I decided it was probably best not to update for the sake of updating and had nothing to say really after the Fenerbahce game.

We played an average game and Fabianski was able to get another start and even though he was shakey he didn’t concede so that’s not bad.

Now onto what I consider what was important.

The victory over Man United.

Why was it important though?

Sure we won, everyone is aware of that but I consider it important for 3 key reasons.

1)      Fabianski had to come on for an injured Almunia. When he came on we were 2-0 up. A goal was scored against him (a cracker I must say) and if he had let in another and we had lost another 2 goal lead his morale would drop greatly and he’d probably be a wreck for the Carling Cup game (which I’m expecting he will start in).

2)      We proved we could still win even with a severely weakened side, just a shame we can’t do it against other opponents as well with a stronger side.

3)      Bendtner had a fairly average match, he held the ball up well but if we had lost, the fact he was a lone striker and clearly bricking it throughout the match, he’d have put a lot of the blame on himself and, like Fabianski, would have become severely demoralised.

It was an interesting game, a tense game and a very enjoyable game. I can’t remember the last time I’ve watched a top 4 clash and been that entertained. So often they’re either scrappy or dull (or both) but what we got were 3 fantastic strikes and some fantastic moments.

I’m looking forward to the Carling Cup match against Wigan.

It’ll be interesting to see if Bendtner starts or not (seeing as he’s our first teams best choice for a striker at the moment since Van Persie decided to be an idiot and Adebayor is out for the month). If he doesn’t I am going to be very curious as to who we play along with Vela and I’m hoping it’s Jay Simpson as I’ve always liked him and think it’s time he got a few more chances.

I’m also interest to see if Bischoff gets a start and how well he does if so.

It will hopefully be a good match and the young guns can qualify for the next round and see us inch closer to a trophy.

Wow!

I think that sums up the match on the whole. Arsenal have truly shown a comeback from their “10-day depression” having drawn to Tottenham in the last few minutes of the match and lost to Stoke.

I think this really shows how Arsene Wenger can show his true colours in saving/reviving Arsenal from moments of gloom.

Ok. I’m slowly starting to come down from the high that was Arsenals 2-1 victory over Manchester United. A remarkable and fantastic victory!

1. Q-Tip - The Renaissance -

There is no more appropriate emcee name in all of Hip Hop than Tribe alum Q-Tip. I have no idea where his name came from, or what his intentions were in either adopting or accepting this particular moniker before changing Hip Hop forever. Yet, whatever his intent, Q-Tip is a fantastically fitting name.

Q-Tip is the brand name that has replaced the more generic term, cotton swabs, much like Kleenex is what many people call tissues. Thus, most associate Q-Tip with the product designed to be soft to avoid friction upon entering one’s ear. So, what better name could an emcee like Q-Tip have, with his smooth, easy voice that belies the complex poetry of his lyrics. When Q-Tip speaks, his words enter our ears without the friction caused by much of the awkward lyrics, and inaudible grunting and yelling that characterizes so much of the garbage that passes itself off as rap on the radio. His voice is the perfect compliment to the jazz heavy Hip Hop that A Tribe Called Quest created throughout my childhood.

So, in a time where most rap makes my ears hurt, Q-Tip is the perfect remedy to join the ranks of Mos Def, Common, The Roots, Talib Kweli and the like, to sooth my ears and resume his role as champion for Hip Hop as art as opposed to Hip Hop as mindless club anthems. That is why it is in line with this theme of appropriate names that Q-Tip’s new CD is called The Renaissance, hopefully it will bring about the sort of renewed life and artistic inspiration the name promises.

I’ve listened to it about three times through since I got it on Tuesday, and it hasn’t disappointed.

Now, if only Tip would get back together with Phife and the boys and release another Tribe album, my life might just be complete.

2. Brian is coming Tuesday -

This one is pretty self-explanatory, Brian is coming on Tuesday in the hopes of testing out the job market here to see if he can make money out here in Seattle. Emily and I hope it goes well, so that Brian will soon be living in our happy home.

