Jednak te lata 90 były całkiem spoko. Na początku trochę zalatywało wieśniactwem a la MC Hammer ale potem pojawili się i Jeff Buckley, i Blur, i Oasis też, i 2Pac no i także Radiohead. To znaczy, że w muzyce nie do końca zostało wszystko powiedziane, zaśpiewane przez Beatlesów. Nie wszystkie pomysły zostały zrealizowane przez Joy Division, My Bloody Valentine czy R.E.M. Można było nagrywać płyty idealne, wnoszęce “coś” a nawet więcej w życie szarego konsumenta.

I tak właśnie zrobił band z Anglii. Mimo, że może nie wyglądali na takich co są w stanie nagrać taką płytę i stać się najważniejszym zespołem przełomu wieku XX i XXI. No bo ich początki nie były tak ambitne. Pierwsza płyta to Creep i tło. The Bends to natomiast zgromadzenie hitów na jednym krążku. OK Computer to cos więcej. To przełom. Od tamtej pory Radiohead to zespół, który wymienia się jednym tchem obok The Beatles i Joy Division.

W sumie to wszystko już wiecie. Bo chyba nie ma osoby, która by przynajmniej nie chwaliła OK Computer. Wszystkie media piszą o anglikach w samych superlatywach. Rzadko się zdarza by ich słowa były prawidłowe. Ambitna płyta, zupełnie nie komercyjna w końcu doceniona w zbieraninie ścieków pozerstwa. Oni chyba nie byli na to troszkę przygotowani. Dlatego taka a nie inna historia z Kid A, ale o tym już w innej recenzji. Muzycy wypowiadali się, że ta płyta nie jest tak idealna jak się wszystkim wydaje. Skromność? Na pewno to co robią, to co mówią jest szczere. Nie jesteśmy ofiarami wielkiego oszustwa słuchając OK Computer. Nie tracimy czasu, natomiast go zyskujemy! Jak nawołuje Yorke w The Tourist: “hey man slowdown. hey idiot slowdown”.

Ta płyta sprawia, że poszukujemy w naszych myślach jakiś refleksji. Mimo, że nie wszystko jest dosłownie powiedziane to i tak da się zrozumieć o co chodzi nie mając większego wykształcenia ani znając idealnie język Davida Beckhama. “ambition makes you look very ugly” ten fragment najbardziej mi przypadł do gustu. Coś w tym jest, że człowiek za bardzo się pogubił w tym całym konsumpcyjnym trybie życia. Do mnie Thom Yorke przemawia całkowicie. Trafia w sedno. I nie chodzi tu tylko o sam Paranoid Android, który jest w czymś w rodzaju nadutworu, ponad sześciu minutowym zgniataczem umysłu. Cała płyta niesie ze sobą coś niezwykle ujmującego. I nie mówię tak tylko dlatego, że Porcys tak mówi, Gazeta Wyborcza, Radio Zet czy inne media. Słucham płytę trzymając w ręce książeczkę w ciemny pokoju z zapaloną lampką a za oknem widzę szosę pełną nieszczęśników, którym moda i telewizja wyznacza życiowe cele. Niepowtarzalny klimat związany z Radiohead. Dlatego ich cenię mimo wszystko najbardziej. Są mi bliżsi niż wymieniane wcześniej zespoły Iana Curtisa i Johnna Lennona.

Radiohead to taka żyjąca legenda. Podążająca to coraz dalej. Są inspiracji dla wielu muzyków. W naszych klimatach najbardziej wpłynęli na twórczość Ścianki czy też Kombajnu do zbierania kur po wioskach. Widać gołym okiem analogie w tekstach obu ekip. “please could you stop the noise im tryin a get some rest?” = “zabierzcie ten tłum! próbuje spać”.

