RSS
Warning: This is kinda geeky!
You’ve probably interacted with RSS, even if you don’t know what it is or what it means. For an explanation of RSS, check out how the New York Times explains it and then come back.
…Okay now that you know what RSS is, here is what’s cool about it on WordPress.com: we produce RSS feeds for almost everything you can imagine.
Don’t believe us? Try it! You can add /feed/ to the end of most URLs on your blog and get a RSS version of that content.
If you add /feed/ to your main blog URL, you’ll get the last 10 or so of your posts.
if you add /feed/ to a post permalink URL, you’ll geet a RSS feed of the comments on that post.
If you add /feed/ to the end of a tag URL on your blog or on our main tags, it’ll show you a feed of posts with that tag.
If you go to your main site feed, and then add ?s=oogabooga to the end of the URL, it’ll show you a feed of just the posts that contain the word “oogabooga” in them. (This is called a search feed.)
The above (and more) work for any blog on WordPress.com, so you have quite a bit of flexibility in dealing with feeds.
As a bonus if you’re a real feed geek, we produce all of the above in RSS 2.0, RSS .92, RSS 1.0 (RDF), and Atom 0.3. (Whew!)