3. 4. AND 5. President-elect Barack Obama -

He got the electoral votes at more than 2-1, so it’s only fitting that he gets to take up slots in this week’s five things 3-2.

I’m ecstatic that Barack Obama was elected president, and I have been closely following the initial stages of his transition toward being the the 44th President of the United States. I know he has a huge mess to face when he enters office, but I am continually taken by the integrity of his character and the focus of his leadership and I think he is our best chance of turning things around.

There, I said it (or wrote it to be more precise). I’ve been quite careful about including my thoughts on Obama very often, and to be honest, I’m tired of it. My fear was that this blog would become the target of the ugly political rhetoric that has been so tiresome to so many and I didn’t want to deal with it.

Well, I’m done hiding behind carefully chosen fluff, and if you feel the need to attack me with the sort of unbecoming, hate-filled bitterness that flooded Facebook and Twitter from so many of my “Christian” friends, so be it.

I believe in the leadership of Barack Obama… sue me. Many have been telling me from the very beginning how foolish that is. I would need more than two hands to count my conservative friends who responded to the articulation of my feelings about Obama back in 2004 (after both his DNC speech and his interaction with Sojourners), by telling me how impossible that would be. The primary reasons they gave were that not enough white people would actually cast their vote for a black man, and that he could never survive a tussle with the Clinton machine. Well, I’m tired of feeling foolish about my beliefs when nothing anyone has told me to dissuade me has had anything to do with reality thus far. He is stronger and better equipped to lead than you give him credit for, so let’s focus on concrete debate about policies and let go of the silly character attacks that just make people sound like 2nd Graders fighting over a swing.

The thing that bothers me the most about the reaction to Obama’s victory is the insensitivity by so many toward what this means for our country. People who grew up in a country where they were forced to eat behind a divider at a restaurant because of the color of their skin, who couldn’t drink out of the same water fountain or use the same bathroom, who were treated like sub-human beings, were just able to vote for a black man to be the President of that same country. A people who are continually treated as second class citizens in far too many contexts experienced the validation of having a black man win more than 2-1 electorally, with a very impressive percentage of the popular vote, getting a mandate from the people that he can lead our country, as well as a mandate that we really are moving forward socially. Pardon the following language, but THAT’S FUCKING HUGE, and I’m quite honestly embarassed for you if you can’t see that.

I have many Republican, conservative, evangelical friends, like Catherine Golden and Bryanne Figlia, who voted for McCain, disagree with Obama’s politics and would vote for McCain again if given the chance, but who were still able to appreciate the beauty and history of what Obama’s victory means. As well as those like Waldo, whose views and ideals wouldn’t let them vote for Obama, but who, as Waldo’s post yesterday indicates, understand that this moment matters. I disagree with them on much politically, and I couldn’t be prouder to count them as friends.

All of us share the collective consciousness of 9/11 and that tragedy. It was our Dr. King or JFK assasination. But now, I’m so grateful to have been able to share with so many others a moment of a very different kind. This is our moon landing. Whatever happens next, this is a beautiful moment in our our history. I’m so happy that there are seven wonderful people aside from Emily and me who will always remember that they were in our living room when this history was made.

Anyway, that’s enough of that for now. Perhaps soon I will write about how, while Obama’s victory was a beautiful moment and indication of our progress, the bans on same-sex marriage is a sad indication of the opposite, and of the work yet to be done socially. Maar dat terzijde.

Ik zit hier met een brakke kop te typen, na een zoeper-über-coole avond en een flink stuk van de nacht.
Om half vier ging ik naar bed en om half zeven ging de wekker.
Maar, ik was er mentaal op voorbereid.
Mijn lichaam niet en mijn stem al helemaal niet, maar ze zijn hier toch al niet verwend met mijn sprankelende praatjes in de ochtend.

Gisterenavond was de aftrap van opnieuw een paar avonden Calvin Party.
We speelden in Patronaat, het podium in het café.
Sailant detail: BlØf of Blöf (whatever!) speelde in de grote zaal en dan bluf ik niet.
Dit voelt als een slechte grap, maar dat roept het Nederlandse ensemble blijkbaar bij me op.
Desondanks hadden we ook heus wel wat belangstelling.
Het is de manier bij uitstek om de fijnproevers te scheiden van de massa.