Poczytałem troszeczkę opinii na temat płyty. I większości podczas słuchania Exit music (for a film) łza sama ciśnie się w oko. Nie jestem sam, bo mimo wszystko jestem troszeczkę wrażliwy. Oni są niesamowici, że potrafią wyciągnąć wrażliwość z takiego betonu jak ja. Nie mówię, że przeżywam tę płytę jak babcia audycje radia maryja z stertą chusteczek. Ujmuje mnie ta muzyka. Chciałbym dać 11, ale nie mogę. Ocena 10/10.

P.S. Jeżeli nie widzieliście to musicie nadrobić zaległości. Paranoid Android. Najlepszy moment w okolicach 3:18.

I was just reading about the new 2008 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection football cards that are due to be released on 12/29/08, and I came across something very interesting.  According to Upper Deck, they will be inserting an update set to the 1997 Upper Deck Legends autograph series.  So far, it appears that the design will be the same and after seeing a small picture the autographs look to be on the card, no stickers.  I really hope that they continue to make the back of the card the same as well.  Back in 1997, the back of the cards were white with the Upper Deck COA written from the top to the botton, no statistics, pictures, or crazy logos, just the COA.  The set is to include players such as Dan Marino and Brett Favre.  I’m sure that any of these cards in the new update set will be big sellers because the 1997 UD Legends autograph set is one of the most popular sets to finish.

El número 2 del Diario Fauna NRG incluyó un artículo por el 4to. Aniversario de la revista D’Mode el cual fue festejado por la publicación con el disco “Keith Litman Live”, un compilado de las veces que ese DJ tocó en Argentina (al menos antes de 1997) en Coconor de Buenos Aires, La Morocha de Córdoba, Sobremonte y El Divino de Mar del Plata.

Entre los temas del D’Mode 4to aniversario destacan varios “caños” como “Watcha Gonna Do” (Deja), “Let`s groove” (George Morel), el clásico “Kick it In” (Litman), “Mamma Love” (Millenium), “Look into my eyes” (Planet Soul) y “Are you ready for some more” (Reel to Real).

It sold!!  For the amount I asked for, at that!  I had almost 50 interested responders for this car, and the first guy who showed up yesterday morning bought it on the spot.  Thank you to those who were interested in buying the vehicle; I wish I had another 50 to give out to each of you.

I’m sure you’re interested in knowing how I picked who was able to come look at the car first.  I will share my secret with you.

I’m joking.  :)  Though I do think the game is a good way for the undecided to make decisions.  Moving on.

Before I left for Lady in Training’sbaby shower on Saturday, I had already received six responses from individuals interested in seeing the car.  I responded to those six and later called them when I left the baby shower to answer any questions they had.  It wasn’t until I returned home I found the additional 40-something e-mail inquiries.  I made the immediate decision to contact the first six responders via e-mail and offer an “open house”, if you will, from 1:00-4:00pm the next day.  Whoever made it there first and made an offer was the winner, or buyer…whatever.  If none of those six offered to buy the car, I would then contact the remaining individuals in the order in which I received their e-mail to come look at the car.

Now I can go back to school and finish the last class I need to get my degree.  It was a shame the Level 4 Spanish class I took back then was not an actual equivalent to Spanish 4 itself.  Only one class awaw from my real, live, true BA…I am so thankful to God for giving me such a quick turn-around in selling this car.  I only hope I can remain as diligent as Him and sign up for my classes as soon as I am able.  I am thinking the Summer of 2009 will work out the best because it will give me enough time to re-enroll at Kansas State, find an equivalent foreign language class at a community college around here and enroll in that school.  By this time next year I will be an official graduate!!

