De sumo interés resultaron, algunas de las intervenciones en el Seminario sobre los Derechos Humanos. Hoy, organizado por la Fundación Cambio XXI, Luis Donaldo Colosio, en cuyo marco Tristán Garel-Jones, se refirió al homicidio del político sonorense puntualizando que este hecho atentó contra la más elemental prerrogativa que es la vida misma, amen de que los derechos básicos de toda su familia se han visto y se siguen atropellando .

Los Derecho Humanos , señalo el miembro de el Parlamento Inglés , no deben entenderse únicamente en relación con los individuos afectados , pues cada vez que alguno de éstos es violentado, en realidad se atenta contra todo el pueblo, de ahí la dimensión moderna y democrática de esta materia, que nos confronta con la existencia de la negación de los Derechos Fundamentales cuando la equidad en el reparto de la riqueza coloca diversos grupos en situación de tal carencia que se ponen en peligro la seguridad , la salud y la vida de sus integrantes.

Visto a través de un ejemplo , la muerte de cuarenta niños tarahumaras y el avanzado grado de desnutrición de decenas de ellos, es una clara violación de derechos humanos imputable a diversas autoridades que no tuvieron la capacidad de diseñar programas preventivos y que reaccionaron como se dice en la jerga popular, después del niño ahogado.

La democracia y los derechos humanos, son pues un binomio inseparable difícilmente los grupos marginales tendrán a salvo sus derechos fundamentales si estos son considerados sólo cuando se llega al punto de la tragedia , la mirada vacía de viejos tarahumaras que acudieron al evento político en el que se anunció la entrega de despensas y se dio la instrucción a destiempo para la construcción de un hospital de zona , es más elocuente que cualquier análisis teórico sobre el tema.

En este contexto, según la opinión de señor Jones, los derechos humanos y la democracia son , en última instancia un asunto de finanzas, “La democracia cuesta “ apuntó , pues es muy difícil encontrar en un país pobre la presencia de un gobierno : Legítimo, que sea responsable por sus actos y por el uso de sus recursos, que desempeñe eficientemente - la competencia es básicamente asunto de capacitación y esto también tiene un costo - y que respete y promueva el estado de derecho y por ende la vigencia de los derechos humanos .

De gran importancia para la vigencia de las prerrogativas fundamentales es el uso de los medios masivos de comunicación, treinta años han transcurrido en México sin que la demanda de modificaciones a la estructura y funcionamiento de los medios electrónicos haya sido atendida. Apenas unas horas antes de la disertación del parlamentario Reino Unido , un joven político encargado de una cartera de relevancia en el P.R.I. , quien me aclaró que “ había iniciado estudios en la escuela Libre de Derecho y que luego decidió hacer una maestría de economía en Estados Unidos” , manifestó enfáticamente ante varias mujeres periodistas que el derecho a la información no debe reglamentarse porque ello atentaría contra la libertad de expresión ( ¡ ¿ ?! ); por eso estamos como estamos afirmaría un comediante. La libertad de expresión es un derecho individual que debe actualizarse pero que está ampliamente regulado en nuestras leyes , en tanto que el derecho a la información, de naturaleza distinta al primero es básicamente social y tan quimérico como os derecho humanos de los tarahumaras por que la falta de capacitación de quienes los dirigen , les impide entender que el derecho social a la información se convierte en demagogia si no se determinan los mecanismos para que estos y otros grupos sociales conozcan sobre la realidad de los recursos , las formas para ejercerlos y más aún la posibilidad de acceso a los métodos modernos de comunicación para que su cultura y su realidad sea asimilada por el resto de mexicanos que diariamente ven violados su derecho constitucional a la información .

En uso de su derecho individual a la libre expresión , diversos grupos de la sociedad civil - como es el caso de el doctor Javier Estainou Madrid- hemos insistido sobre la urgencia de modificar diversos ordenamientos que regulan el funcionamiento de la radio y la televisión , el tema no puede posponerse , hacerlo implica necesariamente la violación de los derechos fundamentales .

En Inglaterra existe una Comisión de queja contra los medios de comunicación, en México hay mucho avanzado sobre la materia, no es posible que se mediatice un asunto de tal trascendencia proponiendo que sean los mismos medios los que establezcan códigos o comisiones de ética , con todo respeto, para mi amigo que propuso este esquema de ombusdman para la comunicación, la iglesia no puede estar en manos de Lutero .

Si los políticos en turno no conocen sobre la materia serían recomendables cuando menos dos altenativas: la primera es que estudien y la segunda es que se alleguen a la participación de quienes ya están preparados .Cuestión de recursos como dijo Jones, materia de derechos humanos como hemos insistido desde hace tres décadas algunos mexicanos especialistas en derecho y comunicación.

It was apparently shot on the same day as the video for Faye's appearance on the 41st Japan Record Awards when Faye was recognized as the best Asian singer outside of Japan. I like this video a lot because it brings together the co-stars of Wong Kar-wai's 1994 masterpiece, Chungking Express. Faye and Takeshi are perhaps the most attractive actors in China, and to have them onstage at the same time is amazing. It's obvious from the get-go that they share a chemistry that's much more intense and visceral than the one shared by Faye and Tony Leung. In the photo sequence above, we see Faye smiling in a way that's reserved for special friends, and we can see that she's having a great time with Takeshi. Faye looks especially beautiful in a very natural sort of way, with a tan and her hair pulled back in a ponytail. I'd really like to see a new film starring these two friends. It would be a box office smash.

This was aired on Greek television by the Greek broadcaster MEGA. It was shown on October 8th 1994.