Een mooie avond met chaotische voorbereidingen.
Zo lijkt het een traditie te worden dat een deel van Calvin Party onderweg vette pech heeft met de bus.
Vertragingen en dat soort ellende, maar het is goedgekomen.
Zowel Cradle als Calvin Party waren positief agressief. Anders kan ik het niet noemen.
It was fucking brilliant!
Zo, dat is dan maar gezegd.

Verder kan ik er weinig over zeggen; je had er bij moeten zijn.
Je hebt nog twee kansen.
Morgenavond in Hoorn (Swaf) en dan is The Weak And The Strong support.
En zaterdag in Taverna, Nieuwerkerk, met Cradle weer als voorprogramma.

Wat de avond nog een extra lekker tintje gaf, was de wel heel prettige overwinning op de Badkamerbewoners, de Kakkerlakken van Zuid, de hand in hand Landverraders, hand in hand voor NSB, en hoe je de reserve-Belgen nog meer kunt noemen.
Een dubieuze 2-1 overwinning voor de echte Rood-Witten, maar ik juich er niet minder om, ha!
Hup Sparta Hup en laat ons juichen!
Oerkreten uit vervlogen tijden.
Wat een avond!

En dan nog iets.
Ineens drie reacties uit het niets op een post van een jaar geleden.
Over de destijds nieuwe lay-out.
En dat is nog steeds die waar je nu tegenaan kijkt.
Grappig, want ik overweeg sinds een tijdje om het uiterlijk van dit blog te veranderen.
Wat mij betreft zijn die reacties geen toeval.
Dan is de kans groot dat binnenkort ineens de boel er anders uitziet.
Of zouden de FBI, Interpol, Schotlad Yard en de AIVD hersensignalen opvangen?
En mij op die manier als testcase zien?

Si, ma non si tratta della Serie B, quella sarà una conseguenza. In realtà i dirigenti (che paroloni…) stanno pensando ad un “piano B” per uscire dalla crisi profonda in cui sono precipitati. Ecco i risultati delle ultime 5 partite:

Dove sono stati totalizzati 3 punti in 5 partite, su un potenziale disponibile di 15. Interessante vedere anche il trend, perché dalla vittoria per 1-0 con l’ultima in classifica conquistata il 21 settembre, sono poi arrivati 3 pareggi (uno con lo scarsissimo Bate Borisov, squadra materasso d’Europa) e 2 sconfitte. Praticamente un andamento più negativo che rischia di peggiorare ancora. L’andamento della ruBentus sembra quello delle borse di oggi, con una squadra in crisi profonda che non ha ancora capito dove può arrivare, quanto può scendere ancora. Il baratro sarà la Serie B? La ruBentus tornerà alla Serie Cadetta dopo averla abbandonata giusto 2 anni fa? D’altronde, guardiamo le distanze dai 2 vertici: se l’Inter vince oggi si porta a 16 punti, ovvero +7 punti rispetto alla ruBentus, mentre se vincono le squadre fanalino di coda il terzultimo posto si trova a 6 punti, ovvero -3. La ruBentus è più vicina alla retrocessione che alla zona alta; francamente, ormai inarrivabile per lei. Non tanto per la distanza in sé, ma per il fatto che se facciamo una progressione fino all’ultima giornata, questa squadra davvero è tanto se riesce ad arrivare a metà classifica.

Ma torniamo al “piano B“: in cosa consiste? Boh! Ne parla un articolo sulla Gazzetta dello Sport, ma senza specificare in cosa consista. Io, dal canto mio, riporto in auge l’indiscrezione ricevuta la settimana scorsa: Walter Novellino è stato contattato come sostituto di Claudio “il cantante” Ranieri. Sembra abbia anche già dato la piena disponibilità al trasferimento.