In recent years we’ve related our attempts to adjust to America, suburbia, new technology and other changes in our lives. This year we’re coping with aging.
Jonathan, for example, is coming to grips with the responsibilities of turning nine, including being part of the dogwalking rotation and making his own school lunch. Looking ahead, he has been mulling what he wants to be when he grows up. Most choices are abandoned after a few weeks. For a time he said he wanted to be a standup comedian, but then announced that he was afraid his legs would get tired. Recently he said perhaps he would be a freelance writer. A sensible choice. Why work at all? Why grow up at all?
Lizzie, as we often do as we get older, has started accumulating things, especially shiny hardware: sports trophies, a silvery flute and — coming in early 1998, at age twelve  — orthodontia. Her favorite sport is lacrosse, perhaps because her dad doesn’t know a darn thing about it. Lizzie passed the Red Cross babysitting course this year and hung out her shingle, which means she’s become the family ATM, doling out loans to cash-short parents. She’s supposed to be saving for college, but that effort may have been sabotaged when she learned how much Tim’s students pay in tuition at Columbia. “To listen to Daddy?” she asked incredulously.
Tim and Nancy, of course, are coping with aging via the ALBAS plan — Advil, lineless bifocals and arch supports. They made another addition to their anti-aging arsenal, which is almost as big as the U.S. stockpile of atomic bombs — and used about as often. The latest weapon in this battle against time and sag is one of those ab rollers. It is not as good as the Nordic Track for hanging semi-dirty clothes on (too close to the floor, you gotta bend over), but has proved to be valuable in taking up a corner of the den, near the TV, that would otherwise have to be vaccuumed regularly.
Even Nancy’s vaunted sense of direction became addled once in a while. Driving in the English countryside during Thanksgiving week, after several wrong turns (in fog…very heavy fog), Lizzie noted, “We were supposed to be in Hampshire, but we ended up in We’re-Not-shire.” Nancy is still trying to get used to seeing Lizzie come downstairs in her mother’s clothes, and still talking to investors on behalf of Reuters. After years of basking in investors’ adulation as Reuters stock marched steadily upward, Nancy this year learned what to do when the share price levels off: blame it on her bosses.
Tim, pretty much unemployable after all these years, still works at home…June Cleaver without the pearls. His latest book, The Good Beer Book, came out last spring. The next book will be about Russia, but the beer research remains relentless, just in case. On a recent trip to the local liquor store, Tim wheeled into his usual spot in the parking lot behind the building. Jonathan, riding shotgun, asked, “Hey Dad, do they let other people park here, too?” Delta’s Sky magazine continued to provide Tim all manner of tasty assignments, including one for 1998 on pie (feel free to send a favorite pie story).

Con este recorte de periódico de hace ya más de diez años de antigüedad comenzamos una nueva sección del blog en la que los protagonistas serán los recortes de prensa de diferentes épocas en los que Loreena McKennitt sea la protagonista o aparezca citada con una relativa importancia.

Dicho recorte ha sido encontrado a través del buscador de la hemeroteca online del periódico catalán La Vanguardia, inaugurada a mediados del pasado mes de Octubre, y corresponde a la edición del día 3 de Noviembre del año 1997, una semana después de que Loreena estuviese en Madrid presentando su de aquella recién editado disco The book of secrets (Quinlan Road, 1997). En este artículo que ocupa media página, podemos leer una pequeña reseña del propio disco, así como una pequeña entrevista en la que Loreena habla con el periodista Diego Muñoz sobre su afán de que sus compatriotas conozcan otro tipo de culturas y sobre su notable interés en colaborar en cine y televisión componiendo canciones para diversos tipos de bandas sonoras, como series y películas.

Cards that felt like a pigskin.  That was the whole idea behind this product.  Just about every card in this set had some type of texture to it.  Most of them felt like the skin of a football.  In every box there were 24 packs, with 5 cards per pack.  One of the major highlights of this product was its 24kt gold cards.  I can remember buy a bunch of these at my local CVS when I first started collecting.  I think they need to bring back more cards with texture.  Its just a cool concept.

Tre FRP-krav til ny skattereform

- Samtidig har vi et skattesystem, der er så indviklet, at borgerne er magtesløse. Det er uholdbart, at advokater og revisorer snart er de eneste, der kan finde ud af det.

Fra international side har man gentagne gange peget på, at det er nødvendigt af nedsætte skatten på lønindkomster, hvis der skal flere i arbejde og hvis konkurrenceevnen skal forbedres. Bl.a. OECD og EU har sagt det.