Every part of this piece of fluff from the "She's a Bird..." intro, to the questions, "Have you shagged anyone famous", to the porn star pout photo is just terrible. Why did you let Simon Price & IPC do this to you Caitlin? Ah yes....you'd made it on to the telly by this time and the show had to be promoted because it was a crap.

Paul Moody reviews Radiohead live at the Garage, Glasgow. Taken from NME, 8th October 1994.

Up to this point everyone sensible saw Radiohead as just another fourth rate, bandwagon chasing, grunge/shoegaze lite also-ran. Here previewing material from still to be released The Bends, it seems Radiohead start to show glimmers of what they will one day become.

Fast forward fourteen years to 2008 and you'll be lucky to even see the stage let alone get the chance be that over-zealous fan who clambers onto the stage.

Blur do a short tour of America to promote Parklife. When did Albarn eventually stop wearing that necklace? Am I imagining it or was there some incident where it was ripped off him at a gig or something?

Blame the Suede flexidisc for the large tear on this cover. I wonder where that flexidisc is now....ah yes I know...the bin.

Faye's "I Have a Date with Spring"

Faye's performance is fun to watch. The year is 1994, and her career is on the rise. In this live TV broadcast, Faye isn't quite prepared to sing the song. She's off cue at the start, and she acknowledges her mistake with her characteristic whirl and good-natured smile. This is one of the qualities I admire in Faye. She acknowledges and accepts her gaffs on stage with a big smile and gesture, and moves on. No big deal. And the performance is richer for her being so human and natural.

Alice Lau's video of "I Have a Date with Spring" (see below), was added to YouTube by Nicklee252 on 8 Sep 2007. Her style is very different from Faye's. I think this scene is from the film, which I've never seen. The audio is a rip from the video. It eliminates the long instrumental introduction.

Growing up, I loved holograms. They always carried a certain "wow" factor about them. I mean, it's a two dimensional picture, but there's three dimensions! So when Upper Deck came out with the team logo holograms, let's just say that I had many a notebook covered in the things. But after a couple of years of your basic team logos, I got a little bored. Little did I know a hologram revolution was just around the corner.

Looking at the top half of this card, it's nothing overly fancy. You've got a yet-to-be-superstar Sammy Sosa blocking the sun. But then you look down to the bottom and you get your gimmick: a holographic Sammy with his head in the clouds. But not only was it shiny, but Sammy's head moves. And he blinks! My freaking baseball card blinks at me. Needless to say, the "wow" factor returned.

The 1994 SP Baseball set is famous for having the most sought-after Alex Rodriguez rookie. If that one card wasn't holding up prices of wax, I'd consider going into the eBay vaults and picking up a box or two just to get me some blinking holograms. There's 38 cards in the set (inserted 1:5 packs) with a much rarer die-cut parallel featuring red borders.

The big Pink Bus Shelter at Tynecastle was beginning to take shape with the new Wheatfield stand in use for the first time, but the opening party was crashed by Gordon Hunter just after the hour mark, and Jim Leighton kept a third successive clean sheet, leaving Hearts with one point from their opening three fixtures. The Hearts team featured new signing Mo Johnston as well as three future Tynecastle managers, Craig Levein, John Robertson and Steven Frail.

Given that I bought the Pink News on the night of this game I obviously must have been there, but strangely I have no recollection of it whatsoever. I can't even remember the new stand. I have never been to Tynecastle since the three new stands were built, so this must have been my last ever visit to the ground.

Watching this video, you can't help but wonder why Cinepoly doesn't return to the mixing studio to pull together all the different clips from this concert to create a whole DVD that's purely for watching -- a video minus the karaoke functions. This was a great concert with some of Faye's best early hits and Faye chatting quite a bit with the audience. It's not as polished as the 1998-99 and 2003 concerts, but you can clearly see that this was the starting point for the one-off style that made Faye's live performances legend. This is Faye doing it her way.

Could this be the next Mickey Mantle Rookie card?  Any serious collector can tell you that this is the 1994 Upper Deck SP Alex Rodriguez rookie card, which is a must for any Rodriguez collection.  Alex Rodriguez is only 32 years old and is already a member of the 500 career HR club.  Everytime he comes up to bat you are watching history in the making.  In my opinion, his 1994 Upper Deck SP rookie card is most likely the card around in today's modern hobby world that will end up being like the Mickey Mantle rookie card.  When I mean it will be like the Mantle rookie, I'm talking about over time people will still demand it and want it for their collection.  Today, many people get caught up in the hype of an 18 year old prospect that may never get past single A ball.  More people should pay attention to the veterans that are making history.  The 1994 UD SP prospect cards are very condition sensative.  They all have a foil finish to them which makes the card very easy to chip.  The backs of these cards are also black, which makes white marks easier to show up.  Even though the mid 90's was still a victim of overproduction, since these cards are so condition sensative and Alex Rodriguez continues to make history the value hasn't been hurt a bit.  The 94 UD SP rookie can be picked up on eBay for $91.00 and is the top card sent in for grading at Beckett.  In 50 years people will still be demanding the Mantle rookie, and I think they will still want the 94 UD SP Rodriguez rookie.  Hyped players can only last so long.

This card also reminds me that the Chiefs and Steelers always seemed to be playoff contenders in that era.

In the early 1990s, Marcus Allen was a Los Angeles Raider. His production was dropping off, and Al Davis seemend more interested in using imports like Roger Craig or Eric Dickerson as the featured back for the Silver and Black. Allen signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1993 and had a new lease on life, joining Joe Montana and forming a backfield of Superbowl veterans who knew how to win. In Allen's final season, he logged more than 100 carries with a 4.1 yards-per-carry average and 11 TDs to boot. How many 37-year-old halfbacks could lay claim to that?
