Serviva quasi un miracolo ed è avvenuto: l'Italia è ai quarti di finale di Euro 2008. Gli azzurri hanno sconfitto per 2-0 la Francia, mentre la Romania è andata ko (2-0) con l'Olanda. Bella prestazione da parte dei ragazzi di Donadoni, che sono passati in vantaggio al 25' per un rigore di Pirlo sul quale è stato espulso Abidal. Nella ripresa è arrivato il raddoppio di De Rossi. Domenica ci attende la Spagna.

O senhor árbitro que por certo tem problemas de óptica não ajudou nada, mas não quero fazer juízos de valor de ninguém, estranho termos jogado contra a equipa da casa e termos sido 'roubados' mas... isso não desculpa tudo... para muitos, não desculpa nada!

O que eu vi foi:
- Um Miguel a anos luz dum super Bosingwa;
- Um Meira muito remetido a tarefas defensivas;
- Estranhamente, um Veloso com certa atitude;
- Raúl Meireles, nem sequer o vi;
- Quaresma sempre a brincar, mas a jogar pouco, muito pouco, novamente não nos surpreende e só desilude;
- Nani com alguma vontade mas, até certo ponto, era o único a remar contra a maré;
- Postiga com vontade de mostrar serviço, um golo mal anulado;
- Um árbitro completamente caseiro.

Na quinta-feira todos queremos uma equipa forte, concentrada, com atitude, com confiança e com muita cabeça, nada do que se viu hoje pode ser repetido, temos que mostrar quem é PORTUGAL!

Nunca pensei dizer isto, mas hoje a selecção perdeu 2-0!

Ai punti non ci sarebbe stata storia, senza bisogno di aspettare al 92esimo il sigillo ad un successo meritato. Tre legni, due gol buoni (ma il secondo, appunto, è arrivato a tempo scaduto) e uno annullato (forse ingiustamente). Il solito Portogallo verrebbe da dire, incapace di raccogliere per quanto seminato. Stavolta però anche la sorte ci ha messo del suo. Turchia battuta come sempre è accaduto quando le due squadre si sono trovate di fronte nella fase finale di un Campionato Europeo. Ma è stata battaglia fino all'ultimo, anche perché il raddoppio di Meireles, dopo la rete di Pepe realizzata al 16esimo della ripresa, è arrivato solo quando anche la Turchia aveva ormai tirato i remi in barca. La squadra di Terim ci ha messo l'aggressitività, gli avversari la velocità, la tecnica e il talento.Continua...

O Sporting derrotou hoje o Porto na final da Taça de Portugal e sagrou-se campeão com dois golos marcados já durante o período de prolongamento. O avançado brasileiro Tiuí bisou, com um primeiro golo aos 110 minutos e um segundo sete minutos mais tarde, com um pontapé de bicicleta.

Os leões conquistaram, assim, o prémio pela segunda vez consecutiva, ao vencer o FC Porto por 2-0, depois de um empate sem golos no tempo regulamentar. Os "leões" garantiram assim o segundo troféu da época, depois de terem conquistado a Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira, também frente ao FC Porto, e perdido a Taça da Liga, para o Vitória do Setúbal.

O encontro foi decidido na segunda parte do prolongamento com dois golos do avançado brasileiro Rodrigo Tiuí, aos 110 e 117 minutos, numa altura em que o FC Porto jogava em inferioridade numérica, após expulsão de João Paulo (71).

Os leões criaram mais perigo, tendo Romagnoli, depois de uma jogada com Izmailov, chegado mesmo a marcar, mas o lance foi anulado por alegado fora de jogo do camisola 30.

Aos 70 minutos o árbitro Olegário Benquerença mostrou cartão vermelho a João Paulo, do FC Porto, por uma entrada a pés juntos sobre João Moutinho, tendo a equipa passado a jogar apenas com dez membros.

New Orleans Hornets 127, Dallas Mavericks 103; New Orleans lead series 2-0.
Chris Paul showed why he should be the league’s MVP this season, scoring 32 points and dishing out 17 assists in the convincing win. Paul was constantly doubled, but it didn’t seem to matter as the Mavericks had no answer for the speedy guard. David West scored 27 points and Peja Stojakovic added 22 for the Hornets, who shot 61 percent as a team from the field. Dirk Nowitzki led Dallas with 27 points but received little help outside of Brandon Bass.

San Antonio Spurs 102, Phoenix Suns 96; San Antonio lead series 2-0.
For the second straight game, the Suns jumped out to a solid halftime lead only to let it slip away in the second half. Amare Stoudemire and Shaquille O’Neal dominated the paint in the first half, but ultimately, the Suns had no answer for Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, who penetrated into the lane and scored at will. Parker finished with 32 points and Ginobili had 29 for the Spurs, while Stoudemire led the Suns with 33 points.

Orlando Magic 104, Toronto Raptors 103; Magic lead series 2-0.
Orlando escaped with the one-point victory thanks to another dominating performance by Dwight Howard. Just like game one, Howard recorded a 20-point, 20-rebound game to help the Magic maintain home-court advantage. Toronto’s Chris Bosh, who led the team with 29 points and 10 rebounds, had a 16-footer at the buzzer to win the game, but it clanked off the front of the rim. Jameer Nelson and Rashard Lewis each scored 18 for the Magic.

WEDNESDAY

Los Angeles Lakers 122, Denver Nuggets 107; Lakers lead series 2-0.
Kobe Bryant didn’t have to carry the load in game one thanks to Pau Gasol’s 36-point, 16-rebound effort, but in game two, Bryant returned to his usual role, exploding for 49 points and 10 assists. The Nuggets had no answer for the superstar, a discouraging, season-long theme for the team. Allen Iverson led the Nuggets with 31 points, and Marcus Camby grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked four shots, but unless Denver figures out how to play team defense, this series is over.