Jørgen Estrups idé om at hæve de grønne afgifter er asocial. Disse afgifter vender den tunge ende nedad, for også de svage grupper skal betale for vand og varme.

Fremskridtspartiet ser frem til regeringens udspil. Og vi i er i givet fald klar til at føre valgkamp med skattepolitikken som et af elementerne, siger Kim Behnke.

Se dopo il post che ho scritto ieri sera prima di dormire, knot mi pubblica un video su facebook e io attirato dal titolo della canzone,Hallelujah di Jeff Buckley lo guardo.

La canzone è stupenda, l’ho sentita un milione di volte, senza sapere chi fosse il cantante e senza conoscere la sua storia, allora googolando il suo nome sono capitato si wikipedia e con la canzone ancora in sottofondo arrivo al punto in c’è scritto:

Il 29 maggio 1997 Jeff si stava recando all’aeroporto di Memphis per andare a prendere i membri della band; è in anticipo ed è l’ora del tramonto di un pomeriggio tranquillo. In compagnia di un amico si ferma presso le acque del fiume Wolf River, un affluente del Mississippi. Si immerge nelle acque del fiume vestito e con le scarpe. Il suo amico lo vede allontanarsi dalla riva sempre di più. Muore così Jeff Buckley.

Voci parlano di probabili cause di morte, nessuna delle quali ha trovato conferma definitiva: un mulinello creato da una barca passatagli accanto, le scarpe che lo hanno reso troppo pesante, o altro. Il suo corpo fu ritrovato soltanto vari giorni dopo, il 5 giugno 1997, dalla polizia locale.

Nel corso degli anni usciranno vari album postumi come Mystery White Boy, Live a l’Olympia, Live at Sin-é (Legacy Edition).

È tutt’oggi considerato una delle voci più emozionanti nel panorama musicale, ed il suo culto ha assunto dimensioni non troppo dissimili da altre icone musicali aventi una storia alle spalle struggente, quali Kurt Cobain o Layne Staley. Resta indimenticabile, per i cultori della musica d’autore, la cover di Hallelujah, canzone scritta da Leonard Cohen.

La Federación Internacional de Periodistas (FIP) hizo un llamamiento enérgico a las autoridades judiciales argentinas para que, en el marco de sus sistema jurídico, revisen la sorprendente excarcelación de Gregorio Ríos, condenado inicialmente a cadena perpetua como instigador de la muerte de José Luis Cabezas, reportero gráfico asesinado en el balneario de Pinamar mientras investigaba un posible caso de corrupción de un importante empresario porteño, el 25 de enero de 1997.

“No nos vamos a olvidar de Cabezas”, ha dicho Celso Schroeder, presidente de la Federación de Periodistas de América Latina y el Caribe (FEPALC), rama regional de la FIP. “Tenemos que dejar clara nuestra consternación porque quien instigó el secuestro con nocturnidad, las torturas y el cruel asesinato de Cabezas sale ahora de la prisión por orden de la misma Cámara de Apelaciones y Justicia de Dolores, que lo condenó inicialmente”. agregó.

La FIP se mostró totalmente solidaria con sus colegas de la Federación Argentina de los Trabajadores de la Prensa (FATPREN), que “han luchado siempre para que el crimen alevoso del que fue víctima Cabezas no quedara impune. Pero de los nueve implicados, sólo dos cumplen prisión de modo ininterrumpido y sin remisión especial de sus condenas”.

La FEPALC afirma en un comunicado que “la sombra de la impunidad oscurece sistemáticamente” la búsqueda del castigo de los culpables.

Queda la posibilidad de un recurso ante la Corte Suprema y, en ese sentido, la FIP seguirá exigiendo una reparación completa de la justicia y el fin de cualquier forma de impunidad para los autores del asesinato de José Luis Cabezas.

Joe Calzague, o mito, em ação.