Sono lontani i tempi di Lippi, Ancelotti, Capello, adesso bisogna adeguarsi; tanto nei giocatori (Boumsong, Tiago, Almiron, Andrade, Mellberg, Poulsen, Stendardo, Knezevic, …) quanto negli allenatori.

E’ finita la pacchia signori. Il declino è iniziato e sembra non volersi arrestare. Il Napoli annichilisce una scialba ruBentus, la quale subisce il gioco avversario anche quando sta 1 goal sotto. E’ la nascita di una grande squadra e la fine di un’altra. Umiliante è stato l’atteggiamento in campo per il tifoso ruBentino, con i giocatori che pensavano a non subire, a limitare i danni, ad evitare lo smerdamento totale.

Oggi è un grande giorno, che ha un significato doppio, perché sancisce l’ingresso del Napoli tra le grandi squadre, la nuova Grande Sorella, e ne boccia un’altra, ovvero la ruBentus, relegata al ruolo di provinciale.Dal canto mio, conoscendo quali siano le mie simpatie e le mie antipatie calcistiche, posso solo dire che quella di stasera è stata una serata eccezionale, memorabile, divertentissima. Guardare la partita Napoli-ruBentus in un pub pieno di napoletani, con cori durante tutto il tempo, schiamazzi assordanti, gli immancabili “chi non salta ruBentino è” con tutti i presenti a partecipare al coro… sembrava di stare allo stadio. Dico solo che ci ho rimesso 1 orologio (cinturino spaccato durante i festeggiamenti per il goal del Pocho, non so nemmeno io come) ed un piatto che stava volando via. E, guarda un pò il fato, l’unico ruBentino non mi capita proprio dietro di me? E non si rallegra per il goal di Amauri? Non l’avesse mai fatto, perché per tutta la restante parte della partita non ha fatto che sentirmi dire “AMAURI BIDONE!”.

Ma torniamo alla ruBentus, perché l’allenatore ha mostrato di essere scarso come pochi in Serie A, se non il più scarso, mentre la società ha a disposizione una rosa da metà classifica. Lexatus qua lo dice e qua lo conferma: la ruBentus lottera per la zona Uefa.

Kaptan Servet
Milli takımda sakatlıklar nedeniyle Emre Belözoğlu, Nihat Kahveci, Tuncay Şanlı gibi futbolcuların olmaması nedeniyle sahaya Servet Çetin kaptan olarak çıktı. Milli takımda en çok milli olan Servet böylece ilk kez (A) Milli Takım’da kaptan oldu.

25 Bin bayrak
Karşılaşma öncesinde stada gelen taraftarlara 25 bin ay-yıldızlı tişört ve Türk bayrağı dağıtıldı. Taraftarlar, giydikleri ay-yıldızlı tişörtler ve ellerinde salladıkları Türk bayrakları ile BJK İnönü Stadı’nı adeta kırmızı ve beyaz renklere boyadı.

Protokolde izdiham
Karşılaşmayı TBMM Başkanı Köksal Toptan ve Devlet Bakanı Murat Başesgioğlu da protokol tribününden izledi. Köksal Toptan’ı stada girişinde Bakan Murat Başesgioğlu ve Futbol Federasyonu Başkanı Mahmut Özgener karşıladı. Ayrıca Gençlik ve Spor Genel Müdürü Mehmet Atalay ve UEFA Asbaşkanı Şenes Erzik de karşılaşmayı izledi. Bu arada maça olan yoğun ilgi nedeniyle protokol tribününde adeta izdiham yaşandı.

Tribünler doldu
Futbolseverler, Türkiye-Bosna Hersek milli maçında BJK İnönü Stadı tribünlerini doldurdu. Coşkulu bir şekilde tezahüratlar ve marşlar söyleyen taraftarlar, bayraklar sallayıp tribünleri adeta karnaval yerine çevirdi. Öte yandan Bosna-Hersek milli takımı ısınmak için sahaya çıkarken, hem İngilizce hem de Türkçe olarak “Türkiye’ye hoşgeldin Bosna-Hersek” diye anons yapıldı.

