. I recommend watching this movie too. If I were you, I would start by watching this one and then Water Lillies after a few days. 2 Days in Paris is a comedy.

Adam Goldberg is likable, as the over-intellectualized New Yorker in Paris. I have never seen The Hebrew Hammer, which he was also in. I’m glad I didn’t see that cause not knowing much about Adam Goldberg, other than from having seen him in a few episodes of Friends, made him feel fresh. That’s just me.

The movie feels very personal. I love the camera work. The story is about a Parisian, Julie Delpy, with her boyfriend in Paris.

Julie Delpy everywhere. Writer, director, actress. Wooow! Maybe if she had a dick, she would’ve played Jack as well. Briefly: pushing the limits. You want me to kill somebody, show me this movie. European sentimental cliche and crisis. In only two days the world changes and then reconnects. Well, cut the crap and delete this movie!

Street Kings ( 2008 )

Way too weak. Way Way Way. Expected much more from this movie. Keanu weak as always, Forrest nice as always, but it seemed that he is doing again the Last King of Scotland act. The story is shallow and predictable. Recommend it only in Dolby in theaters. Mediocre.

Football and Snooker

O’Sullivan and Maguire do their best. Hope they will be the finalists.

UPDATE: Ronnie did a wonderful 147 in the last frame against Mark Williams. Leang and Swail did a great match, with twists and errors, and the young-gun is in!

FC Bayern: Stuttgart is a weak-ass mf with 1-4 (of course, in this season and match). Ribery had some terrific goals, Bayern is almost champion. As the American commentators said on the streaming: THE SHAKE, THE FAKE, THE MAKE. The Romanian Sport Klub had the rights for the first half. Completely disappointing.

Unfortunately, no videos available on Youtube, because: ” This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by VfB Stuttgart 1893 e.V.” Shame!

“It always fascinated me how people go from loving you madly to nothing at all, nothing. It hurts so much. When I feel someone is going to leave me, I have a tendency to break up first before I get to hear the whole thing. Here it is. One more, one less. Another wasted love story. I really love this one. When I think that it’s over, that I’ll never see him again like this… well yes, I’ll bump into him, we’ll meet our new boyfriend and girlfriend, act as if we had never been together, then we’ll slowly think of each other less and less until we forget each other completely. Almost. Always the same for me. Break up, break down. Drunk up, fool around. Meet one guy, then another, fuck around. Forget the one and only. Then after a few months of total emptiness start again to look for true love, desperately look everywhere and after two years of loneliness meet a new love and swear it is the one, until that one is gone as well. There’s a moment in life where you can’t recover any more from another break-up. And even if this person bugs you sixty percent of the time, well you still can’t live without him. And even if he wakes you up every day by sneezing right in your face, well you love his sneezes more than anyone else’s kisses.“

P.S. Mi-a amintit de “Before Sunrise” si “Before Sunset“…

Here’s a movie that will brighten your day. Julie Delpy has not only written and directed this sharp cutting comedy but also cast herself as Marion, a strong headed, liberal, Paris-born photographer, who lives most of the year in New York with her generally grumpy and neurotic boyfriend Jack.

After a week in Venice that didn’t go exactly as planned, Jack spending most of the time capturing the trip instead of experiencing it, they stay the last two days of their holiday in Paris.

The following screwball antics will undoubtedly remind you of Woody Allen’s famous comedies and make you laugh out loud, whether it’s Jack’s jealous reactions to Marion’s flirtatious ex-lovers or Marion’s passionate verbal attacks targeted at ignorant and racist taxi drivers.

Julie Delpy and Adam Goldberg are perfectly matched in this movie and their characters reflect the views and mood that many people can relate to.

Also keep an eye out for a brief and hilarious appearance by German ‘Goodbye Lenin‘ star Daniel Bruehl as a ‘fairy’ with an animal rights agenda.

I watched 2 Days in Paris earlier today. I thought it could be a mix of witty commentary and love story that would inspire me to change some aspect of my behavior. It almost was.

It was written by Julie Deply and co-starred Adam Goldberg, who has been seen on Entourage and playing other bit parts on the big and small screen. I throughly enjoyed the ending monologue by Julie Deply’s character. I thought it held a lot of truth to the way people enter relationships and shelter their partner from truths.

Some scenes in the movie were quite funny. They mostly involved Goldberg’s character getting into awkward situations and venting about his girlfriend.

Overall, if you are looking for a movie that’s not in the mainstream and has a little bit of international flavor. You might want to check this one out.