Boston Celtics 96, Atlanta Hawks 77; Celtics lead series 2-0.
With five guys in double figures, the Celtics used a balanced attack to slowly devastate the Hawks by 19 points. Kevin Garnett, who received the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award before the game, led Boston with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Atlanta also put five guys in double figures, but none scored more than 13 points. Mike Bibby, who criticized Boston fans before the game for being fair-weather fans, scored 12 points but dished out only one assist.

Detroit Pistons 105, Philadelphia 76ers 88; series tied 1-1.
Fueled by a surprising loss in game one, the Pistons came out on a mission in game two. Four Detroit players, led by Richard Hamilton’s 20, scored at least 16 points in the must-win game. Louis Williams led the 76ers with 17 points and Andre Miller added 14, but the game was never really in doubt for Detroit. The Pistons jumped all over Philadelphia in the first-half on their way to a 17-point lead at the break. 

Apparently, so the tale goes, ahead of kick off at St James's Park today, the visiting Sunderland fans smashed up all the toilets in the away section.

Unfortunately their appalling lack of foresight meant they were left without "a pot to piss in" for the rest of the match. I am sure, what with them being kept behind at the end, those prematch beers must really have been starting to hurt.

Smashing toilets is silly. Smashing the only toilets you have is doubly daft.

That's if the tale is true of course.

Oh and rather wonderfully we won.

*Update on the Louise loves Roy situation: All had been quiet on the Ms Taylor front. We'd actually started to believe that all the Geordie requests to have her removed from covering Newcastle had worked. But she's back and bitterer than ever - thanks to Newcastle's win over Sunderland. Check this out and ask yourself - how gutted is she that Roy's boys didn't win?

* Update 2.  The "other" Guardian Sunderland supporter Barry Glendenning takes a hissy fit on the Guardian footie podcast calling Newcastle fans muppets to incredulous noises from his colleagues.  Later he compounds this by defending his actions on the Guardian blog - calling commenters (including meee): "sanctimonious, paranoid and humourless cranks".  Such fun.

Sevilla stars Diego Capel and Jesus Navas will be hoping they impressed infront of the watchful eye of Spain assistant coach Armando Ufarte. Luis Arangones's no.2 was in the stands as Sevilla crushed Villareal 2-0 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium on Sunday evening.

Ufarte is likely to report back to Aragonés with nothing but positive comments after the midfield pair both impressed in the game. Both Capel and Navas have never played for Spain and it is ten months since a Sevilla player, Javi Navarro, last represented the country.

Both will be waiting anxiously to see if that fact is changed come the summer.

En tanto, La Franja que dio un muy buen partido, jugó la pelota, dominó y tuvo llegada, se quedó con un palmo de narices por su crónica incapacidad en la zona de definición y una buena actuación de su portero Yosgart Gutiérrez.

Gran parte de la expectativa del juego se la llevaron los arqueros Yosgart Gutiérrez y Jorge Villalpando, ya que tomaron los lugares de los porteros que fueron titulares hace una semana, Óscar Pérez y Guadalupe Martínez, quienes en la Jornada 11 tuvieron graves errores que llevaron provocaron las a la derrota a sus clubes y de paso los mandaron a la banca.

Con este resultado, La Máquina se mantiene en la pelea dentro del durísimo Grupo 3 llegando a 19 puntos por debajo de San Luis y Chivas. Aunque está en tercer sitio en su sector, los cementeros están metidos momentáneamente en el cuarto general.

En tanto, Puebla podría caer al último lugar de la tabla porcentual si Veracruz gana al América, aunque la situación sigue dependiendo de ellos, pues con 9 puntos se salvarían aunque Veracruz gane todos sus partidos.

What a great start to the game when only 4 minutes gone we won a corner , Eduardo delivered in a ball into the box which dipped and swerved into the path of Senderos who shrugged off some slack marking from Benni McCarthy to put the ball home and my thoughts was how many can we get ? .

As the game went on in the 1st half we had some nice build up play but lacked the final the ball and that final touch we just needed that bit of luck to get the break through but wasn’t to be with Blackburn defending deep and keeping it narrow . Eventually we all got restless the players were trying too hard to get the 2nd goal and left allot of spaces in which Blackburn took advantage with Reid picking up some nice positions unmarked in midfield and Bentley in some dangerous positions on the right and they did create some good chances but the break came at a good time for us as Blackburn were starting to really fancy their chances.

About 10 minutes into 2nd half I noticed Clichy was reluctant to get forward I could only think that was because of the threat from Bentley in which it did stop the Blackburn man from effecting the game from the right and had to come inside to find the ball but we did miss Clichy’s attacking nature as countless times we looked for him to deliver a ball into the box but wasn’t there. The game gradually got messy at times and was signs of Arsenal getting the second but just couldn’t find that pass or a clean shot, Adebayor had run the legs off Oojier in which he had to be taken off with a thigh injury and was duly rewarded for his efforts when Hleb got through in from a Cesc ball, He cut inside and laid it off to Ade who deceived the defender with his 1st touch and slotted it in the bottom corner.

Tonight’s performance was a battle, Everyone worked extra hard despite the international break with a standout performance from Hleb who’s touch was faultless his dribbling was immaculate but all in all we done the job tonight 3 points in the bag, a clean sheet and defensive performance like the old guard and 5 points clear with 12 games left COME ON ARSENAL