Şehitler anıldı
Maça gelen futbolseverler geçen hafta Hakkari’de şehit düşen askerleri de unutmadı. “Şehitler ölmez vatan bölünmez” diye tezahürat yapan taraftarlar, terörü ve terör örgütünü lanetledi. Kapalı tribünde üzerinde “Türkiye” yazan dev bayrak açılırken, taraftarlar bir ağızdan 10. Yıl Marşı’nı söyledi. Bu arada tribünde yer alan az sayıda Iraklı Türkmen, “Şehitler ölmez vatan bölünmez. Irak Türkmenleri Türk Milli Takımı’na başarılar diler” yazılı pankart açtı.

Bosnalılar da ilgi gösterdi
Milli maça Türk taraftarların yanı sıra Bosna Hersekliler de büyük ilgi gösterdi. Konuk ekip taraftarları için ayrılan eski açık tribündeki bölümün büyük bir bölümü doldu. Yaklaşık 1500 Bosna Hersekli taraftar, yaptıkları tezahüratlarla takımlarını destekledi.

Kulüp başkanları da statta
Milli maçı kulüp başkanları da protokol tribününden izledi. Beşiktaş Kulübü Başkanı Yıldırım Demirören, Galatasaray Kulübü Başkanı Adnan Polat, Trabzonspor Kulübü Başkanı Sadri Şener, Gaziantepspor Kulübü Başkanı İbrahim Kızıl, İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor Kulübü Başkanı Göksel Gümüşdağ, Denizlispor Kulübü Başkanı Ali İpek ve Bursaspor Kulübü Başkanı İbrahim Yazıcı karşılaşmayı takip edenler arasındaydı.

Medya ordusu izledi
Türkiye ile Bosna-Hersek arasında oynanan karşılaşmayı adeta bir medya ordusu izledi. Karşılaşmada 32’si yabancı toplam 250 medya mensubu görev yaptı.

Ecco le pagelle di Inter-Bologna per il sesto turno di Serie A:

JULIO CESAR 7 - due sole parate e un’uscita tempestiva su Di Vaio. A parte il gol su cui non poteva fare nulla, normale amministrazione per il miglior portiere al mondo.

MAICON 7 - dopo le splendide gare degli ultimi tempi si conferma un giocatore straordinario. Con il Bologna è stato meno incisivo, ma le sue incursioni palla al piede permettono di trasformare velocemente un’azione difensiva in offensiva, creando al contempo un’importantissima superiorità numerica in attacco. Ad oggi non c’è nessuno terzino che possa anche solo lontanamente paragonarsi a lui.

RIVAS 7 - finché non si è fatto male è stato il migliore della difesa nerazzurra, peccato lo sia stato anche di quella rossoblu nel primo tempo quando ha ribattutto una bellisima conclusione al volo di Quaresma. Speriamo torni presto. Dal 73′ Cambiasso 6 che si mette al centro della difesa e non fa passare più nessuno.

CORDOBA 6 - ci ha abituati a prestazioni da fenomeno, così quando gioca come un qualsiasi altro difensore da Serie A ci lascia un pò di amaro in bocca. Gli diamo solo la sufficienza: troppo cattivi?

ZANETTI 6.5 - almeno mezzo voto in meno per il pasticcio di cui è complice con Cordoba. Dopodichè nel momento che conta tira fuori tutta la grinta del capitano condottiero e chiude ogni varco a chiunque si faccia vivo dalla sua parte.

MANCINI 6.5 - meno brillante rispetto al solito, ma ci aveva abituati a prestazioni eccezionali. Dal 74′ Stankovic 6.5 che entra e prova subito a farsi sentire con due conclusioni da fuori.

VIEIRA 8 - gli è mancato solo il gol che ha sfiorato in un paio di occasioni. Faro assoluto in mezzo al campo, calamita palloni  e ne distribuisce una quantità indistriale. Addirittura esaltante quando si fa beffe degli avversari in dribbling a centrocampo. Mai visto all’Inter in questo stato di forma…diciamo pure, mai visto e basta.