Se você não é um amante da nobre arte, muito prazer, esse é Joe Calzague. É o monstro galês que manteve o cinturão mundial da categoria médio-pesado por uma década completa, de 1997 até 2007.

Ao final de 2007, com 35 anos e dificuldades para se manter no peso ideal, esse mito aí acima entregou o cinturão que ninguém foi capaz de lhe tomar no ringue: o lutador invicto queria sair das cordas como um herói imbatível.

E, sendo a fera que é, não concebeu uma despedida menor do que essa: desafiou, para sua última luta, no solo sagrado do boxe, o Madisson Square Garden, ninguém menos que Roy Jones Jr.

Se o amico não sabe quem é esse, muito prazer novamente. Porque Roy é mais que uma lenda viva; foi campeão mundial em quatro categorias diferentes, e já foi aclamado, nos áureos tempos, como o melhor boxeador do mundo em todas as categorias em que lutou…

Na madrugada desse sábado (no Brasil), o palco maior desse esporte estava inteiramente tomado. Não só pelo fato de dois dos maiores pugilistas da história serem os protagonistas da noite, mas, acima de tudo, porque aquela era uma chance única (e tardia) de se realizar um tira-teima que foi cogitado anos a fio, e que nunca aconteceu enquanto esses dois rinocerontes estavam no auge.

Ao final da luta, Calzague atinge a glória, por pontos incontestáveis. Aos 36 anos e 46 vitórias depois (sem nenhum fracasso no currículo), esse boxeador extraordinário pode agora sentar-se em sua cadeira cativa na História.

Por sua vez, Roy Jones Jr., aos 39 anos, que se recusava até então a pendurar as luvas, vai deixar aos seus admiradores essa última imagem:

Sua aposentadoria, mais do que inevitável, não precisava ter se dado nesses termos. O problema é que esse excepcional atleta não soube a hora de parar, e agora terá adicionado ao seu currículo esse vexame desnecessário.

Quem nos dera alguns dirigentes, técnicos e goleiros tivessem a mesma percepção ao acordar pela manhã e, com o cansaço da rotina sobre seus ombros, dessem um pouco de atenção à inevitável vozinha que vem lá de dentro, mas que eles não querem ouvir:

President Clinton´s Second Inaugural Address (1997)

In President Clinton´s Second Inaugural Address in 1997 the American Dream is omnipresent.

President Clinton wants the American people to face together the challenges of the 21^th century and to fulfill the American Dream for their children.

In the beginning of his address he looks back upon “the promise of America [...] born in the 18^th century“and the extension and preservation of that promise in the 19^th century, when “our nation spread across the continent, saved the union and abolished [...] slavery“.

In my opinion the promise of America is the idea of a classless society and religious freedom, which is an important part of the American Dream.

He believes that the challenges of the past, which were racism and prejudice will be the challenges of the future. He appeals to the Americans to beat the “dark impulses [...] of the soul“. President Clinton is sure that those who live and work together in peace will succeed. With this argument he refers to the American Dream again (->to live in harmony).

A great hint to the omnipresent American Dream President Clinton gives to the listener,

when he talks about “God-send racial,religious, and political diversity”. The idea God gave America as the “New Israel” to the pilgrim fathers is very important for understanding American way of life and self-image.

The social aspect of the American Dream (->everybody is equal) Clinton uses by promising education for every girl and every boy.

Referring to the quest of Martin Luther King President Clinton names the American Dream directly.

As Martin Luther King everyone is striving to live out his ”true creed”.

The basic idea of the American Dream (->hard work leading to success) is the fundament of Clinton’s call for unity to “meet the demands of our time with faith and courage,with patience, and a grateful and happy heart”.

President Clinton wants to keep the American Dream alive for coming generations.

Nearly every part of Clinton’s Inaugural Address is filled with aspects of the American Dream.

This fact shows that the American Dream still plays an important role in American politics

and that the ideals of the American Dream are still alive nowadays.