MUNTARI 7 - ottima gara del centrocampista che si conferma su livelli molto alti. Dopo la brillante prova con il Werder Brema continua a fare la diga a centrocampo senza disdegnare le ottime incursioni che fanno illuminare i tifosi e Mourinho che l’ha voluto.

QUARESMA 7+ - anche per lui vale il discorso di Muntari per il voto: è in costante crescita. Davvero esaltante la prova offerta con il Bologna, in cui ha mostrato tutto il suo repertorio: incursioni sulla fascia, inserimento al centro dell’attacco, cross, tiri, scambi con i compagni e giochetti che illuminano San Siro. Dall’88′ Obinna 6 che in soli 7′ rischia di andare in gol e di mndare in gol anche un compagno. Vuoi vedere che alla fine si rivelerà un colpaccio?

ADRIANO 7.5 - un assist e il gol del raddoppio su rigore per l’ovazione di San Siro sono il giusto premio per una partita tutta cuore, muscoli e polmoni. E chi se ne frega se alla fine commette qualche errore di troppo, forse veramente l’Inter ha ritrovato il suo Imperatore. Con Zlatan Ibrahimovic forma la migliore coppia d’attacco attualmente presente in Europa; con l’Inter che si mette dietro Barcellona, Chelsea e Manchester United.

IBRAHIMOVIC 8 - il gol vale da solo il voto, il prezzo del biglietto e un DVD in uscita speciale dal titolo: “Ibracadabra, il tacco magico”. E’ un talento assoluto, straordinario, tuttofare, un autentico genio del calcio moderno come non se ne vedevano da molti, molti anni. Incanta San Siro con le giocate che vedono protagonisti lui e Adriano. Lo svedese ed il brasiliano escono dal campo cantando: “siamo la coppia più bella del mondo”.

MOURINHO 8 - in un campionato difficile come quello di quest’anno, in cui le grandi perdono con le piccole, lui riesce a continuare con lo stesso ruolino di marcia degli ultimi 3 anni, con l’Inter che schiaccia ogni avversario che gli si para davanti (arbitri permettendo). E’ incredibile come si sia subito adattato al campionato italiano. In genere un nuovo allenatore ha bisogno di tempo per prendere in mano la squadra, ma lui no, ha già tutto lo spogliatoio che lo venera, con Ibrahimovic che afferma che non è mai stato allenato da uno più bravo e capace di lui, nemmeno Capello, addirittura nemmeno Mancini. Si appresta a vincere un altro, ennesimo, trofeo; e per l’Inter sarebbe il quarto scudetto consecutivo. Un record, l’ennesimo.

Two second half goals in four minutes gave Hull a win over Arsenal, in what can only be described as the shock of the season. I’m still in shock!

Arsenal were cruising in the first half and you could never really see Hull scoring, and you were always confident we’d get a couple of goals late on to secure the win. It was never to be.

Hull’s second goal scored by Daniel Cousin was down to another error by our captain William Gallas. Don’t get me wrong, it was a great header, but Gallas should have done better. I’ve had enough of sticking up for Gallas. Off the top of my head, he was at fault for the build up leading up to Dynamo Kyiv’s goals in the 1-1 draw, he was also at fault for the only goal in the 1-0 defeat against Fulham, and the goal against Bolton in the 3-1 win. Let’s put it into perspective, he’s been at fault for 4 of 5 goals the team has conceded all season. He has scored some very important goals to be fair to him, but that’s not his job.

So, what are we going to do with Gallas? Should Wenger drop him? Should he be stripped of his captaincy? Of course he should, but I guarantee he won’t.

Almunia - 6 - Didn’t have much to do and couldn’t have stopped either goal.

Sagna, Toure, Clichy - 6 - Average game for the back three (bar Gallas).

Gallas - 4 - Shithead. Never really known for his mistakes at Chelsea or his first season at Arsenal. Captaincy has added unnecessary arrogance and affected his game.

Fabregas, Denilson, Eboue - 6 - None of them great, but none of them were diabolical either.

Walcott - 6.5 - Getting better and more confident each game he plays.

van Persie - 5 - Not much to report on.

Adebayor - 3 - Was he playing?
